A uniquely interesting take on dementia and Hyperthymesia by a young woman who has suffered a terrible tragedy and lost her family. She comes to believe the man responsible for it also suffers from Hyperthymesia which leads her down a rabbit hole to learn the truth about him, herself and her mother. This was a really intriguing book and I enjoyed reading about these interesting conditions and seeing where the story would take the main character Nina!

Imperfect Memories (The Temporal Shift Series Bk 1) by Jody Wenner is an odd book, but one that kept me steadily reading...and wondering.

A bomb explodes in a local coffee shop. Nina's husband and daughter are among the dead. A senseless act of terror, but the perpetrator is caught and sent to prison.

Nina is unable to come to terms with the incident and begins having nightmares, difficulty sleeping, gaps in her memory. Which is odder that it seems because Nina is one of those rare individuals who remembers everything. She has hyperthmesia, a neurological disorder that enables to her remember with remarkable detail the events in her life.

As she feels her self unraveling, she approaches the man responsible to get answers. Who can Nina trust if she can't trust herself?

A strange book that left me wondering what was really going on. The conclusion is sort of a "to be continued," as one thing is wrapped up, more questions arise. A fast read. I'm in for the next one.

Imperfect describes it

I really wanted to love it but I didnt. I will give it credit for keeping me interested enough to find out what happens and reading through the end. However, it was bland. There was no emotion from anyone. Nina just lost the 2 most important people in her life and throughout the entire book she demonstrates no feelings whatsoever. One would think that she would at least show anger when speaking to Tom but she never does. She sees a therapist but even there she never talks about it and shows no grief over the loss of her husband and child. Her father and brother 's conversations with her are always lifeless. There's just no feeling in any of the characters. And then there's the ending. It's like someone was typing and the device unexpectedly shuts off. It just stops. I felt like I'd reached a dead end and unfortunately I will not be reading the 2nd book so I'm just stuck.

This was another book which tested me. Nina has lost her husband and young daughter in a tragic accident and now she wonders whether there is something happening to her. A kind of dementia which she saw in her mother and which she can now frighteningly find in the same person who caused her family's death.

The premise alone is enough to keep you on edge. Another attitude to the unknown yet looking for answers illness in dementia and in Nina's case hyperthymesia. The ability to have instant recall of incidents of every day of her life.

This was not a comfortable book, but then we read not always for comfort. This was emotional because Nina was trying to cope, trying to survive on a day to day basis and life did not help her at all.

Emotionally challenging this was a difficult read. I cannot say I enjoyed the read but it was a good book.

On the cover we see Nina, she lost her husband and daughter and thinks he loses her mind. She asks if she lives the same story as her mother, because she is not a normal person, she has the hyperthymesia, which means she has the ability to remember every minute of her life. The more the days pass, the more go by, the crazier she gets, and the only person who can help her is to be the man who kills his family.

A story that holds the road with the character of Nina tying the more I advanced in the story the more I wanted to know what had happened to her family. Living with this ability to remember every minute of his life must not be easy every day. But can be a plus for people who easily forget things. Look forward to read more especially as this is over on a cliffhanger.

I listened to the audiobook version of this book.

The concepts in this book are pretty interesting. I had a little bit of a harder time following in some spots, but there were plenty of reminders to where I could piece together what was happening. The author does a great job of giving us a good look into the main character's uncommon way of thinking as well as tying all the pieces of the puzzle together.

The narration was pretty good as far as being consistent and clear; however, it was a little monotonous and I would have liked there to have been better differentiation between character voices.

I received a review copy at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review.

What a unique story. This author did a fantastic job with this story. As I read this story it drew me in because the idea of remembering every part of your life; the good, the fun, and the absolutely tragic was intriguing. I know I would not and I can only imagine just how much that would mess with someone's head. This book was full of so many emotions, and surprises. I am ready for the next one. Thank you for allowing me to read this and write about it.

When you have a medical condition that allows for total recall of every detail of everyday, can your memories be fallible? This is what Nina is dealing with in the aftermath of losing her husband and child in a tragedy. Along with trying to cope with grief, Nina feels that her memory is slipping, and she needs to find answers. This book is full of psychological twists and keeps you turning the pages.

Just ok

I’m an avid reader and can zip through a good book in a few days. This book took me over a month to read. It just wasn’t that interesting, but I’m not a quitter. I was determined to finish it. I see there is a second book in the series, and I have no intention of reading it. Sorry. I really wanted the book to get better as I plodded along, but it did not.

Haven’t read anything else of the author, but I’d love to (need to check if there is more to read). Good read, kept me interested all the way. Light and approachable in style and likeable characters. Worth your time.

I kept waiting for something to happen. A large part of the book describes things that were in the past.

If you aren’t planning on reading the entire series I wouldn’t read this. If you are getting the entire set, then this is a good beginning to the story. The characters are believable and easy to care about. I’m not a big fan of flashbacks in a story as I find them distracting, but that’s just me.

Bizarre psychological thriller

This story was a little different. In one way it was a little boring and repetitive. Not much of a plot.
