Will Faye get her happy-ever-after or will bittersweet secrets ruin the recipe for love?
Since Faye met her gorgeous Aussie boyfriend Dan, they’ve travelled all over the world to meet in amazing, crazy and romantic locations. They’ve eaten gateaux in a chateau, chocolate torte in a moonlit port, and even had stöllen kisses in a sparkling Christmas market. Neither of them wanted to settle down… until now.
When Dan asks Faye to marry him and to move to Australia it throws a real spanner in the works. Faye’s daughter Emma needs her here, so moving to the other side of the world – even for a hunk like Dan – simply isn’t an option. Is it?
Faye’s been down the marriage road before and it ended up with her having Ryan Gosling fantasies while her ex-husband obsessed about the plumbing. Is that what she has to look forward to? Is she ready to end her adventure? And even if she is, how can she be sure Dan is the right man for her?

4 Wedded Bliss stars to Love, Lies, and Wedding Cake! 🎂 🎂 🎂 🎂
I am not much of a royal watcher, but I have Royal Wedding fever! I’ve found myself obsessed with Meghan and Harry and their genuine love for each other. So, reading Love, Lies, and Wedding Cake on the heels of that experience was apropos, even if in the form of a fun and heartwarming rom com!
Faye and her Aussie boyfriend, Dan, have traveled the world together experiencing all the most romantic locations. The fun stops when Dan proposes and wants Faye to join him in Australia. Faye has a daughter and is not so sure about uprooting her life, even if Dan is her dream guy.
Love, Lies, and Wedding Cake is all about second chances and following your heart. In true rom com style, I was laughing, and I had warm fuzzies by the end. Once again, these are the best books for lifting my spirits and breaking up heavier reads.
Thank you to Sue Watson, Bookouture, and Netgalley for the ARC. Love, Lies and Wedding Cake is now available!
Faye is being added to my book BFF list, and she might be the only member that was born in the same decade as me.... Sue Watson, where have you been all my life? This I am sad to say was my first book by this author, but I will from now on pick up every book that she writes! This book just had the perfect blend of romance, humor, friendship, family, and food.... I was seriously up all night reading this book, laughing so hard I was crying at two in the morning.... just needing to know how this book ended.... and then sad when it did.... because I couldn’t spend any more time with these fabulous characters....
I found Faye so relatable and I could really put myself in her position throughout this book... as a mother, as a single woman in her 40s, and as somebody who enjoys cake.... because of this I was so frustrated with other characters throughout the book, first it was Dan... I was so frustrated that he wanted her to move across the world to be with him.... there is NO way I would move states much less countries and leave my kids, especially for a man... then I got upset with Emma... how dare she not take her mother’s feelings into consideration, after all she’s done for her.... so as you can tell I projected some of my own feelings onto these characters.... and just like Faye by the end of the book my opinions might have changed on some of these points....
Faye was surrounded by such a wonderful group of people... Dan, her boyfriend who yes did frustrate me... but he really was a good guy... Emma her daughter, who did truly love her mother.... Mandy the owner of the beauty salon where Faye worked, she really did add some humor and charm to the story.... and last but absolutely not least Rosie Faye’s granddaughter.... Rosie would light up anybody’s life, every time she was in the book she put a smile on my face... couldn’t wait to hear the words that came out of her mouth after she put her hand on her hip...
Absolutely recommend when you are in the mood for a romance that is filled with love, laughter, and cake🎂
*** thank you so much too Bookouture and Net Galley for providing me with a copy of this delectable book ***
5☆ Prepare to fall in love with Love, Lies and Wedding Cake.
Love, Lies and Wedding Cake is a fabulous heart warming, laugh out loud and fun Rom Com about starting again, family, relationships, love and drama.
Faye lives with her Daughter Emma and her 4year old granddaughter Rosie. Recently divorced Faye is in a relationship with a younger sexy man Dan.
Dan is everything her Ex wasn't. Fun, spontaneous, exciting, and best of all he adores Rosie and her family.
Faye gives up her chance of happiness with Dan to look after Rosie. But when Emma meets someone and falls in love. Faye is lost, scared and lonely and homeless.
Can Faye truly find happiness again or Will she follow her heart and run off to be with Dan in Australia.
For me the star of the book was Rosie, she literally had me in tears of laughter with her minxy cheeky one liners, she's full of confidence, sass and for a 4year old she acts like she's 14. She stole my heart.
I really liked Faye, she's strong, independent, vulnerable, and never puts her needs first. I was just rooting for her the whole way through to get her happy ending!
Dan Was so patient and supportive of Faye's family. It was lovely to see how much he adored Rosie and how they was together. I felt for Dan, he had a tough past and with his brother being very sick he blames himself. So he battled daemons.
I adored Love, Lies and Wedding Cake, it's the perfect piece of escapism. I literally devoured it in two nights. Sue has created an Enchanting, Funny and compelling plot, with relatable and believable characters. It was a vivid rich tale has absolutely stolen my heart.
I can't recommend this book enough. Pack this book for your holiday summer read, or cosy up with a scrumptious drink and prepare to fall in love with Love, Lies and Wedding Cake.
I am a huge fan of this authors books. Love, Lies and Lemon Cake being my absolute favourite. Have you ever loved a book so much though and wish the author would write another one featuring the same characters? Well Sue Watson has answered my prayers!
To be fair this book does read well as a stand alone but I beg you to read the first one as it is fabulous and you really don’t want to miss the beginning of Faye and Dan’s journey.
It was sooooo good to catch back up with Faye and Dan again. Sadly not everything is as rosy as we left it last time. Some big decisions need to be made and I was torn in two as to what should happen. The author seriously messed with my head as I really didn’t know which way Faye was going to turn and I couldn’t turn those pages fast enough to see how things were going to turn out for the pair.
This author always manages to write a story which soaks you up body and soul. As soon as I pick one of her books up I know I won’t be putting it back down until I finish it. I always get so invested in the story line that by the end I am an absolute emotional wreck and this time was no different. Don’t get me wrong I was grinning like a cheshire cat whilst sobbing my heart out as I was so happy but sad as I had come to the end.
Australia is somewhere now that I want to go to even more than ever before. The sights and life there sounded so idyllic and I wanted to hop on board the next plane and find a Dan of my own. Just don’t tell my husband ;).
Love, Lies and Wedding Cake is the perfect follow on from what was an already fabulous book. This one is just as fabulous and I now have two firm favourites. It is a book that picks you right up and smothers you with the most amazing emotions. It is the perfect read to feed your mind and soul and will remind you that happiness indeed starts with you!
My thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for an advanced readers copy of this book. All opinions are my own and not biased in anyway.
Hilarious, delicious, inspiring are just three of the words I want to use to describe Love, Lies and Wedding Cake which is utterly brilliant!
It is the long awaited sequel to Love, Lies and Lemon Cake and despite it being a few years between reading them, I realised I remembered the basics, and especially Faye and Dan, within a few pages, which to me is the sign of an author writing memorable characters. This could be read as a standalone, but honestly why deprive yourself of the joy of reading two fabulous books?!
Full of tantalising food descriptions and gorgeous travel scenery where I felt like I was part of the action, what this really is, is the story of two people trying to work out if they can live their dreams, do what is needed of them as responsible adults and still be in each others lives.
The directions that Faye and Dan go in this book will surprise you if you had read the first book and know just how in love and perfect they seem for each other, but equally I loved seeing them both grow as people.
I also loved the way that I have suddenly twigged how some of Sue Watson's book have a small connection, and I always enjoy seeing links between an authors work, like a special nod to her fans, and the character in question is rather memorable from the books set in Appledore.
And then there is Rosie, Faye's grand daughter, who is adorable, but is 3 going on 30, with a turn of phrase best suited to the adults she is mimicking. She picks up on any bad language and it seems like her favourite word is "bruddy". Every single scene she was in had me smiling.
Oh and Faye's best friend Mandy is also a hilarious tonic, she works in a beauty spa, happens to love men, and well during Vajazzle week was wearing a t-shirt that even confused poor Rosie, as she recognised a front bottom on it!!
There is no doubt in my mind that this a perfect summer read, take it with you to the poolside or beach, and ignore the odd stares as you laugh out loud and maybe shed a few tears too!
Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
What a 'bruddy' brilliant book!! Ms. Watson has done it again, given a book so full of love, laughter, and ridiculously loving characters. The warmth Sue Watson's writing exudes literally lights up my day. Even a heart soaked in pain finds solace and a way to smile with this book.
"Death is not the greatest loss of life, the greatest loss is what dies inside us while we live"
Dan and Faye are in love; he proposes, she says no as she has to be there for her daughter Emma and granddaughter Rosie, and her degree in English literature. Dan moves to Australia. The break up. Fast forward one year, Faye has no responsibilities, she wants to be with Dan and rushes to Australia. But there is a shock waiting for her...
Sue Watson's books are always about love and keeping an open heart. Her books make you fall in love, to understand the power of love and to heal. Faye is fabulous in her role, I could identify with her decisions, her pain, her guilt, and finally her heart. The other characters especially granddaughter Rosie was so cute that I longed to spend more time with them. The story has the first half in England with Dan in Faye's life and second half in Australia with Faye in Dan's life. Both parts show how life and love finds its own way back!!
Love, Love, Love this book.... It has been just over a year since I read Love,Lies and Lemon Cakes (you can check out my review here) So I haven't had to wait to long for a second installment....but I have waited long enough and it was certainly worth the wait. I absolutely adored this book and couldn't read it fast enough.
Once again we meet up with Faye a character who you can not help but love she is totally awesome and of course hottie Dan who I want for myself. Not only does Sue Watson certainly knows how to make you feel part of the story but she also has a way with words making me feel like Faye is one of my best friends.
Not only do the characters spring to life and jump out the pages at you. This story is so much more that a laugh out loud romantic comedy which tells a story about making decisions, second chances and doing what makes you happy. You can feel the emotion and excitement in very page you read. It also has some OMG moments which I wasn't expecting, crikey Sue what are you doing to me?!
It is beautifully written and ticked all the boxes for me. Once again Sue has put a smile back on my face. giving it a very well deserved 5 stars
Thank you to Kim Nash for inviting me to take part in this fab blitz
So many moons ago back in 2012 I doscovered this author named Sue Watson. I read a couple of her books and then in 2014 I discovered Love, Lies and Lemon Cake a book that has continued to stay on my all time favourites shelf ever since. It's also one of the few books I have read more than once. Over the years I have been nagging and whingeing for a while about a sequel, and lo and behold look at this beauty! I have to admit I was scared and excited in equal measures. What if she made a hash of it and the book was rubbish? Anyhow, I started it with trepidation and a little fear. Aproximately 7 hours later I can confirm my fear was unfounded. Not only was it unfounded but this sequel just proves WHY the readers needed one.
The original will always hold a special place for me but this follow up was absolutely marvellous. Faye Dobson appears to have it all with the man of her dreams, however all is not as it seems and before too long the cracks start to appear. What I absolutely loved is Faye herself, she is so normal and funny and ridiculous all wrapped up in one. She is no different to the first book, and when you start to read about her again all the brilliant quirks come pouring back. She is a woman who when she makes mistakes feels the need to explain, and then add more explanation, resulting in a very long-winded and sometimes hillarious conversations.
Thankfully we also see the return of the legendary Mandy her work colleague, the woman is a legend. In addition there are Faye's daughter Emma and her hillarious and adorable grandaughter Rosie. The wonderful thing about this sequel is what happens and how, I love the fact it isn't instant flowers and romance and doesn't necessarily work out how you think it will for Dan and Faye. I think how long it took me to read this book may well be an indication of just how much I loved it and I am truly thrilled to get to find out what happened. Not only that but I got to laugh along at Faye, Mandy, Rosie and we even get brief appearances by Sue (Faye's friend who moved to Devon).
As for Dan, well he is just the sort of Man that every woman is almost convinced does not exist. However in the world of Faye he certainly does exist and it isn't such plain sailing this time around. The way the story pans out and seeing the paths that all the characters takes is absolutely brilliant. This was a truly wonderful and funny book that warmed my heart, made me laugh and made me cry. Who needs retail therpay when there's a sequel to Love, Lies and Lemon Cake. Sue Watson is a a genius and in my opinion a hugely UNDER rated author. This along with the first book are what every woman needs when they are feeling fed up, or just need a bit of a giggle.
'Love, Lies and Wedding Cake' is the sequel to Sue Watson's previous novel, 'Love, Lies and Lemon Cake'. I had hoped that I would have read the first book before reading the second book, however that wasn't the case. Luckily it didn't make much difference as I was able to read this book perfectly well on its own.
Faye is as happy as pig in......cough. She has a wonderful daughter, a sassy granddaughter, and is the girlfriend of an Australian hunk (a toy-boy fyi). What more could a forty something woman want? When Faye finds out that her boyfriend, Dan, has to go back home to Australia, she feels her heart shatter into a million pieces. Dan tells her that it's about time she lived her own life, instead of living her daughter's. But can she really go half way around the world without her two girls with her?
Can I just say that Faye's granddaughter is absolutely hilarious!! Someone get that girl her own novel! What a sassy, strong willed toddler who, incidentally, reminded me of my own little girl. Gotta love them though, eh!
As daft as this sounds, 'Love, Lies and Wedding Cake' came at the right time as lately I have been struggling to do things for myself, because I am so busy doing things for other people. Just like Faye. It's after you see it in black and white from a different perspective, that things start to make sense. Faye struggled with her own conscience of trying to be the perfect mum/granddaughter, whilst also wanting to finally live her life with her boyfriend. It was as though she was damned by any decision that she made, yet the only person who was going to suffer in the long run was herself.
This storyline really did hit home on a personal level, making me quite emotional in the process, making me feel as though my own personal feelings were being validated by a fictional character. I could see where Dan was coming from to a certain extent, yet the way he ended up phrasing it to Faye made him come across like a donkey hat.
Sue Watson's delivery of both a hilarious and heart-warming read was, as always, totally flawless. The ratio between serious and snort-your-drink-out-of-your-nose moments was brilliantly defined, moulding well together to create an all round, perfect and huggable read.
Faye, courtesy of Sue Watson, made me remember that whilst we are often intent on splitting ourselves between 3855738 people, the person who we need to ensure is happy and fulfilled more often than anyone else - is ourselves. Faye highlighted that that was easier said than done, yet she also highlighted how important it was to do, before you end up hitting fifty and realising that you have actually done nothing for yourself. Gives you food for thought really, doesn't it? Or cake....
'Love, Lies and Wedding Cake' fulfilled me from the tips of my fingers to the tips of my toes, wrapping me up in a blanket with its cosy and touching moments. Sue Watson's novel could not have come at a better time for me to read, and I feel like now, thanks to copious amounts of cake and a sassy granddaughter of Faye's, I can allow myself to snort drink out of my nose in laughter if I choose to do so...for me.
Beautifully written, I'm torn between choosing this book or choosing a cake - that is how much I loved this book**
** Ps, the book won seeing as it contains cake ;).
I absolutely loved the first book in this series and the latest book was such a lovely, warm read. It felt like returning to old friends and settling in to catch up on all the gossip. Faye is on holiday with Dan, the Australian, when she is shocked to hear that he plans to return to Australia to see his brother, who is very unwell. She contemplates joining him- but feels too drawn to her family and plans in the UK. They are both left heartbroken.
There are some very funny moments with her grand daughter who is a precious little girl. The friends at the salon provide further comic moments. I know I fell in love with the characters and was trying to write the happy ever after in my head. When you fall in love with characters you want them to have the life you'd dream of for them. But life isn't going to run smoothly.
I loved every moment within the pages of this book and was even grateful for the terrible storm overnight that meant I had to sit up with my dog and oops finish the book. The dog was asleep- so it was just a great excuse to not sleep to manage to read all the way through to the end!
Love, Lies, and Wedding Cake is a sequel to Love, Lies, and Lemon Cake, which I haven't read, but also didn't feel it was necessary in order to understand this story. The book starts with Faye and her hunk Australian boyfriend Dan enjoying themselves on a beautiful beach. Faye is a 46-year-old divorced grandma and Dan is a carefree, single guy in his 30's. Life seems absolutely perfect to this middle-age grandma and her wonderful boyfriend until tragedy hits home and Dan has to move back to Australia leaving Faye all alone and wondering if their relationship can endure the long-distance.
I really enjoyed Sue Watson's writing. I'm not sure I would call it hilariously funny, but I found myself laughing out loud several times. I loved Faye and her attitude towards life. The characters were well developed and this was an overall easy read. The only thing I didn't care for was how Dan and Faye ended up. I'm not sure I would have been as forgiving, but Watson did a good job exploring that drama.
This is a delightful romantic comedy, and I'm looking forward to reading more books from this author.
I would like to thank Bookouture and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I've heard of this author loads and have her books in my pile to read but not read any of her books till this one now I want to read them all as it's simply brilliant from the first paged I was hooked. Full of romance and so heartwarming and makes you laugh out loud while reading but also has you on edge as you want to know what happens. Also has you in tears and wiryh far more than the five stars and just simply brilliant. So well written with great characters and story plot and didn't want it to end. Faye is happily living with her daughter after a marriage break up and she has a boyfriend Dan who they are both happy with the way life is going travelling about and having fun but then Dan asks Faye to marry her and she knows this means she will have to move back to his home country of Australia and she can't leave her daughter Emma and her granddaughter as she knows they need her plus she is at uni and she wants to finish that. Dan goes back home and they go their separate ways she tells him after he phones to get on with his life and forget her but can he do this and can she move on as well. When Emma tells her she is getting married and moving away with Faye's granddaughter can Faye cope. She decides she can't live with out Dan and she's finished uni now so a year later contacts Dan to say she's going over to see him. Is he hiding something from her when she arrives and how will she react and after a year apart is he move on or could he just not forget her. Can Faye be happy or does she think it's just to much for her. This is a brilliant read and hooked from the first page. Well worth reading
Love, Lies and Wedding Cake is the sequel to Love, Lies and Lemon Cake both could be read as stand alone novels but why would you? You get the back story to Dan and Faye's relationship and it's where it all began for my addiction to everything that Sue Watson has written.
Love, Lies and Wedding Cake was a total 'emotion fest'. It was like a visit to the fairground. Huge amounts of laughter and smiles as I rode the highs and lows of the big dipper, Sue Watson is a natural comic, has great warmth and empathy with the ability to have you snorting with laughter one minute and choked with emotion the next.
It's decision time in Faye's life - Dan her, Australian tomboy has to return to Australia to help care for his dying brother. This prompts him to ask Faye to marry him and go to live in Australia with him, he's always talked about his dream of opening a cafe/restaurant in sight of the Sydney Opera House after all and now could be the time.
They have a spontaneous, romantic, relaxed lifestyle - the timing is perfect isn't it? But....Faye, divorced mother to single mum Emma and joint carer to Rosie her toddler, grand-daughter is torn. She can't let him go, he is the love of her life but she has her daughter and grand-daughter to think of too, they need her. How could she leave them behind?
OMG, Rosie is utterly adorable and definitely rules the roost in every situation, she's way older than her years and has her eye rolling, hand on hip stance down to perfection. She is an utter joy I could totally understand how Faye was incapable of making a decision - how could anyone leave this bundle of joy behind?
Fast-forward twelve months and imagine Bridgett Jones getting on a plane to Australia, A trip that was pure comedy gold, Faye suffers from verbal diahorea when stressed and constantly finds herself in situations that portray her as both physically and or mentally challenged. In her head she can do sophistication with ease but the reality is somewhat different. I literally cried laughing at the many 'situations' she found herself in and not to spoil it for other readers - I will definitely be wary of how I wear my swimming costume!!
This is a book about taking chances and letting go. We only have one life and we should live it, embrace what comes our way and give our children wings - we'll always be mothers but our children need to feel independent too - who knows what they and us are capable of until we try. Regret in life the things we didn't do not the things we tried.
Love, Lies and Wedding Cake gets another thumbs up for me - Sue has done it again and got the recipe just perfect! Sue is an author I'll never tire of reading, each and every book delivers what it says on the tin - escapism, laced with pure indulgence. I'm on a salad and water diet ATM to shed a few pounds before my hols - OMG, the crazy amounts of food references and lashings of cake literally had me drooling.
This book is the second one in a series, but don't let this hold you back. It is perfectly readable without having read the first one and it will only give you more reason to devour the other book as well. It a laughing out loud story, but not a foolish one because the author has managed to put a lot of depth in it as well. Of course when you are young, you see things differently and you don't think everything through as well as you shoud. And then life happens and you try to do the right thing. Although this does not always mean that it will make you happy. The story shows that putting yourself first sometimes is not selfish, but is essential. You can ignore your own dreams and wishes, but where does that leave you in the end? Faye is an example of how it is possible to turn your life around and find your happy ever after. Thank you, Sue Watson, Bookouture and Netgalley for giving me the chance to review this awesome story. It makes me even feel more inclined to visit Australia.
Wow… Sue has done it again! Outstanding. Read within two sittings. I adored Love, Lies and Lemon Cake (book one in the series) so this was a must read for me and boy was I impressed and hooked. Bloody brilliant! I would recommend this series be read in order so you get a feel for the characters first before reading this one.
What a perfect follow up to book one, back with the familiar, funny and charming characters. Parts had my chuckling away to myself and falling in love with Dan all over again. I loved cheeky Rosie’s character too, reminded me of my own little girl! Made me smile. I loved the setting, the ending, ALL OF IT! A perfect chick-lit, romance and comedy story. A well deserved five stars. A brilliant author!! Highly recommend.
A powerful story highlighting the wonder thay is life and the decisions we face along the way, go for it! Don’t say no. I wonder what lies ahead for Dan and Faye? Will there be a book three? I hope so…. Fingers crossed!
I absolutely adore this author. Her books make me laugh out loud and cry with emotion. With all her books, this one included, she delivers a cracking story full of heart, seasoned liberally with humour. This book was an incredible, unputdownable read. There were parts where I laughed with tears rolling down my cheeks and others where I couldn't hold back my tears because the scene was so poignant and beautiful. This is one of the best books I've read this year. Sue Watson gets better with every book and I cannot wait for her next. Love this author and would highly recommend this book to everyone.
This was a feel-good humorous romance with Sue Watson's usual LOL style. I was really rooting for the happy ending and got a bit frustrated with the baby-mother scuppering plans but I needn't have worried. Another funny read about second chances at happiness!
I wanted to start the New Year off with a feel good book and this was it. I loved it. Great story running throughout, and I could picture all the characters with ease. Would recommend for a nice easy read and some good laughs.
another lovely read with plenty of laugh out loud moments I had my fingers crossed the whole way through for Faye and Dan but sometimes you just never know what's round the next corner
I have been a huge fan of Sue Watson’s for a while now. I have had the pleasure of reading and reviewing a fair few of her books and I have loved each and every one and ‘Love, Lies & Wedding Cake’ is no exception. I absolutely adored reading it but more about that in a bit. I took to the character of Faye from the start and I found myself giggling away to myself at some of the things she got up to or the things that she said. She has been married and divorced and she is currently in a relationship with a dreamy sounding Aussie hunk called Dan. They are well matched and have lots of fun. Dan also gets on well with Faye’s daughter Emma and her adorable granddaughter. Faye does a great deal of childcare for her granddaughter but she is happy to help and she well and truly dotes on her granddaughter. They get on like a house on fire and her granddaughter is older than her years. It’s almost as if the roles have been reversed and Faye is the child and her granddaughter is the parent. I loved reading about their relationship. Faye is of an age where she can finally do what she wants and she is currently studying for an English degree, which she loves. She loves the study and she gets on very well with her fellow students. Things are going well for her but just when she thinks that she can relax, the rug is pulled out from underneath her when Dan goes back to Australia to spend time with his brother, who is dying from Huntington’s Disease. Dan only books a one way ticket so it looks as if her relationship is dead in the water….or is it? Will Faye get her happy ever after ending that she so deserves? Will she stay with Dan or is she destined to be with somebody else? Will Faye’s daughter Emma find happiness? Well for the answers to these questions and more you are just going to have to read the book for yourselves as I am not going to tell you. I was hooked on ‘Love, Lies and Wedding Cake’ from the moment I picked it up and reading it became something of an addiction. I picked the book up only intending to read a couple of chapters but 15 chapters later, I was still reading but I hadn’t noticed how quickly the time was passing because I was enjoying the story so much. I picked up the book at the right time for me because I was feeling a bit down in the dumps and in need of a light hearted read. This book was definitely the pick me up I needed. It wasn’t long before I was chuckling away at something Faye had done or said. I especially loved the bit where she talks about middle aged people having sex. She gives away far too much information and she tries to recover the situation but only ends up making things worse and digging an even bigger hole for herself. The characters were so well devised and written that I almost felt that they were real and I began to think of them as friends. Blimey oh riley this was one heck of a rollercoaster ride of a read that took me through a whole range of emotions. There were moments where I found myself wanting to cry, shout and laugh out loud. This book certainly tugged on my heartstrings and then some. Sue Watson writes about difficult issues with great sensitivity. For example in this book one of the characters has a brother with Huntington’s Disease which ultimately proves to be fatal. You don’t often read about the condition in fiction books, so it was refreshing to see it discussed in such a sensitive manner. I knew somebody who had Huntington’s Disease (or Huntington’s Chorea as it used to be called) and it has to be one of the cruellest diseases out there. To conclude, this was one hell of a read and I would definitely recommend it to others. I absolutely love this hugely talented author and I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next. Here’s hoping that we don’t have too long to wait. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a well deserved 5* out of 5*.
Everything is going well for Faye until her boyfriend Dan drops a huge bombshell. He is going back to Australia and he wants Faye to go with him.....as his wife!
The dilemma Faye finds herself in is one that so many women will relate to. Does she go with the love of her life, or stay at home where she is desperately needed by her daughter and granddaughter? The agonising decision Faye faces had me gripped completely. I debated what I would do in the same situation and I couldn't decide, but women make these choices every day.
As well as the thought-provoking, heart-wrenching events, Sue Watson manages to lace the story with some hilarious interludes. One minute you are fighting back the tears, the next giggling outrageously. The burning question is..how does this work? well, it just does! It's pure genius the way the story takes you from one emotion to another so seamlessly and smoothly.
Most of the comedy comes from Faye's four-year-old granddaughter Rosie. I adored the relationship between Faye and Rosie, those two know how to have fun! Rosie is so bright and her innocent potty mouth makes you cringe and laugh hysterically at the same time!
Faye's friends also provide plenty of comedy moments and the hair salon is a hive of gossip, revelations and high jinx. Despite the innuendoes and brashness you just know that they would all take a bullet for Faye.
The reason I loved this book so much was that it gives a massive high five to the older woman, It's so good to have a mature main character who has a great sense of fun and adventure and a healthy sex drive. Faye juggles work, studying for a degree and looking after her family but she may have to sacrifice a once in a lifetime relationship because the need to be there for her own flesh and blood is so strong.
A highly recommended read, it's 'bruddy' brilliant!
Thank you to Bookouture and Sue Watson for providing me with a copy which I have reviewed honestly.
After escaping one unhappy marriage though she did get her daughter Emma out of it whom now has a daughter herself called Rosie, she found Dan a handsome Australian man younger than her.
When Dan's brother whom has Huntingtons takes a turn for the worse, Dan goes back to Australia without Faye as she needs to do her final degree year and take care of her adult daughter and young granddaughter she dotes on even to the point of not accepting his proposal as he wants to stay in Australia for good again.
Twelve months on, she sees her daughter marry Richard and settle down with him then focuses on getting Dan back, heading out to Australia and joining him at the cafe he runs. Only he acts cagey at first and then she discovers Saffron and Clover...
Another book by Sue full of laughs, many to do with little Rosie and the things she says but hilarious situations. Despite the serious side of the book being all about finding your way and doing your own thing whilst also finding love, we get a nice contrast between doing life for you as a parent but also still looking out for your children too.
The book shows age isn't a thing against getting married later in life at all and second chance happiness is always worth chasing!
A sweet story, even when it shocks!
As sweet as the lemon cakes served in the book!
Many thanks to the publishers for allowing me to review this book for them!
http://www.anurseandabook.com/2018/06... I had just come off of a downer of a book, so Love, Lies and Wedding Cake was the perfect antidote. It was a light easy read, and I breezed through it.
Faye is a hairdresser, a mother who has sacrificed her independence to help raise her granddaughter. But Faye also has a hot Australian boyfriend that she gets to enjoy around her daughter's daycare needs.
When Dan proposes and asks Faye to move back to Australia, she puts her desires aside and says no, she needs to be here for her daughter and granddaughter. Ugh. Faye puts on a stiff upper lip and gets on with her life without Dan.
But a year later, her daughter decides to get married and move herself and her daughter to Scotland. So now Faye wants to reconcile with Dan, but he's not answering her calls or texts. But she decides to go to Australia for the chance to talk to him and see if their love can be rekindled.
But when she gets there she finds more complications than she is sure she wants at this stage of life. Will it be worth it to be with Dan? A great book about how amazing the second chapter of life can be!
Yes, yes, yes! Another excellent book by Sue Watson! I hesitated before reading this book because it's the second part of a series called "Love, lies and lemon cake" and I didn't read it. But I was really tempted by reading it because I really enjoy Sue Watson's books usually so I decided to give it a go and I am so happy I did it! If you haven't read the first book in the series, don't worry, you can still read the second part and understand everything. I have been hooked by the story from first line to last line. And what I loved about this book is that I found myself laughing out loud more times than I could count. The main character, Faye is so goofy, but so lovely at the same time. I also loved the character of Rosie, Faye's granddaughter... a 5 years old who knows what she wants! so cute! so funny! And it was lovely to be able to travel to Australia with Faye and feel the ocean breeze! I enjoyed this book so much! I recommend it!
It’s worth reading any Sue Watson book purely for the fun chapter titles and Love, Lies and Wedding Cake is no exception. I read this book in a couple of days and loved it from start to finish.
Faye has a gorgeous, younger Aussie boyfriend named Dan and they’ve spent a couple of years travelling around some of the most romantic places, sightseeing and enjoying cakes all over the world. They’ve been happy enough but then Dan proposes and asks her to move to Australia with him. But what about Faye’s daughter Emma and her rather brilliant and funny granddaughter Rosie? They need her too but can she leave them and move to the other side of the world?
This book is brilliantly written, fun, witty and a genuinely feel-good book. I can highly recommend it. Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the chance to review.
Second chance at romance with a more mature character than usual, well, that was right up my alley. I'd not read the first book but that wasn't a problem because I was able to hop right into the story. Faye and Dan might seem a slightly odd couple but their adventures prove that's not the case. His proposal, however, knocks her for a loop. Let go of some of the implausible things (Rosie is 3 and talking like an adult) and just enjoy. You know where this is likely going to go but Watson throws in enough twists to keep it engaging. Thanks to netgalley for the ARC.
This is Sue Watson doing what she knows best - making us laugh, making us cry, but most importantly writing stories about believable characters we can identify with.
Well I can anyway :)
Sue should still to this genre, and leave the thrillers to those who have gone before you...I almost didn't read this one because the thriller put me off so much.
