Tales From The Multiverse #1

BOB's Bar: Tales From the Multiverse Volume 1

Rate this book
What happens when your favorite characters meet in a bar?

BOB isn't just a bartender and Bethany Anne isn't just a patron. Neither are Tanis, Amanda, Ryck, Cal, Marc, or Terry Henry.

What stories do our heroes from seven different successful series talk about when they come together in one place, at one time.

From the minds of Michael Anderle, Jonathan P. Brazee, M.D. Cooper, Craig Martelle, Barry J. Hutchison, Andrew Dobell, and Richard Fox.

Listen in as both the drinks and the bar stories both flow with reckless abandon.

A unique and original way to bring together main characters from different authors/ universes to a strange bar in another dimension?, relating their own stories, funny, hilarious and incongruous tales! I have read some of the books from these authors, others new that have prompt me to read them. Loved the concept! Bob, the controller... I hope we get to know what’s behind this strange reunion!

Entertaining paranormal listening 🎶🔰

Another will written paranormal fantasy world 🌎 a number of short stories by various authors (The Multiverse book one). As with all box 📦 sets some of the stories told by a group standing a table in a futuristic bad run by Bob are very good and others not so much. This is all personal preference so give it a try. Enjoy the adventure of reading 👓 or listening 🎶 to Alexa read books 📚. 2023 👒😊😡

Where everybody knows your name

Very nice concept of a novel. Grab a bunch of people from different books/universe and put them in a comfortable bar. I hope that this gets more stories for Bob and the Collector. There are many characters that I would want to visit this bar.

Intriguing...

Loved how the authors all pulled together to come up with series of tales about each of their own characters. They all meet up in a bar of all places and it makes the reader wonder who this Collecter is and is there anything nefarious behind it. Bring on book 2 to see if there are any answers to these questions!

What a fun and interesting set of stories!

All of the stories were interesting, some more serious and others a bit zany. LOL Great story telling!

While I have read books already by several of the authors, some were new to me. Their short stories are definitely enough to get me interested in reading more in their universes.

For the retired Marine authors: Semper Fi!

And, I noticed the end matter shows Jonathan Brazee has several books with women Marines. Oorah! As a woman who served two tours and an extension in the Marines, I love reading about strong female leads, especially if they are smart and capable Marines!!

Thank you to all the authors!

(I hope I didn't over do it with the exclamation points.. nah!)

You have to read quite a bit to appreciate it. But seeing the character interactions is definitely worth it.

I came to the world of BOB's Bar (Tales From The Multiverse) backwards, glomming onto its book 2 solely because one of my all-time favorite authors, Lindsay Buroker, had contributed a story. That tale, Ladies’ Night, Stars was as superb as I expected. It stars General Ridgewalker Zirkander (Ridge), a favorite character from the author’s Dragon Blood Series (first book of which, Balanced on the Blades’ Edge, is free on kindle by the way) and includes probably the coolest weapon in sci-fi and fantasy (and steampunk), the “sublime” sentient soulblade Jaxi (who has the neat trick of being able to telepathically chat with Ridge and his wife Sardelle (Jami’s regular sword bearer), another character fave, though absent from this tale. But enough drooling over that wonderful tale and let me turn back to BOB, short for Binary Operated Being and his inter-dimensionally floating bar busy gathering tales for the mysterious Collector. This is probably the best excuse for collecting wonderful short stories since Spider Robinson’s Callahan’s Crosstime Saloon and the bar motif works perfectly for that context. Even better in that this bar operates as a great excuse for bringing in characters from across sci-fi-dom. A neat way to introduce a reader to some she (or he) might not have come across from otherwise. Book 2 was so good that I immediately purchased Book 1 (yes, I know I did this backwards). Equally well done and equally fun. My only problem is that now there are a bunch of “new” (well, new to me at least) authors I need to try out. Bottom line here is that, but for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises. Both of these anthologies definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that each anthology is most definitely “one to read”, and each is easy to highly recommend.

kindle unlimited, the main issue I had with this one is, although the premise was interesting, it assumed {wrongly} that I have read any of the books and/or know of the characters, when in acuality I have heard of some of the writers but have only read Barry J Hutchinson's Space Team. I have read some of the other writers' stuff, but not any of the ones mentioned in these stories, so doesn't help me at all. So basically, regardless of what some say or what amazon thinks, their rating note of 'okay' is what I mean by 3 stars, NOT I hate it, NOT it's bad, JUST 'okay', and think if they're going to list what a rating means then it should actually MEAN that, so not horrible, bad, great, or fantasitc, just OKAY. I do read the Leira Chronicles which is co-written by Martha Carr with Anderle.

Wow! I started reading this because I'm a fan of the Kuthurian Gamble books, which I'm sure I just horribly butchered the spelling of it. Turns out, I enjoyed all of the world's the tales took place in, and have started a new series based off a tale in a book I was actually really reading for the enjoyment of another series! If that sounds nuts, it's because it has fried my brain. I started out just caring about the Michael Anderle story, but became entranced with the other tales - the other worlds. So I'm currently reading MD Cooper's Aeon 14 Epic Series... Which is amazing. I can't wait to finish these and move on to the next world!

Very Good Mix of Tales

About a 4.5 star for this some of the stories are better than others.
The fame and quality of writing is very good bit the stories themselves maybe a bit more hit and miss dependant on who you recognise.
Favs is Bethany Anne from the Kutherian universe and Tanis from the Aeon 14 universe.
Most of the buyers will be fans of a particular author/s and looking to add more tales to their collection but for a quick read then this may suit those looking to test an author out and then maybe try their first book free etc.
As with any collection of shorts its readers opnion will vary but i thought it a reasonable deal.

Bob's Bar is a construct in which the collector brings beings from the multiverse to have a drink or to fight for their lives. Bob is the robot who must make sure that those who come through his door are ready to talk or fight. The author's who's characters have meet in the bar are some of the best of the multiverse and come with some very interesting stories. From Admiral Tanis Richards to Amanda who is a Magi to a general to Carl who has a pet blob. All of these stories are great and one's not to be missed. I look forward to reading Volume 2 in this anthology series and whom else Bob may bring into the bar.

Excellent collection

This is not remotely anything like Spider Robinson's Callahan series, but it certainly feels like it.
A myriad of characters from different times and places find themselves in a bar and start telling stories, as you do.
These are all ”are you shitting me? " type stories and are well worth the few hours that you invest. And i do mean invest, because you do get back major dividends in laughs, giggles, and series' to read next.
Book 2 had better be coming soon!

Really good read

An entertaining bringing together of main characters and authors from other universes. I was a bit leery of how this would work, but I thought it did pretty successfully. And the story also introduced to me a couple of characters whose stories I had not read before. And so I have to get caught up there. So, you can consider a Mission Successful for Multiverse Book 1. Looking forward to another meet-up.

Totally Brilliant!

I loved this book. It brought together some of my all time favorite characters (Tanis Richards and Bethany Ann) and introduced me to a few more that I can't wait to find out more about. I stumbled across this book completely by accident and finished it in one go... (my boss was not happy when I showed up to work the next morning in zombie mode) I laughed out loud more times then I want to admit. Bravo!

Wow just Wow

I had never read ANY of these authors stories before find BOB s bar and now I want to read more from each!!! But as for this group of stories, they are a stream of stand alone tales, just like Baen's bar and each little twist makes you want more!! these tales are a kind of one upmanship ,with each trying to out b. s. the one just before!!! some make you think and most are in the funny, glad it wasn't me category!

I like the premise, characters from several different authors' are all gathered together in a cosmic bar to share stories and determine which parts of each others' stories are exaggerations. I didn't know any of the characters so this was tough to get into and the commentary didn't flow so well for me. I think if I had known more of the characters that I might appreciate the book more. Great idea overall.

A fun selection of stories, interspersed with great interaction between various characters from different settings. Coming into this, I only knew 2 well, and a couple of the others a little bit, but didn't diminish the fun, and has made me want to read further on some of the characters :) Each story seemed a nice length, to get to know a bit of the character / their universe, without ever dragging.

What a Fabulous find!

I'm blown away - I have read some of these authors before (Anderle, Brazee, Martelle, Dobell) but this was a cool way to meet all the characters too!

If you love sci-fi this is a good starter book because you get the entire list if all the authors books; a summer (& autumn too) reading list, if you're like me!

Can't wait to dig in to the next installment....

Well that was fu*#ing awesome!

I'm a fan of all these authors and characters and whoever had the idea to do this mash up I'd love to buy a beer sometime. It was just a stroke of luck I ran across this book but I'm ready for more! Thanks to all of the authors for their contribution to keeping my sanity by giving me all these cool books to read. I really hope you all get together more often! Fantastic stories and a must read!

Loved the stories

I enjoyed reading these 5 short stories by different authors, and the way the characters all met in a bar to tell them. I already read 2 of the authors and because of this book have bought one of the other author's stories to try. I am hoping that there will be another Bob's bar with more very good stories.

Interesting set of stories

This was an interesting read. Just like sitting with a bartender, you get to hear stories from various characters. Some are out there tales and some are most believable. For me, anything including BA will grab my attention. Now the question of the day would be, who's the Collector???

Fun read

What a blast! I got reacquainted with a couple writers I've enjoyed in the past and some I'll definitely be reading in the future. Bar stories like you've never heard before.....unless you hang out at the American Legion or similar type of place. Some of the sea stories I've heard there where pretty good sci-fi :)

Interesting mix of short stories, as seven characters meet in a cross dimension bar, to swap war stories. This is a good collection of stories, putting seven authors main characters together in a unique cross over universe, good concept to promote other authors, if you are reading one or two of the series.

"There I was, inverted over Hanoi"

Having been a crewchief/doorgunner during Vietnam, I heard my fair share of hehe "fairytales" ,so when I saw the cover page, I knew I had to read this book! I wasn't disappointed, and hope this motif continues. Congrats to all who contributed, you hit a home run!!!

Caution

I'm so disappointed in this volume I'm not sure how to explain. I have ask myself if I'm being unrealistic with my expectations for it. I'm a Kurtherian Gambit fan, but this book isn't. Multiverse, I suppose is all the explanation needed.
Don't read if you're expecting KGU.

A compilation of sea stories from a group of competent story tellers.

A group of talented authors weave their individual universes into a cohesive story set in a mysterious bar, hence the word multivariate in the title. A great way to sample several different authors at the same time and still have a rollicking good read.

Good Read For Mindless Enjoyment

This was an interesting book that I stumbled across. Nothing deep just a collection of interesting stories. I enjoyed the characters enough to download some of the books these characters star in. This was a light breezy read designed to introduce you to these characters and get you interested in them. Can't wait to read volume 2 in the series

There are a few series like this, with a setting in a bar, but the concepts behind this one are novel to me and make good setting for the stories. The stories on the other hand remind me of a group of authors cast off bits and pieces, which if they somehow put together they may be able to sell. Well they could for me, but only the 1st in this series will get my money.

Great sea stories

I got this book because I like one of the authors, Andrew Dobell creator of Amanda. I liked the stories. They were a little absurd and very humorous. Now I want read some of the books by the other authors and learn more about their characters. This book is a great introduction and opens up new doors for adventures in reading.
