This is book 3 in the Paxton Park Mystery series by USA Today Bestselling Author J A Whiting. It is autumn in the mountain resort town of Paxton Park and Shelly Taylor and her friend, Juliet, are on their way to the center of town to see a horror movie. While they wait to cross the street, a car careens around the corner and crashes into a building. The vehicle’s occupant is dead, but it wasn’t the accident that killed her. Will Shelly’s unusual “intuition” be able to help the police gather the needed pieces to solve the puzzle of who murdered the woman in the car? This story has some mild paranormal elements.

I enjoy the series mystery. But the psychic aspect is really falling flat. They hired Shelley to help the police department. Why?? She has not decoded her dreams. She has not figured out who the murder is. Not once. She just stumbled into them in all 3 books. Even when she stumbles into them she still does not get it until the murder explains. So the police hire her to what? Randomly walk in on a crime and hear a confession? Get attacked while sleeping, not solving a clue? The author writes other novels I enjoy. But this seems to happen a lot. Why give them powers if they are zero help? Why not let the characters actually use the powers to solve a mystery. If not? Get rid of the powers and make it a straight mystery. The psychic powers could have been cut out and you would have the exact same story! Nothing was effected by the dreams at all. I love paranormal cozy mysteries. But this author is really lost as to what genre she is writing. Either go all the way and incorporate the powers so the characters are not useless, or give up the paranormal aspect.
JA Whiting has a way with animals. Dogs and cats find their way into her stories and into our hearts. This recent series, Paxton Park Mysteries, is no exception. While mayhem might be happening all around the main characters, the sweet Calico cat aptly named Justice, keeps her cool and her eyes open so she can assist when necessary. This is the third installment in the series, and although it makes the most sense to read the books in order, each could easily stand alone. However, I recommend reading them 1, 2, 3. You just might fall in love with a beautiful mountain resort town, a smart baker, and a sweet, clever Calico cat.
I read the first three Paxton Park books and they all are good stories. This book has a mystery to solve, a murder, and the main character has to help solve it. The author provides great character development and a wonderful setting to tell her story. There is always a twist at the end as to who the killer is. Although I guessed correctly the murderer was, the book is worth the read.
Good reading. This author comes through with good, strong characters, engaging settings, & good mysteries. This book did drag a bit. I felt the solution was obvious a long time before it was revealed. However, it was (almost) forgivable for how well all the other factors were handled. I **did* enjoy the "act" where the perpetrator was revealed.
This was another good mystery by a talented author. I enjoy the settings and characters she writes into her books. I started with the Sweet Cove mysteries and loved them. Time to start another series.
The author has once again proved that she is able to put together a wonderful group of characters in a adventure of suspense and mystery. I have enjoyed this story.
Whenever I see another one of J A Whiting's books available, I can't wait to read it. This one did not disappoint! Interesting story. I'm looking forward to the next one!
I found it very hard to put down this book. Excellent writing, great story, good characters. I did not figure out who the killer was until the book was almost finished. Good series J A Whiting. I hope you add another book or so to this series.
I am so enjoying, not the murder part,of course, these books so far. This author is a joy to read and make her books just mysterious enough to keep you interested. On to the next one!
The Paxton series is relaxing and exciting , I really love the fact that the books have been well proof read. No glaring confusing mistakes, not like in many other authors I've read
A nice read of a mystery of death to a good woman from a jealous woman who wanted what she had. A story of what happens to many relationships. Interesting story without gory violence. I would recommend if you enjoy cozy mysteries.
The Paxton Park mysteries continue to be entertaining! Clever twists to the plot and characters evolving in each new book. Looking forward to the next book in the series.
Interesting plot. I was convinced it had to be one of two different men, but I was wrong. Intriguing story and a good mystery. I like Whiting’s writing.
