This is a pattern book of modern knitware using high end yarn. It began as a digital book series but the publisher is now issuing hardcovers. It has beautiful photographs of the pullover and cardigan sweaters, tee shirts, ponchos, cowls and scarves. Most of the garments seemed slightly oversized. Some of the sweaters are worked in the round.
This is probably not a book for absolute beginners but most of the patterns don't require a lot of experience. There are a few I would definitely like to knit, like the Pismo Beach pullover that has lace stripes down the body and sleeves. The Eastham Poncho is also very pretty, although I think that ponchos are sort of useless garments. All of the lace and cable patterns are charted (which I dislike) but not written out. Because of the charts I probably wouldn't buy this book, but it has some lovely designs.
I received a free copy of this book from the publisher.
The pieces in this book pretty much fall under the "beautiful but not functional" umbrella. It's a gorgeous book but I would probably only seriously consider knitting two items from it.
The Wool Studio is just that- 19 patterns made with luxurious wool yarns. What I love most about this book is that the patterns are not just one size, but are actually written to get up to fairly large sizes. There are a wide variety of patterns including tees, pullovers, cardigans and cowls. This collection is from several different designers, which gives each piece it's own unique flavor. Designs include lacework, cables, and color work. There are also patterns that are more for beginners. The patterns are well written and easy to follow. The charts for lacework and cabling are very detailed. The photographs give several angles so you have a great idea of what the project will look like when completed. There really is something for everyone, and I can't wait to get started on the Falmouth cardigan. I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.
I was interested by the approach of this book. As a would-be minimalist, I like the idea of a capsule wardrobe and of simple, stylish designs that I can mix and match with the rest of my wardrobe. Wool Studio by Meghan Babin does all this. The photographs are also simple and stylish. My issue here was only personal taste - I did like some of the designs and I would like to try and make them, but most of them seemed a bit too "high end" for me. I think they might be more suitable for someone interested in modern fashion.

Wool Studio The Knitwear Capsule Collection by Meghan Babin Loved the picture on the front and even more once I read the description of this book. Can't say enough good things about this book. Love the drape in the high end photographs in this book. Have given away two of my sweaters-long cardigans and am in the market to make new ones and the ideas in this book are just what I needed. Can't decide to which one to try first. Love that the patterns are easy-easy for me and I love the names of the areas on the West and East coasts as I've been through many. Some of the pattern names on their respective pages are hard to read-dark on dark print or light on light print. Introdcution talks about the fun things in this book, the designs and what to expect ahead. The yarn really makes the drape and flirtiness keeping the style glamourous and feminine I feel. Each pattern starts out with a brief summary of the item and how it's assembled and worked. Finished size measurements, yarn to be used and what was used in the finished product, needles required, notions, gauge, and other notes. Stitch guide also gives details of special stitches in the pattern. Very easy to follow-there is no level rating. Some designs are spelled out row by row and then til what length, some are charted on graph style paper. Like the diagram of the finished item and how each section has a letter corresponding to the finished measurements. Cowls I also found so stunning. Love infinity scarves-even have my husband wearing his now for warmth. Charted patterns are very self explanatory and easy to follow along, be sure to read the whole pattern all the way through before you begin. Yarn resources are mentioned, love the section on all the designers, they leave me inspired from the work they do. Other works by the designers are highlighted at the end. Received this review copy from F+W Media via Netgalley and this is my honest opinion.

If you do not enjoy tracking sleeve decreases in bottom-up sweater construction, this is the book for you. The bulk of the patterns in this book are drop-shoulder sleeve construction as shown on the cover.
There are also five or six less-elaborate top-down patterns with raglan sleeves as well as patterns for scarves, cowls, and an asymmetrical poncho that may make the purchase worth while if you don’t like drop-shoulder sleeves.
This is a compilation of 21 simple yet sophisticated designs for the modern woman. The featured yarns and designers combine to celebrate one of my favourite maxims, less is more. This knit.wear collection celebrates slow fashion and timeless design. The resulting patterns show possibility between stockinette and complex lace to highlight the beauty of wool and knitted stitches. The choices of yarns and stitches cover the seasonal spectrum, making it possible for to work through all the designs to build a wardrobe that encompasses the year. While many of the designs are not to my style, Bristol Ivy’s Hyannis Port Pullover and the Avila Tee by Amanda Bell, are both toward the top of my to-knit list. This is an interesting collection with a stunning group of designers.

This is one of the most beautiful and creative knitting books I've seen recently. The styles included are so beautiful. I would love to knit more than half the patterns in the book, which is a rarity! My favorites were the Pismo Beach pullover, Malibu Cowl, Topanga Canyon cardigan, and Avila Tee, which just shows the spectrum of patterns included. The designers included are all big names, so you know their patterns are trustworthy too. And the photography is gorgeous! I especially appreciate that while the pictures are clearly stylized, they also included enough detail shots so you know what you are getting without having to read every detail of the pattern before starting. In these days of moody photos, that is definitely worth noting.
Wool Studio is a print copy of 21 patterns originally included in Wool Studio 2016 and Wool Studio Volume II. It contains an impressive collection of garments by some of my favorite designers, including Bristol Ivy and Veronik Avery. The yarn weights span fine to worsted, mostly luxury wool blends, and the designs include a range of very interesting details. One particular feature that I appreciate is that all patterns note the amount of ease shown in the modeled test garment.
While some of the photography choices were a little puzzling (a lacy linen poncho modeled over a hooded sweatshirt?), I found many designs to knit in this volume, and even more ideas for design features to incorporate into other projects.
The Wool Studio is just that, a capsule collection of patterns made with luxurious wool yarns. What I liked about this book is that some of the patterns are written for large sizes. There are a wide variety of patterns including tees, pullovers, cardigans and cowls. The photos of the finished garments are beautiful and there shots of each item from various angles. Some of the patterns do not seem very modern and I wouldn’t be used for years and years. Some of the patterns are very trendy and will probable only be wearable for a few years. I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.
I thought many of the sweaters in this book are very well designed but just not my style nor my idea of something I'd want to spend knitting. Many of the pieces skew loose, oversized with miles and miles (and miles and miles) of stockinette stitch. There is lots of interesting details, cables, lace stitches, slits, and draping. The palette is neutral. There is no color work save for one sweater with a couple stripes and one piece knit with a variegated yarn.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Full of modern, stylish knitted tops, scarves, cardigans, wraps, sweaters, and much more, this is a beautiful work for, in my opinion, the intermediate knitter. Photography is stunning, instructions very well presented, providing many ideas for knitters.
I wanted to like this collection - I am into the idea of a capsule wardrobe - however I think in actuality my maximalist style just does not fit with it. I could not bear the thought of putting time and yarn into these patterns - although they would definitely appeal to someone with a more minimalist style
While this had a lot of lovely patterns, there were only a few I would consider making. Some of the patterns seemed dated, and though a l/s blouse under a s/s sweater is still trendy, the styles didn’t quite seem to jive.
The photos were so bad. Most of the models were posed in such awkward positions and it made it so hard to visualize how the garments might look on me. Maybe two designs looked interesting to knit.
An advanced reader copy was provided through NetGalley.
The only constructive criticism I have is that the gray on gray text of the title and description is sometimes hard to read. Otherwise, 5 stars.
The first think I look for is a wide range of sizes and this book doesn't disappoint. There are only a few designs that I think I would have to modify for an extended plus size fit.
Other reviewers mention that the book is too "runway" or high end. I disagree. Yes, most of the designs are on trend but they seem wearable for a variety of body types.
As soon as this gets published I'm adding several designs to my queue.

Before this book, I'd never come across a knitting book where NONE of the patterns appealed to me at all. Sadly, WOOL STUDIO broke that streak for me. The introduction says "this is a time capsule-collection series for the modern woman featuring sophisticated, simple, and luxurious knitwear. We've paired talented designers with exceptional yarns to bring you a chic and timeless collection of knits." Perhaps the issue is that I'm not into runway fashions and that's what a large percentage of the patterns look like to me. I'm giving the book 3 stars because it does cater to knitters on various levels of skill, but I'd warn would-be users that it doesn't cater to wearers of various sizes...almost all the patterns would top out at an XL, though most only go to an L size.
I wasn't overly impressed with this collection. There were a couple of people I really enjoyed and might make, but overall I felt uninspired by the sweater patterns provided here. The drop cap sleeves in most of the patterns don't always work with the style of the sweater, and I found them a bit outdated because of that.
The style and selection in the book is good, just not for me. I did like the layout--having multiple angle pictures of each style is incredibly helpful when deciding on a project. I wish more books would employ this as a standard rather than the exception.
*I received a free copy of the book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
The book looks bold and colourful and is certainly well designed but was disappointed most of the patterns were a little dated looking and all the patterns I considered were circular knitting, think it needs to be clearer. With that in mind I found it was beyond my skill level
A wonderful book of traditional knitting patterns with a gentle twist. There are 21 lovely patterns, extremely well presented, with charts, sketch of components and easy to follow directions. These are probably not for beginners, although they are not difficult. Designed by 16 different designers these classical designs will be worn for years to come, they are absolutely gorgeous and offer something different.
Woolstudio - The Capsule Collection captured my attention with its knitting designs that look modern, uncomplicated, comfortable, and elegant at the same time. The two models I am very interested in knitting are Monterey Tee with its airy lace pattern and the Chatam Pullover with its simple pattern that makes the yarn shine. I also love the Malibu Cowl for which I already have a yarn I could use.
This is a most useful knitting pattern book, being that it covers all the separates you will need to get you through the year. The instructions are clear and the illustrations are helpful, although you might not be familiar with some of the instructions as British and American are sometimes different. Interweave publish some very inspiring manuals etc., and this is no exception. Recommended. My thanks to Interweave publishers and Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to review this book.
This is an absolutely first rate knitting book Definitely one that i would be proud to own. The photography is beautiful. the patterns are great. I can easily see myself knitting several of the items from this book. The patterns are well written and the use of yarns is excellent You will love this book!!
This is one of the few times I may write this. This book of sweater patterns is just not a good candidate for an ebook. I am an avid knitter but the formatting, design, and presentation on my kindle does not enable proper viewing of the finished works. So my interest just is not sparked.
