I'm convinced this author is a Brit who writes about Americans. They take place in the States but she uses lots of British terminology.
The hero Maddox is really insecure about Macy being wealthy which makes the story awkward to read. I like my heroes to be a bit more confident, everybody has things they are unsure about but Maddox feels like a 12 year old dancing with a girl for the first time not a grown man with 2 jobs.
