Bookstore owner Baylee Anderson worked her ass off to get her store up and running. Living in the wilds of Montana, in the small town of Hangman's Haunt, the population isn't massive and tourism is pretty non-existent. Nevertheless, her dream is alive and flourishing. Spending most of her precious spare time with her childhood friends in a clearing the locals call Hangman's Copse, a place rumored to be haunted by all manner of ghosts and ghouls, myths and legends, Baylee is grounded, stuck in a rut she loves. When tall, dark and brooding Daxon Gillies walks through her shop door, Baylee finds herself drawn to him by the arching currents of carnal attraction between them. After a brief and rudely interrupted make-out session, Baylee wants to know the sinfully attractive Daxon better. From there, their fledgling romance hits an unexpected snag...
Daxon of the Gillies clan hails from California--a long way from the chilly mountain ranges of Hangman's Haunt. He has a mission; to track down and return his youngest brother Kaiyan to the safety of home territory. His brother, however, seems determined to elude Daxon's attempts, and Daxon finds himself torn between finding Kaiyan and fighting the delicious distraction Baylee presents. Not to mention, Daxon's hiding a little secret...
This is my first book by this author and it won’t be my last. It is alway a bit of a gamble when you read something from an author you have never read before, but it paid off. I loved this book.
It is well written, fast paced with lots of twist and turns, engaging characters, very steamy and emotional. Once I started reading i couldn’t stop. It is quite a ride.
Baylee is a wonderful characters, smart, loves book and has a good heart. I loved how she stood up for herself, even against her friends, and did what felt right for her.
Daxon was a wonderful dominant, but also kind hearted guy. He and Baylee were just so right for eachother.
And I loved all the interaction with their other half so to speak.
This isn’t your average PNR book. It is a bit different and it is a good length book. so there is plenty of time to tell the story.
DNF @ 25% I feel like with the advent of longer sample chapters authors have somehow found a way to hold back ‘the crazy’ long enough to entice me to download the entire book. Lucky for me I downloaded this for free (thanks prime membership) because shortly after the sample, everything went to hell in a hand basket. Disclaimer: I find myself in the middle of a reading rut. I can’t seem to find anything worth sticking with to the end right now, which also means that books that I probably could have pushed through to the end for the sake of saying so, I no longer have any drive to do so. My tolerance for ‘mediocre to bad’ is shot, and I’m allowing myself sometime to filter out the innane before getting back into the swing of reviewing everything and anything.
Back to Wild. I very much appreciate Parker’s attempt to give us an older heroine. One who has a committed way of life and is secure in the lot she’s got. When Daxon enters the scene, he is appropriately alluring and dangerous while maintaining an air of sexy courtesy. I also appreciate that it’s written in 3rd person. I’ve never been a huge fan of 1st although I’m willing to try for the right author, but 3rd has always come across as more mature and well rounded to me, so kudos to Parker for breaking from the typical paranormal mold. Sadly this is where my praise ends. Shortly after their initial meeting Daxon and 30 year old virgin Baylee find themselves caught in a whirlwind of lust leading to sexy time on a couch in the woods. For one, it goes on entirely too long, this coming from a reader who is in no way, shape, or form afraid of smut. And it’s introduced before the characters even have any introductory conversation, thus they have no chemistry. Secondly, it’s tastelessly written with pre-pubescent dirty talk. Then from there it just falls apart. The self possessed woman I thought I knew flees in the night, leaving behind a trembling, insecure, submissive woman who appears ready to do anything Daxon asks of hers and needs him to protect her from all things.
Overall it just appears to go from zero to one hundred with no character progression and while I probably could have gotten through it and given it a mediocre rating, or maybe allowed it to semi-redeem itself (semi, because I have no hope that it will ever be ‘good’) I don’t have the patience right now so let’s put everyone out of their misery and move on.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.Wild: Hangman's Haunt Book 1 Hangman's Haunt Book 1 by Kay Elle Parker is an Erotic Paranormal Shifter Romance, When tall, dark and brooding Daxon Gillies walks through her shop door, Baylee finds herself drawn to him by the arching currents of carnal attraction between them. After a brief and rudely interrupted make-out session, Baylee wants to know the sinfully attractive Daxon better. A very well written and fast-paced read, with developed characters, and plot. The chemistry between Baylee and Dex is hot and steamy. Couldn’t put Wild down.
While this isn't my normal genre, the intensity of the book drew me in. Baylee is a small town girl, it's the only life she's known. And while she isn't saving herself for marriage, the right man hasn't come along. That's where Dax comes in and turns Baylee's life upside down, there is an instant attraction, an unexplained connection and Baylee can't ignore it. Dax is way more than she could have ever expected but she won't continue to lead her life without him. Wild is very well written and fast-paced, with engaging characters, and intense scenes. The connection between Baylee and Dex, their hot and steamy connection is palpable. The strength of both Baylee and her friends is admirable. Parker has put together a wonderful paranormal-shifter-romance, with insta-love, that works extremely well through her creative storytelling.
Wow! I didn’t know what to expect but this story was amazing. It is one rollercoaster ride after another. I laughed and I cried while reading it. The author did a great job of bringing the characters to life. Baylee is such a wonderful person and meeting Daxon was like a hit and run. They were fated from the moment both scented the air. He knew she was something special but her being human meant the scent just pulled her. And the three best friends just made the book all the better. All I can say is if you like paranormal romances with a deep story, then you need to read this one.
I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of the book.
First time reading Kay and OMG was this hot. This book was amazing. I could not put it down until I finished reading it. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who is looking to read it and aren’t sure if they want to. Trust me, you will love it.
I voluntarily read an Advanced Reading Copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
This book blew me away. It was intriguing. I was on the edge of my seat. Never have I read a shifter book quite like this. I was never bored. The ending was perfect. The writing was spectacular and I want more. It was very sexy and very emotional and I hope more people discover this author and give her a chance.
My first book by this author. I’ll be honest, I thought I wouldn’t finish it. I found the sexual encounter at the start absolutely over the top and a bit ridiculous. I’m glad i kept reading though, it does actually turn into a story and a good one at that. Not a book for me, but others will love it!
Friendship that you can rely on. A scintillating romance. Survival of your shifter clan. “Baylee was fire. She burned bright, and when they came together sparks flew. Literally. He’d felt them running beneath her skin, dancing wildly in the flames of her passion”.
Risking all to be with the one fate has determined is yours. Touching, Exciting and wonderfully written!!

Wow, I absolutely LOVED Wild. This is my first time reading Kay so was not sure what to expect. Can I just say she didn't disappoint. I was hooked from the first chapter. The characters came to life on the page and I got pulled in. I laughed, cried and even shouted at the book at one point.
Baylee is such a loveable character and she has some great friends behind her. Happy in her life in a small town that she has never left. Then along comes hot, sexy Daxon and her whole world changes.
If you like shifter books that have twists and turns and keep you on your toes, this is the book for you. I can't wait for the next book in this series.
I received this book as an advanced reader copy and let me just say wow, wow, wow. If you love shifter romance in all its glory, this is certainly a must read. Kay Elle Parker’s wordsmithing skills are major, each chapter I could see so easily in my mind’s eye. Wild was an easy read and one you will not want to put down. Can’t wait to read the next upcoming installment in this series.

This book is so professional. A very thought out book. The chemistry between the two main characters is electrifying, they are so intense, I love it. The paranormal is a good touch to it as well as the sexy-love that happens. The book is really worth a read. I would recommend to anyone who is interested in this genre of books.

Just finished this book and it is absolutely brilliant. Compelling page turner of a book and superbly well written. Never read a shifter book before but can’t wait for the next one.
Kay Elle Parker has given us an interesting paranormal world. This book tends to focus primarily on shifters, which are different to werewolves. Shifters are born and can generally shift to a variety of animals. Some shifters, like our hero Daxxon, are genetically limited to a certain kind of animal. Daxon is limited to felines and likes the panther the most. The shifters aren't tied to the moon the way that werewolves are.
The story in general tends to focus on a small town in Montana, Hangman's Haunt, and around 4 friends who are nearly sisters, Baylee, Cassie, Alix, and Brenna. Wild is Baylee's book.
Baylee is a 30 year old virgin. She owns a bookstore in town. One day, Daxon walks into her store and she just becomes wildly attracted to him immediately. This isn't anything she normally does, so the fact that she is feeling this way is totally confusing to her. But when he asks her for a date, and then comes back and closing time to make out with her, she's all good with it.
Dax is the oldest son of the Gillies Clan. He is meant to rule after his father. He's shown up to this small Montana town with its rumors of ghosts and haunts and spooky things to find his younger brother Kaiyan. Kaiyan likes to run away from the family. Frankly, knowing what I know about his father, I don't freaking blame him. Then, Dax walks into the bookstore and sees Baylee and knows that he's found his mate, even though he has to walk away from her.
OMG, intense story. There are some really horrible spots in the book, places where I couldn't help but cry my eyes out. There were also places where I got really mad on Baylee's behalf. I'm telling you, there are times when people really sucked in this book. However, there are also some really bright and shining times, which more than make up for the horrible places.
For adult readers only due to sexual content. Bayley and her 3 friends have been together since they were young. They all live in a small town called Hangman's Haunt. Bayley is 30 , and the oldest of the group, she is also a virgin. Bayley has put pretty much all her money into her book store, that was her dream, she loves, she's a bit of a nerd. Bayley has never really been all that attracted to a guy anyway, until Daxon walks into her little store. Daxon is a shifter, the first born son or his clan's alpha, next in line to rule the clan. Dax's father sent him out to find his youngest brother, who likes to run off from time to time. Dax had no desire to find his mate until his panther caught the sent of Bayley. I really liked this story! Dax and his clan can turn into more than one animal, that awesome! Not all of their offspring become shifters, it's something about DNA and genetics, which it explained it the story, luv that. The shifters in this story can NOT change a human in this story, there has to be special circumstances to due with genetics that are explained in the story, luv that. Bayley has 3 best friends which are mentioned often and most of the time are the most like, I luv that I have an extreme dislike for her friend Allix. There so many more things to like about this one. Well written, great characters, well edited, action, adventure, hunky man, steamy sex scenes, strong woman who aren't afraid to fight for what's theirs, and romance. A great start to the series, I'll be reading book two. RECOMMENDED
I have some serious concerns about this book but will address then in two parts.
First - no plot spoilers -
The storyline pulls you along at pace, the character leads are believable and the pace of the book is just about right. If you like shifter books then you will like this book. High romance, betrayal, feisty female lead and high drama. I have never cried so much when reading a book before.
PLOT SPOILERS ALERT
The main concern with this book surround the fact he knowingly gets her drunk whilst pregnant. I mean, where was his Alpha Dominant caring? Did it take a leave of absence in the presence of sex? Then there was how grossly he underestimated his father and the depth of evil despite the fact Baylee knew within minutes that his dreams were based on lies. Then there was the inconsistent Dom. I dunno, it felt sometimes that the author made up what a Dim is rather than research the genre.
Having said all that I have purchased the next book simply because it's a good storyline and yes, I enjoyed this book.
When i first started reading this i thought it was going to be your run of the mill shifter romance . Apologies to Kay Elle Parker i couldn't of been more wrong . yes it starts with a with a hot stranger seducing the towns virgin but that's just the tip of the iceberg . Let down by her friends Baylee decides her life belongs with Daxon & is willing to leave her home to live with his family & clan . Unfortunately its not the happy settlement Baylee has been led to believe , even Daxon is shocked by her reception & she's left fighting to survive , Daxon is hugely betrayed by those who are supposed to love him & splits are torn open within the clan . This is a great first book in the series , i love Baylee's friends , even warmed to Allix in the end , also liked the fact the shifter's animals have characteristics & thoughts differing from the people who become them , that's a nice twist , looking forward to the next in series .
3.5 stars This story had so many things going for it. The mystery and intrigue around the town. The surprises of who and what these shifters turned into and what they did to protect their kind. The discord among the family and the rift that happened after bringing in an outsider. Stir that all together and WOW...but then, BDSM...why?
I'm not a prude, I loved 50 SofG just as much as everyone else, but in my opinion this story did not need that element. Even to the point where the main character had a playroom. Shifters are naturally alpha, this story did not need the D/s element.
So many wonderful things, strong heroines and super alpha males....yes, all the makings of a stellar series. If BDSM is your thing, you're going to love this! The next book will feature a new couple, I may give it a try.
3.5 stars. I have mixed feelings about this book. On one hand the overall plot is a good story. When they reach California, it really peaked my interest, and the characters are very likable. If you like BDSM as well, this book is for you. However, there were a couple things for me that kept it from being a great book. The flow of the story sometimes felt disjointed, almost as if the author sometimes changed things at the last minute and threw it in. To me, I also felt some of the sex scenes were just extra, just to have and were maybe not needed. If you love sex scenes and feel the more the merrier, this should not bother you at all. Overall a good book.
Paranormal shifter romances can be hit or miss, but this was definitely a HIT! I could really relate to Baylee's character, bookish and sweet, usually playing it safe. Yet, she and Daxon cannot deny the deeply rooted attraction between them. It's carnal and oh so sexy, but she has no idea just how much her life would change! I loved this high-octane story, the first in the series. The world-building and descriptions set the scenes so well, and the characters all helped to make this a great read! I look forward to the next book!
Friendship that you can rely on. A scintillating romance. Survival of your shifter clan. “Baylee was fire. She burned bright, and when they came together sparks flew. Literally. He’d felt them running beneath her skin, dancing wildly in the flames of her passion”.

What a pleasant surprise. I wasn't expecting the details and depth in this. I figured it would just be a quick and frivolous, albeit enjoyable, experience. It was that, however, it was so much more. There was humor, great secondary characters, and a foundation for a great story.
The story started out a little out there but there was just something about the story that kept me going. And then, it got better and better. I'm looking forward to the next story.
This is a really great read once you pick it up you won't be able to stop reading I couldn't. This is the first book I have read by this author and I can guarantee it won't be the last I am a massive shifter fan and this did not disappoint it pulled me in from the first chapter and I could not read it fast enough. I cannot wait to read more. I would recommend this book to all
This book literally blew me away, such a captivating read! I absolutely loved it. A gripping storyline with an array of characters with just the right amount of pace to rack the tension up, not too fast, not too slow. I have eagerly downloaded the next in the series! This is a fantastic paranormal read and I will one click the authors next books!
