It all started in the usual manner. Vicky fondling slimy beastie tentacles, me shouting at her, everything going wrong, us eventually getting away, even getting paid. But our new client, bored with his life, decided he wanted in on some wizard action. What better way to do that than summon the Hangman?

Before I could say, "Hey, don't touch that," everything came crashing down and being chased by an immortal dude in dusty jeans and surprisingly boxfresh footwear became just one problem among many.

It had been a bad year and I was in a funk, so I really couldn't be arsed with any of it. Until it involved family and friends.

So, yeah, here we are again, but all hope is lost, and I'm more confused than a wizard at a barber's, but that's life, I guess.

Hi, I'm Arthur "The Hat" Salzman. Gangster. Wizard. Somewhat suicidal.

We are at the sixth book in the Wildcat Wizard series. Arthur the Hat is up to his old tricks in his jobs, and while in the middle of one, he finds out Sasha has disappeared into a Path to what he and George suspect is Faery. Of course, Arthur can’t let that stand, and he and his ragtag team mount a rescue. As I always say in a review about this series, this book was fast-paced, fun, and well-written. I am really enjoying the new character in Arthur’s repertoire, and so far he (it?) hasn’t become a crutch (something to always rely on when Arthur’s in trouble) which I like, and he was hilarious in this installment. Something I also especially loved about this book was that we got a glimpse of Arthur and Sasha’s past, and why they ended up being the good friends that they are. (Short story, anyone, to fill in the rest of the blanks?) One thing I do have to warn readers about is that this one is especially graphic. This was a wonderful installment in a great series! Highly recommend! Thanks to the author for the e-book which I reviewed voluntarily.

Hang ‘Em High

Full Disclosure – I was provided a copy of the book by the author as a member of his “A-Team”, however, have voluntarily chosen to write a review. All opinions are my own.

Lost Hope is the sixth in the Wildcat Wizard series of novels by author Al K. Line. In this installment, we pick up with Arthur, George, and Vicky close to a year after the close of Honor Bound. Arthur is in a funk after the demise of his relationship with Candy and finds himself in a deep depression. To cope with the insecurities that were left behind by the ill-fated relationship, he finds himself taking on more dangerous jobs in an effort to feel something. After delivering the goods to a mamma’s boy named “Juice”, Arthur is ready for a nap, but things go sideways as they always do. Juice has unleashed a formidable entity known as “The Hangman” who, after having offed Juice’s mom and her henchmen is now after The Hat. To make matters worse, an urgent call from George reveals that Sasha has gone missing. Arthur takes on an unlikely “pseudo sidekick” in Juice on this adventure as he travels into the world of Fae to locate and rescue the three women most important to him.

The beginning of this installment is very reminiscent of the first book in this series where we are thrust right into the chaos with no chance to catch our breath. This sets the tone for the rest of the story where Arthur is pretty much dragged along into the world of the Fae to rescue Sasha, Vicky, and George. Being driven by Sasha’s memories, Arthur is taken down a bizarre memory lane to unravel the mystery of who is keeping Sasha hostage and why.

Okay, so this was a weird one, but still packed full of the humor that Al K. Line is known for in all his books. With the action fast and full on from jump Arthur has barely any time to wallow in his depression and believe me, that’s a good thing! Arthur is definitely family driven and we see that in spades in this episode. Cerberus is also emerging as a continuing thorn in his side, and one I would love to see dealt with sooner rather than later. Lost Hope is a good progression in this series and I am looking forward to the next installment “Kinky Bones”. I can only imagine what nastiness the world, Cerberus and the next random baddie has in store for The Hat.

After concluding a messy battle with a slimy beast, and completing the assigned retrieval, Arthur ‘The Hat’ Salzman, and his sidekick, the homicidal housewife, Vicky, go to get their payment. But, their client, ‘Juice’, has decided that he wants some ‘excitement’ in his life. After summoning the Hangman, and ordering him to kill his mother, Martha, Juice hooks up with Arthur and Vicky, and gets them started on a dangerous escapade that threatens not only their lives, but the lives of their loved ones.

Lost Hope by Al K. Line is book number six in the Wildcat Wizard series, and, just like the first five, has a generous helping of matricide, monstercide, and just about every other form of offing bad guys. Whipped back and forth between his normal plane of existence and a few unimaginable other worlds, Arthur decides that his only way out is to send Juice and his minions to their final rest. But, his plans are complicated by the appearance of an old nemesis with an agenda of his own.

If this book doesn’t get your juices flowing, you, my friend, are juiceless. This is without a doubt, the best book of this series, and I can’t wait to see what The Hat gets up to next.

I received a free copy of this book, and I give it five stars. It shines in the universe of paranormal adventure books.

Lost Hope is the sixth book in the Wildcat Wizard series by Al K. Line. The complete series is available in a boxset, twelve books for the price of one #winning. What a great way to get your book-binge on.
The Wildcat Wizard Complete Collection Box Set contains the entire Wildcat Wizard series by Al K. Line. It is an epic, original, and intriguing urban fantasy series - woven with wizards, vampires, magic, paranormal elements, action, adventure, mystery, suspense, danger, drama, humour, heists, quests, the supernatural, and interesting quirky characters.
The Hat is a great character, he’s a bit of an anti-hero, as he gets caught up in quite an adventure (or two) with a few heists, mobsters, criminals, villains, and dangerous and dramatic developments to contend with. Along with his fairy godmother, they take us on quite a ride- one you won’t forget anytime soon.
Happy Reading…

Thank you, Al K. Line!

Arthur “The Hat” Salzman has been out of sorts since killing his girlfriend a year ago - not that she didn't richly deserve it!
Maybe a little thievery from a mad scientist will put a pep in his step again?
Nope, as is the way more often than not when Arthur works, things go very badly wrong.
"Lost Hope" will stick in my memory mainly because of the heroic, if ever so disgusting, actions of Steve the Badger Shifter.
The book, however, does suffer from being very similar to others in the Wildcat Wizard series (a problem when you read too many in a row). I'm taking a break from the series but will return in the future.

The Hat is tops

I don't know how Mr Line keeps writing these incredible books. I have read all of them and each one is great. The main characters are all so funny and likeable. The storyline keeps you guessing all the way to the end. These books are the definition of urban fantasy. I should know since I read 2 or 3 each week.
