Matt King is on the run. One of the last survivors of the catastrophic expedition to Brisbane, he has a nuclear launch codebook vital to the survival of the human race - desperately trying to keep it from rogue military forces commanded by the ruthless General Draeger.
Behind enemy lines, in the so-called Republic of New England, Matt discovers a very different place to the zombie-ravaged world beyond. In fortress towns patrolled by conscripted soldiers, people are not just surviving but thriving - trading freedom for safety, ruled over by a brutal military dictatorship.
Lost and alone, cut off from his allies and hunted like an animal, Matt will face his greatest challenge of all: surviving the darkness at the heart of General Draeger's kingdom of hell.
So glad to see this finally published! I started reading it way back when he was writing on Livejournal (remember when that was a thing?) - and I was delighted to see how this was kept up over time and a loooong story finally finished. It's also great to see how a writer changes, grows, and improves over time from the first book in the series to the last. Great zombie story, fantastic post-apocalyptic story, wild plot, lovable characters.
Once again GREAT book! I'm really enjoying the series. Can't wait to read what happens next. The editing issues in books 2-4 have gotten so much better, still misspellings and errors, but nothing in comparison! Almost quit reading on book 3 it was so bad. Happy to see it got better.
Good series and a lot of action with the living and the dead. Main characters (the brothers) are so different from other characters in zombie books. Love seeing a whole new concept of why the zombies exist.
It moves so fast and has so much action I have to put it down because I need to rest
Probably not the best book for me right now cuz I'm feeling depressed and with all the blood and guts and action and the pandemic going on for real I'm exhausted but it's an excellent book
Easy to read. Well written. Very descriptive. A better proof reader required as at least one character is shot and then shot in head to stop reanimation. Yet he attacks a page or two later. Only a small niggle but overall this is a five star read.
Despite being somewhat repetitive (they get caught, they escape, they get caught, they escape, ...) this book was flat out awesome. It might be my favorite of the first five.
