The Legacy

Rate this book
What if you only *thought* you were the world's first super-hero?

Josh is 17; he has a lot to learn and very little time to learn it in. He's trying his best to deal with the problems of not quite being the adult he wants to be and suddenly he can do all these things that nobody else can do. At least that's what he thinks.

What if you're not what you thought you were? What if your parents aren't who you thought they were? What if the world isn't what you thought it was?

The Legacy is the superhero the world didn't know it was waiting for.

DNF. I first heard about this book on Twitter which speaks to the marketing power of that platform. The author was asking someone I follow to read this book and write a review.

The premise is interesting and the characters have the potential to be fascinating. The problem, as I see it, is the book is not fleshed out. It’s spare without being minimalist. I started it and stopped. Then it hung around on my mind for several days. I came to the conclusion that I liked the story but it read like an outline. I want to read it when it is finished.

It would be awesome to talk to an editor about this book. For example, there is a bit of foreshadowing that is presented and it sits there on a bare plane of existence. I wanted more context, more descriptions, not just a tree but a forest of background. Even though I did not finish it, I think there are at least 2 books lurking in there waiting to be fleshed out. Please, more sophisticated readers, comment.

Refreshingly different perspective

I plunged into this book with no expectations, no reviews, no recommendations pro or con. And I loved it. So many contemporary sci fi and fantasy works with teenaged protagonists depict them as eise beyond their years, with inner strength and hitgerto undiscovered leadership potential. Here we have a callow, impulsive kid who is clueless about the world, but who is forced to confront a bizarre.... well, destiny is not too strong a word.

Recommended.

I loved this book. I noticed a lad I follow on Twitter wrote it so thought I would give it a go. I wasn't expecting much, just a bit of a read for solidarity, but honestly I really loved it. It would make an amazing film. The cover reminded me of Ian McCulloch too. Without giving spoilers it focussed a bit around special powers this lad has (in the book, not the author, well I think not...), which just appeared from nowhere and then expanded in to his every day life. He got in with a group of others like him and then there were some mad twists and turns and a great ending. Really easy to read, gathered pace as it went on and I'm still thinking of it a few days later. Nice one Ian!

A novel, thoroughly absorbing take on the "Superhero" genre.

An entertaining and compulsive read. Some great ideas all narrated compellingly from the first-person perspective. Reminded me to some degree of Chronicle and Hancock. (That's a good thing). I snapped this up for free making this ridiculous value although I'd have been happy to pay the usual asking price. If I see you around, I'll buy you a pint!
