The last thing Claire wanted was to leave. The only thing Hate wanted was for her to stay...
Waking up to find that her girlfriend had left to claim her royal birthright on another planet sucked, though Hate wasn't sure if it sucked more or less than the fact that she was now down a leg and a pair of kidneys, her body having to make-do with cybernetic replacements as she tries to piece her life back together in Claire's absence.
As far as Claire was concerned, leaving was the hardest thing she had ever had to do. Or at least, it was until she finds herself thrown into the shark-infested waters of Rena politics.
Claire left Earth only to find that keeping herself and her sister safe would be harder than she thought. But at least everyone back home is safe now that she's gone... Right?
Some say she's an ancient creature of nightmare that was unleashed from beneath the ocean, come to devour the souls of men. Others say that she's a cosmic being from the beyond the stars that has taken corporeal form to learn our ways for some unknown end...
In truth, L.C. Mawson lives in a tower in the middle of a haunted forest, far from civilisation and is definitely not a witch who curses those who trespass upon her land. And she definitely cannot turn into a dragon that flies over cities in the dead of night and whose cries are often mistaken for an approaching storm. Where did you hear that? That's absurd...
The only contact she has with humanity is publishing books every so often, which is definitely just for fun and not part of an ancient contract with a trickster god.
This is the fourth book in the Aspects series and follows on from the departure of Em (Empathy) and Claire (Love), to the Rena world with Jila. Em, the Aspect of Empathy, wants to live somewhere where her powers aren’t constantly overcoming her and she can actually have peace from everyone else’s feelings. Claire, the Aspect of Love, won’t leave her to go alone and has broken up with Hate.
Hate is struggling with the injuries from the last Rena attack and her break up with Claire. Loneliness is also suffering. They are both a bit of help to each other at this difficult time and trying to heal.
We learn a lot about the Rena home world and the new role of Claire and EM as Princesses, the only true descendants of Jila and the Royal family who used to rule. Bring on the interference of the High Priestess and her Priestesses with a different and suspicious agenda towards them and there is yet again danger all about.
Claire has to face possible marriage propositions and a wish to make her sister, Em, finally happy and to keep her safe. Not quite as easy as she thought. There is opposition to their presence here and not just from the temple of the High Priestess.
Claire makes a friend with one of her prospects, but his family are very closely involved with the previous attacks on the Aspects back on Earth. Can she actually trust anyone? Life on Rena is not turning out exactly as each Claire and Em thought. A difficult decision is coming. What will they do and what is happening to their friends back on Earth?
Another great book from the author and completely puts you back into the world of the Aspects and the battles they are constantly fighting. I certainly want to read more of this series and each of the other series by the author, from Freya Snow, The Enhanced and The Royal Cleaners. Lots of variety of characters to catch your teeth onto and enjoy some great reads. Looking forward to more.
I was lucky to receive an ARC copy of this book from the author and i have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
Claire has left the rest of the Aspects to live on the planet of the planet of the Rena with her sister Empathy. Her sister wanted to escape to a planet where her powers could be controlled so she could be herself. She also thought that her relationship with Hate was ruined and blamed herself for Hate's injuries. While on Rena, she gets roped into Rena politics and starts to regret her decisions.
When Hate wakes up, she is horrified to find out Claire has left. Now she has an injured leg and injured kidneys, so she has to learn simple skills such as walking again, by herself. The other Aspects are also struggling in the aftermath of the attack.
This book was one of the hardest to get through for me but it was also the one where I saw the most growth in the characters. I felt exactly how I was supposed to feel with Claire and Hate separated. With the two working together in the past 3 books, I felt that something was missing as they were separated. This truly allowed each person to blossom in my eyes.
My favorite part of this story was definitely seeing Empathy grow by getting the chance to be in one body at a time. I also liked seeing Claire and Empathy grow closer during their time on Rena.
I received this book for free and voluntarily reviewed.
OMG, OMG, OMG. L.C. Mawson is back with another novel in her Aspects series! Yes, I’m darned excited, because this series is just fab-u-lous and Stability/Conflict (Book 4) keeps up the quality. Look at the publisher’s blurb for a good summary on where we are (that gives nothing away). Fellow addicts, I can assure you that this is the book you neeeeed. Newcomers, welcome. Best advice for you is to go to book 1 as read the publisher’s blurb. If it sounds at all interesting to you then start there. I’m confident you’ll get addicted - and be drooling for this book by the time you get to it.
More happenings! The politics are becoming more intense, with serious loss on several sides. Claire is even more challenged than she had ever dreamed. Danger is ever present. Nothing is straightforward in these worlds because the past influences the present and how will that play out for the future? You’ll need a serious sitdown with a cuppa tea to find out!
Love and her sister have hard decisions to make. The arrival of loves ancestors clone is making all the others suspicious of her actions , and when all hell breaks loose love makes the ultimate sacrifice. This is a book that's hard to review without giving to much away in spoilers. This is an absolutely brilliant read and absolutely recommend it.
this was a wonderful book to read. I loved it so much. I highly recommend this book and author to everyone. I am looking forward to reading more by L.C. Mawson. I love books like this so much. this was a great series.
