So who am I? Well, I'm the crazy girl with an imagination that never shuts up. I LOVE scary movies. My friends laugh at me when I scare myself watching them and tell me to stop watching them, but who doesn't love to get scared? I grew up in a small town nestled in the southern mountains of West Virginia where I spent days roaming around in the woods, climbing trees, and causing general mayhem. Nights I would stay up reading Nancy Drew by flashlight under the covers until my parents yelled at me to go to sleep.
Growing up in a small town, I learned a lot of values and morals, I also learned parents have spies everywhere and there's always someone to tell your mama on you. So when you get grounded, what is there left to do? Read! My Aunt Jo gave me my first real romance novel. It was a romance titled "Lord Margrave's Deception." I remember it fondly. But I also learned I had a deep and abiding love of mysteries and anything paranormal. As I grew up, I started to write just that and would entertain my friends with stories featuring them as main characters.
Now, I live Huntersville, NC where I entertain my family and watch the cats get teased by the birds and laugh myself silly when they swoop down and then dive back up just out of reach. The cats start yelling something fierce...lol.
I love books, I love writing books, and I love entertaining people with my silly stories.
hmm I have a thing for Nikoli therefor I just have to read everything about the Kincaid brothers but I really wonder when we came from college story to mafia fbi and all bad things included story.
As I am a huge fan of mafia related books I am not going to complain but sometimes the story feels kind of forced.
Wow, what an action packed read!! To be known as a Kincaid can be a curse and put your life in danger but the Kincaid men make sure to protect their woman at any cost. They way they love and cherish their woman had me swooning!!
Angel and Kade's hell seems to have returned and I didn't know if they were going to make it through this time. Their story captivated me right from the beginning and I felt like I was on a rollercoaster. This was action packed and had so many aha moments not knowing how it would end. And that ending left me needing more. Kara~5 Stars
Kade is the first book in Apryl Baker’s Kincaid Security & Investigations series, although it does build heavily upon another of the author’s work. The Sinners Touch is the second book in the author’s Manwhore series, where you will be introduced to characters within Kade. Although The Sinners Touch is optional, I do wish I had read it first – I was lost for most of this book, and I feel as though reading The Sinners Touch would have helped me.
In truth, this was an interesting book. There was a lot going on, certainly enough to keep you intrigued by what is to come next. However, I was never really sucked into the story. I think this is because I never felt the connections to the characters I had hoped. I believe this is because I went in not knowing them – those who have read The Sinners Touch will know the characters well, and will fall straight into their lives. As it was, I was rolling around in history and connections I didn’t quite understand.
I do plan to give The Sinners Touch a read now, though. I may not have been blown away by Kade, but I could see where I would have enjoyed this one more if I understood it a bit better. Of course, I now wish to go and read The Sinners Touch so that an understanding appears. Who knows, when I’ve read The Sinners Touch, I could end up adoring the Kincaid Security & Investigations series.
Overall, this was enjoyable enough, but I think it is better enjoyed if you already know the characters from the author’s other work.
Dang this book was good. I really wanted to use another word there in place of dang but I'm trying to keep this review appropriate. But just know I was thinking the other word as I finished this book and was just in awe of how amazing it was.
I was first introduced to Kade and Angel in The Sinner's Touch which is book two of the A Manwhore Series. I began my love of these two as well as Kade's whole family with that series. It was where my interest in Apryl Baker was sparked. When I heard this series was a spinoff I immediately jumped at the chance to read it. But this book was above and beyond expectations.
This book had action, suspense, death, reunions, a whole lot of love and some great characters. This book definitely has some dark elements and is not for someone looking for a nice and easy read. But for those who like some dark in their romance, this is definitely one I would recommend. I am looking forward to the next book with much excitement and have a whole new reason to be happy about Spring 2018.
YOU HAVE TO READ The Sinners Touch before reading this book! It is book 2 in the manwh0®€ series and its Kade and Angel's beginning. This is technically the second part of that book. I highly recommend reading the complete Manwh0®€ series (3 books) prior to starting the KSI series. The first three books are Nikoli, Kade & Demetri's stories and the KSI series are the rest of the brothers books. Each book has one brother finding hea with continued storyline crossovers. Kade was a tough read for me as it deals with the loss of a child. I had to stop periodically but in the end it was a good read and I can't wait to read how little Mateo/Matthew turns out! Like the other books this book deals with physical abuse attempted rape, drug cartels as well as strong family ties, brotherhood, friends, love wrapped into a compelling storyline. This is a new to me author but I'll definitely be following her from now on!✌
I loved that it wasn't all about sex! You had action and plenty of it. I really want to read Dinners book.this book had me drawn in from the beginning. I would like to see more of how Matthew adapts.
I liked the concept and the potential that this had but I could not finish it. The main thread of the story was a little far fetched and there was a couple of scenes that I read that felt forced and unneeded. I love the author and have read many of her books but unfortunately this isn’t for me
The conclusion of Kade and Angel. Finally finding and recovering from the loss of their son- by taking him away from his cartel captors.
This story is full of intense action, it would be a great movie.
Getting to meet Connor was even better even though he is definitely the darkest of the kincaid brothers. His story will be epic when it's released in 2019.
I love how this book mentions each of the family members- it goes to show how important and close this family is, even with the geographical distance.
This story get 4.5 stars for me- for me I wanted more of the reunion of their son and more of how he heals. Even if it's just a private day that doesnt include any other brother. Maybe a sunday brunch or something, or a phone call with someone.
This story was darker for Kade- but as a mom I understand that no one gets in the way of his family and certainly doesnt take them and harm them. All mama bear on them.
This couple has been through so much. There peace of mind and care is more deserving then any of the couples before them. Yes Lily and Becca had psycho's to battle but they never had to battle multiple ones on multiple occations.
I hope Kade, Angel, Mateo, and baby get a break now. That Angel gets her bar and it's successful. That she gets to enjoy being a mom and wife and that Kade gets to bask in fatherhood and being a husband.
I also want to see Kade's parents and his grandmother show up- this was missing from this story. I hope Kade's dad is going to recover and quick from what ever is ailing him.
This book was great. Mystery, danger, intrigue, passion, love, family.
Well I'm off to Viktor's story and counting down the days til Connor's story is released in 2019.
P.s. I think we need a time line with each brother, their age, and their spouse with their age, plus kids. A family tree of sorts.
Kade Kincaid, an ex FBI agent, is reintroduced with people from his past that wants him dead. If they can’t get to him they will start with anyone he loves. Angel is Kade’s wife, an exotic dancer with knowledge of the Miami cartel. The whole Kincaid family is a close knit and will do anything for each other, so watch out if you dare to hurt them.
This book is very fast paced and well written. The characters are well thought out and have enough complexity that you can forget that they are fictional. There is just enough sex, action and suspense that you do not want to stop reading.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I wish I had read the series that this spun off of first because I feel like from the beginning we were supposed to already know these characters and their background but in the blurb, there is no indication that we should have read the Manwhore series first. This seriously diminished my enjoyment of the book. It read like I picked up a book in the middle of a series even though this was book 1. I think the story is solid and well-paced but I could not get past the feeling that I was missing information that the author assumed I had.
Absolutely loved this book and would thoroughly recommend it and hope that others enjoy it as much as I did. Imagine what you would do if you discovered that the son you had been told had died at birth had been taken and raised by the Cartel. Such is the plight of Angel and Kade, when she sees a young boy nearly get run down by a vehicle she can't understand why she feels such a connection. What happens when her husband investigates will thrill readers.
*No Spoilers* Apryl is one of my favorite authors and this is one of my favorite series. I challenge you to try to find a Kincaid brother you don't absolutely love. While rough on the outside...the inside is all about their women/significant others. This book we get introduced to some new characters I can't wait to learn about in depth! I couldn't stop inhaling this book!
I tried to ignore the TSTL, I really did. But EVERYONE, ALL THE TIME!
Again with the ex special forces/ security specialists who couldn’t find their way out of a burning paper bag. You can almost ignore the fact that knowing how bad the bad guy is, they let her out with only one guard the very next day. (She got nasty pictures to her brand new purchase property while she was in the building).
So, being ex military with an overprotective nature and the owners of a security company (this shit is their business), do they amp up security? Well, kinda, a little bit, but then they all walk away for a chitchat about how bad and determined and dangerous the bad guy is, and leave one guard on her in a public hospital. They don’t even think twice when they get a txt that she’s going to be moving through the hospital for scans… with one f’ing guard. (Her nurse is executed and she’s almost taken). Lesson learnt? Nah.
I’ll bitch about all the other stuff that’s wrong later, but let’s stick with military/security protecting the one true women who they are all supa worried about and determined to not let anything bad happen to her (again, again, again). They fly her newly found pregnant, concussed self directly into the bad guys territory, and head for the police station to get protective custody… it’s not like those cops exist or are mobile before the dumbasses get themselves to the station and put coins in the vending machine. So instead of having the cops meet and escort them from the airport, they have a high speed gun fight through the city streets (and let’s not forget the military/security specialist not knowing that tech exists where the bad guys can overhear what dumbasses are saying). Anyway, eventually they need a nap, so they head to the hotel and not only walk out onto the balcony, but have sex and sleep out there too. Cause it’s not like they should worry about the bad guy any. But guess what, dumbass central again leaves the special snowflake with one fucking guard while they chinwag about the evil determined bad guy and how dangerous he is. And yes, she’s kidnapped successfully this time, after she opens the door with no thought to safety, because the dumbasses that have failed to protect her so far are on the case.
I could go on with the above and even more, but let’s just do a quick rundown of some of the other dumb shit.
Pregnant, concussed, target of the bad guy with no defence background insists on getting closer to the badguy instead of staying out of the way and letting the trained *dumbasses* be dumbasses alone.
After finding out that their miscarried baby is alive and in the badguys care for the last six years, let’s talk about sex, our sex, your sex, their sex, who cares. They show no care or concern for this kid outside of the lines that say they are showing care and concern, before they get back to talking or thinking about other things, probably about sex.
Oh, just had you nurse executed in front of you, and almost kidnapped while finding out you long dead baby is being raise as an assassin? Bow-chica-wow-wow… let’s talk about sex!
Kade by Apryl Barker “A killer start to a new series, 5 stars”
So, I am one of those that first met Kade and Angel in The Sinners Touch, I fell in love with them then and I fell in love with them now. You don’t have to read The Sinners Touch to really get a feel for these two but I know I enjoyed it. Kade held mystery, suspense, and a whole lot of love. I cannot wait to see where the rest of the Kincaid Security and Investigation series will go. Kade and Angel finally got their happily ever after. It took a long time to get over old hurts and accepting the present. These two are happy and in love with each other for the second time. Then one day everything kind of flips upside down. Kade once worked for the FBI and took down bad guys. One of those bad guys still wants to mark him off the list of living. Leaving Kade to feel protective of those close to him and causing a whole lot of upheaval. At the same time Angel runs into a ghost from the past. Or what could be a ghost from the past. One of the guys from Kincaid Security decides to investigate the ghost only to find out the ghost is very much alive. So, we have a group wanting to kill one and trying to bring someone else into the fold, will it work or will time and circumstances be against all of them at Kincaid security? I personally loved Kade’s brothers and men who worked for them. They made the story well rounded. I know once you fall into this series you’ll be begging for the next book. Happy one-clicking! A great continuation of Kade and Angel's story. Lots of danger and emotion. Well edited.
Kade and Angel are now in New York, setting up businesses and enjoying being close to family. Out shopping, Angel sees a little boy across the street nearly stepping out into oncoming traffic. She races to stop a tragedy, and comes face to face with a child who looks just like Kade and who stares back with her own eyes. It isn't possible. It just isn't. Right? Thus begins a headlong rush to establish the identity of the child. Kade wants to find the truth so that he can reassure Angel that she saw someone else's child. But when the truth isn't what Kade expected, and Angel is threatened, Kade moves to protect what's his. Old enemies resurface. Old allies rally. And the talents of the family are put to their best use. Because in the Kincaid family, a threat to one is a threat to all.
As always, the close ties of the Kincaid brothers is wonderful to read. And, as this one happens concurrently with Viktor's, we see that the brothers are able to handle more than one crisis at a time. I did feel it wrapped up a little abruptly. What happened to Juan Ramirez? Will that be addressed in Conner's story? And what about little Mateo? His transition from Cartel life to Kincaid life is going to require lots of therapy and care. Hopefully, we will see progress through the remaining brother's stories. Enjoy!
Kade by Apryl Baker. This is a first time read for me by author Apryl Baker. The book Kade flowed so effortlessly, I found myself completely mesmerized by each and every page. The Story of Kade and Angel Kincade. Gut-wrenching, soul-searing grief has haunted Angel Kincaid for seven years, since she suffered a miscarriage. Just when she starts to think she’s come to terms with it, everything she thought she knew is cast into doubt when she comes face to face with a little boy, and every instinct tells her the child belongs to her that he is her son. With the help of the men of Kincaid Security & Investigations, a deadly game of cat and mouse begins to prevent the cartel from turning an innocent child into a soulless killer. This book was everything it intended to be without apology: a love story that is as simple as it is complicated, with my heart practically bursting from every emotion I endured.

I will say that it took me a minute to really get into this book and its storyline but then out of the blue, the plot twist is thrown in and holy moly...I could not put this book down until the very last page!!
Kade and Angel...they have been through hell and back as a couple and another hell has just been dropped at their doorstep. Angel has deeply mourned the child she lost early on in her pregnancy so when she comes face to face with a little boy her body screams is hers, she is beside herself.
Kade an ex-FBI agent, has come into contact with some dangerous people during his career but nothing could prepare him for the shocking and devastating news that he is now facing. Could the evil cartel have actually taken their young son they thought was dead and be raising him?
This book definitely did not disappoint in angst and action. I was literally on the edge of my seat waiting to see if this little boy who was raised with evil and dangerous men was in fact Angel and Kade's son. I loved all the alpha men on Kade's team and need to read more about them! Please give each of them their own story!
Kade by Apryl Barker is a fantastic follow up to The Sinners Touch which is where we first met Kade and Angel. I fell in love with them then and I definitely fell in love with them now. You don’t have to read The Sinners Touch to really get a feel for these two but if you want to get their backstory then I would recommend reading The Sinners Touch 1st. This continues the story of Kade and Angel as they try to put the past behind them and as they are trying to build something better in New York. It seems the past isn’t done with them and it catches up with them with a vengeance. When that happens, the entire Kincaid family is threatened and at risk. There are several twists that I didn’t expect and it had me enthralled to the very end. It was a captivating story that kept me reading until the very last word. This book was a suspenseful, intriguing, exciting, passionate, action packed and love filled. Kade and Angel are one of my favorite couples in the Kincaid family and I am excited to finally get their conclusion. I personally adored Kade’s brothers and the men who worked for them. They made the story exciting and thrilling. What I can say is this book has a lot of action, suspense, death, reunions, a whole lot of love and some great characters. As for the tone, the book definitely has some dark tones and is not for someone looking for a easy read. I loved this story and how everything happened. I can’t go into details because I do not want to give any spoilers away but I am looking forward to the next book since this was so incredibly fantastic!!!
My Rating: 4.6 stars ***** “I received an advanced copy of this book from the author at no cost to me."
The drama is super high in this one. There are reveals, new characters, intense confrontations, difficult situations that aren't for the faint of heart, and violence galore. On the other hand, there are moments of tenderness and closeness, "come to Jesus" moments regarding complete honesty, incredible amounts of love, and fierce expressions of protection. Certainly no skimping on the roller coaster that drives Angel and Kade's life. I'm hoping things slow down for them sometime soon because their growing family is going to need some peace for healing.
I really enjoyed this story. It was intense, dark, and yet so very hopeful. There was a lot going on in this short book and I look forward to seeing their family in the periphery of the series. Each of the characters introduced here has a darkness in them as well as a deep need to protect. With the security and investigations firm they're running each of these men will have the chance to both protect and find the partners meant for them, meant to bring light and healing into their lives.
Angel Kincaid thinks she’s finally getting over the miscarriage she had six years ago. She’s out when she sees a boy about to step into the road and she rushes and pulls him back. He looks exactly what she thought her son would look like. He has his father’s looks and her eyes. When she tells her husband he is upset. Angel lost the baby while Kade was undercover with the cartel. Now Kade and his brother own Kincaids Security and Investigations. He finds out a cartel has a bounty on his head and he receives a note saying they have his son. They fly to Florida and after being there for a few days, Angel is taken, her bodyguard shot and no sign of her. Kade just got his wife back and he finds out his son is alive, absolutely nothing will keep him from them. First time reading this author and I loved it. The only thing I didn’t like was feeling confused. It was like I started in the middle of. I don’t think there is a book about Kade and Angel when they first met. There should be. There is action. Angst. Steamy. Can’t wait to read the next one.
First book I’ve read by this author and though I did enjoy it, I felt like I was missing a lot of backstory on the characters and it seemed like I was stepping into the middle of a story. It held my interest and I had no problem keeping up with the plot but references kept being made to previous circumstances and I kept wondering what I missed along the way. From taking a look at the author’s other books, I realized that I should have started with Baker’s Manwhore series first – where the characters from this series meet and their stories actually begin. So, before I continue on with Kincaid Security, I will venture to those books instead. *It would have been nice to have a note included in the blurb saying to start there for the character introductions. But, aside from that misstep, I did enjoy the book. Engaging, suspenseful, and intense, with strong characters, action, drama, danger, humor, steamy bits, and a few dark scenes/references. Will definitely be reading more.
Kade and Angel Kincaid had overcome so much in order to be together and just when it seems like everything is finally going right for them,Angel meets a little boy, who triggers all her maternal instincts. Angel’s mind knows that there’s no way that this could be her child but, her heart is saying something different. When Kade looks into the boy just to ease Angel’s mind, he discovers the shocking truth. Will they be able to rescue their son from the hands of vengeful madman. I’m going to honesty, I was really on the fence about this book Kade and Angel’s first book wasn’t one of my favorites in the manwhore series but, I was totally blown away by this book. I felt like we really got to know Kade and Angel,to really understand just how much they have overcome to be together. I’m absolutely in love with all the Kincaid boys, each one has his own distinct personality. I don’t give 5 stars rating because a book has really impress me to get that and this book totally did, it’s my favorite book of 2018 so far.
Wow, this is a fantastic book. I have read a few of the other KSI books, but didn't get around to Kade and Angel's storyline until now.
It shows how much Kade and all the Kincaid men love and will protect their women from everything.
I have yet to go back and read the beginning of Kade and Angel, but this story has so much depth, action, and of course the love they have for each other. Even through the gut-renching death of their little boy.
Angel has not fully recovered and still has PTSD from a kidnapping, but is trying to move on with her life. While out shopping for Kade's birthday she sees a little boy that is the spitting image of her husband or his brothers.
As other reviews have stated I should have read the Manwhore series first to get the entire backstory of Kade and Angel so now I am onto them.
Kade and Angel Kincaid have been through hell and back over the past 7 years since they were married and finally reconciled after a near miss with a serial killer that had Angel in his sights. The young couple have started to move on from their tragic past and are even planning on possibly starting a family again, though their pain is still raw from the miscarriage of their first child, Matthew. A fateful encounter between Angel and a neglectful father on the streets of New York City sends the couple down a twisted path of lies, deceit, and murder as they try to get to the truth of what happened to their firstborn son and the murderous cartel that took him from them as revenge. This book will keep you on the edge of your seat, a real page turner!
DNF @ 62%. Normally, I would finish one if I was this far but became very frustrated. I cannot believe the author did not state at the beginning of the book there was another series you should read first. I only found that through looking at reviews for this book when I kept feeling like I was missing so many things. There was no catch up on history and everything was just skimmed over, I mean major things like serial killers and cartels. It was too much for me to get over. I really wanted to like this but it was very frustrating. The writing was OK except the fact that so much for skimmed over and not mentioned it was from previous books.
Better read if you’ve read the manwhore series first. What I loved was that the story started right smack in the present, having read the manwhore series I was up to speed with the background. Facts that needed to be told were told naturally and smoothly without flashbacks being needed. The amazing bond between the brothers seemed so natural it was perfect, I loved the bonds the banter and the connections. All having alpha tendency this could have been an issue however I found they blended perfectly. So much of love poured out of the pages within the element of danger always present. Brilliantly written.
