As much as have enjoyed Emily Tilton's Institute series, I expected to enjoy this one. However, this one was a bit harder for me to get into, although it definitely started off very well. Possibly because it also includes excerpts of Dr. Brown's "teachings" that take a little time to decipher? Some of the scenes were very hot but I guess I wanted something similar to the Institute series even if it was in the historical setting.

I found this to be a difficult book to follow as it switches between Dr. Reginald Brown’s teachings of a natural man and the physical action of Joe Smithers. I have liked the other books in this series but this one just was not one I could get into.I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. I would give this 2 1/2 stars but there is no half star.

This book is a change from the previous books by this author that I have read as it is set in the old west. Alice manages to escape from the indians who attacked the wagon train and is forced to find shelter in Brownsville, where men follow the practise of "natural men" in that they spend in a woman's mouth or anus as opposed to her vagina and loan them to each other as needed. They also advocate the use of whipping, spanking and canning as punishment when their woman are needed to correct or train their woman. For this reason I admit I did not enjoy this book. As in the previous books by this author where punishment was handed out, I felt that the Alice was given no choice and had no protection and although the woman professed to enjoy the correction "at times", it was too harsh. Naturally this book is rate 18 plus.

I have been on the fence about Emily Tilton's books and this one just tipped me over the edge to explore other authors. In all her books, but in this series especially, there is too much internal dialogue and not really enough interaction and actual dialogue between the characters.
It's hard to follow at times, and we get so much of the Dr. Brown rhetoric in every book that it starts to feel like I'm reading a badly written BDSM manual on repeat instead of a BDSM erotic novel.
It's also hard to follow the 25 characters that are constantly being referred to by full name, full name with miss or mister, just last name, and just first name that the author often mixes up the character's first and last names with other characters. We get that you wanted to go for Victorian bsdm meets Miss Jane Austen (or Jane or Miss Austen or Miss Jane) but there are so many characters and it's overkill.

When Alice's escape from harm leads her to Brownsville, she realizes very fast that things are different in this little town. The way of life there is called 'natural men' which means that woman will be trained to be the perfect wife for the man who chooses her. Will Alice be the woman for Joe?
I liked Alice and Joe's characters. Naturally, there are plenty of spankings, sometimes very harsh, but also very erotic. The intimate scenes are explicit and hot. I enjoyed reading the book.

2 1/2 ⭐️⭐️‘s
I’ve read other books by Emily Tilton, and this is simply not her best. Jumping back and forth between Joe and Alice’s POV and the teachings of the dubious Dr. Reginald Brown’s natural man theories was annoying. I enjoy BDSM books, spanking, etc. but, dubious consent can be off putting. Just not her best work. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Kept for Training, moves back in time to the Victorian age. Alice 18, and heading west with a wagon train. They are attacked and she escapes and finds her way to Brownsville, a town found on the teaching of a Dr Brown. Who's book teaches the D/s way of life. Alice has a liking for Rancher Joe. Joe has to prove he is able to handle Alice. A Good story, A D/s Victorian, Western.

This story is very difficult for me to review because I am a bit torn. I normally like Emily Tiltons stories and her writing style, but this was not at her best.
Somethings annoyed me. The doctors theories, the "training", jumps in the story and the characters behavior at times.
But I like the chemistry and hot scenes.
Read it and make your own opinion of it.

Its very spicy, some of the books in this series are good but I thought this one was way over the top with butt play/anal sex. I wish it was a bit more natural love story/romantic but its more erotic with "let's see how fast we can take her anus' ( the book's very descriptive and not shy at all ) despite her being a virgin. I found myself cringing a lot for this one.

This is a little difficult to follow, switching from doctrine to action. It is a good story with lots of sex, hot scenes and spankings. Brownville is an interesting place that Ms. Tilton has created. Overall it is a hot little story.

One of the worst books by this author I have ever read. The whole town acts like a brainwashed cult that are allowed to fuck any woman they want and the women cant say no. The teachings of the town's founder sounds like a pedophiles playbook. The story keeps going back and forth in the past and present and was hard to follow along, I actually skipped large sections just to get back to the present story. It didn't even get kinky until chapter 7. I also have no time for weak, brainless women who do nothing to get away from a cult bent on brainwashing her into becoming a sex slave.

Alice, a teenager, parents died and she loves in an orphanage before being given to Me Gantner and her husband. The three of them will join a wagon train to Oregon but in route the wagons are attacked baLlots Sioux warriors, the men killed, and the women taken prisoners except for Alice. She wanders the Nebraska prairie in a blizzard until she finds the village of Brownsville. Joe has a cabin in the outskirts of the village. She pounds on his door and interrupts his a nap sex with another young lady. She is restrained on his bed and watched as he finishes his anal intercourse. The next morning Joe fetches one of the town fathers who explains the village's history and meaning of natural men and then had the two girls sexually pleasure each other. Alice grew up being modest and has strong feelings of shame hearing talk of sexual behavior, spankings, being nude and on display. She leaves Joe's cabin to move to the training school but is grossly botched for disrespect and then runs away. She is the captured by the Sioux and find Ma Gantner alive and the medicine man's sexual slave. Joe arrives at the Sioux village to bring her home. She is in love with him and wanting to have sex which takes place in a village town meeting after Joe becomes her right of phallus.

"I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book." Unorthodox book but great just the same. She ran from what she didn't understand twice but it all fell into place just the same.
