Will the knowledge really help? We see a sad goodbye, and then a report to Samuel. I am waiting to see the next chain of events. Enjoy !
I really liked this installment to the Family Secrets series. I still love Dean and Mikael and the adventure they went on but....
There were a few editing mix-ups and it ended with not so much a cliffhanger as a "to be continued". A tiny bit frustrating but I'm looking forward to the next book!
Honestly, there hasn’t been a book in “The Family Secrets” by Noah Harris that hasn’t been incredible and Book 6, “A Wolf’s Promise” is another great hit for me. I know I’ve said this before in my review, but if you haven’t been reading this series I highly suggest you start.
Noah Harris has a great knack at writing not only, according to me, one of the best wolf-shifter paranormal books out, but one with the mysteries of shamans, evil crystals that can destroy mankind and Dean, the newly uncovered druid with still unknown powers. There’s so much imagination and creativity put into the scenes and the dialogue of every character.
As from Book 5 the same groups of wolf-shifters along with the newbie teenage shaman are going off for another dangerous adventure to Central American’s jungle to discover how they might find the missing tube that contains this evil crystal. Everyone agrees even Samuel after a while, that the crystal needs to be found and destroyed, but first they have to find it and no one knows where to begin the search. It’s in Damien’s notebook he kept that was his shaman’s that mentioned Central America.
In the meantime since Dean’s frightening experience under the mountain and him killing three people, he has been having more terrifying nightmares that he’s kept to himself. Even during the day his mind drifts off remembering Damien’s terrified face when Dean stabbed the knife in him before he dropped into the bottomless pit and the massive blood that killing Scar had left haunts him. Anyone that has been around Dean knows he looks terrible and is not dealing with the past tragic events and Dean doesn’t even confide with his mate, Mikael. Though Mikael knows Dean is dealing with this he has not pushed his mate to talk to him about it.
In this book we also get to hear more about the teenage Shaman, Silun. He’s become good friends with Dean and Dante of all people. Lucille also wakes up in this book and is what starts Dean in needing to find that remaining crystal, though Mikael doesn’t want his mate to be the one to search to it, it’s too dangerous, but he’s 100% beside Dean in the mission. So, Mikael, Dean, Kat, Apollo, Dante and Silun fly to Central American’s jungle to search for what is written in Damien’s notebook.
Once in the jungle, Dean realizes he cannot open up to hear the jungle like he could the forest back home; it’s too chaotic and overpowers his senses. But with Dante and Apollo leading the group they begin to find the landmarks described. After their first night, the group begins to wander from each other as they get further into the jungle.
Silun sees the first sight of spirits and wanders off talking to them with Kat chasing after him, Apollo and Dante are up ahead leading the group talking with one another and Dean halts with Mikael when the energy changes in the jungle and a strong torrential rainstorm comes on suddenly and they get separated, but as least they were hopefully in pairs.
Mikael and Dean find shelter in a cave for the night, of course being alone there’s always hot sex involved and the next morning as they search for their friends, they are attacked by natives and captured. I don’t want to go into the whole of what they went through in captivity, but it’s from this point on that we learn more about the power of the crystal and it’s danger and myths that surrounds it.
I love Mikael and Dean’s relationship and being mating only makes their sex hotter and more explosive, even when in danger. I know Dean drives his mate insane with taking so many risks and I really can’t blame Mikael for being mad. It’s strange because I don’t hate Dean for doing what he feels is best for all; it’s just sometimes I swear he just doesn’t get the mating bond and how intense it must be for Mikael.
Noah leaves us with a beautiful ending and with a definite book to follow this one. Someone has to go after the last evil crystal in the tube and destroy it. I’m sure it’ll be Dean that Samuel will ask to go. I highly recommend reading this series it’s phenomenal. Summary:
Dean may have survived the fight, but dealing with the emotional trauma can be worse then physical damage. Dean saved Silun from being imprisoned by a mad man and the two have formed a bond that helped them survive what they endured. It helps that Silun's abilities as a Shaman gives him a better understanding of Dean's Druid abilities. Dean's lover Mikeal may be in training to be the next pack alpha it leaves him floundering in how to keep Dean safe while letting him do what he needs to do. There are many aspects of Dean's Druid abilities that defy rational understanding, but Michael stands by his man at all times. When Dean announces a new mission, the pack follows him in spite of their reservations. Including Silun who is determined to prove himself. The task isn't without danger, but what they find defies anything the expected.
This is a fast paced complex story entwined with enough magic, mystery, and love to satisfy anyone. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
✈More troubled times for Dean and The Grove; will a trip south bring the solution to their problems? ByAvid Readeron February 24, 2018 Format: Kindle Edition A well-written and suspenseful further continuation of farmer Dean and shifter Mikael's story, this volume reminded me a bit of Tolkien's Fellowship of the Ring, with a small group of specially chosen reps of The Grove heading off, with the help of a diary and a crude map, to tropical climes. Their journey through strange lands results in separation, danger and discovery of a closely guarded secret that, wielded in the wrong hands, could destroy their world.
Dean has become the clear hero of this series where I thought Mikael was more of an equal MC in the earlier books. The pair's passionate relationship, while still present in some steamy scenes, has also taken second place to Dean's growing Druidic powers and the peril his powers have attracted. A good amount of the story is devoted to explaining the mystical dangers they confront, theories of their origin and how they work and can be manipulated. Sometimes the theorizing got a bit much for me and I wished Mikael's and Dean's growth as a couple and the personal lives of their fellow travelers would have had more play.
And, in my opinion, Dean has transformed drastically from the early books; he never seems to get much of a break from the danger and drama he was pulled into through Mikael and his shifter community! Poor Mr. Williams, his long-suffering neighbor, might as well move to Dean's farm since he seems to spend more time managing Dean's farm than Dean and Mikael!
All in all, I would characterize this story more a fantasy adventure with romantic elements than a full-blown romance novel.
I received a complimentary advance copy of this book from the author; this is my voluntary and honest review.
The jungle just got even hotter! I didn’t think this series could get any better. Book 5 was fantastic...book 6, ‘A Wolf’s Promise’ is awesome, it’s even deeper and more exciting with breathtaking scenery and action throughout. It’s another amazing ‘road trip’, this time to the Central American jungle and Noah draws very successfully on Mayan culture to add depth and local colour to the story. Dean and Mikael team up with the young shaman Silun and pack members Katarina, Apollo and Dante to find answers following the destruction of the mountain caves and the death of Damian, but Dean is still struggling to cope with what happened and the others are starting to notice that he's not himself. Can he shake himself free of his troubles? Will he get the answers he and his pack so desperately need? We get to understand more about druids and shamans and find out the history behind the events of book 5, what the crystal really is and how Nox and subsequently Damian came by it. All this against a background of the enduring love between Mikael and Dean and of course the heat of their relationship! This book cannot be read as a stand-alone as it explains a lot from previous books but I highly recommend the entire series. Again Noah ties up the immediate plot and gives us a HFN but leaves enough unanswered questions to lead nicely into a book 7. Yes! Note I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
Peace has finally come to Dean's farm and the Grove. The war is over, but in Dean's heart or soul. Feeling responsible for all that happened in the mountains and the death of his fellow Druids, he keeps it locked inside him. PTSD racks his mind and he is not himself. Mikael tries to help, but Dean is closed off to everyone who tries to get him to talk. A light appears in Mikael's life as his sister comes out of her coma. Now they try to figure out what is in the tube and as the knowledge comes to light, Dean feels that there is no solution but to try to find out where the other tubes may have gone. The clan sends off three of their enforcers with Dean and Mikael to South America. Mikael takes a lesser role in this story as Dean develops more of his Druid powers coming to the forefront as the MC. Silun as a healer and shaman also continues to develop as their journey takes them deep in the jungle. I miss Mikael in this story and feel he could easily carry a bigger role. A tense story full of emotional, psychological and spiritual growth and a set up for possibly more in this series. I voluntarily read and reviewed this ARC book.
This is a suspenseful, intriguing book to read and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. What you will find in this wonderful book is: shamans, druids, werewolves, drama, suspense, intrigue, mystery, adventure, magic, friends, mates, evil crystals, a journey, enemies, memories, emotional trauma, love and erotic scenes. The story-line and plot is well thought out and written and keeps the reader’s attention. The characters are well developed with personalities and moods suited to the situations they find themselves in. This is a well written MM Gay Shifter Romance with a HFN and I would recommend this book.
Not sure I liked this book as much as the previous ones in the series as the booked lacked a meaningful relationship and character development. The purpose of the book seemed to be to tie some loose ends from book 5 and to set up the series for book 7. But in the process Noah Harris missed a wonderful opportunity to explore the obvious question of how Mikel is growing into his responsibilites as the alpha heir and how Dean will cope with the role of an alpha bitch. Because as it stands Dean is the stronger of the two characters. I also have a niggling suspicion that when Silun returns from the jungle, we may have a nice love triangle.
As this series deepens its plot by adding more layers to the overall story I am finding myself reading into every detail and interaction with a sense that everything means exactly what it says and then also means the complete opposite.
Noah continues to weave a story of intrigue, suspense and spicy. Much like the last few titles in this story the spice comes slowly and then hits you hard, in a good way.
It’s sad knowing we’re only 2 books away from the series being complete. Can’t imagine the twists in store.
Dean and Mikael's story just gets better and better with each book in this series. Trouble always seems to find them which sets them on great adventures. This time it's off to the jungles of South America with some friends to find answers involving the missing crystal. I love how Mikael and Dean stand strong together throughout the series. Can't wait to see what's up next for them. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
OMG! This was the best that I've read from Noah Harris
I feel in love with this series from the beginning, but this book totally blew everything before it out of the water. We learned so much about the crystal that Damian used against the shamans and about why Dean had manifested as one of the Children of the Sun. After the heartache and the pain of the last book, this one provides hope, purpose, and the beginnings of power to the people of the Grove.
Dean is not dealing well with the emotional upheaval from being kidnapped and the escape. Mikael wants to help but Dean is holding everything in. Dean is also ready to take on the next problem, not wanting to leave anything to chance. This adventure is finished but another one around the corner. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of his book.
WOW, this was absolutely wonderful! I absolutely loved it, there is lot's of drama, excitement, fun, mysteries and beautiful love stories. Definitely a must read, many thanks, Honey Bee 🐝📚💙🎶. PS: Love this Author, Noah Harris, this series is memorable! 🎶
The more Dean tries to relax and just enjoy his time with Mikael the more things happen in the Grove. I do hope that Silun goes back to the Grove with lots of knowledge to help them out. Maybe gets with the Learner. Hmmm he could be the first for a MMF, interesting.
Such a great book and a superb series. I've loved every book. This has been a great addition to my kindle library. I've enjoyed all the character growths and how the series keeps you guessing. Plenty of witty sass and hot sex mixed in.
Can a series get any better than this one ? That would be a yes and no answer . No because it's already a really good series and then yes because Mikael and Dean's story isn't finished yet . I eagerly head now to the next book in this series .
this series just gets better and better.. this was amazing.. it was beautifully written and the characters are hott.. i loved it so much and im glad i read it
Seems like the trouble that always finds Dean helps in their quest. Lots of ups and down. But so much mate love to be had. Can't wait until the next book.
