The O'Malleys #6

The Bastard's Bargain

Rate this book
"The Bastard's Bargain is deliciously gritty, darkly romantic, drop-dead sexy and thoroughly engrossing." --USA Today, Happy Ever After
Married to the enemy When Keira O'Malley was a child, she used to picture her perfect wedding. The flowers. The dress. Her husband. But nothing could have prepared her for saying "I do" to Dmitri Romanov-cold, domineering, and always one step ahead of everyone else in the ever-shifting power plays of New York City. She agreed to his bargain to secure peace for her family, and she may want the bastard more than she'd ever admit, but she'll be damned if she'll make this marriage easy for him.
Dmitri knows better than to underestimate Keira for one second. Molten desire smolders between them, a dangerous addiction neither can resist. But his enemies are already on the move, and he needs every ounce of his legendary focus and control to keep them alive. Keira could just be his secret weapon-if she doesn't bring him to his knees first.
"A tension-filled plot full of deceit, betrayal, and sizzling love scenes will make it impossible for readers to set the book down." --Publishers Weekly on Forbidden Promises

Years ago I found The Marriage Contract and experienced the sense of Katee Roberts putting herself out there in a different way than she had in the past. She had a solid following from all of her previous books and I had enjoyed them, too. But with this new endeavor, Roberts approached a bigger story... one with multiple Boston Crime Families, their politics and fights for dominance... and the men and women in those families.

Working with those elements can be tricky... juggling all of the players, keeping everything clear, and making them somehow relatable. They became worth our time and we rooted for them. Roberts managed that and more...With each release, the interest grew, the romance and swoon level rose and the intrigue kept us on the edge of our seats.

What worked so well were the backstories and secondary characters which populated these books and with the use of the character Demtri Romanov as another threat to the O'Malleys... something special happened...He became a force of his own... he would grace the story, interacting with the youngest daughter, Keira. Every time they crossed paths, we were struck... the chemistry, raw attraction, and way Demtri was able to push all of Keira's buttons...These moments were something we would look forward to... and finally after much anticipation, we have their story.

Keira O'Malley is broken. She has had a life without control. Even as a little girl, with rare moments of normalcy, everything was dictated... pronounced... She will do this, She will be that ... and only when she was away from her abusive and ruthless father and manipulative mother did she feel like she could breathe.

It was her brother Devlin who gave her glimmers of hope. He had gone off to college and was looking to do things outside of the family business. He was on his path and he understood her burdens. He encouraged Keira to follow her talent with her painting. He was her bright spot in this manipulative life...

And then he was killed...a victim of feuding families and he was the innocent of them all. All light left Keira, guilt, and sorrow replaced it. She stopped painting, took up drinking, weed, and mindless encounters where she was in control. It was at one of these raves where she met Demtri and nothing would be the same for them.

Readers of this series already know the set up...and it is a dozy. All of what you thought might take place does and more...

It is the more I am going to address... because both of these characters have been damaged in their own way...Demtri having to inherit the mantel of his family's power at such a young age. He was alone learning what needed to be done... and it caused him to seal himself off emotionally. He was a strong, mentally, and physically powerful man. Intelligent and not to be underestimated... ever.

Keira was at a juncture... slowing moving towards the bottom. The only thing she wanted more than control of her life... was to stop the pain of losing her brother...and the only thing that worked was becoming numb either with Vodka and/or weed. She loved her other siblings but most had already abandoned her... with relationships of their own or by using her as a pawn in the necessary power plays between all of the crime families.

Keira was sick of it. But there still was a crack of lightness periodically...coming from that Russian Bear Demtri...Keira wanted him... until she became another bargaining chip.

Once again she is not considered... thought of...It has been decreed. Well, circumstances take a turn, and Keira is now presented with the power to save her family and everyone she loves... Go with Demtri and become his wife.

What Keira doesn't know is Demtri has plans for her. He sees her not as a plaything, Stepford wife to present and then put away on the shelf. He may not have promised her LOVE... but he sees the pain she is in and is determined to bring Keira back among the living.

Every time these two connected, it was a battle royal...Keira taking every word of Demtri as him trying to control her...Demtri finds himself so taken by this woman... she becomes his every thought...and when he says mine...his meaning is not as a pet.

Keira rises to all of the challenges thrown at her and Demtri is one Russian Bear I would love to meet. The sexy times between these two are so incredible...I had to read the passages twice...

I am not sure if this is the total end of this series...the way this ended was a tad quick...I for one would always want more... and Katee Roberts has the chops to do it.

I have been dying to get my hands on The Bastard's Bargain for what seems like forever. Dimitri is one of those characters that I just knew I would love to hate and I couldn't wait to see just how amazingly evil he could be.

I ended up loving Dimitri even more than I thought I would. He was still that jerk we were first introduced to, and that change, but we also got to see his more caring side whenever he was with Keira. I really liked that his character didn't change too much and I felt like that kept it very realistic that he was still the hardened mafia guy even when he was also the loving, romance hero.

Keira could have easily been the spoiled brat of the story but that actually never happened. Her character really grew throughout this story and I loved getting to see that. It was intriguing to see someone we've gotten in previous books at their worst and now we're getting them at their best. The character development was a big reason I liked this book so much.

This story was also one of the more action packed ones of this series which was brilliant. There were so many heart-pounding moments that I just couldn't get enough of and they took this story from a good romance to an amazing romantic suspense.

After reading Undercover Attraction I couldn't wait to get my hands on Dmitri's and Keira's book. I loved their interactions and the way they both knew how to make the other stop, think and feel had me drooling for The Bastard's Bargain.

And now having read their book, I can honestly say The Bastard's Bargain by Katee Robert is everything I was hoping for and more. I didn't want it to end! *sobs*

These two have that something special that comes along very rarely and if you're lucky to find that special someone who can see deep into your soul and just get you? yeah you know you've hit the jackpot.
Then add the awesome, well written plot that had the perfect amount of drama, romance and steam what more can a reader ask for?

For me, The Bastard's Bargain was sheer perfection. The storyline kept me turning the pages, I loved how we got to revisit with all the O'Malleys and watching them come to a truce when it comes to our loved ones made me a very happy reader.
Life was never going to be drama free for this family, but if you have the love and support of your family and your soulmate standing next to you, life is good.

The O'Malleys series has been such a joy to read, each book has been entertaining and each couple has touched me with their story.

Bravo & thank you Katee Robert for writing and sharing your O'Malleys with us <3

I received this book for free from Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

If there was ever was a book that I could say I felt drunk reading, it would be this one. Like a fine liquor, I had to moderate myself and read this story in small doses, savor it. I didn't want to rush myself and miss anything. At times, I did feel totally overwhelmed by the story of addiction, control, and love. Did Keira and Dmitri's story do the entire series justice?
YES!
Keira O'Malley, the youngest daughter in the O'Malley clan, has been "protected, discarded, and under-estimated" throughout the entire series. Left to her own devices, she's tried to numb the pain of loss with drugs and alcohol and has lived in a haze ever since. Being "sold off" as a possession to a rival mob boss by her father was never the future she envisioned for herself when she was a little girl.

Dmitri Romanov has been the major bad guy throughout the entire O'Malleys series. He's cold, calculating, and always one step ahead of everyone else. Reading the series, you really wanted to hate Dmitri but somehow, he got under our skin with his Russian accent and the way he seemed to really want Keira for all the right reasons.
At last we finally find out if that's true.
As the book that, I think, everyone has been eagerly waiting for, this story has high expectations for it. Okay, I had high expectations. Would you believe they were met, and then some?! The writing was Ms. Robert's best. I felt everything she wrote. Okay, there could have been a wee bit more intrigue to the story but honestly, for me, I was done with it and wanted a happily ever after for these two. I knew it would take some work and that was what took up a majority of the plot (or the meat of the story). Don't worry, there's trouble. Just not pages and pages and pages of it.

Throughout the entire series, Ms. Robert's characters kept their personalities. No sudden overnight changes because they fell in love. Aiden still treated Keira the same as he did before, blinded by his big brother role. Cillian's personality didn't change. Heck, even James Halloran was still staring sharp, deadly daggers at everyone. I commend Ms. Robert for that aspect to her writing. I wish more writers did that.

Yes, you want to read this book. BUT, don't jump in without reading the previous books in the series... pretty please? You'll regret it. Trust me, they are worth it!!

Thank you, Ms. Robert. That story rocked :)

I was positive that there was no way that Katee Robert would get me on the side of Dmitri Romanov... nope. Not going to happen.

And then I actually read this book.

 photo giphy_zpsz7fawhn8.gif

That said, this was probably my most anticipated in the series just because of the chemistry between Dmitri and Kiera. The way they fight and deny that anything is really happening between them is both frustrating and crazy hot. I can't even explain why, but it just was.

Katee Robert can write steam and she definitely gives us plenty here, and I loved it all! Like I said, the chemistry between these two is off the charts. Kiara, the youngest of the O'Malley's, is still struggling over the death of her brother, and the one person in her family who really got her. It's pushed her to cope in ways that could only be described as unhealthy. But numb is better than dealing with heartbreak... or so she thinks.

Dmitri feels a bond with Kiara from the first time they meet, but he also knows that she is burying pain over something and he's determined to force her to face her issues head on like the queen he knows she is. And can we talk about that... this guy is all about empowering his woman and I think maybe that might be what I loved most about this story.

Of course there is drama, and threats to the territories, and male bonding, and betrayal, and sexy moments... there is literally something for everyone so if you haven't tried this series, I highly recommend it for fans of contemporary romance. I'll admit, I'm not big into mob stories, but there is just something about this series (let's be honest, Katee Robert was what pulled me in) that is completely addicting and I only want more!

Thank you to the publisher for an early copy in exchange for my honest thoughts.

The Bastard's Bargain is a passion filled and angst packed romance that will send you sensations and tingles from head to toe....a vibrant and powerfully provoking tale!!

WHAT A BOOK!!! I have been looking forward to this book ever since book one came out and boy it was a wild ride but one I had a blast to participate in. Now this is the last book of the O'Malley series (as far as I know) ...to be honest I think the ending of this book left me a bit unsure, it wasn't as final as I was expecting it to be so maybe another book or novella...who knows but I am SO *crossing fingers* that this isn't the end.

I will say that this is one of the most intense and action-packed books of the series, although I would like to mention that all of them are configured to turn out that way because these definitely aren't calm or cool like vibes....they are intense and crazy and out of this world but you fall in love anyway.

Our key players of this intense romance are:

Keira O’Malley is the youngest of the siblings, and she is struggling the most out of all of them. She feels guilty for her brother's death. She is the most "lost" of them all. She feels like a misfit around her siblings, and she drowns her pain in alcohol and drugs.
Dmitri Romanov is tough as nails and hardened as he was born to be. He is the boss of the Romanov. He is dangerous, calculating and cold at times. But also craves something more and he senses that he can have something unique with Keira and that she will warm the ice around him.

So this book pretty much takes off after book five. Where our heroine, Keira, agrees to go with Dmitri and be his wife. She chooses to leave her family and take part in her own destiny. But it's not as easy as she thinks it might be. At first, all she cares about is getting away from the protectiveness of her family and nothing else. Until Dmitri forces her to become more than a drug addict. He pretty much makes her go cold turkey from the drugs and the drinking. He knows that she is the weakest with her senses out of whack and he needs her to be sober. Because marriage to him is not going to be safe or easy. He knows what she is capable of and wants her to be his partner...his queen.
"Do I have a choice?"

Dmitri watched her closely. "I won't force you there any more than I'd force you to have sex. It's your choice, It's always been your choice."

Now Keira isn't like the other siblings, she is harder to like. I knew that going in that this book wouldn't be easy at times especially with this heroine because out of all the siblings, she struggles the most internally. Now I love this crazy family, but we see another side to them in this book and I loved how strong Keira stands up to them. They don't really realize that she CHOOSES to be with Dmitri because he understands her in ways that her family never will or never will be open to understanding. It happens when you have highly overprotective brothers that act before thinking.

There is also some great scenes of suspense and action that I have come to look forward to in these books and Katee Robert's does them so well. We still have our villains Althea and Mae and boy are these two a piece of work and boy I really liked the justice they receive FINALLY!!! But there was a fun twist of a betrayal that you totally don't see coming. But seeing this couple just come together in this book is so FANTASTIC!! I honestly couldn't get enough of them mostly because they fit just right. They both have inner demons they deal with daily, but once they decide to take a chance on each other, the ball on this romance really gets rolling. We see so much growth, especially in Keira. She begins painting again and just living life and not swallowing in her own misery. And we see a different tender side to Dmitri, and he makes the best anti-hero that you will fall head over heels in love with.
I'll never get enough of you. You are mine and I am yours, and I'm keeping you for the rest of our fucking lives. I love you, you crazy woman and I'm never letting you go.

Quite frankly, this book knocked my socks off and the only reason it's not a five star is the ending was a bit disappointing, to be honest. But other than that...this book was full speed ahead FANTASTIC and I can't recommend it enough!!

Flawlessly written and completely captivating, The Bastard's Bargain by Katee Ropbert was a sexy and thrilling story that had me hanging on to every word. Robert effortlessly weaves an outstanding plot filled with hot sex, angst, action and suspense that will leave readers breathless. Keira and Dmitri's story was explosive and emotional, and a praiseworthy ending to the O'Malley series.

"There was nothing innocent about him, nothing noble or even a little bit good. He was the villain of this story. The man who would take down her family- unless she became his bride."

Robert does emotional depth so well with her characters, and in such a compelling way. Keira was a character who was so lost and damaged, on a downward spiral and yearning for freedom more and more with each passing day. She didn't know her true value, and in this story we finally see her come into her own and find her purpose. She unexpectedly finds herself lifted up by the last person she'd ever expected, and it was brilliant to watch. It takes a truly talented author to turn a villain into a deliciously fascinating hero, and Robert did so with ease. Dmitri was a multi-layered character who walked the fine line between good and bad; a man with a complicated history and a need for power and control. He and Keira were made for each other, and the struggles they faced in their marriage as well as with outside forces, only served to make their connection stronger. I loved seeing them adapt to one another, and I especially enjoyed the tension that existed every time they were in a room together. The push-and-pull was so well done and I loved every moment of it. The tension between them had been building from their very first meeting, and it reached combustible levels in this book. Robert wrote some incredibly hot scenes that only got hotter as the story progressed. The raw sexual chemistry was off the charts, but it was so much more than physical between them. These two were a force to be reckoned with, and they truly didn't know what they were missing until they came together.

"I've only ever been a pawn."

"Never a pawn. A queen in waiting."

The elements of romance, suspense, and family drama were blended together seamlessly, creating a well-paced and evenly balanced storyline. Some of my favorite moments were when the O'Malley siblings came together again, and it brought me back to The Marriage Contract, the first book in this series. Katee Robert completely knocked this story out of the park, giving her readers a satisfying and exciting conclusion to a fantastic series. I am so unbelievably sad that this series has come to an end, but am looking forward to seeing what this author has in store for her fans next.

To say that I was excited for this book would be a complete understatement. I have loved each and every book in this series, and I count it as one of my favorite romantic series of all time. I went into this book with towering expectations, but I was also incredibly sad thinking about the fact that once I was done with The Bastard’s Bargain, this would be it for me and these characters. But what a book this was! I loved every book in this series, sure, but I firmly believe that Katee Robert has left the best for the last. It’s emotional, tender, sexy and just absolutely a book that I could not stop reading.

When we first met Dmitri several books ago, I despised him. He was manipulative, cocky and absolutely a villain, but even going into this book, he was exactly that same person, and entirely unapologetic at that. So the author had an incredibly daunting task ahead of her when she turned him into a romantic love interest for the youngest O’Malley, Kiera. Let me tell you folks, his redemption arc was bloody brilliant. I just loved everything about Dmitri here. Yes, he is absolutely still ruthless, but we get to see the layers to his character in The Bastard’s Bargain. It was all glorious. He was the perfect man for Kiera. After the events in the first book, Kiera was shattered and struggling with the guilt of the event. We saw her turn into a hostile, rebellious girl who drowned all her issues with alcohol. It was heartbreaking watching her spiral, but throughout the series, Katee Robert shows us glimpses of the fierce woman that Kiera was. She only needed someone to give her a reality check.

That person happens to be Dmitri. Their marriage may seem unconventional at first – she only agrees to it to bring peace to her family – but it becomes the catalyst for Kiera’s path to healing. Dmitri pushes her to fight off her addiction, in ways that may seem cruel at first glance, but they are the only way to get through to Kiera. It’s not always easy watching her battle the addiction – she suffers and falls down a lot, but she is also an incredibly strong young woman, and Dmitri helps bring out that woman. He shows her that she is a queen and empowers her over and over again throughout The Bastard’s Bargain, and dammit if I didn’t find that to be incredibly swoony. In the same way, Kiera also helps to bring out the more tender side to his character. I don’t know you guys, there is something very attractive watching a powerful man like Dmitri fall to his knees around his heroine. The romance is slow (ALL THE TENSION!!), subtle, but oh my goodness, is it worth it! Not only do the two of them have incredible sexual chemistry – seriously, this book was a SCORCHER – but the emotional bond they form took their relationship to the next level. I was just a complete mess by the end of this book because it made me feel so much. Besides the amazing romance, The Bastard’s Bargain also had its hefty dose of suspense and family drama, and as always Katee Robert does a fantastic job at balancing everything with the romance.

The Bastard’s Bargain was a sexy, intense and worthy finale to the phenomenal O’Malleys series. Fans of this series will not be disappointed. For those of you who haven’t read any of the O’Malleys yet, head over to Amazon, your library or your local bookstore ASAP.

***5 ‘Because of Course’ Stars***

This book has me at a loss for words, but only in that whole ‘Hello, book hangover.’ kind of way because this book was everything I could have hoped for when it came to Dmitri and Keira getting their HEA, as well as the finale to the series, and more. It was all kinds of smexy (not that I expected any less) mixed with a lot of heart, a touch of swoony heart twitterpating moments and a good dose of intrigue with a dash of crazy that had me savoring each word and moment and wishing that it didn’t ever end.

Gentleman Murderer

I think it’s safe to say that Dmitri Romanov was THE most hated character of the series, but that also made him the most popular in that whole the one you love to hate the most way. But now? As much I loved, and even adored, the rest of the Alpha AF males in this series, Dmitri out does them all ~ and that’s saying A LOT. The man is Alpha AF, ruthless and unforgiving, but the heart that lies beneath the man, and his unique code of honor, makes him one that I’d give my loyalty (and body) to in heartbeat.

Moya Koroleva

Keira has been the O’Malley who has spent the entire series teetering on the very edge of a cliff that depending on which way the wind blew could be the end of her. But here we finally see the problem child of the clan get her shit straightened out and finally claw her way out of the abyss and become the force she was always meant to be. I fucking ADORED Keira (even more than Dmitri), she is a woman I’d have at my back any day.

”What a polite monster you are.” He growled against her skin. “Your monster, at least in this

From their first collision, Dmitri and Keira’s relationship has been a rocky, yet entertaining one. The chemistry was immediate and I knew that should they actually become more it would be explosive, and lemme tell you ~ it was nuclear. These two were so evenly matched in so many ways it was scary. The smexy going on when they were together was HAWT, but it was the blunt, and at times brutal, honesty they gave each other that showed how perfectly matched they really were because instead of tearing the other down, they did everything they could to make each other stronger.

As sad as I am that this is the end of the series, I cannot deny that The Bastard’s Bargain was as perfect an ending as it could get. True, there are a few things I’d love a little more of, whether it’s a couple of secondary characters getting books (Liam anyone???), or getting a little more of O’Malley siblings working out their own relationships in the new world that they now live in, but I really am good with where everything was at when the book ended.

Even though I didn’t start with the first book of the series, I jumped in with the second one, I highly suggest that you do start at the beginning to get the true emotional gut punch this one serves up and understand all the ties that bind these characters together.

This was a fantastic ending to a wonderful series. The slow build-up of Dmitri Romanov and Keira O’Malley’s relationship throughout the series was intriguing and I was waiting for their story. They both are passionate people and their connection was explosive. Not to mention that this story was a nail-biter all the way through.

Dmitri Romanov is not a good man, he is by no means a likeable hero. In fact he is the perfect anti-hero, a villain, a cold-blooded killer, a dangerous and volatile loner, you name it. And he doesn’t apologize for who he is. He has his own code of honor though, and will stop antagonizing Aiden O’Malley if Keira gives in to his manipulation and accepts to tie the knot with him. But Dmitri is not all powerful in this story and this is changing him in a good way. It’s obvious that he has a lot of weight on his shoulders, he is distracted by his insane attraction to Keira and there is a traitor in his organization. Dmitri is a character I could sympathize with, he is totally flawed and yet his flaws make him endearing.

Since her brother was murdered, Keira has been losing control of her life. She is a drug and alcohol addict, she feels helpless and emotionally numb. Her family has neither been able to comfort her nor save her from herself. Her relationship with Dmitri is complex, she is defiant, enjoys driving him past the point of control and questions his motivations for marrying her. And yet, their mutual attraction is undeniable and their agreement is mutually beneficial. He married her to secure his power, she married him to keep her family safe. Dmitri is a dangerous combination of sexy and murderous and Keira is afraid he will become her next addiction. I loved how singularly focused on Keira he was, how she could lean on him, how he simply understood her.

Dmitri and Keira have a target on their back, their relationship was tested but together they are a force to reckon with. Their story of true love was addicting, their chemistry was combustible. These characters took me on a wild ride filled with passion, angst and danger. I just adored this book, it was a great conclusion to an amazing series! Although this book could be read as a standalone, it is best to read this series in order to follow with the plot and the main characters.

When it comes to both the Romance genre and Erotica genre, this novel was mediocre. Yes, it did have some steamy moments but overall, I wanted more from the story.

Admittedly, I read this book as a standalone instead of reading it for what it was: the sixth novel in a series. For some reason, I was under the impression that this book could be read as a standalone but I definitely wouldn't recommend others to follow my example.

The main characters within this particular novel may not be the main characters in the other books in this series, however; there is a back story and a history that is told in those other novels leading up to this book. It took me a while to catch on to the story and even then, I felt that I was missing things. As well, I didn't feel connected or as if I truly knew the characters (both the main characters and side characters).

If you are looking for a read that is "hot" in content but doesn't necessarily contain a good story, maybe check this one out. I wouldn't say that I have overly high expectations for Romance or Erotica novels (this novel balances between both genres) but I do like the story to have a bit more substance.

***Thank you to Forever Publishing for sending me a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review***

Naughty Factor: 4/5

“I don’t know how to lead. I don’t know how to be a partner. I’ve only ever been a pawn.”
“Never a pawn. A queen in waiting.”

This final book in the series is my absolute FAVORITE! Unexpected love found within the obvious attraction between Dmitri and Keira. So much passion between these two and growth for Keira’s character. All it took was a man to see her for the woman she was.

Though Katee Roberts did an outstanding job of writing each book in this series as a standalone...as a reader, I highly suggest to other readers that you read this series in order. It truly enhances each story with the ongoing events surrounding the O’Malley family which ultimately resulted in the incredible conclusion in this book.

If Dmitri had a role in her life, it was as the villain who locked the princess in the tower. But Keira wasn’t a princess, and the Russian was hardly a beast looking for a magic kiss to turn him into something less monstrous.

Following this series, Dmitri appeared to be the über bad guy. Head of the Russian mob and the O’Malley’s one major enemy, the only regard they hold for him is what a threat he poses to the family and the unattached female siblings. Now that Keira (the youngest) is all that’s left, he will have the alliances he was promised and has been working toward that goal for some time. In seeing and getting to know more about Keira, he sees so much potential in the young sibling and will do whatever it takes for her to see that potential in herself.

“Choose now—perpetual victim or the role you were always meant to play.”
What game was he at now? She tried for a belligerent tone. “And what role is that.”
“My motherfucking queen.”

Oh, how I loved the dynamic between these two. Dmitri ended up being so much more than Keira bargained for and with his strength and control...she became the powerful woman she was meant to be. No longer that kid sister to her O’Malley siblings, she became so much more.

Charlotte North has narrated the series and is the voice of the O’Malleys, Romanovs, Sheridans and the Hallorans. I was disappointed we had to wait so long for the audio, but equally determined to wait and it paid off in spades.

Set in the cities of Boston and New York, Dmitri Romanov has been a thorn in the O’Malleys side, unless it comes to Keira O’Malley, the troubled, feisty, foul-mouthed youngest of the O’Malley clan. Romanov is determined to have her, only she might end up having him.
Steamy, exotic and filled with suspense The Bastard’s Bargain was worth the wait.
Kiera is the youngest O’Malley daughter, and a troubled young woman. Her brother and siblings in their attempt to shelter and protect her have often disregarded her, making her feel lonely, abandoned and unappreciated. She needs to feel valued and when that fails she numbs herself with alcohol and drugs.
Throughout the series you could just hear Kiera crying out. Romanov has always heard and respected her. In a previous book he makes a promise to her, and now he intends to deliver.
Dmitri Romanov has been a cold, sometimes heartless bastard throughout the series. By all rights we should hate him, but Robert offered us glimpses of the man beneath those eyes of ice and somehow we knew the right woman could melt his cold, calculating heart.
Roberts delivered plenty of heart-pounding suspense as villains forge moves and alliances between sworn enemies are made for the greater good.
For fans of the series we see closure to arc threads.
The interaction between Keira and Romanov was off the charts.  From their snarky banter to sizzling hot heat. It was exactly how I expected these two to be from the passion to the power plays.

While each of the books in this series contain one romance and suspense thread, I recommend that you listen to them in the order of their release. Not only are Kiera and the others mentioned, but Romanov is present from the beginning and you will love to hate and swoon for him! 😍 This review was originally posted at Caffeinated Reviewer

THE BASTARD'S BARGAIN by Katee Robert is book Six in "The O'Malleys" series. This is the story of Keira O’Malley and Dmitri Romanov. I have read the previous book (and Loved it) but feel you can make this a standalone book if you choose to do so. Keira and Dmitri agreement to marry did start in the last book but this book takes off from there.
Keira being the youngest of the O'Malley clan was protected in someways and I thought left to her own on other ways. Keria has been going off the deep end since the lost of a close family relative. So much so that she was doing drugs and drinking to much....along with loosing her self value.
Dmitri is the boss of the Romanov gang and has been somewhat of the bad guy through out most of this series. But he is slowly turning into something else and this book just spot lighted it. Dmitri sees more in Keria than her family or even Keria herself. But he needs her to become that person who he knows she can be. Dmitri really showed more patience than I thought he would have toward helping Keria.
I really enjoyed Ms. Roberts writing in the telling of their story. Exciting Read!

After a sleepless night, numbed by alcohol and weed, Keira O’Malley made her decision: now was the time to marry Dmitri Romanov. The O’Malleys would be furious when presented with the done deed, but it would stop the two crime families from warring; a bargain’s a bargain, especially when there’s another threat on the horizon.

I was nearly frantic to read Dmitri’s story; he had made an impression on me right from his introduction in the series, which is unusual for me, because I should not have liked such a character, but I perceived him in the same way Keira did: Dmitri definitely has animal magnetism and he is irresistible and dangerous. The story is excellent: tightly plotted, evenly paced, although I wondered if in reality someone as mentally unstable as the “villain” would be permitted to head a mob family. Who cares! It’s Dmitri and Keira’s story I wanted, and Katee Robert nailed it. I’m even surprised I enjoyed THE BASTARD’S BARGAIN this much, because how often does it happen that one ends up disappointed with a much-awaited book?

I loved how Dmitri and Keira’s relationship progressed: mutual trust had always been a serious issue, and neither knew how the other would react, and neither did we! The fierce sexual chemistry that had always been there between Keira and Dmitri explodes in wildly erotic sex scenes, and in an odd sort of way, their marriage is an ideal one: they both make efforts to compromise and deal with what they’re faced with rationally – and passionately.

I was hoping that Katee Robert would do justice to those two marvellous characters, and she did beyond my wildest expectations! Thank you, Katee Robert, for making Dmitri and Keira’s story the best in this fantastic series!

I have read all of the titles in the series, and I am still a little surprised by how much I liked Dmitri, especially as he was essentially the villain through a lot of the first books, and still isn't the nicest of possible men in this one.

Keira and Dmitri are not a couple that you expect to work, and they are definitely a twist on the enemies to lovers as they are attracted to one another, and there is an interest there...it is their families who are enemies. And they take the enemies to another level as they are warring mafia families in different cities.

This is as messy as you would expect. But it is also as fun as you want it to be and think it will be. the writing is strong, and Ms. Robert manages to turn the villain of the previous books into the hero of this one. It's a fun read and a wonderful finish to the series.

I recommend this title.

keira was strong, snarky, and didn’t let the chaos break her total badass energy.

dmitri was broody, possessive, total consent king with mine written all over him. his dark, intense energy paired with her fire made their chemistry sizzle.

the storyline was decent nothing mind-blowing, but addictive enough to keep you hooked. if you’re into power plays, dirty talk, and tension-filled forced proximity, this one delivers.

Having read the latter half of the O’Malleys series, I really need to go back and read the first three books. Jumping into the series in book four was all well and good, but as I’ve continued to read the books I’ve realised I would have had even more enjoyment if I’d started with book one. Forbidden Promises was wonderful as a standalone novel, but there were a few references that left me wanting to know more. Undercover Attractive did not work as well as a standalone novel, in fact it relied rather heavily upon prior events, but I had fun. The Bastard’s Bargain is best enjoyed if you have knowledge of the series – you do not need to know it all, as I do not, but you do need to understand how events ended in Undercover Attraction.

Despite how I have only read the latter half of the series, I was excited for the final book in the series. In the two books I have read, we’ve been given glimpses into the romance brewing between the two main characters in this book. It is something that has been building for quite some time, waiting for the events to come together. Add in the fact the series is being brought to an end, and you go in expecting big things.

Did this book deliver the necessary big things for a series finale? Mostly.

The book was a lot of fun, sucking you in very quickly. There are plenty of things playing out throughout this one, many things come together, and almost every page keeps you sucked in. There were a couple of points where my interest waned slightly, but for the majority of the book I was sucked in.

Mainly, it was the romance. It was on fire. The relationship between the two was amazing. I loved watching how things grew throughout the book, loved the chemistry between the two, and enjoyed all of their interactions. I really enjoyed our couple in Forbidden Promises, but I think I enjoyed our couple in this one even more. They were wonderful together, and I’m sure those who have been watching the romance build between them will adore how their story played out.

However, I had expected a wee bit more in terms of action. This was the final book in the series, and I expected lots of big events in relation to the crime element of the series. This book focuses a lot more on the romance, meaning I was somewhat let down by the action side of things. It felt to me as though it was always hovering in the background, and when it did take centre stage it was all very anticlimactic. I wanted huge scenes, but everything was over much too quick. When compared to how hard the romance scenes hit, the action seemed rather dull.

Overall, though, this was another great O’Malley book. Well worth the read for fans of the series.

As soon as I spotted this, the final book in the series, was about to be published I just had to read it. This is the culmination of this enthralling story of the O'Malleys and the gangland mobsters they compete with for territory and power. It is a story of expectations, hidden agendas, murder, torture, death and romance. This story focusses on the youngest of the O'Malley siblings, twenty-one year old Keira who has never got over the murder of her beloved brother. She started drinking and taking drugs to numb the pain of his loss and lost herself in the process. When the only man who makes her feel again, the leader of an opposing group of mobsters, Dmitri Romanov, tells her to go away and marry him she agrees. The wedding is nothing like the one she'd dreamed of as a child, but there again Dmitri is nothing like the hero of her childhood dreams. Instead he is outwardly cold, manipulating and always ahead of the game . . . . until it comes to Keira.

This is a story of redemption, helping someone heal and move forward but it is also a story filled with deadly danger, threats and intrigue. Dmitri has been the 'enemy' to the O'Malleys for most of this series but he's the only one who sees Keira and is determined to help her achieve her full potential rather than letting her drown her sorrows in an alcohol and drug induced haze. He proves to be a patient and caring husband, helping Keira become the person he knows she can be - his Queen. However, others are threatening them all and there's a traitor in his home.... Can Keira and Dmitri work together? Can they build on their mutual attraction to find love or will an enemy thwart them all?

This is another fast paced, hot and steamy, romantic suspense that I didn't want to put down until I'd finished it - a brilliant finale to a superb series. It has great characters who readers of earlier books in this series will have got to know well but I still think it could be read and thoroughly enjoyed as a standalone. I have no hesitation in highly recommending it - and all the earlier books, too!

I requested and received a copy of this novel via NetGalley. This is my honest review after choosing to read it.

Did I think for one second going into this book that this would turn out as my favorite of the series? Not at all, but here we are.

The main characters are Keira and Dmitri, we meet them both throughout the series and I didn’t really like either of them. Imagine my surprise when I fell more and more in love with both of them and their story.

Keira is so much stronger and cleverer than I would have imagined. How she handles things and how she tries to make everything right to not endanger her family and her growing into the woman she is at the end of the book, was so uplifting and entertaining. Keira was still grieving and couldn’t cope with the loss of her brother, and she never got any real help from her siblings, even though it was clear that she had serious issues. Dmitri, I don’t even know what to say, he took my heart in storm and reading about him, seeing him caring for Keira and seeing her as his equal and not just a trophy, it warmed my heart. And watching these totally different characters falling in love despite everything, I could read it all over again and wouldn’t be bored for a second.

I will reread this series soon, even if I just want to catch all the interactions with Dmitri and/or Keira.

3.5 stars rounded up AF

How to say this...Normally I wouldn't give this book 4 stars, but I enjoyed it the most out of the whole series so I'm choosing to disregard some of the questionable shit (writing-wise) that happened in this story. Also, I enjoyed Keira and Dmitri both as a couple and as individual characters so much, they are extra af and I love it.

What I enjoyed about this book aka the list of all the extra, over-the-top, not-at-all-valid reasons Keira and Dmitri owned me:

🔥
“Choose now - perpetual victim or the role you were always meant to play.”
What game was he at now? She tried for a belligerent tone. “And what role is that.”
“My motherfucking queen.”

Honestly, that theme of "I am the king, you are my queen" was played up to a repetitive degree at some point, but I still kinda loved it lots, you know? I totally do don't have many weaknesses, but one of them is for sure a grumpy, cold to everyone MC who's heroine's first stan. So Dmitri being so sure that Keira could rule the whole world, or at least New York, if she only put her mind to it, gave me a much needed serotonin rush.

🔥
“I might be a little misguided, but I’m not stupid. It’s in your best interest to keep me happy and occupied so I play good little wife to you. I get that. But I’m taking you up on your offer, and you will deliver.”
He held himself perfectly still as she stood and crossed to stand in front of the desk. “And what, exactly, will I be delivering?”
“Everything.”

What I loved about Keira most was, that in spite of all her vulnerabilities and issues, she still stood strong as hell against Dmitri and she never once let him call the shots (at least after the initial "choice" / blackmail he presented her with). She really held her own and grew into her own person, and made sure to demand not only what she needed, but no less than she deserved from Dmitri.

🔥
"You called me your queen, and I’m going to make you choke on it."

I love a spiteful queen 👏👏👏

🔥
He grabbed her wrist, but he didn’t remove her hand from his cock. “Sex is not on the table.”
“Who said anything about sex?” She ran the heel of her hand up his cock. “Now, lie back and think of Mother Russia.”

😂😂 Ok, but not only was Keira her own brand of comedian, what I enjoyed most about her and her and Dmitri's sex scenes was the absence of that overused "me alpha, me needs to dominate you" shit that's ever-present in mafia romance and everywhere else, really. Don't get me wrong, to each their own, and while sometimes I enjoy that too in smut, it's so tired to me that I love every single instance where we get something even slightly off the normal course of domineering guy in bed and the girl who "needs to let go" 🙄😴

Dmitri was for sure all Big Dick energy type, but so was Keira, and their sex scenes had that kind of push-and-pull that I just love, like it was two partners who know they are equal and at some point don't even need to bother with "who's on top" because they just do shit that feels good to both of them and that's it. It was hot AF is what I'm saying.

🔥
Dmitri nuzzled her pussy. “Your compromise is duly noted. Now, stop talking business. My wife has needs that require attention.”
“What a polite monster you are.”

For real, I need to find myself someone who's as dedicated to servicing their wife's pussy as Dmitri is 🔥 That man spent 1/5 of this book practicing for Olympics in tongue gymnastics and that kind of dedication is admirable 😂👌

🔥
Learning Russian was high on her list of things to do if they survived the coming conflict with the Eldridges, if only because she wanted to know what filthy shit he was whispering in her ear every time he was inside her.

Forget about learning new languages to better your job prospects or some other basic shit. Upping your dirty talk game is the thing xD

🔥
“I’ll never get enough of you. You are mine and I am yours, and I’m keeping you for the rest of our fucking lives. I love you, you crazy woman, and I’m never letting you go,” he growled in Russian.

I am a sucker for love confessions made in foreign languages, unknown to the recipient, and if that love confession is made in Russian, it's like +100 extra points, and I take no feedback on that.

Reasons why this maybe shouldn't necessarily get those 4 stars:

⚠️ Repetitiveness - while I loved it, I really didn't need Keira to be referred to as queen every other chapter, I. GOT. IT. Some random phrases were also so overused, like Keira liking this or that thing "whole hell of a lot", it was just a bit clumsy.

⚠️ Also again with the telling how Dmitri is a monster and I'm just sitting here like:

⚠️ This is something that I chose to be less picky about for the sake of me being able to still enjoy this story but -

For reals, what is logic, normal consequences of characters' actions, rational thinking and plot making sense, we don't know them 😂😂😂 Some shit in this story barely made any sense, not gonna lie, and while I liked that there was an overall arc through the series, by the end of it, the plot was barely holding together at the seams, lol.

Example: Dmitri gets kidnapped. Mother-daughter mafia duo keeps him in an abandoned building, he's bound etc., daughter is torturing him and he demands one of his man (that was taken before him) to be released since now they have him. And the mother actually complies, NO QUESTIONS NO BARGAINING just like that. And I'm just like - WHY. He's got no leverage, they have no reason to let that man go, it's just because a guy they just kidnapped said so, lmaoo.

Oh, and as far as kidnappings go (if it even can be called that...more like...collecting someone from their house for a dose of random torture?), what kind of amateur botched job was that, they even let Dmitri keep his phone, he was literally messaging Keira as they took him to that location and only took a small break from it for getting tortured 😂😂😂

How do you fail at being criminal so much, I'm -

Anyway...as you can see, perfect this was not, but there was just something about this couple, and their chemistry and interactions, that brought me a lot of joy, and what the hell, I'm gonna stick with those 4 stars because I can 😌

Wow.

Reading the rest of the books in this series, I would have never guessed that Keira and Dmitri's book would have even been in contention for series favorite. Dmitri always seemed so cold, so hard...such an evil bad guy. Sure, his interactions with Keira in the last few books was intriguing, but she was so damaged and hell-bent on self destruction, surely their relationship--and therefore their book--would be a disaster?

So. Wrong.

This book grabbed me from the first page and wouldn't let go. From the first few chapters when their relationship seemed rather doomed until Keira came into her own as temporary de facto leader of the Romanovs because of...reasons, I couldn't put this one down. Dmitri and Keira are absolutely made for each other, even if it took them more than half of the book to realize and accpet it. Getting glimpses of the lives the other O'Malley siblings are living along the way was pretty much the icing on one heck of a delicious cake.

The O'Malley series is one that really should be read in order, because each story builds on the one before it and there are many threads which weave in and out of all the books, culminating in the events that take place in this one. So, no--this is not the book to start with. Yes, you'd probably be able to follow along with what is happening just fine and it is a story all on its own, but trust me, you won't be satisfied with knowing just Keira and Dmitri's tale.

I'm sad to see this series end, but anxious to find out where Ms. Roberts will take us next!

The Bastard's Bargain was everything I could possibly hope for!

In this conclusion to Robert’s The O’Malley series we finally get to see Dmitri and Keira together. I wasn’t a big Dmitri fan until the fifth book of this series, but after seeing him go all-out to protect Keira in Undercover Attraction I officially became a member of the Romanov fan club. I was sad to see this series end since it not only introduced me to Robert’s exceptionally provocative writing, this series has also given me some of my favorite mobster hero and heroines to date.

5 stars for the epic conclusion to Robert's The O'Malleys series!

The Bastard's Bargain is now my favorite O'Malley book, Keira is one empowered female and the way she was able to rise from the ashes and own her strength is a fantastic read. Okay and Dimitri isn't too bad himself.

The sixth book in The O'Malleys series rounds up the story line involving a group of organize crime families and their war. Here, we finally see that Keira has accepted Dmitri as her husband so that the war between the O'Malleys and the Romanov ends. But both Keira and Dmitri start to acknowledged that what is between them is more than what their circumstances have dictated.

I do like where Ms. Robert took this story line, considering that when the series first started Dmitri was just a vague shadowy unknown figure while Keira was a very vulnerable and lost young girl on the cusp of womanhood when she lost the only brother who's ever believed in her. Now all she remains is a pawn. In The Bastard's Bargain she refuses to just accept her fate, she negotiates along her own terms with Dmitri showing that she isn't as brittle as she has been for the last three years.

Dmitri knows Keira has a hold on him, more than what she stands for. So I do like the way that the cold Russian suddenly shows his heat for Keira and to acknowledge her talent and her strength that her family failed to do was just simply fantastic. Hence, Keira definitely is the star of this book and her journey and transformation from frail young girl, to lost young woman, to a queen of her own new family is simply a wonder to behold. And yes she and Dmitri do a lot of that smoldering sexy erotic warfare really well too!

Book 6 of the O'Malley family series - another 4 stars** I thoroughly enjoyed the books in the series - this last one being one of my favorites! I really bought into Dmitri and Keira's whole story and thought their chemistry had played out well over all of the 6 books. They were a great couple - the King and the Queen for sure!

As of this date it is the final book of the series. I wouldn't say the end of the book seemed like a finale, I am not sure what other characters the author would create for more books?!?! But if you want some Boston Mob family crime this is your series to go to!!

Look closely at this classy book cover, my fellow mafia romance book loving friends. Who wouldn’t want to make a deal with that handsome devil? Once again, Katee Robert has chosen a great picture to grace the cover of her newest sequel in The O’Malley’s series. I just have to give her a quick “hats off” here in true appreciation for each and every cover of this six book series.

Keira O’Malley, the heroine, is the definition of a downhill, spiraling out of control, killing herself slowly with a lifestyle centered around booze/drugs and hanging out with the wrong crowd kind of party girl. Grief over the loss of a loved one seems destined to send this 21 year old youngest O’Malley to an early grave. Dmitri Romanov, the Russian good guy, bad guy enemy everyone loves to hate, has double sided reasons for wanting to make her his wife, but ultimately there is a surprising unexpected reason, as well. This guy isn’t messing around either, folks. This mafia don manipulates the right circumstances and jumps when opportunity strikes to seal the deal. But, boy, does he ever get more than he bargained for.

What surprised me the most was Dmitri’s unwavering determination and unlimited amount of patience in dealing with Keira’s antics and drama. Fortunately for her, he is able to succeed where her family failed. Eventually these two adversaries to lovers form a genuine attachment and have each other’s backs, no matter who comes gunning for them. Better brace yourself for the journey that takes them there though. Along the way are numerous, very graphic smexy scenes with lusty language, including some mob violence that might make you rather squeamish.

As an avid mafia romance enthusiast, I did enjoy this entire series. From the classy book covers I obviously can’t stop raving about to the ongoing, underlying mob family connections/rival theme that played out and linked each of these stand-alone romantic tales, I stayed fully engaged and hate to see this series come to an end.

I love the O’Malley series by Katee Robert. This was the 6th book in the series and my guess the final book since all the characters have had a book. This was one of my top books I wanted to read in 2018 and I was not disappointed.

This book follows Keira the youngest O’Malley sibling and Dmitri who is the head of the Romanov family. The story picks up right where the last book left off with Dmitri taking Keira. Keira and Dmitri end up getting married quickly in the book and now need to figure out a life together. Keira is used as pawn so she is always trying to keep herself one step ahead of the game and brings her own set of knowledge and experience to the situation.

I loved that the book was told in dual POV’s. We get to see the relationship between Keira and Dmitri unfold. Keira has her guard completely up and doesn’t even realize that Dmitri is turned on by her being so strong.

Keira turned out to be my favorite female lead of the series. She is so strong, but doesn’t see it due to her dependency on drugs and alcohol. I love when she is forced to get sober that you can see she is fit for this world that she lives in and can take control of all situations. Keira comes into her own throughout this book.

Dmitri was an interesting character in all the books in the series so I was very intrigued that the last book was going to be specifically about him. We did get a little more backstory on how he became to be, but the story was more focused on developing a relationship with Keira. Dmitri is a complicated man, but he does keep himself somewhat honest in the book and we do get a refreshing look at him.

The story line is great for this book. We get a great look at the relationship between Dmitri and Keira from the beginning. My second favorite part is seeing Keira begin to recover and her realizing what is wrong with her. I loved the way the author handled addiction because it is not over when you are simply recovered.

My one complaint would be the lack of action in this book. Other books in the series have hard more action in them and this one felt a good portion of the buildup was happening during the story and there was only a mild amount of actual action that happened towards the end of the book. I felt that the focus of this book was more on the relationship between Keira and Dmitri versus the overall O’Malley story. My other complaint is I wish they brought all the siblings back together one last time I missed Sloan.

I would suggest this as a weekend read. I got totally sucked in as I knew I would and couldn’t put the book down. The story line does have some parts where you can stop reading, but I found it very challenging to take a break because I just wanted to know what was going to happen.

I received a copy of this book from Barclay Publicity to provide an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of this book.
