The Secret War Against the Jews: How Western Espionage Betrayed the Jewish People
The authors demonstrate that numerous Western countries, especially the United States and Great Britain, have conducted repeated and willful spying missions on Palestine and later Israel over many decades. While on the surface these two countries and others profess to be ardent allies of Israel, they work, in fact, through their intelligence services to betray Israel's secrets to the Arabs. Their oil and multinational profits, which must be attained at any price through international covert policies.
To understand the duplicitous nature of the West's diplomatic relations with Israel, the authors contend that one must understand the history that begins after the end of World War I with the sordid Mideast exploits of a British diplomat, Jack Philby. They then proceed into a detailed discussion of the boardrooms of American and English bankers and lawyers who had strong connections with Nazi leaders and Arab oil tycoons in the 1930s prior to the outbreak of World War II. About the Authors: Early in his career, John Loftus was an Army intelligence officer and a US government prosecutor. John knows many former intelligence officers and he often quotes these “old spies” as anonymous sources. Even though he is not Jewish, John is president of the Florida Holocaust Museum. Mark Aarons is an Australian journalist and the son of the late Laurie Aarons, former secretary of the Communist Party of Australia.
Overview: This book reveals that Ibn Saud, founder of Saudi Arabia, Allen Dulles, future Director of the C.I.A., and Jack Philby, father of Soviet spy Kim Philby, worked together to further American oil interests in the Middle East, at the expense of Great Britain and the Jews.
Jack Philby: Jack Philby started his career by helping the Arabs fight the Turks during World War I. Jack Philby opposed Zionism, because a Jewish state would hinder American companies from obtaining Arab oil. Also, Jack Philby was one of the many anti-Semites in MI6. During the civil war in the Arabian Peninsula after the Arabs were freed from the Turks, Jack Philby supported Ibn Saud against the Hashemite leader Sharif Hussein. Jack Philby was friends with the grand mufti Haj Amin al Husseini of Jerusalem, a collaborator with the Nazis during World War II. As a middle-aged man, Philby liked Arabs so much that he converted to Islam.
British Antisemitism: British antisemites helped exclude Jordan and the Golan Heights from settlement by the Jews. Many members of MI6 believed that some Jewish bankers, such as the Rothschilds, were secretly Communists.
Ibn Saud: Ibn Saud hated the Jews, because they had rejected the prophet Muhammad. Ibn Saud threatened to sell Saudi Arabian oil to the Nazis, unless Britain and the U.S. agreed to stop Jews from immigrating into Palestine.
Allen Dulles: Allen Dulles was a long-time, high-ranking spy at the CIA. Jack Philby met Allen Dulles when Dulles was stationed in Istanbul in 1921. Interestingly, Richard M. Nixon was a protege of Allen Dulles.
Jack’s Thwarted Scheme to Sell Saudi Oil to Hitler: During the late 1930s, Jack Philby and Ibn Saud made a plan for Saudi Arabia to sell its oil to Nazi Germany, by way of Spain. But Jack foolishly told his son, MI6 agent Kim Philby, about the plan. Unknown to Jack, Kim worked for the Soviet Union. At the suggestion of his Soviet handlers, Kim outed his father to the British authorities, who arrested Jack Philby in Bombay in 1940.
Bermuda Conference: The British and Americans met in Bermuda in 1943 to discuss the persecution of the Jews in Europe. They decided not to raise Jewish immigration quotas in the United States, not to allow Jewish refugees to enter Palestine (which was under British control), and not to attempt a rescue of the Jews in Europe who were being held in Nazi concentration camps.
South America: During World War II, Nelson Rockefeller and Standard Oil helped the Germans obtain oil from South America. Rockefeller also helped Allen Dulles smuggle Nazi war criminals into Argentina. In 1947 the Israelis threatened to expose this information, unless Rockefeller persuaded the South American countries to vote in favor of the creation of the nation of Israel. Rockefeller agreed, but only if the Israelis promised not to hunt down Nazi war criminals in South America. Ben-Gurion kept his part of the bargain. Israeli intelligence did not hunt any of them down, until 1960, when they obtained permission to kidnap Adolf Eichmann.
The CIA, the PLO, and Mossad: The CIA gave money to the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), in order to obtain information about another terrorist, Abu Nidal (famous for terrorist attacks at the Rome and Vienna airports in 1985). The Israeli intelligence agency, Mossad, set up front companies in the United States to penetrate Abu Nidal’s organizations. When the CIA found out about this, it shut down these companies.

This book will blow you away. The author -- John Loftus -- worked in the Justice Department as an investigator into Nazi War Crimes. He has a new book coming out this fall (2010) about U.S. connections to the Nazis, which should be a revelation, if this book is any indication. The chapter on Allen Dulles (who collaborated with the Nazis before and during the war) will boil your blood. Dulles, you may recall, was to become the longest-serving CIA director. He was fired by Kennedy after the Bay of Pigs fiasco, and was later appointed to the Warren Commission, which if you read this book, will not surprise you.

This was a very interesting book describing the dealings, double dealings, and double double dealings individual people, individual groups, and individual governments do to increase their own wealth and power.
Quoting the first two paragraphs of the fourteen page introduction, I feel, give a good introduction to the book.
"The major powers of the world have repeatedly planned covert operations to bring about the partial or total destruction of Israel. Long before there even was a Jewish state in Palestine, Western spies already were out to wreck the Zionist dream. The savage extent of the secret wars against the Jew ill horrify the Western public. This chapter of espionage history, beginning in the 1920s, and continuing to the present day, has never been revealed before.
Half a world away from Israel, a sleepy suburban community hides one of the secret entrances to the underworld of espionage. Most, but not all, of the classified archives of the U.S. government are in Suitland, Maryland, just outside Washington D.C. The Suitland complex contains several restricted access buildings, including the one where Jonathan Pollard worked for Naval Intelligence, before he was discovered to be an Israeli spy"
Like all books relating historical events, they are written from the perspective of the authors. Having made this statement doesn't mean I believe the authors are being dishonest. It just means I take books that are supposed to be presenting facts as the pure unadulterated truth and any opposing written material as mistaken at best and pure fiction at worst, with a large dose of salts.
All in all, a good read, for me, and I enjoyed comparing what I this book had to say with books I have read that have a different perspective.

Riveting expose of the USA's hidden Fascist agenda. Methodically researched and dovetails with other research as to how the ruling elite will do anything for money, power, and global domination. The deal made in hell between David Ben Gurion and Nelson Rockefeller that resulted in the partition of Israel in exchange for not publicizing the Rockefellers' Nazi connections is one of many disclosures that will roll your socks down!

Secret War has subtly changed my view of the Holocaust, Zionism and the birth of Israel, and other 20th Century events that impacted on the Jewish people.
We can’t fully understand the fate of the Jewish people in the 20th Century without assimilating this important book.
I don’t think I’ll ever be able to see these events in quite the same way again, and I wish I’d read the book more than a decade ago, when it was initially published.

Whom Do You Trust?
This is an amazing book! I am not someone who is prone to believe in conspiracy theories and my own grasp of 20th century American politics is not sufficiently deep to make a judgment either way as to how well Loftus' and Aarons' narrative fits with actual events. For example I completely ignored Iran/Contra when it happened and John Foster Dulles, former Secretary of State, was formerly just a minor footnote in my mind. The authors weave a fascinating tale better than any spy thriller of spies and triple even quadriple agents scheming to control access to oil and Nazi wealth. It isn't about antisemitism per se, though this does crop up with some of the prominent players, but its more about how human greed and the need to maintain networks of spies resulted in creating a bias against Israel in the American and British intelligence communities.
Some of the material covered is quite shocking - the statements that U.S. intelligences regularly fed Israeli military secrets to the Saudis and other Arab States is a perfidious betrayal of one of America's staunchest allies. So too is the allegation that Israel knew of the heavy use of former Nazis in the Western world and kept silent in order to blackmail Western politicians for their support, though this thread in the book is more by inference than some of the other topics.
I agree the enthusiasm of the other 5 star reviews. Whether or not you believe in the authors' explanation of the events it is an incredibly engaging read. Chapter 12 on U.S. Liberty incident concerns an event that I've recently become familiar with and the explanation fits the facts better than any other I've read, which doesn't necessarily mean that it is the correct explanation. The final chapters also tells the highly moving story of Sol Shnadow, a Polish Jew who survived the Nazis and White Russian Nazi collaborators multiple times. Loftus has a 500 page copy of his hand written memoirs and it should probably be turned into a book. The book ends about 1994 with a tragically misguided hopeful assessment of Arafat and the Oslo peace process - had the authors kept to their theme they would have noted that Arafat's power playing and double dealing was entirely in keeping with the rest of what they had written.
Recommended for people interested in espionage either in real life or in fictional form. Interesting background to recent history. I neither believe nor disbelieve what the authors have written but the content is memorable and I shall keep it in mind as a cross reference for future reading.

lays out many interesting arguments, including the thesis that hitler had a group of jewish spies in the USSR who fed him true information for barbarossa, but then gave him bad estimates at key points (battles of stalingrad, kursk, and berlin), leading to soviet victory--and who thereafter revealed themselves to be triple agents by demanding stalin's assistance to infant israel in exchange for their silence regarding how extensively soviet espionage had penetrated the US. triple agents made similar demand on truman, buying US assistance to israel in exchange for silence regarding how extensively the US was employing nazi war criminals.

I am not certain how much of the information in this book is true, though it seems to be well based in fact. Even if just half of the information to be found in it is true, it is eye opening, and well worth the read. I highly recommend to everyone.

This is obviously full of disinformation as anything heavily reliant upon confidential "insider" sources tends to be (the why and whom of who would engineer this narrative you're free to speculate) but I'd consider it essential reading nonetheless for anyone interested in 20th century oil politics and intelligence. Basically the entire world of intelligence is anti-Semitic (the degree to which Mossad is culpable isn't touched upon) starting with the British to the Americans. There's "bad" guys like James Forrestal, Dulles, Bush, Rockefeller and specifically "bad" Jews like Kissinger, who is called out as a particularly psychopathic self-hating jew [jump to around page 313], who worked their hardest to undermine the security of the Israeli state for both ideological and profit reasons... but also there were some "friends" such as Alexander Haig and James Jesus Angleton (actually not quite but a compromised Israeli asset nonetheless) and note specifically the "good" Jews such as Robert Maxwell (father of none other than Ghislaine Maxwell whose made a recent media splash as working with Jeffrey Epstein on various projects).
The handling of the USS Liberty incident is quite unique (here's a response from someone onboard) but the entire whitewash trying to portray Israeli foreign policy decisions as being pressured onto an otherwise peace loving nation by an anti-Semitic world is laughable... arming the Contras and other counterrevolutionary forces was supposedly just a matter of "survival" not ideology and profit.

The small group of Western and Communist intelligence officers who spoke on this subject agreed with some reservations that the boast is true. They are speaking of the Jewish spy network, code named “Max,” that arguably did more to destroy the Third Reich than all Western intelligence operations combined. In summary, Zionist intelligence piggybacked on Stalin’s most secret operation to deceive Hitler’s generals. American Jews overwhelmingly supported Kennedy and claimed credit for his victory. To everyone’s surprise, Israel’s politicians endorsed his Republican opponent. To this day, many American Jews do not understand why the leaders of Israel openly backed Nixon and vehemently denounced John Kennedy for his father’s well-known pro-Fascist, anti-Semitic views. True, Joseph Kennedy was a despicable man who invested secretly with the Nazis and encouraged Britain to ally itself with Hitler against Stalin, but was that any reason to hate his son? According to a number of our sources in the intelligence community, Ben-Gurion had nothing against JFK personally, but he had a ton of dirt on Nixon.

Wow! This book was published in 1995 - and the topic is just as important and relevant today, as the world turns against the Jews and Israel, once again, in Israel's time of need. Some of the summary paragraph say it all. It is amazing to me, after reading this book, that Israel has actually survived all of these years. US was always betraying Israel.

Now US president was standing by while Israel bombed. What happened to their American ally? p. 491 It is a matter of public record that many former members of the Regan-Bush had heavy investment in oil companies that they had clear conflict of interest in determining US policy in the Middle East. Geroge Bush secretly waived the Federal conflict of interest statute.
Last chapter on Shnadow - fascinating - at the end - with Bielskis.. Could identify Nazis living in the US. FBI hid files. Nazis on NATO payroll. Even Wiesenthal could not proceed against them. White Russian group - moved to NJ.

excellent book, lots of true spy stories, intrigue and espionage by the shadow government that runs the wars that keep them rich and powerful. John Loftus does his research and knows his material really well..

I didn't finish this book, as I got the point after awhile. Very strong case for what goes on behind the scenes of world governments, spies, etc. and how that ends up affecting the Jews.

Nearly a quarter century has passed since this book was published. According to one source, 100,ooo copies were sold. However, I don't think the book was picked up in popular discussion; and there was no social media to bring it to the awareness of the average American. I certainly never heard of it until I saw it recommended for the chapter on the controversial USS Liberty event in 1967. The authors, who are not Jewish, devoted years of research to document the "secret war against the Jews;" and in the process of that exposed the web of unconstitutional surveillance that has been ongoing in America since WWII. The book is divided into three sections: 1) The Age of Bigotry, 1920-1947, 2) The Age of Greed, 1948-1973, and 3) The Age of Stupidity, 1974-1992.
One criticism of the book is its reliance on anonymous "old spies." Those spies were under gag orders enforced by loss of pension penalties. However, most of their stories are supported by documentation Loftus was able to dig out of the vast, unexplored U.S. classified archives in Suitland, Maryland. I am skeptical of how Loftus and Aarons connect the dots in some cases, but for the most part I believe their analysis is rational and makes sense of the present as well as the past.

"....Our sources say that the history books have missed the most important elements of this story of the violation of democratic rights: the systematic electronic eavesdropping employed against American Jews engaged in legitimate political activities. In this chapter [chpt 8] we discuss the following allegations.

Who’s running the country?
Rich, promiscuous, antisemitic spies who aim is to secure money and power through the relationship between Arab oil and Western oil companies. That’s who.
I can’t comment on all the claims made by the authors, but I can tell you with reasonable confidence that the parts about Croatia, Ante Pavelić, the Ustasha and Australia are correct. A couple of books help me to declare this, '1941 the Year that Keeps Returning' by Slavko Goldstein 1941: The Year That Keeps Returning and 'the Balkan Essays' of Hubert Butler Balkan Essays, plus the fact that I was 12 when the Australian government changed from right wing to left wing, and remember it well. Many of the migrant Ustasha community in Sydney lived in the Prime Minister's electorate of Werriwa. This is why he was so well aware of them and hence his government.
What was really sad was the vicious hatred of Israel by Arab leaders, the complacent hatred of Israel by the British government and the exploitative hatred of Israel by the various international spies. It is evident is that the Jews can’t lift a finger without someone calling them nasty names and I think it’s wise not to apply too much logic to this situation. You can if you wish (and I advise it) read from the prophet Ezekiel chapter 36 where God says he will return the Jews from the nations to which he has scattered them to their own land, not for their sake but for his sake. Antisemitism in its many forms is therefore not a war against Israel but a war against God. In my opinion, the book makes this abundantly clear by the lives of the various antisemites it portrays. The authors call them evil, and I guess it makes me wonder about the definition of evil and mental illness, nepotism, amorality, self-deception, all other forms of deception, lying, greed and callousness, to name a few. My husband was a fan of the exorcist Malachi Martin and once mentioned a number of high-ranking politicians who according to that priest were in need of an exorcist.

The 1948 armament of Israel through Czechoslovakia was both riveting reading and profoundly moving. ‘The United States sent Nazi scientists to help Egypt build missiles to destroy Israel’ was not.

Interesting history, The author is far too kind to the Jews, however. The opposition may be ruthless, but the Jews are their full match in terms of dissolute corruption. And all one needs to know about Israel today can be seen in the huge overreaction to the Oct 7 Hamas incident. Plus I have seen interviews with IDF soldiers that indicate that it may well have been staged as a pretext to invade and attack Gaza. Israel intends to totally eliminate the Palestinians. And Europeans are next. So I do not appreciate the "poor Jews" aspect of this book.

I anonymously received this book several years ago. I never found out who sent it or why. I have yet to read more than a few pages. it sits mostly on the shelf. Most recently it caught my attention again so I pulled it from the shelf. Judging from the reviews it looks as though it would be worth my effort. Unfortunately I doubt it will move me any closer to knowing why I received such a book.

This review is tentative, as is my decision on whether or not to finish reading the book. Let me explain.
The book is divided into three parts: 1) The Age of Bigotry, roughly through 1947; 2) The Age of Greed, roughly 1948 to 1973; and 3) The Age of Stupidity, roughly 1974-1993, when the book was written. The first two, as described by other reviewers, is "blow-away" material.
The final part, which I am reading now, covers recent history. As Barbara Tuchman explains in her brilliant introduction to Practicing History, writing about recent history is difficult. This part of the book graphically illustrates those difficulties since at the time of the writing, Jimmy Carter and George H.W. Bush were very much active in current events. Reagan was felled by dementia. The coverage of Carter and Bush I seem to be colored by the writers' political views. The effort to rehabilitate Carter's failed presidency and to demonize Bush I (who I happen not to have liked) are too obvious.
Another difficulty I have with the book is that it overemphasizes the importance of the secret activities of the CIA and British equivalents and underemphasizes the importance of other events. The book notes the decline, in most of the 1980's and 1990's of oil prices but gives none of the credit to Reagan's policies in its efforts to demonize Reagan as a puppet of the oil companies.
History is often often a mixed bag and the book fails to understand that. I am a few hours away from deciding whether to finish it or put it down.

There was reference to "long gas lines" in 1977 when of course that did not happen until April 1979 in California, May 1979 elsewhere. Such factual errors shake confidence in the accusations based upon them. And holding out Jimmy Carter as a friend of the Jews and Israel was a bit much. The author needed to do some fact checking

I think the title promises a lot more than the book delivers. Much of the info in the book is not that "secret," in fact. Rather, anyone who has studied history at all would know much of what this book reveals. That said, there were still some troubling and interesting things that I did know, and, even where I did know something, this book provided additional details to fill out the story. Thus, it was still a compelling read.

December 27, 2018This book will blow you away. The author -- John Loftus -- worked in the Justice Department as an investigator into Nazi War Crimes. He later published another book about U.S. connections to the Nazis. The chapter on Allen Dulles (who collaborated with the Nazis before and during the war) is blood-curdling. It convinced me that someone should write a bio of Dulles (which came years later -- "The Devil's Chessboard"). Dulles, you may recall, was to become the longest-serving CIA director. He was fired by Kennedy after the Bay of Pigs fiasco, and was later appointed to the Warren Commission, which if you read this book, will not surprise you.
