I overall enjoyed this story but I will say it had a lot of drama and issues that seemed to easily resolved or brushed off but then simple things that should have been easily forgiven weren't. I think that was my same issue with the first book. I liked enough thougg and will read the next book in the series.
nearly a 4* .... There's lots of drama. I don't have a problem with drama but it skipped from one to the next in a flash and then it seemed to be rushed, especially the ending. It's a good read, but Nicole's character pissed me off a bit in parts, likes to act like a spoilt brat.
I enjoyed the story because it gives you a glimpse of what it is like to be an opera singer particularly when you've damaged your voice. Additionally, Aria and Nicole's characters have the guilt ridden anger and gut wrenching pain of 15 years of unresolved pain between them. Very good character development. Well done!
This was a book that featured a lot of singing - by an aptly named opera singer - Aria. It injected some intrigue into the story by revealing that she had left town overnight when 17, something her best friend at the time, could not forgive her for. When reunited in their hometown, this topic came up a lot. Again, quite of lot of thinking by the characters which took a fair amount of time for them to actually discuss. And then some issues that caused quite a lot of hurt and pain.
Annoyingly when a book is part of a series I seem to be unable to resist reading the lot! And there were 5 of these. I read them whilst taking an extended journey involving 3 trains and 2 buses – the plot is easy to follow. A pleasant read.
I don't know if the author was a singer, is a singer, or knows a singer really, really well, but all of the vocal details were achingly spot-on. And the pathos and angst in the romance was incredible. I was genuinely nervous for the protagonists, wanted to (gently) yell at them at times, and was pretty much shattered by the whole thing. That's the drama, but it was beautifully paced by some wonderful side characters and a lovely setting. Such a terrific book, and a delightful way to spend a few hours.
A great story that helps you understand just how much our past affects us and often grows out of control without being understood and dealt with. Ari and Nic grow and learn to understand that their lives 15 years in the past are not equal to the present. They both need to grow and hurt and love and change. Many twists and turns but all headed in the right direction. Good read.
So this was alright. But people have problems right?. Insurmountable, unsolvable issues that just hold them back..and then someone..well only if we are nearing the end of the book..someone says a few words and Aha..Its so simple..and how could the character not have seen the solution earlier..well frankly cause it would have made the book shorter..so in short the ending was rushed but the rest of the read was alright..3 stars
This has a great plot. Familiar, but with some twists.
I must say the only thing that truly bothered me was the ending. It is HEA, but I would have preferred to have read more on Nicole's healing process before the actual end. For all that has happened, and Nicole's acknowledgment of all that she needs to do, the reconciliation seemed very quick and a little random.
A small town romance but a big town of forgiveness!
Aria and Nicole both have their own secrets even though they were childhood friends. Aria is an Opera singer who has come back home to hopefully relearn how to sing. She left behind Nicole, part owner of a B& B. It is with struggling time for both of them to realize that they still had feelings toward each other. Enjoy!
I like it because aria came back too her roots even because it was too rest her vocal chord and she ended up staying at a bed and breakfast where her love interest work with her mother and they finally forgive each other and ended up together.
I didn't have confidence that the author was going to sensitively handle the controversial nature of a white woman being cast in an Asian role in Madame Butterfly, particularly not when the woman's best friend had nicknamed her "Cho" after the character.
