Forged in Darkness pushes the Jack Forge series into more intense territory, with escalating stakes and a clear refinement in plot and pacing. The world-building continues to grow in depth, the supporting cast gets more fleshed out, and the combat sequences are as punchy and cinematic as ever.

However, Jack Forge himself remains a mixed bag. While the character is slowly becoming more relatable, there is still something holding me back from fully connecting with him. His motivations and emotional range are beginning to show nuance, but it sometimes feels like the narrative is doing more of the heavy lifting than the character development itself.

That said, the story arc in this instalment is compelling and definitely a step up from earlier books. There is a stronger sense of momentum, and by the end, I was keen to see what comes next.

If you have stuck with the series so far, this one will likely feel like a payoff starting to take shape. It is not quite a five-star yet for me, but the series is moving in the right direction.

I love these stories plenty of action with believable characters. This one follows Jack and his marine squad helping complete a secret mission on board the destroyer Scorpio. Roll on the next installment would definitely recommend this series

Continues the tale of our Space Marine friends.
I like this series because the people seem real and completely believable.
The best description of the black abyss of Space I've read.

Not even close to one of my favorites in this series. With Gorge be coming an officer it's like the character becomes completely lacking. The action disappears from the story even though it's intended to be there. Maybe the next one will be better.

Jack didn't want to be a Marine, but now could not imagine his life any other way. The tension was mounting during this story and as Jack was holding his breath, I realized that I was too.

Good read

I did enjoyed the book and the previous ones. Not masterpieces but entertaining. Bit short and with a bit of improbable scenarios but still entertaining.

The Action Continues

It is a gripping action packed story complete with strained romantic undertones. Each mission offers unique challenges Jack must overcome. So far the battles have been unique.
