Ivanhoe was disinherited by his father, Cedric, because he wished to marry Lady Rowena against Cedric's wishes. Ivanhoe goes off to fight in Palestine with King Richard the Lionheart. He returns but only Rebecca the Jewess recognises him. Cedric Rowena, Ivanhoe and Rebecca are taken captive by their enemies. King Richard escapes from captivity and his supporters rescue them. Ivanhoe marries Rowena and King Richard outwits his scheming brother, Prince John, to wrest the throne of England.
