Here are more than 1,800 quotations, organized from A-to-Z, from America's consummate author--Mark Twain. A must-have for all Twain collectors, The Quotable Mark Twain is filled with his opinions about the people he knew, the places he's been, and the books he wrote, as well as more far-ranging topics, such as writers, billiards, smoking, his family, and more. The book also includes 150 illustrations taken from the original editions of Twain's publications, source citations for each quotation, an annotated bibliography, and a complete index.
(I'm writing this in November 2016 merely to report I have not been active on GoodReads for several years. I've been busying writing and editing books and haven't had the time or inclination to keep up with social media. I don't object to this sort of site on principle. It's just that I'm bothered by the way keeping up everything can suck up one's time and become an end in itself.)
Mark Twain was not only a great American writer, but he was a very wise and witty man. These quotes made me smile and made me think. You can't go wrong with Mark Twain! I wish I could have a conversation with him. But, he influences my writing from beyond the grave.
This is a very choppy and seemingly randomly organized collection. Not much information on Clemons' location where he lived throughout his life. Difficult to recommend...
Even without being a big fan of non-fiction, this was a nice read. It offered a glimpse into Twain's personality and way of thinkikng. To me, it was interesting, funny and enjoyable.
