An elite Hollywood soiree. A cheating husband. A carnal encounter in the woods… It’s been a hell of a Friday for Nisa Lennox, and the weekend has only just started. By Sunday she’ll have discovered the secret world of Lycans, herself, and possibly true love.
I love flawed protagonists, women who (sometimes emotionally, sometimes physically) kick ass, and seductive (not strictly human) men that are wild in the sack. While strife and sex make my stories go-round, I’m a big fan of things working out for the best, and by the end of the series at least, a hard won HEA.
Nisa has been married to Shane for a few years, and despite appearing to be a happy couple, they hide a harsh reality. The marriage is phony. Shane's fame for being a great writer is thanks to Nisa, but he continues not only to cheat on her, but humiliates her whenever he can.
The high point of their unsuccessful marriage occurs when they travel to apparently Shane to sign an advantageous contract, but there, Nisa ends up meeting an interesting and mysterious man. More than that, she is introduced to a creature - a Lycan - who turns Nisa's life inside out.
To defend their lives, the Lycans will force Nisa to accept an agreement. But in the end, a surprising news changes everything...
Woman learns how to stand up for herself against her emotionally abusive, cheating husband by having sex with a werewolf. The emotional abuse and cheating is really hard to read about, so trigger warnings for that. I'm not really sure if the protagonist's immediate obsession and desire to return and have more sex with the first were-creature she met is all that plausible but then, compared to her husband, the were-creatures are probably immensely appealing. There were plenty of sex scenes, but someone else will have to tell me if they're hot or not, because I'm not wired that way. Main criticism is of the pacing. The last 10-20% of it seemed really rushed and the story ended in a way that felt like there's still at least 1/3 to 1/2 of the story left. There are of course sequels, but the novella reads like maybe the stories should all be combined into one novel rather than novella series. Strangely uplifting feminist paranormal romance reading experience in the aftermath of #metoo. Still deeply uncomfortable about the cheating.
I am not happy ☺ right now due to me having to wait!
Shane have no shame. But I was disappointed in Nisa. She came off as a woman tolerating her husband's betrayal. Willa pissed me off by the contract. That was a heartless deal. But what I want to know is who's baby is Nisa pregnant with, Arlo or Shane? Will Arlo know automatically by scent alone? This is getting frustrating. I now have to wait for book 2. Ugh!!
Love this author. Will but more of her books. Great story. Shane was a loser, and after Nissa met Arlo she finally realized she was cheating herself from happiness and recognition for her writing. Nissa comes into her own in this book and a loved the humor. And Arlo. What a hotty!! The book ends with a cliffhanger, but it was so good I immediately book the second book and read it. Even better than the first.
I don't really know how to review this...... It was well written and you got a good look at the characters.... But it was a bit weird... i mean the Mc enjoyed having sex with a half formed wolf..... Im all for shifter romances but this took the biscuit.... i dunno 2.5 stars maybe... i really dont know.....
At first I didn't like the beginning of this book, but then I continue to read and it for better.Read it in one night ,will keep my eye out for the second book.
WOW! I love werewolf books but I didn't expect this. In one weekend Nisa found her voice, embraced her body and found happiness. But not with her husband.
This was such an engrossing story that I hate that it’s over. Nisa and Arlo were so hot together and I throughly disliked Shane. I hope that Nisa and Arlo get a HEA!
