This enlightening and charmingly illustrated tale teaches children about the importance of treating animals with care and respect.
When a little girl receives a bunny as a birthday gift, she is delighted, taking her new leporine companion with her everywhere. A little frightened, upon awakening, the girl reads the guide to bunny care she has been given, and realizes that she has been doing everything wrong...
Apparently the picture-book debut of Yang Dong, an expatriate Chinese author/artist living in the UK, Mine! is a cute little book, one that can be used to launch a discussion with very young children about the correct way to care for and interact with the animals in our charge. The text is simple - no more than a phrase per page - and the artwork sweet. I'm not sure, all told, that this one was entirely to my taste, aesthetically speaking - somehow, it was just a little too cute - but I think it will work quite well for the intended audience. Recommended to anyone looking for children's stories that can be used in humane education.
Pets are not toys, love is more complex than you think... Charmingly enthusiastic rabbit-loving girl discovers that real love means she has to look at a rabbit as a rabbit, not as an extension of its owner’s wishes. A deceptively deep book - not just for a girl who wants a rabbit!
