The ultimate celebration of U2 for the band’s fans—with two great books in one!
Cowritten by Brian Boyd, a leading music journalist and close associate of U2, and Niall Stokes, editor of Ireland's legendary Hot Press magazine, U2 Songs + Experience recounts the band's incredible career and analyzes the songs from all their studio albums. Along with a discussion of the influences, inspiration, and origins of U2’s immensely popular music, this volume covers the group’s rise from its roots in post-punk and its socially and politically conscious music. Iconic and rare photographs showcase posters, backstage passes, classic flyers, and other rock memorabilia.
Material compiled from U2 Experience and The Stories Behind the Songs.
The perfect book to add to a U2 fan's personal collection.
For new U2 fans, or those that compulsively collect all U2 information that can be tracked down, this is a great book which provides details on all of the U2 albums, the history behind each song, and more background on the individual band members.
Several formatting errors, typos, and political intolerance mar what is an informative effort. Wrapping up every single song selection with attempts to be witty and/or clever leaves the reader begging for toning down the hype machine.
Abraham Lincoln referred to as a founding father of America? (See entry for "Get Out of Your Own Way.") Um, you're only four score and seven years inaccurate. Any political reference not aligned to a left-wing viewpoint is unabashedly slammed, as if anyone who might have a different opinion must certainly be daft.
Despite these shortcomings, this is a good resource for details on U2 albums and songs. Enjoy that aspect and roll your eyes at the rest.
