In this collection of Zim adventures Zim discovers that there's another alien living right underneath him who has already successfully conquered part of the Earth. Then the Tallest send Zim and Gir to retrieve a bendy-straw-time-thingy which speeds up time the faster you get to it so there are serious communication difficulties around it. Much the to chagrin of the other Irkens around the time device, Zim actually manages to retrieve it...eventually. Then comes a two-parter in which Dib has to find a replacement for the rare bottle of Darkpoop Soda he spilled or face the wrath of Gaz. His quest has him stumble on a weird group of people who have discovered that all the various types of Poop Soda have magical energy they can harness. They also need a bottle of Darkpoop Soda to stop a cataclysmic event. And of course, Zim and Gir have been buying up all the Darkpoop Soda in the entire area to clean their spaceship so Dib has to find a way to convince Zim to let him have a bottle. And in the last story, Gir has decided to start coming to skool, much to Zim's chagrin and Dib's incredulousness. When Gir buries his memory chip in the front yard, Zim goes in search of it because he heard that the other children told Gir secrets. He wants to use them to help his invasion. Gir has evidently been tunneling in the front yard for quite a while because there are extensive tunnels and caves, and they are full of Gir things. Dib has also stumbled into the caves hoping they will yield some proof that Zim is an alien.
A fun collection of Zim adventures that had some great Gir moments (because that's what we really care about). Dib's soda adventure was probably my favorite, though the tunnels of Gir-ness were also quite entertaining. Recommended to humor fans, wacky scifi fans, inept alien invader fans, and of course, fans of the Invader Zim show.
not as good as volume 5, the opening chapter about Zim's quest to retrieve a bendy-straw for the tallest is classic Zim, but the second chapter is just kind of meh with Zim finding another alien invasion going on literally underneath his own but an invasion by the last survivor of the galaxy's most boring race, Dib's two-parter is practically one giant poop joke, though the idea of wizards whose magic is fueled by flavors of pop is actually kind of cool and the fact that it's all driven by Dib's fear of Gaz elevates it (fear of Gaz is the beginning of wisdom in the Invader ZIM universe), and I'm not a fan of the artwork in the last chapter, though it has Miss Bitters in it, so it's not all bad. Still plenty of laughs to be had even if it didn't quite knock it out of the park as much as the previous volume.
Once again, the earliest issue is shoved to the back. I have no idea what the reasoning is for it this time. It involves GIR disguising himself as a kid so he can go to school, and then Zim and Dib digging through the yard even though we know the "secrets" about the kids GIR knows is just gossip. In the next issue, Zim finds out that someone has taken over Earth underground, and I'm surprised there wasn't an obvious Angry Beavers reference when beavers were shown. Next, the Tallest send Zim on a mission to retrieve a time thingy, and he dooms other Irkens who are trapped. I know Zim is stupid, but I feel like these comics have made him even more stupid. We get a two-parter that doesn't really matter in the long run but has its funny moments as Dib looks through flavors of Poop Cola and struggles to give Zim a compliment. The drawing of the characters sometimes doesn't fit depending on the story.
My least favorite volume so far. There was a two-parter about soda wizards that was just okay, and the last issue was both poorly written and poorly illustrated. There's some good stuff but in general it's just not up to par.
