Kelsey and her family have moved into an abandoned B&B that they're fixing up. It’s a beautiful place and it even comes with its own bunny…but it also seems to come with its own ghost. With the help of their new bunny friend, Kelsey and her friends and CCSC clubmates Becca and Leo investigate the true source of the mysterious on-goings at the B&B.
This story closes out the series in a satisfying way, and includes a very light ghost plot that feels seasonally appropriate. And animal fans will be thrilled to see plenty new animal capers, including the return of the lovable dogs from book 5, Dog-Gone Danger.
I started writing at 8 years old and when I speak to kids at schools or libraries I show them the stories I wrote as a child. I loved mystery series like Judy Bolton and Nancy Drew, and my DREAM was to write a series of my own. This happened when My Sister the Ghost was published by Avon books in 1994.
Since then I’ve been fortunate to write other series like The Seer, Dead Girl trilogy, Strange Encounters, Regeneration and Curious Cat Spy Club. I recently added a mini mystery to the Curious Cat Spy Club series titled Dog Rescue Time Warp which has a surprise ending.
I love hearing from fans and always write back. And I’ll send a spy activity packet to anyone that asks. Email link at www.LindaJoySingleton.com
Kelsey, Becca, and Leo are thirteen and amateur sleuths, with their own Curious Cat Spy Club. They're also devotees and eager to fundraise for the local shelter. Kelsey's family of six have just bought a three-story turreted fixer-upper to renovate into a Bed-and-Breakfast. The home has its own Home Bunny, Trixie, who is quite an adventurous handful, plus tales of Ghosts, disappearances, and treasure! This is Curious Cat Spy Club #6.
I'm very sad that this is the last book in the Curious Cat Spy Club series; the author closed the series with all the i's dotted and the t's crossed, but in a way that the series could make a come back with new titles. I would like that to happen.
This book was my favorite one in the whole series. Club member Kelsey and her family have bought a fixer-up old house with plenty of character and it has come with its own mystery and a cute bunny too! Kelsey and her club mates Becca and Leo swing into action when they hear the story about mysterious bells, a girl who drowned on her birthday many years ago, and rumors of treasure hidden in the house. The bunny, whose care comes with the house through an old tradition, adds some lively action to the story. I love how the kids systematically discover clues and follow them. I love reading about old houses that may have hidden treasure and may be haunted. And true to the purpose of the Curious Cat Spy Club, the kids have a fund raiser to raise awareness of the need for adoption of dogs and also to buy a van for animal transportation.
I really enjoyed this book. It starts out with a great mystery about a previous occupant who disappeared which made me want to keep reading. Everything is very realistic in this book. Kelsey, the main character, is moving into her families new house. It has a lot of work needed, but it also comes with a bunny(which is part of the mystery). Her dad is against that stipulation, but not having a house is worse. Kelsey gets the turret room. After reading the Velvet Room, I always wanted a room like that.
There is a mystery neighbor, a fundraiser for pets in a shelter, friends who might have to move, and trying to find a treasure. There are the normal trials and tribulations about friendships, school, family and growing up.
I finished it in one sitting and thoroughly enjoyed it. I will be purchasing the other books in the series.
I loved this book I could not put it done. It was super cute and funny I would definitely recommend this book to anyone I loved going on the adventure with the story.
After they move into a new B&B that Kelsey's parents are going to be running, they hear from the realtor's grandma about how it's supposedly haunted. But that's not all, they inherit a rabbit, Trixie too along with the house as it's apparently tradition for the B&B to always have a rabbit about and the previous owners did the same.
After strange things start happening, Kelsey, Leo and Becca her friends all look into the house's history and mystery surrounding it as more strange things happen like a supposed break in and finding a mystery key.
After Trixie escapes outside, Kelsey sees what she thinks is a girl but soon doubts it was as she starts to wonder if it was actually a ghost after they talk, discovering the girl's name is Lyric and following that, Trixie goes missing...
It was a good concept but a bit confusing with all the characters potentials and spookiness surrounding the over all mystery. However, I didn't fully love the story, but as it's for younger readers I do think they would enjoy it but older reader more so as younger children may find it hard to follow the main plot line.
Many thanks to the publishers for allowing me to review this book for them!
This was a cute, middle-grade mystery centered around a haunted house, missing treasure, and a few rabbits. Well-paced, upbeat and entertaining. I never got bored.
This is a great book for any animal lovers, as it features rabbits (past and present), a cat, and dogs.
This is the first book that I read in this series. I enjoyed it! I think this could be a modern Nancy Drew-type series. It was a quick read and I think children will love it.
A new house for the Case family. A new bunny. A new neighbor/friend. But when the bunny goes missing, and the kids start searching for potential treasure, will they find it?
The kids have always enjoyed Linda Joy Singleton's CCSC series, but now it's pushing to mediocrity. The most recent books aren't as good lately. The plots lack the same magic. And what's the hurry in hooking up characters? Makes some young readers squirmy. 2.5 stars.
A big thank you to NetGalley and Albert Whitman & Company for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is a middle grade children's book and is a mystery. I found this to be an interesting mystery, which brought the last to life. I think 4-6 graders would enjoy to read on their own and can also be read to earlier advanced children. Very enjoyable to read. I rated this a 4.
