New from Bestselling Proverbs 31 Author Suzanne Eller!
Without realizing it, we've gotten lost in our own little lives. We've settled for "good enough" and days that run together in an unmemorable blur. We long for something to shake us up, but we're exhausted by the thought of it too.
In her warm, vulnerable style, bestselling Proverbs 31 author Suzanne Eller shows how living and loving without limits has nothing to do with your own efforts--and it has everything to do with God's Holy Spirit. Unpacking the promises and teachings Jesus shared with the disciples about the Holy Spirit, Suzanne shows how you can stop settling and start trulyliving. When you learn to unwrap the gift of his presence, you'll find the world-changing, foundation-shaking, soul-stirring life of passion and purpose God is waiting to give you.
Women who are led by the Holy Spirit of God - who does not want to find themselves in that group? Suzanne Eller writes with conviction, gentleness, and beauty to encourage women to learn to recognize what the Holy Spirit brings to our lives. God has given the Holy Spirit to comfort, caution, and counsel us, and so much more besides!
Suzie takes us on a study of the book of Acts to show us how the Holy Spirit impacted the early church. Each chapter features a story from that book, touching on Peter, Stephen, Paul, and others. I appreciated how the themes for the chapters were built around Biblical examples, and I could tell that Suzie had done research into the time period and the context of the Scriptures.
One of my favorite quotes from the book came from Chapter 3: "When lies feel like truth, we have a choice to make. We can allow those messages to define us, or we can live by truth." The Holy Spirit will certainly help us to find truth for our lives. I also loved the chapter on how the Holy Spirit looks past the labels that can become applies to our lives, and He'll equip us to do more than we would ever think possible as we surrender to Him. There's another great chapter about how the Holy Spirit fights for us because we are loved and valued.
While readers may find some theological differences when discussing the gifts of the Holy Spirit, overall I would recommend this book to any woman who wants a reminder of how much God has given to us. It's easy to become discouraged, and we all face trials and difficulties. But we never face them alone. We always have God who loves us, Jesus who rescues us, and the Holy Spirit who helps us live out our faith. What confidence awaits the heart that is led by Him!
I received my copy of the book from the publisher. All opinions in this review are my own.
They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?” ~Luke 24:32
Have you ever had one of those moments? Where you’re going about your ordinary business, trying to make sense of things, when all of a sudden it feels as though your heart is on fire? When the hope wells up and overflows? When emotions are high and everything feels possible?
When you know—just know—that God is near?
This verse from Luke kept running through my mind as I read Suzanne Eller’s new book, The Spirit-Led Heart.
I have always connected closely with the idea of the Holy Spirit. Maybe it’s because I go to a Pentecostal-ish church and we operate by the Spirit, seeking after Him, not making excessive plans for the service but instead trying to connect and follow the Spirit. Maybe it goes back to the early, exciting days of my faith, when God opened my eyes to see Him in new ways, and I devoured books like Catherine Marshall’s The Helper. Whatever the reason, the minute I heard the name of Suzie Eller’s new book, I knew that it would be one that would be important to me.
I jumped at the chance to read this book, and even so, it exceeded my expectations. It’s one thing for someone to inspire you, and this author is one person I watch and learn from. She’s the real deal, and I’ve learned to trust her guidance because I’ve seen how she truly lives her faith and always points people back to Him. She tries to never get in the way but to do her part and then get out of the way and let the Holy Spirit do the rest.
But it goes deeper than that. This book woke up my spirit again. It reminded me why I love my God like I do. It reminded me of how the Spirit enlightens and informs and encourages and empowers. And it made me realize how much I was shortchanging myself by not embracing the Spirit in every step that I take.
It showed me that I may be walking that road to Emmaus, just as the disciples in the book of Luke, and I may be talking about God, but so often I find myself oblivious to Jesus’ presence and forget that He is RIGHT HERE. RIGHT NOW.
Here’s the promise: that God is near. And WITH GOD, all things are possible. The gift of the Spirit isn’t something for a select few—it’s a treasure that we can open again and again, every single day. It will shape every moment and change the way we live.
Do you long to know the Holy Spirit better? Learn more about his loving, powerful presence in Suzanne Eller's new book, The Spirit-Led Heart: Living a Life of Love and Faith without Borders. I enjoyed Suzie's wise, thought-provoking perspectives on the third person of the Trinity.
I have grown up in a church denomination that tends to not cover the Holy Spirit's roles as often as I prefer. Maybe you're curious to learn more about Him like me, but you're afraid to get started because you seek solid teaching.
Suzie's book is firmly grounded in the Bible, and it takes us through the book of Acts. She speaks with kindness and sensitivity, and you'll feel like your girlfriend or favorite auntie is introducing you to her dear Counselor and Guide. The Spirit-Led Heart will leave you feeling refreshed and uplifted, and will give you scriptural insight you probably haven't encountered before.
I love Suzie's vulnerability in this book. She is honest about her struggle to accept hard truths in scripture, like the account of Ananias and Sapphira. Suzie wrestles it out in front of us and shares helpful perspective.
Suzie shares a beautiful story of how the Holy Spirit led her to India to minister to one special woman. The story was so poignant, I began to weep with joy, and I praised the Holy Spirit for His amazing, marvelous work.
Her personal stories are delightful, touching, funny, and sweet. Suzie's warmth draws you in, and her solid faith challenges you to consider familiar truths in a new way. I am grateful for her gentle admonitions to step out in greater faith by depending on the Holy Spirit's leading.
In the last chapter, Suzie takes you on a simple, down-to-earth journey through spiritual gifts. I appreciated her grounded approach and her faithfulness to scripture.
The Spirit-Led Heart includes a chapter-by-chapter study guide, perfect for personal or group study.
I am grateful to have received an advance review copy from Bethany House, and all opinions are my own.
Do you ever question what you should say or do in a situation? Do you want to be led by the Spirit, but wonder if it’s even possible?
If that’s you, I’m thrilled to be able to recommend A Spirit-Led Heart to you.
This book showed me how to replace my uncertainty with the confidence that comes from knowing the power of the Holy Spirit is already inside me.
"A Spirit-led, empowered heart believes that his power is greater than a right-now situation and right-now feelings." Suzie Eller.
Recently, I encountered a situation with a friend that made me want to step in and fix everything that was wrong for her. This situation actually occurred while I was reading A Spirit-Led Heart. Rather than fretting for days over having the “right” words to say, I used what I was learning from Suzie to guide my approach. The results were peace and confidence in the Lord like I had never experienced before.
Suzie showed me that God has only asked me to love people and pray for them; the rest is up to Him. When I embraced this mentality, I was empowered to pray for my friend, but release her situation to God.
For the first time, I felt like I was partnering with God and He was the leader, rather than me operating in my own strength and wearing myself out.
If you’ve never read a book by Suzie Eller before, you are in for a treat. Suzie’s books are like sitting down to coffee with a friend. She has an unconditional love for all people that will both encourage and empower you. So, go ahead, get this book and prepare for a whole lot of goodness!
This was a wonderful book with so much helpful information on the Holy Spirit. It really explained more of what the Holy Spirit does and who He is. Suzanne dove into the book of Acts to unpack the Holy Spirit's actions. The book had great topics like confidence, direction and boldness. I love the chapter on living in truth where Suzanne says "Lies lead to assumptions, which become beliefs, which produce actions (or inactions) that impact your life and your identity." That was such a powerful and true statement. At the beginning of each chapter there's a quote and at the end there's some Scripture, a Spirit-led promise, a Spirit-led invitation and a prayer. I loved the personal stories she told, especially about a trip she took to India and the woman she met there, which brought me to tears. There were a few more instances where something really hit me as I was reading and brought tears to my eyes. I also really felt for what Suzanne's going through now, with her mom and daughter both fighting cancer. The chapter about boldness really challenged me as I struggle with that. I loved how Suzanne admitted to her own struggles; it felt like she really understood and has been there and is still on the journey with us. There's also a great study guide at the end of the book. I highly recommend this book for women and I think men could also appreciate it.
I received a copy of this book from the Bethany House Publishers. I was not required to write a positive review, and have not been compensated for this. This is my honest opinion.
Although aware of the importance of the Holy Spirit as part of the Trinity, I've tread lightly when discussing His role. He seems far more mysterious than the Father or the Son. I get those roles. So when Suzanne Eller mentioned she'd be penning a book about living a life led by the Spirit, I felt compelled to review it. If for nothing more than my education.
I'm not disappointed. By studying the book of Acts, Suzie developed a deeper understanding of what it means to be led by the Spirit. She deftly divulges that understanding to her readers.
The beauty of this book is in its easy-to-understand revelation of the power of the Holy Spirit working in our hearts. Each chapter illustrates, through story and biblical application, how a woman led by the Spirit is equipped to "live a life of love and faith without borders." Life application is found throughout the pages of this book, but especially so at each chapter end, where Suzie offers a specific Scripture, a promise offered by the Spirit, an invitation, and a prayer. Led by the Spirit, each of us can be empowered to live out the life God intends. Let Suzanne Eller in "The Spirit-Led Heart" help you do just that. Come to find out, He's not so mysterious after all!
Suzanne Eller author of a new book, The Spirit-Led Heart connects the heavenly dots of a relationship with the sometimes mysterious Holy Spirit. She gives examples of how the Holy Spirit functions in the life of a believer. She supports her statements of facts with evidence from God’s Holy Word, The Bible. In my opinion, this is an accurate, relevant book that will help anyone who is seeking to grow in Christlikeness. Suzanne Eller accurately describes how the Holy Spirit develops a relationship with us and then we do the will of God. She reassures the believer that a spirit-led woman trusts that God can use her, even though her knees knock. A spirit-led woman fights for others, because Jesus fought for her first. A spirit-led woman believes that God loves her, and freely loves him back. This book is a page turner, you just don’t want to stop reading until you reach the end. I read with an expectant heart one filled with the promised Holy Spirit. All we have to do is to take the steps led by the Holy Spirit, and wait to be filled with Joy that only God can give us. This is a must read book. I highly recommend this book.
What a sweet book. It soothed my soul yet challenged me to seek God more and what He would have me do. I enjoyed a chapter of this delightful book every morning after time in the Word. I loved how I was already reading Acts, and this book uses a lot of passages from Acts.
In this book, she explores what the Scriptures say about the Holy Spirit and how He can empower us, lead us, counsel us, and show us what gifts God would have us use in the service of His kingdom. I loved the chapter on conviction, how we do love our faith, but most importantly, we should live our faith. With God’s Spirit, we can be bold in our service to God and others!
I also appreciated how she approached all spiritual gifts including the controversial gift of tongues. She completely relies on all Scripture to make her points, and I respect her so much for it.No one needs to be afraid to read a book about the Holy Spirit. This book is a gentle yet powerful introduction to the great and sweet presence of the Holy Spirit, filled with many personal stories from the author’s life.

This was such a lovely Faith Study book to delve into and use to examine small areas of my own life that I want to bring more balance to. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone looking to bring more balance into their day to day lives.
Sometimes a book stands out and remains in your memory. That book may have came into your life at the perfect moment. For the exact reason. The Spirit-Led Heart is one of those books. As always, Suzanne Eller has written another life changer. Do you question the position of the Holy Spirit? Do you doubt your own faith in your Christian walk? Do you seek a Helper? The Spirit-Led Heart will take you through uncertainty, truth, direction, discernment, and wisdom. Open your borders to live a life of boldness and confidence.
God's Timing This book was waiting for me when I arrived home after my dad's funeral. Talk about God's timing. What did I need at that moment? A reminder of the Source of life who has the capacity to meet my heart and lead my heart.
My favorite quote: “A Spirit-led heart knows what she believes. It’s who she is and what she is becoming. She is convinced that God loves her, and moreover she loves Him back.”
“With warmth and vulnerability about her own journey, bestselling author and Proverbs 31 speaker Suzanne Eller shows that, with the Helper, we are not alone or ill-equipped. In these pages, she reveals what the Holy Spirit offers”.
This book is life-changing. As a Christian, you hear and learn about Jesus and God; yet far too often, the Holy Spirit gets left out of the equation. Suzanne Eller effortlessly lifts the veil off of the mystic of the Holy Spirit. She shows you how to understand, hear from and equip yourself with the Holy Spirit to whom is available to all believers.
“Ponder scripture rather than pounding out a reading schedule”.
Wow, just wow! For far too many years, I pounded out a reading schedule instead of pondering on Gods Word. I loved that she advocates this method! I truly appreciated the break down of all the spiritual gifts and how they still exist and apply in day to day life. This book is a very valuable resource filled with practical applications, a study guide and chocked full of scripture verses to back up her every claim. I highly recommend this book to all! I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and Net Galley. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
Suzanne Eller has written a book about encountering the Holy Spirit in your life, titled The Spirit-Led Heart. I have to admit I don't always live my life relying on the Holy Spirit, but I desire to rely more and more, and I think as believer's many of us would say the same thing. So what should we do? Well, first we need to learn more about who and the purpose of the Holy Spirit. As I learn that I then learn to rely on the working of the Spirit in my life, more and more. That is what it takes, trusting and obedience to the Word! Though not always easy. Suzanne shares about her experiences and what she learned, she also shared what happens when we focus on self and self-reliance, about how our natural reaction to fear is doubt, and what happens the longer we hold on to that fear and doubt will hinder us and cause us to run the other direction. So much truth there, as I have experienced that. This will cause our vision to be clouded. Who wants to live like that? Not me, so what do we do? In the book, Suzanne shares Scripture, Bible stories, and quotes by theologians to point us to what that entails. I like how she simplified the work of God the Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit: we were created and we are loved by our heavenly Father, we were rescued by our Savior, and we are empowered to live our faith through the Holy Spirit. "The Trinity reveals how God loves, seeks, and helps us in every part of our relationship with Him" I don't know about you, but I need that, because I know I can't do it on my own. But I have the Holy Spirit, the Helper to go to. Just as the Scripture says in John 14:16-17 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you. Suzanne shares stories that are real and relatable with struggles that many of us have dealt with, and points us to Scripture to provide us with truth and what the Word of God shows us. Some of these struggles she writes about and what the job of Holy Spirit is in these areas of: uncertainty, empowerment, living in truth, wandering, boldness, comfort, counseling, discernment and wisdom, conviction, and gifting. She also lays out some of the lies and assumptions we make, how that may make us feel like, but then how the truth in the Word can set you free and how we can overcome those struggles, lies, and assumptions we make.
We need to be women that stop relying on self, trying to figure out things on our own, and trying to prove ourselves, and instead rely on the power the Holy Spirit can have in our lives, if we seek, trust and believe in our Lord. This book will help take you to the Word, share a promise's from God, learn more about the Holy Spirit, and invite you to practical application to grow you in faith. Another great thing about this book is the study questions at the back of the book for each chapter to take you deeper or to do with a group of ladies.
Here are some of my highlights and there were many more that I did not include:
It wasn't my job to make it all go away. I'm not big enough, and it's not what he was asking for. Instead of letting my emotions dictate, I asked the Holy Spirit for help. We become so busy trying to repair, foster, and manage what is beyond our ability that we live in defeat or continual frustration. But God's plan for that person does not hinge on your efforts. It's based on what has already been done on the cross. (Romans 8:11) The Holy Spirit is not a one-time encounter...A Spirit-led heart goes through a continual process of emptying and refilling. A Spirit-led empowered heart believes that His power is greater than a right-now situation and right-now feelings. Ask to be filled. Refuse to run on empty or in your own grit-your-teeth strength. Truth is a spiritual weapon. It's one of the arsenals in the battle against an enemy whose goal is to mire God's daughters in toothless lies. There are those moments when the inner voice of the Holy Spirit is confirming or comforting, but sometimes it's convicting. ~ this keeps us from wandering God leads us daily. We can plan, and we will, but if he's in it (the waiting times, the go times), we are exactly where we should be. If God is in this waiting phase of your life, then it's not going to fall apart if you release it to him. If it does, then it probably needed to be put down. A Spirit-led heart reframes the usual questions to find the God factor. When we do this, we find direction. Every part of our lives counts. If God is in it, there's something taking place that we might not understand until eternity. If a bold heart is a surrendered heart, you obey even when that makes you feel uncomfortable. By ourselves, we can do nothing. The Spirit of God helps and strengthens us, even when it seems there is no fight left in us. We think that we have to make grand gestures, and sometimes that's exactly where God might lead. For most of us, though it's the small things that make the biggest difference. Why we desperately need a Counselor. We all have gaps when it comes to faith. We all have gaps when it comes to God's plans for our church, our family, our marriage, our nation, our lives. We come to faith as babes, and we grow. At some point we transition from the bottle to spiritual meat. We practice our faith and we live it. In every part of this we need counsel - advice, guidance, insight. The Holy Spirit knows. There is no voice that should be louder than God's in my life. Discernment searches the truth. It knows the truth. It lives the truth. If I say I love something, but I'm not willing to give myself to it, it's still in the flirting stage. Deep, committed love is sacrificial. Conviction will always take us into deeper waters of faith. I can't imagine my life without faith in Christ. I can't imagine a life without the love of my heavenly Father. I love that the Holy Spirit can take heartfelt words and plant them like seeds in rugged soil.
In today's world we are confronted, battered and scared by the known and unknown. As I read this captivating book by Suzie Eller, I am being confronted, battered and scared. My husband of 37 years and love of my life for nearly 40 has filed for divorce. He and I have weathered many of lifes storms together as we ministered and pastored in churches, youth camps, prison chaplaincy and in the private sector. Little did I know that I would be weathering this storm without him. Little did I know that I would read this book that ultimately led me to the Holy Spirit to walk beside me, filling me as never before. Praise for Suzie and our heavenly father!
A beautiful book written by a beautiful soul, God is love and truth, and we are so blessed to love and worship him. This book actually took a while for me to read, I just got so overwhelmed so many times. Good overwhelmed. Not bad overwhelmed. This really just shares the simple truth of walking with our Lord everyday at all times. Choosing to act like a child of God, not declare that you're a child of God. He is so real, just give him and this book a chance.
Truly a Spirit lead book page after page I was drawn in and closer I grew in my understanding of the Holy Spirit in my life. I highly recommend this book and look forward to studying it again.
We often quench the Holy Spirit and negate His work in our lives. Why? Suzie answers that question and poses questions to our own hearts to help us engage with the Spirit.
Honestly, this was super refreshing. It had lots of heart felt and real stories that were easy to relate to, and it felt like I could apply the stories to my own life. Very well written and an easy read.
What does it take to have a heart that is Spirit-led instead of self-led? In a world where Christianity is increasingly seen with disdain, and even Christians seem to feel God is far away from them, we need guidance from time to time regarding things of faith. Jesus has promised us the Holy Spirit coming to us. Even when we feel God is far away from us, we cannot let feelings dictate reality. Just like the presence of the sun. Just because we are in a dark room does not mean the sun is not out there. We need guidance to sense the presence of God in more ways than one. This book is one resource to help us do just that. In addressing each emotion that arises out of fear, weakness, and a sense of insecurity, Eller helps put things in perspective to help us recognize that God is Sovereign and He is in control. We need to trust His leading. Spurred by the prayer of her friend, Jennifer Dukes Lee, she feels a sense of relief and is released to trust God more. From uncertainty and self-doubt, she seeks out faith in God via a promise from God. Instead of relying on our own power, we learn that the Spirit-led heart is empowered by God for the greater good and purpose. Our lives are not defined by opinions or mass appeal but by truth alone. She shows us the lies that we often fall prey into and replaces them with truth; with direction; and with boldness. I like the way she describes Spirit-led direction.
"Direction isn't about where we are; it's who is on God's heart as we go."
Too often, we are handicapped by our limited perspectives and views. In order to see the big picture, we need to learn to come out of our little boxes. We need to see from God's point of view. Plus, venturing into an unknown territory can be scary. With God's presence, we can derive comfort and assurance that we are not alone. When in difficult situations, we know that God will guide us in His time. With wise discernment and gentle counsel, Eller leads us through the emotional turmoils that can happen to us at different phases of our lives. Each chapter starts with a quote followed by a description of the problem. The author then carefully weaves in biblical insights with examples in life to show us that if God leads her, we too can let God lead us. She ends each chapter with four things: The Word; the Promise; an Invitation; and a Prayer.
There is a nice ring of personal touch to the book. Eller acknowledges her own weaknesses and struggles. She assures us that even as she writes to teach, she is there with us in the mountain of challenges. She struggles with faith and the making sense of the meaning of it all. The framework of each chapter makes this book a nice extended devotional to help us sense the Holy Spirit. The discussion and study guide at the end of the book helps us do our own Bible studies to help solidify some of the concepts introduced in the book. Eller's devotional is extremely readable; openly honest; and gently assuring. Those of us looking for theologically heavy subjects will not find them in this book. Nevertheless, the gentle manner in which Eller brings out the problem and identifies is comforting in itself. More importantly, see her writings as a way for us to receive the Holy Spirit into our daily lives. For when God moves, He moves in a way that we are unaware of unless we take time to wait upon Him and seek His Face.
Suzanne Eller is a popular speaker and author serving with Proverbs 31 Ministries and leads women in their spiritual walk with Christ. She maintains an active blog at tsuzanneeller.com and has published several books.

From the start of The Spirit-Led Heart by Suzanne Eller, my mindset started shifting, I knew it was happening as I could feel myself struggling with the concept of talking to the Holy Spirit, thanking Him, asking for His help, it all felt so foreign. The more I read the more my understanding grew and, as with most shifts of this kind, my actions started to change as well! Each of the chapters has a call to apply it my life as well a prayer and a verse. The end of the book has challenging questions to direct me back into the word and ruminate on the concepts shared.
Suzie writes with equal measures of heart-breaking honesty and a wonderful sense of fun!. She sheds amazing insight on even the verses I can quote, it’s the linking of them to a larger scheme of the understanding of the faith and the stories she shares alongside them, both hers and those in the gospels, which bring the truths to life.
The concept of a spirit-led heart is so inspiring! The book opens with the manifesto and it’s such a beautiful aspiration: “A Spirit-Led Heart Manifesto A woman with a Spirit-led heart ...trusts that God can use her, even when her knees knock ...believes that when she speaks to God, he hears ...reaches for truth as a weapon and isn’t afraid to use it ...tells her story, for she has walked with Jesus ...is not lost in the valleys or on the mountaintops ...fights for others, because Jesus fought for her first ...isn’t a know-it-all, though she longs to know all there is to know ...doesn’t have time to be distracted by drama with no eternal value ...believes that God loves her, and freely loves him back.”
The inspiration runs throughout and Suzie really poses some tough challenges such as this one: “We may choose inaction over doing it badly or falling on our face. We tell the world that God has a plan for us, but doubt it privately. This is where we might lose our way. We are so busy mulling over our fears or doubts that we fail to understand that God sees it differently.”
It is chockablock full of information, both into scripture and life. Suzie calls on us to walk in the shoes of the gospel writers and absorb how we can remain filled with the faith they so often exhibit: “We are filled as Jesus followers. What does that look like? It might be an appropriate or Holy Spirit response at the right moment. It is patience when ours is thin. It’s wisdom that allows our brain to catch up with our emotions, so that we can deal with the real problem rather than create more. It is faith in an impossible situation. A Spirit-led, empowered heart believes that his power is greater than a right-now situation and right-now feelings.”
I am so grateful to have read this book. It has changed my perception of the Holy Spirit, encouraged me to look anew at familiar verses and improved my daily life. I am working on so many elements of the Spirit-led heart but am wholeheartedly sold on the vision Suzie has painted and feel equipped by the tools she has provided. It’s a five out of five and I recommend it to those who are looking to take their understanding of the Holy Spirit to a new level and engage in developing the fruits of the spirit.
For all of the many wonderful Christian books there are on the market today, few tackle the topic of the Holy Spirit -- and even fewer do it in a way that is conversational, full of warmth, and totally applicable to everyday life. Until now.
Suzie Eller's book reminds us that we don't have to "go it alone" in this life - we have a Helper who is there to guide and help us every step of the way and an Advocate who fights our battles with and for us. Through sharing both insights from Scripture as well as personal stories, Suzie demonstrates how the Holy Spirit enlivens, inspires, and activates our everyday faith and partners with us to live courageously.
This book is SUCH an incredible gift! I can't tell you how many times I've tried to do things in my own strength or I've run out far ahead of Him in my own determination to live my life MY way, and it never turns out well. Ultimately, I always end up quitting because I'm scared or I turn back because I feel ill-equipped or I drag my feet because I lose my inspiration or confidence. When it came right down to it, I felt alone. While I know what the Bible says about Christians receiving the Holy Spirit, I honestly didn't know what this meant on a practical, day-to-day level, and I figured the Holy Spirit was a topic that would one day be taught in church - but it really hasn't been...or at least not in a way that I understood on a gut level where I could live it out. Of course I want to live as a spirit-led woman, but I didn't really know what that meant or how to go about it until I read this heart-changing book.
Suzie's book has really deepened my faith walk, because I now understand on a heart level who the Holy Spirit is and how a partnership helps me to push past fear, do things in His strength, and stay inspired along the way. The book begins with "A Spirit-Let Heart Manifesto" which is worth the price of the book alone, and each chapter contains a quality of a spirit-led heart (e.g. empowered, bold, advocated and comforted), and ends with a brief section of Scripture followed by "Your Spirit-Led Promise", "Your Spirit-Led Invitation", and "Prayer."
What I love about how the book is set up is that in addition to the beautiful picture Suzie paints with her words and stories, the book is solidly based on Scripture and she invites you to begin living as a spirit-led child of Christ right away, so you are learning and doing from the very beginning! My favorite books combine teaching and inspiration with "doing", and this book fits right into that genre. I have been a fan of each of Suzie's books (The Mended Heart is an all-time favorite I've just about worn out), and her latest book is an incredible addition to any Christian library. Highly recommend!
I am grateful to have received a copy of "The Spirit-Led Heart" Living a Life of Love and Faith without Borders" from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.
Want to be set on a path of empowerment? Learn how to be confident & bold? Be comforted when you are hurt? Recognize that you are equipped and empowered by a helper to live a life of faith and love without borders? This book will explain and share personal stories of how the Holy Spirit helps each believer deepen her faith, find courage, use her gifts, and handle uncertainty.
It is well written, in a conversational, approachable style. Each chapter shares the Word, a Spirit Led Promise, A Spirit-Led Invitation, and a prayer that challenges or reminds your heart of all that God reveals through the Holy Spirit.
This book is powerful, encouraging, thought provoking, and helpful. As I started to read, my life was completely upside down as I grieved a relationship that is failed and the uncertainty of determining what is best for a child we've parented and loved as our own for over four years. So my heart was broken and pouring out. I had given up the thought that I could fix anything- or rely on myself- but struggling with how to hear God's voice, trust Him fully, and stay focused on His providence, plan, and provision for the immediate needs and every step of the way.
Throughout this 'primer' on the Holy Spirit and all of the aspects He brings to the believer, I was encouraged, challenged, and able to recognize that the Spirit is with me and God will reveal in His timing and through the Spirit all that I need to know and experience. So I found peace. I found comfort. I admit I've rested in revisiting head knowledge while taking what I know and learning to live out my faith and belief in my circumstances.
Suzanne Eller's counsel is wise. Her concepts about truth vs a lie or an almost truth, are spot on, and her theology matches the Bible well. But it's her vulnerability and the fact that the book is written to ''us" or with the pronoun "we". She has included you in what she is learning to remember, to frame her beliefs, and to explore how to grow and surrender to our Great God, with the Helper directing our minds and choices.
The book is one that I highlighted, starred, and marked up as I went. I love that there are group discussion questions at the back, and hope to re-read it with a group in the future. It's a book I can highly recommend.
