What if your daughter’s propensity for “feeling all the feels” is actually a good thing? Teens and tweens have a reputation for letting their emotions get the best of them, so much so that we often wonder if our families (and the world) wouldn’t be better off if these young women we love could feel just a little less. But as Linda Barrick discovered, these emotions play an important role in the spiritual lives of young women, and, when they learn to direct them rightly, their feelings can be a powerful force for good in their lives, homes, and schools. That’s why Linda and her daughter Jen wrote this devotional for teen girls. After Linda’s daughter, Jen, was in a traumatic car accident, Jen was in many ways “frozen” at age fifteen and completely uninhibited. That means Jen still says what she’s thinking and feeling almost all the time. Because of this Jen’s mom, Linda, got a unique glimpse into the inner world of young women, and she realized that the emotions young teen girls feel are a beautiful gift. It gives them the ability, like Jen, to have an unhindered, best-friend relationship with their Heavenly Father. In this 30-day devotional for young teen girls, Jen Barrick, with the help of her mom, Linda Barrick, compiled her own real-life prayers with passages from Psalms in order to speak directly to the heart of young women. It will teach these teens and tweens how to cultivate a deep, emotional relationship with the God who loves them. Each day
JEN BARRICK suffered a traumatic brain injury at age 15 and was not expected to live. After five weeks, she woke up from a coma singing praise songs and quoting every verse she had hidden in her heart. Jen gives us a glimpse of what we will have in heaven one day: that intimate, uninhibited communication with the Lord of Lords. She is an extraordinary speaker and has a diploma from the Institute of Biblical Studies at Liberty University. Even though Jennifer still suffers from vision impairment and memory loss, she knows there is no limit to what God can accomplish through her life. The teenage years can feel like a roller coaster ride with emotions hitting highs and lows, often in the same day. Priceless by Jen Barrick is a 30 day devotional designed to teach teen girls how to communicate with God and navigate these days wisely.
“You’ve probably heard people talk about how unstable your feelings are, and they probably weren’t talking about them in a positive way. Maybe it almost made you feel like something was wrong with you or like you didn’t have the freedom to be yourself … What if [this age] is the perfect age for you to learn to worship God with all your heart and soul because you are bubbling over with feelings? What if God planned this special time as you blossom into adulthood to capture your whole heart because your heart is so full?
(taken from page 14)
The author shares her personal story of an accident which left her with devastating injuries and her life forever altered. The one remaining and unchanging aspect of her life was her faith in God.
Priceless was written based on the author’s own feelings and thoughts as she worked her way through the most difficult and challenging days of recovery. She explores feelings of being abandoned, afraid, confused, disappointed, fat, invisible, tired, ugly, and unpopular to name a few.
Each day includes a short devotional, a prayer, and often an action step. The author hopes for teenage girls is for them to discover they are priceless, loved infinitely by God, and He has a plan for each life.
The devotionals are written transparently and authentically resulting in daily readings which will resonate with teenage girls. This is a wonderful book not only for teenage girls but for those working with teenage girls.

Jen Barrick prayed for boldness and God answered her prayer in a powerful way. She shares her unexpected, humble transformation in Priceless and what follows is a bold 30 day devotional for teen girls. These devotions address the different emotions common to teenage girls.
The chapters in Priceless are simple but not boring. They offer questions, examples or activities designed to strengthen confidence, build a positive outlook of life and to give help through difficult times. Bible verses and prayers in each chapter also encourage a deeper relationship with Jesus.
My 13-year-old daughter found this book extremely helpful. Instead of reading it from front to back like a novel, we used it more as a handbook. Reading the chapters as she experienced the emotion made it more personal and more effective. With chapter titles such as "When I Feel Annoyed...I'm Free to Choose Thoughts that Please God" and "When I Feel Tempted...I'm Too Valuable for Trouble" it was an easy book to navigate on the Kindle.
This is a wonderful book that would make a nice gift for teen girls. It's an easy read and can be read with a group of friends or alone.
Note: I received a complimentary copy of this book from Moody Publishers through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
My hopes were set pretty high for this title. Overall, this was a good devotional for teen girls. I went through the first part with my 13 year old daughter and she really enjoyed it. It’s definitely written to a much younger audience than my 38 year old self and it does a good job at talking at their level.
However, I feel that I need to get my biggest concern with this title out of the way before I go on: At the end of Day 1, Priceless has something very similar to the much recognized “sinner’s prayer.” I really think I would’ve enjoyed this book much more if this part wasn’t in there, since I personally don’t believe in the sinner’s prayer. It takes more than simply saying a prayer to be transformed in Christ and to live your life as His disciple. There’s a lot more I could say here, but it’s not appropriate in this review as it’s not about the book. I liked the layout of Priceless and how it addresses so much of what every teenage girl goes through and feels. It lets them know that those feelings are normal, but feelings aren’t necessarily true. And then it shows them the truth in God’s word and helps them to shift their thinking into more positivity.
I loved that it had so many activities to do! My daughter and I wrote prayers together, and it really opened up a lot of discussions about how she feels and the best ways to deal with those feelings. I definitely recommend going through this book with your daughter! It was pretty eye opening.
This is one of the sweetest, meaningful devotionals I have probably ever read. The daily devos are easy to read, engaging, and totally relateable. Each little chapter begins with a feeling and then adds a truth. For example, "When I feel beautiful. . . I'm reflecting God's glory"; "When I feel invisible. . . I'm seen & known"; "When I feel like giving up. . . I'm about to be rescued" (and so on). Through the trials and joys of her own life, author Jen Barrick pulls experience and humor into each devo, effectively getting down to the level of each girl and whatever fear they face. She stresses that when we have those days of not feeling enough, God's enough-ness more than covers us.
Jen's story in itself is a work of love & miracles. She had prayed for God to grant her a boldness, but little did she know He would answer that prayer through the trials of a severe car accident & brain injury. What a testimony! and a challenge to live out loud the Hope we have in Christ.
This devotional is a beautiful and simple way to teach girls & teens how to study Scripture AND put it to work in their own lives.

As a middle school girls small group leader, I found it hard to find a devotional for my girls that was honest about the struggles and emotions that come along with being a young teenage girl. Priceless has accomplished so much in capturing the mind of a teenage girl. An wonderful book for girls ages 10-15, helping them match their emotions to God’s truth. In this 30-day interactive devotional journey through the Psalms, girls can connect emotions from anger to feeling misunderstood to excitement. Jen captures 30 common emotions and uses the Psalms as a baseline to speak the truth and love of God. Throughout the book Jen reminds girls that no matter what they feel or experience, they are priceless in the eyes of God. Priceless is great for small groups or study by self. Overall this is a must read for middle school girls!
This is a devotional that every teenage girl needs to read. I love how she wrote from her heart. Thank you NetGalley and Moody Publishers for an ARC copy of this book. This is my honest opinion of this book. I loved it!
I really enjoyed this devotional! It’s filled with great reminders of who we really are even when we don’t feel confident, pretty, or cool enough. I think it’s a great one that all girlies should read. Also Jen’s story is so amazing!
