Buckley, who has founded a company called Shoreline Publishing Group to produce books for reluctant readers, maintains that sports are far more than simple hobbies or ways to burn off excess energy.
Do you like sports of most any kind? Do you follow sports records? Can you cite the top 10 stats in the NCAA, MLB, NFL, or WNBA? If sports trivia is your fancy, then you might like to read The Year in Sports 2019. This information rich book can tell you about the top 10 moments in sports, the who’s who among college and professional athletes, and fun facts about nearly every sport you can think of, and the winners and losers in them. From baseball, to Nascar and motor sports, to golf, gymnastics, horse racing, Olympic hopefuls, and many action sports like mountain biking and snowboarding, this book provides a full menu of sports highlights.
I liked the short descriptions and variety of information and photos. I also enjoyed reading about many sports I did not even know existed, like the women’s skateboard street at the Summer X Games, held for the first time in Minneapolis, MN in 2017. This book was packed full of interesting facts without becoming dry. It features many colorful photographs, event schedules and highlights from decades past to the present. Do you want a list of Stanley Cup champions since 1917? You can find it on page 125!
While I am not usually a follower of sports, this was a fun read and made me feel like I learned something new. Even though I had not attended the Olympics at the time, I feel like I still heard the results and saw amazing photography of the event, which is good enough for me. While not as exciting as seeing sports live, the book illustrates the wide variety of amazing athletes and the range of sports there are to participate in.
I give this book four stars and would recommend it for ages six and older. Reviewed by William G, age 10, Mensa of Western Washington
Same problem with 2015 and 2017 holding this back from 5 star status and that's just that they needed a proofreader. Also, I would've liked it if they could've gotten MLL and MLR in there too, but you can't have them all, so I'm not too upset.
If you like stats and sports, this is a perfect book for you. This book shows great facts about the sports. It shows new records that were made. My favorite part of the book was the college football.
