All the Wild Ways

Rate this book

It’s another scorching summer in North Carolina, and Garrett Anderson is the only man who can quench my thirst and ease my fire.

The Garrett I grew up with was my best friend’s older brother, first string fullback of the football team, and the one guy I could confide in.

But ten years ago, tragedy struck at Lake Carson and flipped both our worlds upside down. I recovered the best I knew how, but that dark afternoon changed Garrett.

Now he’s irreverent, emotionally distant, and stubborn.

We’ve shared a few casual nights together, but nothing more. He still craves me, I know he does. The electricity racing through my bones whenever he’s around is so jarring that I know it tortures him, too.

I’m not supposed to want him. He hates me for denying that I ever desired him to begin with. But if he won’t open up to me and let me inside that head of his, I’m done.

Every time I see him, it’s pure tension. There’s something about that torturous look in the green of his eyes and the sultry smirk on his harsh lips that keeps drawing me back for more.

With the shared pain from our past resurfacing, will he open himself up long enough to let me in for good? Or will that dreadful afternoon at Lake Carson have sealed our fate for life?

This is a steamy, HEA Friends to Lovers Romance set in Southport, North Carolina.

I was given an ARC copy of this.

Overall I enjoyed this book. I get that they both were grieving but at times they made me mad. I tried to keep telling myself that everybody grieves differently. They just didn't handle things in a good way. I'm just thankful that they got everything figured out in the end.

A READ THAT REALLY HITS HOME!!!
A well written, easy to follow tale with twists and turns and unexpected surprises that keeps your attention from the first page and held prisoner untill the last word. A gut wretchin, soul deep, loss of someone so young that it seems impossible to get through. You put one foot in front of the other each day. You grow to love the characters and a few you don't quite understand until their personalities come through. While the connection is strong, soul deep and palpable between the two main characters, a misunderstanding leads one to believe its one sided. They grow closer once they start opening up to one another. Their bond is their saving grace. She has to hit him upside the head a few times but he finally gets it. I have to totally hand it to Caroline, not many would take on this responsibility with such insightful determination to see it through. You brought each scene to life with such realistic detail that I was crying, laughing and hurting right along with the characters. With such remarkably and amazing talent displaying the rollercoaster of such overwhelming emotions brought out the best and the worst in situations like this one.

Tragedy Messes with the Mind
by robbob19

This is an easy read if you want to just sit back, relax with a book that won't keep you in angst or turmoil .... or even second guessing as you turn the pages. I read it in one day. It was more of a friends with benefits storyline which kept the reader wondering why? Yes, the main characters, Rachel and Garrett, grow their relationship to be more lovers and friends, but, it was just hard to connect romance to Garrett and Rachel. Also, Rachel's roommate and best friend surely didn't live up to the best friend title, IMO. She was bitter and destructive.... she hit below the belt, so it was hard for me to understand how Rachel could forgive and forget as easy as she did.

One of the big take aways here is how tragedy and disaster change people. Garrett and Rachel have to work through a tragic death which takes years to accept. As a result, Garrett stays in denial, meaning he won't even try to cope or understand. He can't allow his mind to go there. Rachel has to get help to try to cope and let go. It's interesting watching them walk through the healing process. Each are dealing with the same tragic event but each handle it very differently.

**SPOILERS**

In some ways, this reminds me of the rural version of Nicholas Sparks books as this author wrote this book to be set in North Carolina.

I gave this writer 4 stars because this was a good read. It was a good Friends to Lovers romance about a boy named Garrett and his longtime childhood friend Rachel and their journey together going from friends to more than friends.

What I liked: I liked the fact that it was well written and an interesting and entertaining read.

What I wasn't a fan of: I'm not entirely a fan of New Adult Books, books set in rural America (i can't really identify with it) but once in a while rural scened books will interest me, and I just wasn't a fan of the lead characters' personalities. The main characters were good people and kind, but they wouldn't be people I would be friends with. Typically when I read a book, if its really good I end up imagining myself in it as the female lead or I am drawn into it like a 3rd party observer but I didn't feel like that this time around. I didn't feel drawn to the plight of the characters.

I didn't feel bad for them, I didn't feel like cheering their potential love on...I just didn't identify them.

BUT I repeat, this was a good book and a great read. I just wasn't a fan of certain aspects.

Guilt can do strange things to a person, even when you are not directly responsible for an unfortunate event. Garrett is dealing with the death of his sister as best he can, taking care of the golf greens and staying out of everyone’s way. Rachel experiences her own share of the guilt and she is suffering every bit as much as Garrett. They have always had a connection, ever since he wiped her eyes and shared his Skittles. However, as adults their sporadic interaction is electric and wild in every way. Unfortunately they also have to navigate overbearing parents and friends who haven’t reached their own emotional maturity, causing yet more pain. This story is sad on so many levels and left me feeling a bit melancholic. The flow of language and the plot were good and I was glad that it came to a happy ending. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.

All the Wild Ways was a pleasant enough read. I enjoyed interaction and tension between Rachel and Garrett. They have known each other forever in their town. It seems they have a love-hate relationship. Rachel has tried every trick in the book to try to get Garrett to take over her father's brewery. Her father seems to love tasking her with trying to get Garrett to sign on. Garrett loves his job on the golf course. Rachel is a vet tech who wants to become a veterinarian. Garrett realizes he really wants to be with Rachel. He'll even take on the brewery. However, Rachel is ready to go off to vet school. It is fun to see how it works out. I enjoyed the book, but not captured by the characters so I'll take off one star. You too can enjoy the book.

I love the overall of the story. I love how both of them had a same past and always been there to heal each others wound.

Death is something that will happen to every single one of us. And dealting with death alone is a lonely path.

There are times that we are allowed to feel the sadness of losing someone but shutting out the people who cares about you should not be an option. Everyone carry our loses a different way but you should not be alone. The world is full people. We are created to be surrounded by others.

I was so stunned by the way Rachel was. She is a lot like who I used to be. I love her heart but hate that she lets others feeling overpower her own. Garrett is quite the character. I love the he challenges Rachel and makes her feel what she otherwise would miss out on if she stayed in denial. I love the energy between them. I could smack Garrett for what he did to her the night of the memorial. But I can also understand why he did it. I'm upset it took him so long to realize he screwed up but love how he went about correcting it! I love this book! Cant wait to see where this series goes!!

I will not restate the plot nor reveal any spoilers in this review.
Never having read anything by Caroline Tate, All the Wild Ways was an unexpected gem. It is a sweet romance that speaks to the heart. The H and h are characters that you love, appreciating the honesty of their feelings for each other, although the H hides his feelings behind a mask . Each deals with a tragic event from their past, often letting their pain dictate their actions. This novella has a genuineness to the characters and you root for them to find that HEA ending.

My review is 3.8 stars.

This book is good, but I little bit missed the wow factor, otherwise, I must have rated this above 4 stars. The characters of the story were good and engaging. The chemistry between the lead characters was awesome. The pace of the story was good. The plot was awesome. Some of the characters were just increasing the confusion, else, the all the characters did fair justice.

I would like to say one thing about the book, it's full of romance & feelings.

I would recommend this book.

I enjoyed this story. I did think Kate could have been a better friend. When she was hurt & angry she acted like she was still in middle school spreading stories whether true or not about Rachel. I understand they were dealing with a lot of pain, too bad all of them didn't get the help they needed at the time of the tragedy. And, what was Franklin's problem? Good read with a nice HEA. Yes, I recommend this book.

All the Wild Ways opens with childhood friends Rachel and Garrett discussing her father's offer for Garrett that he wants nothing to do with. There is a lot of tension between them that neither wants to acknowledge.

An emotional read centering around a tragedy and its life altering effects. Two friends dealing with grief in their own way, losing their connection and finding their way back. Garrett can't open his heart and Rachel won't settle for scraps. Their journey to love is not easy.

A poignant story of loss, lust… and love. Once I started reading the book, I was so enthralled by the story, I was not able to put it down until I finished! The story was well written, with good character development.

Caroline Tate did a wonderful job describing how shared pain, from ten years in the past, can be internalized and expressed so differently by the main characters, Rachel and Garrett, and her roommate Kate. However, it did not feel like a romance novel. It wasn't angsty or comedic. It wasn't kind and loving. His degree of pain never allowed it. At times, it felt like Rachel was a doormat being used by both Garrett and Kate. It definitely was a friends with benefits story with some lusty moments, but I kept waiting for just a little more love.

3/5

I really enjoyed this book to a certain point. It started off amazing but to me the ending seemed rushed and was actually quite anticlimactic and I just sat, thinking, “oh is that it?”. And I didn’t like any of the secondary characters at all. They were horrible and held no appeal.

But as I said above, the beginning was really good and was written perfectly.

Wild Ways by Caroline Tate

This was a well written story about love hurt and self guilt. You have to face your problems in order to heal. Garrett and Rachel have to face obstacles to find this. Enjoyed so much.

I liked the story but not how the characters evolved in their grieving, I thought it was taken a bit too lightly.

Great cover. Decent premise. For me, there wasn't enough tension, and forced "conflict" that seemed only to draw the story out, and then wrapped up quickly and sweetly. Book ends at 80 % and is followed by a novella. I couldn't be bothered reading it after my lukewarm experience of the title novella.
