This is the first book I read by Vivienne Savage, but it definitely won’t be the last!
📚 As a Reverse Harem fan I was intrigued 📚 As a fan of anything related to the Greek mythology I had my doubts 📚 As a reader I fell in love
Esme seems like your average college student who just got out of a relationship with her douche ex-boyfriend, Daniel, she lives with her BFF Marie, all in all her life is very ordinary. Or it was, right until prince Charming of the college asks her out on a date. Like that’s not enough she’s also being pursued by a ravishing motorcycle bad-boy, and a well renowned artist. After Esme is attacked by a hell hound she learns the truth about the three men. Meet:
Hephaestus aka Alex Ares aka Beau Hermes aka Luke
These three gods seem to believe that Esme is the reincarnation of the mortal Aphrodite. Back in the days Aphrodite apparently became fed up with the men and their squabbles, so she decided to give up her divinity and become mortal to get away from it all. The three gods have learned their lesson and this time around, they’re prefer to share instead of living any longer without her in their lives.
One woman. Three Greek gods. Dive into a captivating, action-packed reverse harem romance about an ordinary girl becoming extraordinary.
Even as I’m reading my own summary of the book I don’t feel like I’m doing it justice! But I find it really hard to make an interesting summary, without giving too much away, because as they say: the devil is in the detail, which is definitely the case here. I didn’t really have any high expectations of Divine Ambrosia because I find that as much as I love Reverse Harem books, they don’t often mix well with my love for mythology. On top of that, I did think that the cover was a bit “meh” but it seems that 2018 is the year I need to shake my book-cover judging tendencies. Yes, I know how the quote goes “never judge a book by its cover” but that’s easier said than done.
I absolutely love this well paced and sexy venture into the old myths of the Greek gods. With Vivienne’s skilful merge of old and new, she’s created such a brilliant, fun, sexy and sweet story. On top of that I found Vivienne’s take on things to be amazingly unique, and I really like what she has created. Not just the plot but also the characters – all of them. Often, I find that authors can end up forgetting about the secondary characters, but I always feel that they’re too important to just put to one side. There’s a reason they’re included in the story and for the most part, I think that Vivienne managed to keep hers interesting and relevant. Of the secondary characters I think my personal favourites was Aphrodite and Ares’ divine kids, Deimos and Phobos – for the gods of fear and panic, they definitely stood out and I’m impressed with how Vivienne portrayed them.
Personally, I think that what I enjoyed the most was Esme. Sure, she’s the goddess of love but Vivienne gave a her so many extra layers than the conceited and superficial love Aphrodite is known for. With all those extra layers Esme’s love seems so pure and sincere, which makes this an even better read!
I can’t recommend this book enough, not only reverse harem fans but also for mythology romance fans, who don’t mind some sexy times.
This is the first time I’ve read anything by Savage, and what can I say; I am literally blown away.
I wasn’t sure what to expect from Divine Ambrosia. The cover is nice and the synopsis is appealing enough that I purchased the book, but neither do the tale within any justice. Savage has taken Greek myths and woven them into a modern tale of love, magic, jealousy and friendship. Expertly written, and clearly well researched; Savage has delivered something that I cannot find fault in.
Divine Ambrosia is unlike anything I have read before. Yes it plays on myths that are becoming popular in modern authors. And yes, this is a genre that is quickly expanding and exploding across the ebook platform. But, the story and plot itself is entirely unique. I was worried to begin with that this book would be too YA, it’s not YA at all. It is probably more adult in its maturity than many reverse harem novels. And yes, there is some more heated scenes for all you true RH fans.
I’m a big fan of Greek mythology, however Aphrodite has never been one of my favourite goddess. Saying that, I really connected with Esme and even liked her as Aphrodite. Luke, Alex and Beau were three gods that I’d have in my harem any day. And I absolutely loved that Savage included the children.
I’m a now a fan of Aphrodite, and will try harder in the future to not let any preconceptions I have stop me from trying a new book, as I would hate to miss a gem. If you are anything like me, and are a fan of Greek mythology, the reverse harem genre, and don’t need to be spoon fed every detail, then I highly recommend that you one click this one today.
I really enjoyed this book! It kept me guessing the entire time. The characters were well thought out and I would love a follow up on this book. Love redeems !!
Divine! A wonderfully woven story that blends mythology in modern times with romance and mystery. I really enjoyed the story and the world building. The characters were so unique and entertaining I had a hard time putting this book down. I enjoyed each characters personality and I can’t wait to uncover more about them! The story was fast paced and fun. Definitely sexy and sweet especially with three sexy gods in the mix. The tension and chemistry between them was undeniable.
I highly recommend this book to not only reverse harem fans but also mythology romance fans.
I loved this fast paced, sexy foray into the old myths. How fun of Vivienne to imagine a world where the Greek gods are not only still among us, but have adapted to the changing times (unlike *some* dieties, LOL) and are up for a good old-fashioned romp.
The three gods were each characterized as distinctly different, very real hotties. Esme's struggle with their assumption of her identity is well paced. And the element of danger was just right to pepper the storyline with suspense.
I half-wanted to title this review with "Esme is such a whore... And I'm jealous!" Some people may freak out that this is (another) polyamorous storyline, but Vivienne has proven she can handle the reverse harem with a deft hand, making me wonder if an arrangement like this would work in real life. In general, I'd have said no, but this almost has me convinced. It would just require three gods. LOL
Put your pearls aside, ladies. Our heroine has sexy, hot, but still sweet intimate scenes with more than one man. And I wouldn't have had it any other way.
Well, this story was enjoyable, but there were a few places that didn't make sense or didn't work well for the story, and a few places that didn't flow well. It did hold my attention, and I did like Esme & the 3 guys-Hephaestus aka Alex, Ares aka Beau, Hermes aka Luke. I felt that the 3 guys could have used more character development than they got in this book. I also got a bit confused when switching back and forth between names from there Greek God names to there current aka name. It was hard to keep up as a whole, which hurt my reading enjoyment. I also didn't really get the RH feeling, as a total unit. They seemed to keep separate dates with Esme, with limited group interactions as a group- like the guys were hard pressed to be together with Esme at the same time. I realize that they were all rivals in her previous Goddess life, but I wanted more of a cohesive unit for Esme's sake, & not in a sexual way. The ending was set up that a reader can feel it has a HEA & won't need to continue, or if they want to read more in the series, they can. I personally wasn't invested enough to want to continue with the series.
Loved it! I read it all in one sitting and I loved Esme and her gods. I loved that Heph, Ares, and Hermes were all working together and not fighting over her, that they realized that how they acted centuries ago was wrong. I also really liked how Esme was such a kind and forgiving person and that she tried to make amends for some of the things her former self had done and helped some of the other gods. Overall.. really good book and I can't wait to see what happens next. A certain someone needs to get their a** kicked. Bring on the next book.
As someone who is a fan of Vivienne Savage, this book just didn’t live up to my expectations. The characters were so cliched they didn’t feel real. No one talks like that. A character legitimately said “hashtag savage”. I tried to enjoy this book, I really did but I just didn’t like it and the amount of times I had to put it down and think “oh come on!” did not justify me finishing it. If you enjoy unbelievable characters and out of touch dialogue, or just want an easy read with a few eye rolls then this book is for you. (I’m sorry, I still love your other books!)
I’m not typically one for ménage stories. However, I’ve read so many of Vivienne Savage’s stories that I needed to give this one a solid try. I wasn’t disappointed. Not even a little. This was quite possibly one of the most romantic stories I’ve read in a while. Tension? Check. Romance? Check. Three of the sexiest gods I’ve ever read about? Ch-freaking-eck. But unlike most Romances, I not only fell in love with the hero(es), I fell in love with the heroine. She’s all of us.
Bottom line: read this book. You won’t be disappointed.
A slow start, your typical normal naive girl broken hearted. Cue three guys to get her attention. That part bored me but once the story gets going things get interesting. They might be gods but all three are desperate to reclaim their goddess, leading to misunderhandings. I liked all three guys, they each have their own unique characteristics. Luke and Beau brought in the comedy elements but I felt the main guy was Alex, their relationship was so sweet. Strong character growth. The plot was a little cliche but it was a nice modern take on the Greek gods.
Lighthearted Book I would probably give the book a 3.5 stars... The book started out a little slow for me and rang of your typical broken hearted girl being taunted by her ex boyfriend with his new girl story but luckily it didn't turn out that way. As a matter of fact the ex almost seemed like an afterthought past the first part of the book. Some parts of the story seemed a little rushed. There was slang used a few times that just didn't seem to flow with the rest of the dialog. I know my review doesn't sound very positive but I did enjoy the story enough that I've put the second book on my TBR list even though this book can be read as a standalone.
I enjoyed the storyline and sub-plots, in this lighthearted reverse harem story. I especially appreciated Hephaestus being a character--he is often over-looked in myths, and he's always been a favorite of mine. A fun fast-burn story with some great quirky characters. I didn't care for how fast Esme fell into bed with everyone, but this is expected in a fast-burn RH, I simply prefer more relationship development with each individual. A great series started, with cliffhanger, but not an annoying one.
It's a romance and action fantasy with Greek gods come to life. The book got more interesting the longer I read. Typos: unnecessary comma, reign for rein, missing words, adjective for adverb, and for an, Roman not capitalized, continuity error ("[he] raised his cigar to his lips again" when that was the first time it had been mentioned), factual error ("It's the 20th Century, you know?" No, it's the 21st Century now).
I loved this book. The first in a new series, it doesn't disappoint. The story follows Esme and her loves. It combines greek mythology and modern times flawlessly, taking us on a whirlwind journey of timeless love, adventure, action and mystery. I very much look forward to book 2.
Loved this book. Love the whole idea of Aphrodite reincarnated and becoming a better God because of it. The idea of this book is great, I love the Greek gods and haven't found a book I really enjoy about them in a long time. The first book by Vivienne Savage that I have read and I can't wait to see what is next.
I'll be honest. I was not expecting much from this book, but I was pleasantly surprised. It was complex and the relationships were interesting. I would have loved to see more epic godly powers but maybe next time. There was some sex but nothing to crazy of graphic. I would recommend to anyone.
Esme was a collage student, working and going to school. As luck would have it, she is the reincarnation of a goddess and three gods trying to win her back. Each men have their own way of approaching her and with time, she finds that they have their own unique qualities that she loves about them. Find out what happens when she realizes who they are.
I loved how the characters were flawed and the heroine had to come to terms with her past. Even though Greek mythology isn't my favorite, I still really enjoyed the book.
I liked this book! It was a sweet story that you will enjoy if you like Greek mythology. There was a lot of reference to the myths, but a bit of reworking to them! Very interesting take on this. I enjoyed it
I couldn't stop reading. I want more! Will the new book feature Esme and her boys, or someone new? Either way I would read the next installment. Great fast read that kept me thoroughly entertained for the whole book.
Very sweet, hot and entertaining. Could not put it down. Esme or Aphrodite, is relearning how to become the goddess she relinquished, after being human for many lives. With the help of her 3 lovers, Alex, Beau and Luke.
I truly enjoyed Divine Ambrosia. Ms. Savage's romp through Greek mythology as updated to the current day is filled with humor, action and just a touch of hot sex. Lots of fun and well worth a read.
Please, please tell me there's more to this. I'm so surprised with how much I fell for each character. I also found myself laughing out loud during some parts. I will definitely be recommending this to my friends. More please!
Once I brushed up on Greek Gods and Goddesses, the book flowed better. Took a little while to get used to their real names and mortal names. Was expecting a different ending, but look forward to the continuing story arc.
I enjoyed the fresh take on Greek Gods and Goddess, this was a good mix of history and modern day. Love seeing the gods finally seem to learn from all of the mistakes they made in the past.
I won't lie, I was worried about reading a reverse harem book. I'm not into the whole harem thing but, I literally couldn't but the book down. I missed out on sleep for this book. it was amazing. I literally can't wait for the 2nd book. This book was very well written and I have a new book crush!
It was a little slow at first, but picked up speed as it got further in the story. It turned into a fun, lighthearted read. Glad Esme found her way back.
‘Reversed harem’ yep that got me to read outside my normal genre. This is a fantasy story that made me smile. I love Greek mythology as well. I did not need to have a vocabulary lesson to understand the content.
