Rugby star Magnus Scotswolf is a player in more ways than one. He's the most eligible wolf in Scotland, but now he needs an heir—and fast—if he wants to hang on to his title as King of the Scottish Wolves. He’s already decided Tara, his new sister-in-law’s best friend, will be his lucky queen. But there’s just one snag…she feckin' hates him.
Lone city wolf Tara Hamilton has ZERO desire to serve as an incubator for the ridiculously arrogant Scottish Alpha King…or have anything to do with his backwater kingdom village. Tara values three things above all else: her freedom, her life among humans in Edinburgh, and her fabulous wardrobe. No way is she giving all that up for an entitled a-hole with a hit-it-and-quit-it list at least a kilometer long.
Tara’s human understands she will never, ever let the annoyingly handsome alpha anywhere near her. But there’s just one snag…her wolf hooked up with Magnus’s wolf during the last full moon when neither of their humans was looking.
Now…Tara is pregnant with the Scottish king’s baby.
What will Magnus do when he realizes the hostile city she-wolf is carrying his bairn…and discovers the HUGE secret about her hidden past?

This is my first book by this author. I loved the premise of a Werewolf King, Magnus, needing an heir and a she-wolf who just wants to live her life in peace. Her wolf has different ideas.
There are lots of traditions and ingrained practices that Tara wants to change and she doesn't think Magnus will be up for that. She escaped an arranged mating before and she doesn't want to be forced into anything now that she's made her life in the human world.
The struggle was humorous at points, especially when her wolf knows she's found her mate but watching it all play out was fun.
Note on the audio: since I am reviewing that for the audio content, I will say that the female narrator made kind of a mess of the Scottish accent. I don't know what accent she was giving Magnus... but it wasn't Scottish and it was in contrast to the male narrator having just the smoothest brogue ever.
AGAIN ANOTHER VERY FUNNY, ELECTRIC AND WONDERFUL SEXY STORY TT!!!!!!!!
Theodora Taylor's "Her Scottish King" was another winner for me... but oh no, it did end in an undeniably, dreaded CLIFFHANGER ---URGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Moving right along, this was Magnus Scotswolf and Tara Hamilton's story who were both introduced in "Her Scottish Wolf" with Millicent (Tara's bff) and broody, Iain. Opposites most definitely attracts with this electric couple but then too that was what made them so engaging, so memorable, so funny and downright perfect for one another!
Hero, Magnus has some plans with his cocky and bossy self! Heroine and city wolf Tara, I just loved her feisty, independent nature! Magnus wanted what he wanted and what he wanted was Tara... to be his rightful queen so he could remain King and of course he needed an heir... like NOW! Sassy Tara has so basic directives: her independence, her relationship among the human folks in Edinburgh and her fantastic wardrobe --in that order no doubt! So "no way is she giving all that up for an entitled a-hole with a hit-it-and-quit-it list at least a kilometer long" pregnant and all until... that's enough... Read this engrossing page- turner and see this strong-willed couple in action !
Can't wait for book 2 of this couple's story... that ending was so TT!
Quite different from the first book in good ways. And more than one twist I did not see coming. Magnus is not exactly likable most of the time. He's really cocky and demanding. I know part of it is being an alpha werewolf and a famous Scottish rugby player. He didn't take Tara's rejection well, sure that they are fated as mates, and not able to understand she is running from their bond. I liked that Tara did have a legitimate reason for not wanting to mate with Magnus, and the reveal is really fascinating. Tara has a lot of layers to her that Magnus had to work to develop. It was good, though. He was used to getting everything he wanted easily. But that's how it works with your mate. While that bond is fated, that doesn't mean that your mate is not worth any effort and emotional commitment. And Magnus had to decide if his pride was worth more than losing his mate (ironically his father faced the same choice).
I liked that this wasn't a predictable book. Werewolf romance has some formula to it (as much as I love it), but Taylor did a good job of keeping things innovative.
It's not a five star because I didn't love Magnus. I really liked Tara a lot and she had a lot of dimensionality and strength to her, beautifully complex.
Really Theodora?! You're just going to leave us hanging! This story had me on the edge of my seat. I seriously hope Her Scottish Warrior is released soon. In the meantime, you can enjoy:
Her Scottish Wolf (Iain & Milly) Her Scottish King (Magnus & Tara) Her Scottish Warrior (? & Naomi?) - Coming Soon
Totally biased review: Tara and Magnus took me by huge surprise and kind of messed with my planned writing schedule, but it was a delight to spend time with them. And I can't wait to visit with them again in HER SCOTTISH WARRIOR.
Book crack, I’m telling you! Theodora is a new to me author, but damn. She is brilliant, hilarious and sexy in her writing skills. These wolves beat all I’ve read in a while. Onto the next!!
While the actual mechanics of how the sex in this shifter world work (for werewolves) is pretty sexy and overwhelming, I’m not crazy about the coercive feel of what happens throughout the book to the heroine. And then we’re supposed to feel bad (somehow) for the hero, who up until the last bit, has come across as an entitled jerkhole with true personality problems. But hey, at least he didn’t make his prospective mate arrange his one-night stands for him, right? (As in the previous book)
And then the heroine has to go off and solve his problems for him. I’m just...the sexual politics are kind of messed up, and not in a good way.
The writing is good, and I like that the heroine is biracial and from a not often delved into subculture in the US. The book ends on a cliff-hanger, as did the first book; it’s not the typical Howls Romance structure, so I’m wondering if this is a “new” thing for the imprint.
I considered DNF-ing this when, about 5 pages in, the supposed love interest made an extremely unnecessary anti indigenous remark. Tara talks about how she shifts by tying herself to a tree the way Native American wolves do (idk how I feel about that by the way) and then Magnus, our supposed love interest, says people like him took over Canada so, she shouldn’t follow native methods. BIG YIKES.
The story also takes a really, really big turn about 1/3 in where the main character just stops having a personality and all the bite to her and rightful indignation she has completely vanishes. Like the writer wanted this to feel like an enemies to lovers story but didn’t know how to write the transition well.
Tara is a werewolf who’s wolf shifts and mates with the aforementioned asshole, Magnus, without the human’s say so. And there was a lot of “my human” and “my wolf” or, worst of all, “my shewolf” throughout this story so it felt like 50 Shades with the inner goddess cringe. Anyway, she mates with Magnus’ wolf and gets pregnant so, by really backwards and misogynistic Scottish wolf tradition, they’re to be mated for life. Tara hates this because she’s a modern thinking wolf and she hates Magnus and doesn’t want to live in his backwards village… allegedly. We’ll get to that.
So, she starts out really against moving because the Scottish wolves live like its the stone ages - no technology, women are basically just broodmares and men make all the choices. Magnus enforces this mindset because his modern thinking mother divorced his father and that was a huge scandal because wolves don't get divorced. Sure.
He allegedly agrees to try living in the city with Tara and I got incredibly confused as to how much time passed in this book. The thing that apparently makes Tara get over how unwanted this connection was (at least for her human) was heat sex (okay) and a conversation through a door. I kid you not, her entire personality goes away after that. She's suddenly a-okay with the whole being mated and stuck with Magnus for life and, for no reason at all, that means she can't fight him or talk back to anyone being mean to her after that. Despite the big thing about her meeting with Magnus being she punched him in the face.
The Scottish wolves have a low birth rate issue. Suddenly, Tara cares enough about the pack that basically set her up for rape, and decides she must fly to them and tell them set up a mail order bride system. It involves looping in Magnus' mother who's an awful Italian stereotype (also Lachlan calls her family mafia wolves... yikes). There's a really stupid argument with Magnus and there's NO TIME to tell him why she must go. Okay... Anyway, she flies home to the Amish/mormon type sect of wolves and sets up a system so the adults can continue pressuring young girls into marrying and having babies forever. Yay.
*sigh* There's nothing for me to like here. I'm sorry. Everyone felt like a weird stereotype or caricature of their culture. You know, except the Canadians. The werewolf system was incredibly misogynistic and heteronormative. They speak of lore like women only mate men - so there's no queer wolves. They only seemed to refer to men as alphas or betas, so do women not get a ranking? Tara can apparently smell that she's having twins because she smells super pregnant. You'd think the solution to the misogynistic system Tara was forced into as a kid would be to end the system in its entirety. If women want to have children, they can choose their mate. Instead, because they fear dying out (even though you can change people...), they push forced birth practices and that's just fucking sinister. Tara doesn't fix this - she just reorganizes it. Guess her old fashioned solution works because she ends up being his queen and giving up the life she apparently was so keen on continuing.
So, not that I went into a book about a werewolf mating expecting it to be feminist. I just didn't think it'd make me feel like Ted Cruz might love the morality in it. I also certainly didn't expect it to be racist, but here we are.

Her Scottish King is Tara and Magnus's story whom we first met in Her Scottish Wolf. These two seem to be total opposites and couldn't seem to be in the same room without tempers flaring and objects being thrown. Who would have thought that all that animosity would lead to undeniable attraction and unending passions between these two. Magnus and Tara are an exposive couple in and out of bed, which sometimes made for disagreements that always ended with hot and heavy make out sessions. I loved these two as a couple and enjoyed hearing form Iain and Milly again. I can't wait for the next installment.
Another great read, and a surprise to get Tara and Magnus' story. These two are forces to be reckoned with and the passion heats up the pages. As Tara is an independent woman who has fought hard to live the life she's earned to make her choices. But all that gets blown out the window when during a full moon shift Tara's wolf mates wolf mates with Magnus. And Magnus has tried to charm the unrelenting Tara, but after that night all bets are off and he intends on claiming her as his queen. And with this interesting cliffhanger we have to see that more is in store.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed is story but I just wasn't too keen on how immediately Tara fell into giving up the job and life she loved, to return back to a similar pack situation that she had fought to get away from. I know she and Magnus needed to understand each other and make concessions, but he hadn't exactly conceded to much in the way of their relationship.
I read this with audio, and the female narrator was very terrible when it came to the Scottish accents it was absolutely it hurt my ears to listen to her. The male narrator was fabulous. She would just do better if you’re stuck with non-Scottish accents, I think that’s why I gave this one a 3.5 star out of 5
Such a fascinating read, the characters where very colorful and full of life. I screamed at the end, didn't expect a twist , love the overall book .But not spoiling the story but message to the author Theodora Taylor , the is no such thing as a african accent , p.s am from "africa". For future reference please specify like America, we also have nigerian accents , ghanian accents and malawian accents we are countries not a continent. And p.s the is also strong wifi in kenya even at a game lodge . Please do not culture appropriate as am a huge fan of your work, since they still hold an element of nonfiction....
Can not wait for scottish warrior !! Much love from 'Africa'
Thought Magnus was going to be like Rafe for a second there (and if you've been with me as I make my way through all of TT's books, you know Rafe is the love interest I hate the most), but he's truly better. Hot, alpha, jerk-ish but that comes with responsibility I suppose, but willing to change. Tara was just wonderful and I could relate on a personal level. Fighting for your right to live your life the way you want is something very hard to give up.
This was the second story in what is clearly going to be a trilogy and it ended on a cliffhanger. As such, it was a more fleshed out story than Milly and Iain's, but I still prefer the first story. Something about Milly's innocence and Iain's intentions to love her from afar as well as pine for her is endearing.
I really enjoyed this book. It was funny and I enjoyed how the MC’s relationship developed, I didn’t see the twist coming and it definitely threw me for a loop. I love Theodora Taylor’s writing and I loved reading this werewolf romance with a twist!
I went into this thinking it was going to be a Scottish Rugby Romance but I got werewolf romance instead. This is not my normal type of genre.
Magnus is this big alpha who is a total playboy. To keep the title of the King of the Wolves, he needs a partner. He decides Tara, his sister-in-law’s bestie will do. Probably is, she hates him. The banter and the commentary between them was pretty hysterical.
One night in a full moon, the two end up together. And when she wakes up, she instantly knows she’s pregnant.
It was hard for me to get into the story just because of the shifting to wolves. I did like the whole having to go from being in a tech world in Canada back to the slow pace in Scotland. It was easy to picture the country and who doesn’t want to see a hot alpha in a Kilt!? 🫠
I listened to this on audio and I had to slow down my normal speed to understand the narrators. The MMC narrator sold the character of Magnus but the FMC narrator for Tara was a little forced for me.
Tara Hamilton is a Canadian shifter spitfire who loves her tech job, bold fashion, and her freedom while being a long way from home in Scotland. Best friend of Milly, who has her own fun love story with "Her Scottish Wolf," she's just trying to make it through life while her BFF is on her babymoon. Unfortunately for Tara, Milly's arrogant brother-in-law Magnus has her on edge. From the moment she first punched him in the face, she's done her best to avoid him since. Magnus, however, likes what he sees with Tara and wants more. A lot more.
Tara and Magnus are two very stubborn individuals. Both have their [good] reasons about why they're each so intransigent about their beliefs and what they want from life. While Magnus very obviously embraces his desire for Tara from jump, it takes a lot more convincing for Tara. And what a ride that is for Magnus. Sometimes it's not just about love itself but one's way of life and beliefs compatible. Communication is key, as the book proves with the steps and missteps the two take to find a way to find a way to mesh their present differences in order to have a future. The soul of the story is watching them navigate the potholes to unite as one and I enjoyed that tremendously while reading.
"Her Scottish King" is a very entertaining story. There's more tales to tell considering how this book ends and I can't wait to read what happens next.
Cute ish story. I wasn’t a fan of Tara in book 1 or 3. And while I get that she fought hard for her life & her freedoms from old school pack laws, it just annoys me that she is super aggressive at times when it isn’t needed. 🤷🏻♀️Like throwing punches type of aggressive. 🙄 I just wanted to slap her and get her to calm her tits. 😂💯
She was a bit more likeable in this book. But her reactions were overwhelmingly dramatic and again, just over the top.
Maybe people like that are around irl, but I couldn’t stand to be around someone like that.
And when she eventually becomes queen, she just takes over (as a queen should) and aggressively changes shit.
I get it. The place was ass backwards and in need of changes but she has one shift-full throttle & marching over people. She has zero empathy for others and is full on narcissistic too.
And that type of person isn’t my jam. To read about nor to hang around with irl. 😒
She is exhausting. I honestly don’t see what the MC saw in her character other than the wolves wanting to be together.
It gets worse for Tara in book 3 too. Her narcissism and aggression is over the top.
Sigh. It is what it is. Some book characters you like and some ya don’t. 👌🏼
I didn't care for the hero in book 1, but the writing was exceptionally good so I figured I would give this author a second chance. BIG MISTAKE!!! The book not only ended at 80%, it ended on a CLIFFHANGER!! I knew it was building up to a "problem" but with what I thought was 20% to go, I felt that there was time to resolve it. Nope. The book stopped with no warning of a cliffhanger. Typically, on book 1 I will check comments for a cliffhanger, but I didn't since this was book 2. The only upside of this book was that it was dual POV even if you got 3 times the heroine's perspective.
I really wanted to like this story and for the most part I did. I mean come on...a modern day Scottish king who also happens to be a werewolf and a rugby player. What's not to love, right?
The cliffhanger!
That was a dealbreaker for me and I won't buy a second book when an author does this. But if you like super alpha males, and stubborn heroines and a good cliffhanger...then this book is totally your jam.
I wouldn’t have bothered reading this if I found out it was not a complete story.
The storyline is also odd, really odd. The female lead character, Tara, seems to be out of character in the latter part of the story compared with how she was written early on and in the story about her friend and Magnus’s brother.
Honestly it’s just weird and I wish I hadn’t wasted my time. I’m not likely to read anymore by this author.
This sucks, barely any character depth. They changed mid way a complete 180. And a cliff hanger ending that made no sense. Never going to purchase from this author again.
I knew this would end with a cliffhanger, but lawdhammercy, I was NOT ready!!! So much happened. So many possibilities. I cannot wait to see what happens next!
I'm so happy that there was a book for Tara and Magnus. And boy are you in for a treat.
If you read the first book of this wonderful series you would know why Tara is so against Magnus, and why she widely dislikes him.
And if you did not read the 1st book let me give you a quick rundown.
So Tara's best friend Milly broke into her mate's home, by throwing a rock through the office window. In which Magnus arrives with his whole village, and catches her in the act of breaking and entering. It’s not the fact that they caught them, but the way they caught them. He had several gun pointed at them, and that's just not okay. Especially considering that Milly was pregnant with his younger brother baby. ( Not that he was going to shoot her or have anything bad come to her. But you get the point of several guns pointed at his pregnant sister in law, in a no go, and unacceptable)
Sothey're confronted and then brought to Magnus castle. Magnus makes it known to Tara that he is the king there, and all were subjected to bow to him in greeting first.
Now, Tara really not known for being a submissive, but surprisingly she gives him his bow. Along with a side of punch to his face.
Yes, our sweet Tara, right hook him, to the point that she made Magnus bleed. Which at this point all you want to do, and well in my case I end up doing is cracking up laughing while cheering her on.
Which ends the story of how these two met and why she is more than against wanting to be with him, and becoming his mate.
I love Tara, she is bad to the bone, and ferociously loyal. She will not allow anyone to disrespect her, or the ones she cares about. She takes all her responsibilities seriously and with great care, she is a leader.
Which Magnus not only see's and really wants her, as well as his wolf.
I like the idea that even though their human parts might dislike one another, their wolves know that they're meant to be. And they're sometimes the ones that decides to take it in there own hands.... Well paws, to wolf mate with one another. This is a unique way of getting their other half's on the right path, and making them see that they really do belong together.
I really enjoy that Tara is not like other females in her own town, where they instantly agree with whatever the males say. She fights for her rights, and let it be known that she doesn't care what they say, and if she wants to do it than she will. Not when she is told.
I love the fact that she gives Magnus a challenge, and make him see the error of his ways, and the way of his thinking was not going to fly with her.
But I also love that Mangus also helps Tara understand that he's her mate, and will ALWAYS stand by her side. Never in front or behind her, and they are a team. YES! That is how a relationship of any kind should always be.
Another couple who blew my mind is Mangus parents, they're so hilarious especially his mother. She is a funny Italian who speaks her mind in more ways than one. And will not let anyone shut her down. I was prepare to dislike her since what you read in the 1st book. But also how distraught Magnus was over her leaving in the past. And divorcing his father, he had so much hatred towards her, and when this is explain, you end up having ill feeling for her has well. But that is not the case once I actually get to read about her. She is very funny and I rather enjoy her.
There is so much that happens in this book, and I'm not going to spoil it for future readers, but trust me you WANT to know.
I cannot wait to find out what happen next in this series, esp about Tara's two sisters, and who is to become there mates. I more than interested to find out who is to become her younger sister, Naomi. If you thought Tara was spunky and hilarious than you're going to love her sister.
Behind all those plain dress, there is a spark of a strong independent wolf, with a twist of sarcasm. She just like her second oldest sister, Tara, will not bend to the will of males. In fact it makes a hint of her not wanting to be bother with them. This will be one exciting story, and makes me wonder if she will be with a certain person.
I haven’t read anything paranormal from Theodora Taylor, so I was super excited to receive this ALC from Valentine PR in exchange for an honest review. Her writing style makes it easy to feel like you are in the middle of the story. Her writing is descriptive, easily helping me picture everything. The characters are well-developed and interesting. I love the premise of a werewolf king who is basically masquerading as a rugby player. Definitely makes for a unique storyline. Magnus Scotswolf is a prideful wolf but has a big heart. Especially when it comes to Tara Hamilton. I love stories where a male MC falls first and hard for the female MC. It lets me see a vulnerable side to men that we don’t always get to see in real life. Tara is so quirky and sassy, and I love that about her. Their HEA was a fun one to listen to.
Since I’m reviewing the audiobook version, I must be honest. I would not recommend the audiobook version and suggest reading the book instead. Will Watt was incredible. Magnus is a cocky and demanding alpha, and Will embodied that perfectly. His Scottish brogue was on point. He expertly portrayed every emotion and made the smeggsy times smeggsier. I always enjoy Will’s narration and the way he brings a story and character(s) to life. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same about Lacy Laurel. I feel bad saying that because it’s clear she gave it her all. The attempt at a Scottish accent was poor, unfortunately. I’m not good with accents myself, so I’m not judging. I’m sure it’s not always easy to replicate certain accents. However, for me, that took away from the story. In fairness to the fact that this is an audiobook review, not just a review on the story, I feel I must go down in stars to compensate for that. While the story and Will’s narration are each a 5, I would only give Lacy’s portrayal a 2 in my personal opinion. I do however think she portrayed Tara’s strengths well.
Tara’s a lone wolf that left her pack 10 years ago because of their arranged marriages. She still stays in touch with her parents and younger sister, but her older sister and closest friend was married off before Tara left and was never heard from again. Now that Tara lives among the humans, she has a strong personality, isn’t afraid to speak her mind, gets to work with technology, loves make-up and shopping. When she needs to shift for the full moon, she tells her friends that her “man” named Jacob needs her and she must go running when he calls. Ever since the incident with Ian and Millie, her bestie now knows she’s a shifter but doesn’t know the life she lived with her old pack. Ian convinces her to go to his place in the village (which looks like old Amish country without technology and is male dominated) while they’re away for a year since the media has been hounding her about them. She VERY reluctantly agrees.
One evening while waiting for the full moon to rise so she can run, Magnus appears. Tara still hates Magnus from pointing a fake gun at her pregnant friend and makes sure he knows it. Also, his attention towards her is putting her in the spotlight, and she hates that too. Her wolf recognizes him as her mate but her human refuses. She asks him to leave but he just smiles and says he needs to shift since the full moon is just about here. They shift and the next thing you know, the human is waking in the morning to the two of them cuddled up together. Their wolf forms accepted each other’s mating bond while the humans were out for the count. Tara runs before Magnus wakes only to get home and find out she’s pregnant.
This book is good too!! I can't wait to hear book 3 - please get it to Audible.com soon!
