Phil Price was born in Sutton Coldfield in 1974. He lived in various places in the UK until his family settled in Rednal, a suburb on the outskirts of Birmingham in 1979. Growing up with an older brother and sister, he always flirted with reading, his home always littered with books. Then in 1997, Phil embarked on a travel expedition that took him from Greece to Thailand, via East and Southern Africa. Sitting in dusty bus stations in Kenya, Tanzania and Malawi with Wilbur Smith and James Herbert accompanying him, his imagination was sparked into life. Since those far-off days, he has never been without a book to read.

Phil started toying with the idea of writing a book in 2009. After writing a few short stories, he caught a whiff of an idea in his head. It started to evolve in 2010 until he had enough to begin his writing journey. Marriage and two children came along, with the story being moved to the back burner for periods of time. However, during those periods of writing inactivity, the story continued to manifest until it just needed one thing. To be written down.

The story was littered with places that had influenced Phil's life. From the Lickey Hills in Birmingham to the Amatola Mountains in South Africa, with other many other locations, in-between and far beyond.

The book was finished sometime in 2014, left on his computer until a chance conversation with an author friend made Phil take the bold step to publish his story, Unknown.

From there, Phil’s love for the first book spurred him on, creating The Forsaken Series. A vampire/paranormal/horror saga, set in our world, and others too. His love of horror and all things supernatural, inspired by authors such as King, Herbert and others, helped create the epic series.

After venturing into science fiction with his fourth title, Zoo, he turned to thrillers, with Ashes of Innocence being published in 2020 and His Dark Shadow expected early 2021 and The Retreat in 2023. Returning to his dark roots, Nobody's Son was released in 2025.

Aside from his writing, Phil lives on the edge of a small town in Worcestershire, UK. A wife and two sons keep Phil happily occupied as he steers his way through life, playing the husband, dad, and world creator in equal measure.

Since I didn’t read the first book, I was a bit confused at the beginning of this one. It jumps POVs quite a bit, and it took me a few chapters to get adjusted to this author’s style. This story combines portal fiction with vampire fiction, and there are many stories going on within the story. I like this idea because it shows the characters focused on their own goals and sense of purpose rather than just focusing on the overall quest.

The narration was strong and chilling, perfect for this book.

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

It is so nice to get the second in a series of audiobooks and be excited to listen to the narrator. Hannibal Hills does such a good job with the voices I forget that there's only one of him!

Oh boy what have they gotten themselves into? I really didn't see what happened coming. I love the way this book picks up where the last book left off. The twists and turns kept me completely involved and I spent a lot of time guessing what was going to happen next. I also spent some time shouting at the characters! I think I managed to keep breathing as the book progressed, bit it was difficult at times to remember to breathe. A heads up, don't get too attached to the characters! I really enjoyed listening to this. I hope it carries on as I have to know what happens next.

Wow again!

This is one amazing story with plenty of twists and turns to keep you hooked and not want to put the book down in case you miss something. This book had everything from, horror, love, action, fighting, suspense and the list could go on. Even the raunchy bits keep you going. Looking forward to starting book 3 of the series. Great job and I can only hope to be as good of a writer as you. Well done

Ok so, this book was alright. Nothing more nothing less, it was mediocre at best. And heres why.

This book is very inconsistent, sometimes its great and others it just seems to go on and on. Particularly the main scenes with the (Vampires?) I genuinely prefer the slice of life aspect of this book the most, but some scenes vocusing on the “vampires” are alright, for example Beth and The CEO getting attacked.

The ending was alright, like this book it can be summed up as decent, middle of the pack, which is actually quite annoying as it had a promising start, i can tell the author is talented but he is just writing in the wrong genre.

The Turning is the second book in the forsaken series by author Phil Price, The First book entitled Unknown is based around the Lickey hills where a door opens between words and things come through and run rampant. Jake who is mourning the death of his family gets wrapped up in the supernatural goings on and ends up entering this Unknown place, landing right in the middle of a war that has been brewing for centuries. It changes him and the course of his life forever.
Jump forward Jake is home after surviving the horrors on the other side of the door and has a new wife, a woman he met risking his life, they are happy they are together, they have a child. But happy ever after is not what the fates have in mind for Jake. Something is out for revenge and it will stop at nothing to get what it wants…
I really love this book, even more than the first. I felt the author really found his feet in the story and didn’t hold back. I could feel the confidence he has gained since writing Unknown and it shows in his work.
The story is sinister I felt it had more of a phycological feel to it compared to his prequel, I really felt in this book that I knew Jake; being able to get lost in a book and believe the characters and the world that inhabit is something I look for in a book and I read this book in two days. It was that good.
I didn’t find any plot holds and the story felt a bit smoother than his first book. I got a bit lost with Unknown with the time line but the author seems to have refined his technique which made for a more pleasant read.
In conclusion, I would say this title follows on well from where the first book left off and I wouldn’t recommend it as a standalone a reader needs to have the full story so if you want to read The Turning invest in a copy of Unknown. A well written book with lots of description ant atmosphere.
I give this title 5 stars.

What drew me to this book was the first book in the series. My favorite character in the book is Jake, who is a retired police officer who stumbles into a gateway to another realm. He moves on from a family tragedy with a new soon to be wife and daughter. It all seems like Jake is going to have a happy ending but the vampires have other plans for Jake and his new family. I liked discovering more about the other world and the creatures that it holds. This book kind of leaves you with a cliff hanger and I can’t wait to read the next book.

After reading 'Unknown', the first book in the 'Forsaken Series', I was left wondering how the author could possibly top it, but he has. In the second offering we find our hero, Jake, settled into a new life & feeling on top of the world. That is until his old enemies Eddie & Elias step back through the mythical portal & begin to wreak havoc once again. Phil Price is not just a fantasy author but a brilliant storyteller who transports his reader through each scene with ease. The ending left me desperately wanting the next instalment which in itself is the trademark of a fabulous read.

Oh my God!!! I thought book one was great but this is fantastic, I can honestly say, my heart was in my mouth reading this, , holding my breath as Jake ,,, well I can't say as that would give spoilers, and I don't want to give spoilers.
Once again ,Phil has managed to grip the readers attention, and for me, it was as if, I had never stopped reading, the first book, it blended so well, it was like starting a new chapter, instead of a new book, Roll on book three, There is only one thing, keep a look out for yellow eyes, in the dark of the night,,, or red,,,,,, You have been warned!!!

Audiobook review

Phil Price has given a great follow on with this book.
All the characters (creatures included) are full blown people.
I really like the police officer, can’t comment more on him, & of course the new family is adorable, you can’t help but root for them.
The vampires, they’re in a whole other standard in these books.
I’d love to see this on tv actually I think it would play out really well. A good gripping nail biting story
The narrator does a great job, the voices & nuances just roll along.
Excellent audio & to read.

Loved Every Moment of this Heart-Pounding Epic

From the moment the ice cold, sinister metal buttons belonging to child vampire William turn up on Jake’s doorstep, it’s a given that the peaceful, charmed idyll he’s built in Tintagel with his partner Katherine is going to come crashing down. What isn’t known at the time is the extent and degree of terror, trauma and heart-pounding adventure Jake will be subjected to!

The Turning is book two in the awesome Forsaken Series and it is a tour de force of constant adrenalin. You barely catch a breath before the next scene leaves you reeling and you’re wondering how the heroes will escape. The book has superb pace, and a balance of dark and light, that keeps you awestruck but drenched in hope.

The power of characterisation is author Price’s forte. In Jake, the hero, he has crafted a formidable survivor who has the will, determination and strength of inner being to face such sights that would make a weaker man crumble. What makes The Turning so emotive and powerful is the aspect of family. Family in both the human and vampire contingents. Within Price’s words, the reader feels the pulse of togetherness. The need to stay as one indomitable, indefatigable unit; fortified by family love to weather any storm that hits – and goodness, they hit thick and fast!

Fracturing one part of that family unit leads to instability of the whole and thus, a greater chance of failure. Elias, the lead vampire tries to create the conditions to make those fractures happen in Jake’s family and our hero counters with unwavering fortitude. As is the way with Price’s brilliant storytelling, nothing is ever simple, and twists abound to knife or stake you breathless.

The Turning is unforgiving in its violent exploration of mankind’s most heinous sins. It is rather ironic that some of the most horrific and depraved moments are at the hands of humans rather than vampires. Indeed, one of the creatures, the little demon Tamartan is a selfless fighter, and honorable and trustworthy to the last.

It is unsurprising in a book weaving the finer considerations of dark and light; survival and sacrifice that one of the key characters is of a theological origin. Father Stephen is a troubled man. His faith has been shattered by Jake’s revelations, and you feel, from the instant Jake sought him out in book one Unknown, that this is a man who is possessed. But not with a malevolent spirit but with an obsession to see for himself the world beyond the doorway. Father Stephen was possessed with the inevitable expectation of his future fate.

The Turning illuminated the characters’ dangerous paths, whether driven out of necessity or by some dark curiosity, all the players were shown to be caught up, not able to step off the constantly turning Ferris wheel of 21st Century Earth and almost medieval Heronveld. The existence of the world beyond the door acting like a tractor beam on their souls and minds, pulling them, for good or bad, toward their intended destination. One can feel a sense of blind hope and faith is in operation. A do or die epitomized in each character’s actions. The Turning is less a sci-fi horror story, and more a celebration of family, friendship and home. And what lengths would you go to when those are threatened.

Throughout the book, there is a continual array of visceral imagery that brings the most amazing places to life as if they existed as places you know and have been to. A formidable book that holds the reader in its grasp with a tenacious force and doesn’t release you until the very last chapter. A fantastic story by a unique author – recommended one hundred percent.

Unknown Book One of The Forsaken Series, you meet Jay and how he struggled after losing his loved ones, only to have demons and vampires from other dimensions and eras landing on his doorstep.
The Turning Book 2 of The Forsaken Series flowed beautifully from Unknown Book 1 with the author's incredible writing even more indepth of the characters and the plot. I absolutely loved this book!!
This series is so action packed leaving me on the edge of my seat with so many twists and turns. I felt so in touch with these amazing characters. I believe this series would make a fabulous movie!!
Jake had escaped the paranormal world of demons and vampires starting a new family and a new life. Safe from the supernatural world. So he thought.
Elias and Eddie, vampires, wants Jake and his family. Two of them have Reggan blood flowing through their veins that could help the vampires gain more power in the supernatural world. They kidnap Katherine and her infant child to lure Jake to them.
Father Steven enters into the paranormal world doorways seeking revenge even if it cost him his life. Will he survive or become a half bred?
The Viking-like Cravens eat anything from beast to humans. Trespass onto their land and you will become their delicious feast.
A  mysterious being enters back into the evil world. What is his purpose for returning? Is he friend or foe?
Phil Price is a new author to me. His descriptive writings took me completely by surprise as well as his creative story. I would definitely recommend this series! Brillant!! I can't wait to read the next installment!!
I'm volunteering an honest review for an advance reader's copy.

The Turning (Book 2 Of The Forsaken Series) begins from where Unknown (Book 1) finished. The impeccable writing talents of Phil Price shines through once again in this continuation of a spectacular series.
The book was an intense read from the start, I was gripped from the offset.

Jake is happy. His life has returned to normal and he has a happy family life with his new wife and daughter. He has made a fresh start! Or has he?
Unknown to him, his world is going to come crashing down again. This time he has to go back through the doorway and finish things once and for all! His journey is not straight forward and involves heartache and horrors once more!

I loved this story! It is full of suspense and has enough monsters to keep you awake at night
There is blood and gore, friendships made, romance blossoming and terror lurking around every corner!
Phil Price has a wild imagination and has created a great, intriguing story once again.
I hope Jake's story continues as I am dying to find out the final outcome for him.
I would highly recommend The Turning and Unknown to readers especially readers who love reading about monsters and evil from different worlds and the good guys who do their up most to rid the world of them.

A great mix of characters with a solid plot line that overall makes for an enjoyable and exciting read!
Fantastic! Phil Price is a truly talented story teller

Jake and Katherine are living in a new home and have a new baby girl. Jake's parents have moved closer to him, and they are all hoping to live their lives in peace. The danger and adventures from Lickey Hills and Amatoll Forest are just memories now- or so they think. Unfortunately, Elias is not done with them yet. He comes back to wreak havoc and stir up their lives. Jake has more to lose now than ever, and he is thrust back into the mayhem.

Without spoiling anything, I'll just say that this book was a ride! I felt like the beginning of this story was a bit more stable than that of the first book (Not as much jumping around with characters and time periods.) It's not a mystery - it's a thriller. Since the characters are established, we get a more in depth look at them. The interactions with Jake and his family are just great. We also get to see a few different kinds of people in Amatoll (the Cravens and the evil evil people on an island that even Elias wants to stay away from). The forests have continued to mutate and are now filled with ghosts and wraiths. Jake is more knowledgeable about what needs to be done with the vampires now, but they also know what he is capable of. It's not about Korgan anymore, it's about revenge.

I loved this book, and I can't wait for the last in the series!

The Turning is book two of the Forsaken Series but read well as a stand-alone. I think the reader would gain a little more from the characters by reading book one first, but the story was complete, enjoyable and make full sense.

Jake will stop at nothing to save his wife and baby who are trapped in another dimension, a dimension plagued with evil beings and most notably, vampires. I loved Jake’s strength and determination, and was totally invested in his perilous journey.

I felt tense as the metaphorical ticking clock sped up, pushing this tale into an all or nothing situation - eek! I loved that I, as the reader, firmly rooted for Jake and his father to save the day. There is a book three - if you want to know if all ended well, you’ll have to read book two - haha.

I’d describe The Turning as fantasy-horror. The antagonists were dark and cruel. I felt fearful and tense as Jake stepped through the portal where his big rescue mission began.

Another fab instalment in the Forsaken Series! If you enjoy the fantasy genre and far-away lands through portals leading to mysterious dimensions, then this is your series!

This second book of the series The Turning is a smoother read. The first book Unknown was a explanation of what was to come. Jake is thrown into the fight against the vampires. He has become a hero for his efforts. He meets and defines his love Kathrine. Jake and Kathrine have a baby and hope life will go back to normal. No such luck. Elias is hell bent on revenge for the Jake's involvement in his 'world'.
There still is a vast of characters but you'll have no problem keeping track. I started the book and couldn't put it down. Phil Price is a new author well worth look for. Can't wait for the next book.

The Turning is even better than Unknown!
Phil introduces new worlds, new people and new adventures. He keeps you needing to turn the page to see what happens next.
I am absolutely in love with the characters. I am hooked on their lives, their world's and this story.
The way he write I brings everything to life. You can't help but feel the things they are going through. His writhing is amazing that way, I get lost in them.
I can not wait to find out what happens next.

Here we go again

Even though it was a slow start, it gave way to all the excitement that was in the first book. It was good seeing all the characters brought back together again but heart breaking to see Jake in turmoil. Now I have to read the third book to see how he makes it out of this predicament

Having read the first book, I was eager to see where the story would go next. I was not disappointed. Far from it. Loved the links to Cornwall, along with other places along the way. It also answered lots of questions from the end of the first book. I hope there is a sequel. Loved it.

A decent story poorly written

The concept is interesting but the grammar and word choices made it difficult to read. It took me at longer to read this story than it should have.
