When I visit my young nieces and nephew in Oklahoma, they always ask me to read Captain Underpants books to them. The stories are based on George and Harold, two boys with vivid imaginations and incredible adventures.
The author, Dav Pilkey, suffered from ADHD, dyslexia, and behavioral problems as a child. He spent his time creating comic books. His second grade teacher ripped up the comic books he had drawn and written and told him he couldn’t spend the rest of his life making comic books. Fortunately, he didn’t listen to his teacher.

Steadily I'm making my through this series. Wrath of the Wicked Wedgie Woman was not nearly as good or as funny as the last four books. I think it's because there wasn't enough conflict? It's hard to put my finger on why this one wasn't as good. I just didn't like the main villain I guess. Her main "weapon" was spray starch. It kind of reminded me of Superman and Kryptonite. Although it makes sense why Captain Underpants wouldn't want his underwear starched, it just didn't seem "enough" for me.
I didn't add this tidbit before, but If you haven't read Captain Underpants and you wanted to, you don't have to read them in order. They (George and Harold), do a review of what happened in the last book as a comic book you read within the book. Hopefully you understood that.
Looking forward to many more adventures with George and Harold.

Loved this one just like the others (Read out of order but getting the 4th from the library soon, review coming soon!) If you haven't had the chance to read them, you will find them entertaining even though they are geared towards younger readers. You may even relate to some of the things in the book as you may have done the very same things as a kid. Give this series a read even if it's just for yourself and you don't have children or read them with your children and have some laughs together. Give this series a try.

This review is really regarding my 6yr old son's opinions because I just don't get these gross-out books. I buy them for son because of my sometimes wobbly belief that all reading is good reading (for kids) and I would hate to turn him off to reading by forcing Shakespeare or Chaucer on him to early.
Anyway, he laughed out loud at this one too. It contains all the elements of glee one usually finds in a "Pilkey" such as mean grownups being hypnotized by naughty but well meaning schoolboys and then running in around in their undearwear or turning into evil snake-headed monsters trying to take over the world with robot children who look like our heroes.
It all happens when someone (usually inadvertently) snaps. My son takes great pains to snap now and then and run around warning me about all the impending dangers.
This one was not quite as funny as the others, but I'll have to suffer through them all as we have found a big set of these for a buck each and a consignment shop. Sigh.

After a disappointed 4th book, I was hoping this one would be better, and it was!
And that mostly was because of the ending, it was a really heartwarming and fluffy ending and it made me really happy. It really shows that these 2 boys also have a heart and are willing to forgive someone.
This time the villain is their teacher! Then again, the teachers are already pretty much villains with the harsh way they treat the pupils, but this is different. This teacher will go full villain mode! And it was just brilliant, she makes a perfect villain, and as expected from this series she does something like wedgies. I was not surprised at all when that was one of her powers and her way of battling someone.
The prank they did was a bit over the top, I was worried at how it would end. Even though I didn't agree with how the teacher reacted in the end (wow, girl, violence is never good), I can imagine she is pissed. Then again maybe she should have been the adult and said no at the beginning.
I did love that they changed a whole schedule and no one noticed. The teachers did think something was strange, but didn't care to investigate. :P
We also have a Superman backstory (made up on the spot by our duo) for Captain Underpants when he gets in trouble, and I was just laughing so hard that they went for this instead of trying harder to find what they needed.
Fourth wall breaking is <3 <3. I just love that they are adding it to the story.
As I said a few times, I love the illustrations. I will just keep on saying it, but it fits perfectly with this series!

Hmmmmm.........Nice Book😶 But i have a suggestion, some another dialogue should be in the last Page of the book......There is only 1 dialogue in every book of captain underpants📚 Oh no! Here we go again!this was the dialogue..😑😶

I enjoyed this book because I like Captain Underpants books. I did not like this book because I did not like the part when Wedgie Woman almost took over the world.

A wonderful read from my childhood, one I’d certainly suggest for other youngsters. Whilst it is not my all-time favourite childhood read I can still recall all the details of this one meaning it certainly left a lasting impression upon my young mind.
And isn’t that what we want with children’s books, for them to leave a positive lasting impression?

Another funny installment in Captain Underpants. I do like that comics are shown as creative writing at the end, and this one has TWO comics in it rather than the customary one. Again, juvenile humor but it did make me laugh. A quick fun read for sure.
Also, the spoof of Superman for Captain Underpants backstory was pretty awesome.

I think this book was OK because i like the books of captain underpants I learned that to never hypnotize your teacher because you will get in trouble I would recommend this book to my friends, family and teachers because it is a good book. This book was fiction.

Summary : Captain Underpants and the Wrath Wicked Wedgie Women is about two boys name George and Harold. They end up creating their mean teacher into an evil villain on accident. This villain wants to destroy Captain Underpants by making Robots of George and Harold and tricking the great hero. Wicked Wedgie Women uses both the robots and starch to destroy Captain Underpants. But at the end the Captain Underpants remembers when he was younger he swallowed a ball that protects him from starch . All he has to say are a couple of magic words to get protected from starch and so he does . The Wedgie women gets defeated and Captain Underpants saves the day with help of George and Harold. Overall, I enjoyed reading this book because it brought back many memories of when I was younger and read these books. I think the book was fun to read because it talks about how I viewed school when I was younger. I also enjoyed this book because I was able to connect to George and Harold imaginations.
Illustrations: What made me pick up Captain Underpants books when I was younger were the illustrations. I love how unique they were because the reader can flip a page and make the drawing come to life, literally. The reader can see how Captain Underpants smashes the robots together and it looks as if the reader is watching it on tv. I also notice how the author would change the illustrations from comics to the actual story . The reader can tell when comics were seen it meant a flash back, which I enjoyed because it was easy to understand. The comics illustrations were as if a child drew them, which I thought made it more fun to read. I also love how the author will misspell words on purpose or drew out of the lines, not making perfection a big deal.
The colors the author used were really bright when the story was being told but the soft colors were used with the comics. I liked this because there was a mix of many colors. The text was perfect not too much in both the comics and while the story was being told . There was small paragraphs and of course some words in comics. The paragraphs had many details yet the author kept it small and simple. I saw alliteration being use and onomatopoeia, which I thought was neat.
Grade Level/ Class use : I would use this book to make 3rd and 4th graders make their own comic books. I would also introduce 3rd graders to alliteration and onomatopoeia and make them use it in their comics. I would make 5th graders make their own chapters book using both a mix of comics with a story. Where their would be peer editing and teacher editing.
Strength/ Weakness: The strengths were the different types of illustrations being used with comics and then the reader having to go back to the story. I like the use of onomatopoeia and alliteration because many students can learn from it. I like the colors being used because their bright, catching the readers attention. It’s Banned Books Week, and true to tradition, here’s my summary and review of “Captain Underpants 5: …and the Wrath of the Wicked Wedgie Woman!” Our heroes, Harold and George REALLY don’t like their teacher, the egotistical Ms. Ribble, who has a very terrible disposition and treats all the 4th graders with both disdain and insults. In their typical response, Harold and George fashion a snarky cartoon in which Ms. Ribble is transformed into the Wicked Wedgie Woman, with tentacles growing out of her head which give all the students Wedgies!
After a subsequent, mortifying incident, Ms. Ribble exacts revenge on the lads by giving them undeserved substandard grades. They find their 3-D Hypnotic Ring and attempt to hypnotize her into reinstating their grades and NOT turning into the Wicked Wedgie Woman. Uh-oh! Turns out the Ring has the reverse effect on women, and sure enough, she turns into said Wicked Wedgie Woman! Now, if there were ever a more apropos foe for Captain Underpants, I can’t imagine one better than said Wicked Wedgie Woman! How is he going to defeat said nemesis, especially since she has found that Spray Starch renders Captain Underpants’ powers null and void! How will Harold and George help the Captain to undo the spells and (gasp) render Ms. Ribble un-evil? Gonna haveta read it and find out, laughing all the way.
This particular book was originally written in 2001, but the one I read was from 2018 and was in FULL COLOR! And, of course, we have the usual cartoon stories by the lads (one of which is a sort of “Jor-El” origin story for Captain Underpants, including his being adopted by what is implied to be a gay couple on Earth-Uh-Oh, another reason to be Banned!) and “flip-action” pages, as well as droll references to previous books, pages and chapters by the characters themselves, fun stuff. Kisah kali ini sbg tokoh antagonisnya adalah Miss Ribble. Guru ini sangat mengesalkan mrk pdhl mau pensiun. Duo nakal ini tak pernah kehilangan kreativitas kejahilan mrk. Kali ini mrk menjodohkan Mr. Krupp dgn Miss Ribble. Sayangnya hal ini tak berakhir baik krn akhirnya membuat Miss Ribble dendam kesumat pd duo nakal ini dan membuat mrk gak bisa naik kelas. Duo ini terpaksa menghipnotis guru ini tapi berakhir mjd fatal krn Miss Ribble berubah mjd Wanita Supercapit yg sangat jahat dan mengancam duo ini utk memberitahukan rahasia Kapten Kolor.
Kapten Kolor gak kalah konyolnya. Dia sangat takut pd semprotan kanji yg melemahkan dirinya. Jd duo nakal ini membuat komik baru yg malah jd ky parodi Superman. Singkatnya, Kapten Kolor berhasil mengalahkan Wanita Supercapit ini.
Sbnrnya buku ini makin konyol aja. Ide² imajinasi liar penulisnya memang luar biasa. Tapi memang mengasyikkan membaca seri buku ini.

I picked this book up for my daughter, who really enjoyed the movie. I have a few minutes free, so I decided to give it a quick read.
As a kid's book, this hits all the right targets -- funny, silly, easy to read. The plot is ridiculous, as are the characters, but that's on purpose. There's plenty of self-deprecating humor, breaking of the fourth wall, and reader interactions interspersed with the story itself.
I'd say it's appropriate for kids who can read, of any age. It teaches a lesson or two without being preachy, and it could inspire young readers to use their imaginations.

In my opinion this book was one of the best books I've ever read. The book has a lot of action, and it's a very funny silly book. The main characters are named George, Harold, and Captian Underpants. George and Harold are good guys and they are always so funny. They really make this book an amazing story. Captain Underpants was always the hero in the story's and he would always save the day! I definitely recommend this book. It always makes my day to read a Captain Underpants book!

Read this for my granddaughter’s bookclub. Pretty good story—but I just discovered the author spent elementary school punished in the hallways because he was disruptive in class (ADHD, Dyslexia). He wrote his first Captain Underpants book in second grade and a teacher tore it up! I’ve got a lot of respect for this author.
