Children and their parents will appreciate the antics of Milton, a young panda who is up and about long before his friends and family, and who exhausts himself in his efforts to wake up everyone else.

Kraus has written a simple story that grabs at your heartstrings as Milton the Panda goes through quite the morning. I love the illustration by the Aruegos that have Milton singing up a storm or dancing or watching television. And the colorful scenes of all the animals sleeping and then whirling and finally put back in place are delightfully busy. There's something about the shapes and color that make me feel happy.
This is a really cute story. Although the ending is a bit predictable, the plot leading up to the ending has a twist in it that makes it worth reading. The illustrations are adorable. I recommend this as a read-aloud or to very young readers.
Milton is a panda who is normally awake before any one else is, so there is nothing for him to do when he wakes up. Everybody else is asleep because it is only dawn.
I think that there is lots of repetition in it and lots of rhyme. And he keeps on going to people’s houses to see if anyone is awake but no one is up.
I rate Milton the Early Riser 4 stars. It is best for girls and boys aged 6.
Not a bad picture book. Read this to my niece (3 months). She seemed to like it. I judge on the fact she was quiet and she didn't go to sleep. Nice story. The pictures are all very colourful but could have been more detailed. Putting in a box of childrens books to keep reading to Adelaide as she grows up.
A short little story about a panda who gets up earlier than everyone else. He gets bored waiting for all his friends to get up. But then, a huge wind comes along and makes a jumble out of everyone, so he spends his time straightening everyone out.
Milton the Panda wakes up really early while everyone else is sound asleep. Young listeners will identity with not being sleepy and will appreciate Milton's antics in trying to wake someone / anyone up. The gentle humor and large, colorful illustrations make this a comforting read aloud.
