Grace under pressure was Sarah's hallmark. Smashing antiques in her philandering ex–husband's brokerage firm lobby? Totally out of character. She's always been the one who coped. Who pleased. So how to explain tossing the valuables? And how to explain letting Charlie McNulty ride to the rescue? Charlie hates mess; emotional mess, in particular; and this is a doozy. He can't afford to get involved; not when he's about to make partner and Sarah's ex has a vote. Maybe Charlie can do the chivalrous thing, then get away clean. Great plan...until Sarah; and her kids; work their magic on him. Now, suddenly, he doesn't want to leave.
Ellen wrote much of her first novel in the back of a preschool classroom while she was trying to ease her younger son's separation anxiety. She had agreed to stick around for a day, maybe two. Somehow—the exact chain of events is hazy—one day turned into a full year of scribbling in a notebook on the bench in the corner. Her son is now a completely independent middle school student (phew!), and that book became her first sale to Harlequin Books.
Ellen and her husband are both from Scranton, Pennsylvania. They met on a blind date on New Year's Eve in a mutual love-at-first-sight moment—which would make an awesome novel, if only her husband would agree to be "fictionalized." Find Ellen on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Ellen-H...

My Review : I loved it ! Read it non stop in one day. OMG!!!! This is a first read by this author but im next search of more books by her as I write this review. The story blew me away from the first page and I hated to put my book down for even a minute. The plot was good and the writing flowed in an easy manner and kept the reader interested. .if you're like me, a hopeless romantic, you will love this book! I literally could not stop reading. Fabulous story by a wonderful author, I am very excited to see more of her work in the future!
This was an adorable book. It's a "getting over divorce from a jerk" story with a side of a hero who wants his life more in the lifeless category. He wants everything under control without any drama. The heroine has been coming in second her whole life, twisting herself into a pretzel to conform to what others want, and now that the "cheating SOB" is gone, she's decided never to do that anymore. There are cute, playful scenes, witty banter, two adorable kids, and it's just a great, fun, yet heart tugging read. I liked it a lot.
The love story in this book is as much between Sarah and her children as it is between Sarah and her man Charlie. A fun and feisty romance which reminds us that no matter how insignificant we feel, no matter how many times we "come in second," we're always in First Place with those who love us. And vice versa!
I'd started it this past weekend and was engaged with the opening scene. What a perfect introduction. Smart heroine, fast and funny prose. I loved it! Took it into the tub last night and stayed up to midnight to finish. Charlie was hot. Vegas night sex was hot. Second sex was hot. Did I say I loved it?!
I liked it but not as much as I expected to or wanted to. (Especially as I read it because I'd seen it mentioned somewhere.) The plot was fine but I felt distant from all of the characters, I couldn't connect or really care about them.
