Minatra continues the fine tradition of historic fiction that made The Tapestry such a success, with the spellbinding story of the Alcott family. After young Andy Alcott, a mate on a British merchant vessel, is badly injured during a brawl in New Orleans, he spends months recuperating at the home of his great uncle--and finds himself falling in love with his host's young wife.
Starting this book out after finishing "The Tapestry". I expected that the one book would lean into the next book, but that wasn't the case. It like skipped a generation and I was lost for awhile. However it finally straightened on out and was a great read after that.
I liked this book, but not as much as I liked the other two books in the series. It was a lot slower and not as exciting. When it finally did get pretty exciting, and made me really want to read more, the book was over in two chapters. I did enjoy the complexity of the relationships and watching the characters grow and mature. My review on the series is on my review for "The Heirloom".
