The Duke's Daughters #2

My Restless Earl

Rate this book
Introducing “My Restless Earl” - The Second Standalone story in the Duke’s Daughter’s Series Jessica Seaworth is the impulsive, playful and free-spirited daughter of the Duke. If she had her way, the free life she has lived at her father's country estate in Westbrook would be all she would ever know. But with her father confessing he is not long for the world and declaring his wishes that he see his daughters all be wed, Jessica must reevaluate her future. Now with Jessica's serious older sister Amelia wed, Jessica is left with the pressure to be next. She hates the thought of marriage though, and worse still is the man everyone seems to be pushing her towards. George Eccles is the last man she wants to marry, and Jessica is determined to make him hate her. As usual though, fate makes other plans, and as hard as she tries, love creeps its way into both their hearts. But a personality and military life like George’s easily serves in the making of enemies, and with Jessica in possession of a tempestuous mind herself, along with being the daughter of one of the wealthiest Dukes in England, there is little chance their union won’t be without more than the usual difficulties. A story of unexpected love against all odds in the world of Regency era England. “My Restless Earl” is the second book of the Duke’s Daughters Series by Rose Pearson. Each book can be treated as its own standalone romance story, and cliffhanger endings are always strictly avoided.

Rose has read her way through countless romances over the years, “borrowing” them from her older sisters, and hiding them from her mother.

She has a special love for Regency romances and when she began writing, the Regency period was a natural place to start. The ton, the wealthy families, the Season, the dilemmas, and yes, the marriages, have always fascinated her.

She loves a happy ever after! Now she is happy to bring this passion to her stories and share it with her readers.

On a personal note, Rose lives in North Carolina, is married, and has a terrier that barks too much. She enjoys taking him for walks to tire him out!

Going against all of the 5 star reviews posted here, I found this one boring and slow. The heroine came off as clueless and naïve. About the 30th percentile on my Kindle, I finally skipped to the final 3 chapters and skimmed them quickly and was done with it. A good read if you're experiencing insomnia because it would put you to sleep quickly.

This romance is set in the Regency period in England. Jessica is the daughter of one of the richest men in England and he is determined to see her wed before he dies. She has no interest in being tied done but she finds herself being pushed toward George. Lots of drama, suspense and betrayal make for a captivating read. The characters are entertaining and the story was fun to read. I read a reader copy and voluntarily chose to write a review.

I almost DNF this book. The heroine gets upset constantly and makes several TSTL decision. Hero is good but also frustrating.

Why she steals a horse to flee the ball rather than step over incapacitated villain or ride the horse around to other people at the front of the house and re-enter the house. What an idiot.

I don't know if it's just because I had such a connection to a previously read book, or if I just am not in the mood for a novel such as this one- but I did not feel the pull to this novel that I normally do when I am reading a new novel. I will definitely have to try again later.

2. My Restless Earl
3 Stars
I purchased a copy of the clean historical romance A Rogue for a Lady in the Duke’s Daughter’s Series by Rose Pearson and this review was given freely.
This is a story of the malicious and vindictive Major Ridding, whose greed leads to the cruel and ruthless pursuit of Lady Jessica and the ending of a long military friendship with Captain George Eccles the new Lord Warwick. Despite a lot of strife and the repeated attempts by Major Ridding to compromise Lady Jessica, there is a heartwarming ending.
18+ for violent content.
3. Rescued by an Earl
4 Stars
I purchased a copy of the clean historical romance Rescued by an Earl in the Duke’s Daughter’s Series by Rose Pearson, and this review was given freely.
Full of drama, this dark second chance at love and a reformation of a rake story is complicated by the duplicity of a smuggler.
Jacintha has her turn in London and although Lord Slate is persistent, she cannot forget a touching childhood moment with the now wastrel and spendthrift Viscount Henry Musgrove.
18+ for violent content.
4. In the Arms of an Earl
3 Stars
I purchased a copy of the clean historical romance In the Arms of an Earl in the Duke’s Daughter’s Series by Rose Pearson, and this review was given freely.
A lengthy instant attraction romance that is filled with violence.
Obsessed, desperate, and indebted, Harmonia’s cousin Luke becomes violent in his multiple attempts to separate Harmonia from Phillip Marshal the new Earl of Newford and thus marry her himself.
5. The Reluctant Marquess: The Series Prequel
4 Stars
I purchased a copy of the clean historical romance The Reluctant Marquess: The Series Prequel in the Duke’s Daughter’s Series by Rose Pearson and this review was given freely.
Not what I was expecting given the rest of the series. I was pleasantly surprised by the lack of violence and by the checkered past of Lord Seaworth, the future Duke of Westbrook, in this lengthy reformation of a rogue romance. My curiosity was finally satisfied as I learned the reason behind the daughter’s names.
Under his brother’s supervision, the carefree and indulgent Lord Seaworth is pulled from his life of overindulgence to chaperone family friend, Miss Newton’s first Season in London.

I really like Rose Pearson and enjoyed this second book in The Duke's Daughter's series. There were a few problems with the version that I read. There were several times in the book where the heroine Jessica is referred to as her sister Amelia. This was confusing, but I quickly caught on and realized the error. There were also a few words that while spelled correctly were the wrong tense or the wrong version of the word. These small errors caused me to drop this down a star. Despite the errors, I enjoyed the storyline and the dastardly villain. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

A Good Story

I really enjoyed this story. It is well-written. Jessica and George meet and are attracted to each other. However, a friend of George's is determined to prevent them becoming close. He lies to both Jessica and George and makes Jessica believe that George does not care for him at all. Will George realise the deception? Will Jessica see through the lies before the truth is revealed? Read on and enjoy.

I thought this was an entertaining story of love and duty, with a conniving so-called friend thrown in the mix to keep our two loves from sealing the deal. This is the second eldest of the duke's daughters. She wants adventure and has a soft spot for military men, but must marry well. Luckily for her, the right man just asked her to dance.

Engaging books about the Duke's four daughters

Another very entertaining book about the Duke's four daughters. I don't know how, but I missed posting this review when I read these books. All 4 were very easy reads with a little intrigue in each book. I voluntarily reviewed this book after reading the ARC book from the author.

This is an Interesting Story

Lady Jessica is determined not to marry even though her father desires it of each of his daughters. She’s introduced to an army man that she feels an immediate attraction to! It seems he is no longer an army man but instead he’s a noble. Their relationship take many twists and turns leaving one wondering how it will end.

Restless

I enjoyed this book. I liked Jessica and her sisters. George is an honorable man who is kind and considerate. The Major, George's friend is a fiend. My only complaint is that the story is short.

I Loved Lady Jessica and Lord Warwick's romantic adventure to enduring love.

Great storytelling and terrific characters make this an exceptionally intense, dramatic and romantic tale as it is now Jessica's turn to find a husband and do her duty as one of "The Duke's Daughters".

Holy moly what an adventure! I think my heart had to work double time almost this entire book! There be scoundrels about and such a tangled mess of things you wonder if they’ll ever make it out. I thoroughly enjoyed this regency. It was most inspired.
