This book is split in two parts. Part I gives a brief historical overview of Stoicism and what Stoicism is all about. Although the author does mention critiques about Stoicism, she makes no attempt to engage in any form of analysis of these critiques. Her comparison of Stoicism to Religion by mentioning only Buddhism was painful to read. Similar stoic principles can in fact also be found in The Bible. The justification for mentioning only Buddhism? "The practicality of Buddhism focuses on living in the here and now rather than in the next life. This may not be said of other religions."

This truly made me wonder about her grasp of Stoicism. If the intent of this book is to “open you* eyes to explore life in a way you have never previously imagined.” (*not a typo and quoted from the Preface), part I is not a promising start.

Part II is a feeble ‘how to’ attempt to apply Stoicism to your life. The author does give concrete steps, but not specific examples. I made it to Chapter 6 before giving up, so I don't know whether she writes about her personal experience, if at all, in the ensuing chapters.

For someone that is interested in Stoicism, this book won’t whet your appetite. For someone who is already familiar with Stoicism, this book is a waste of time.
