The Royal's Pet

Rate this book
Note to self: when engaging in a ménage à trois with a swoon-worthy prince and his alpha bodyguard, turn off your camera!

Rory:
I was nobody, a lone American backpacking her way through Europe, until my steamy night with the Prince of England accidentally went viral.

Uhhhh. YOLO, I guess?

Now the queen wants my head on a platter, his bodyguard keeps shooting me icy glares that would make a penguin shiver, and the prince…well. He thinks this is all "bloody hysterical."

My instinct to flee is increasing, but when these two British hunks get their hands on me and their tongues everywhere…

It's enough to make this kitten purr.

Prince Roland:
I'm trapped in my mum's ivory tower. She's kept me locked up for my own protection ever since my father's assassination.

But now? I'm itching to break free.

Rory and her luscious lips, wild ginger hair, and bedroom eyes might just be the key to my release. One taste of her and I don't want to stop...

My mate and I are going to tear her apart.

Ben:
I hate it when he calls me "mate."

I want to be so much more than mates. And he has no bloody idea.

Rory changes everything. Now, I can't stop imagining the three of us together:

The royal brat, his loyal bodyguard, and our sweet, submissive pet...

Get on your knees for your prince, kitten...

Prepare for a ROYALLY wicked time with this steamy MMF bisexual romance! Prepare yourself for a royal masquerade ball, a dash of action and suspense, and an unconventional happy-every-after for everyone involved. DNF @ 5%

Ok yikes, I had to DNF this really early on because Ben crosses a huge consent line and for me it's unforgivable, so there's no way I can read him as a romance hero. I'm so mad at this book and I don't mean to be rude but honestly I'll never read another book by this author.

So the set up for THE ROYAL'S PET is that Prince Roland of England is basically a prisoner in the palace because his mom, the Queen, is paranoid about him being assassinated. So Roland's trusted bodyguard Ben will go out, find a tourist interested in having a threesome and then sneak her into the palace for a fun night.

Enter Rory, an American traveling around the world who meets Ben in a pub, starts flirting, then some kissing outside the pub before agreeing to go home with Ben. For the first time ever, Ben doesn't tell the woman about Roland (though Rory knows who he works for and that they're going to the palace) and he brings her to Roland's room. They make out, get naked and Ben goes down on her before tying her to the bed and blindfolding her, all with Rory's consent up to this point.

But this fucker goes and gets Roland and they return to the room where Rory has no idea a second guy has entered the bedroom where she is naked and tied up. When she realizes there are too many mouths on her she freaks out and yells at them to stop. The only saving grace (I guess) is that they immediately stop and Roland realizes Rory wasn't expecting him. Roland is at least not an ass and he's furious (though not enough in my opinion) at Ben for not getting Rory's consent. Roland unties Rory and sends Ben away while Rory gets dressed. I didn't really read past this point other than to see that Roland takes the time to apologize and check in on Rory. Based on the vibe I was getting and the cover blurb it appears Rory ends up sleeping with just Roland shortly after this point, though I can't be sure.

Anyway, hard pass for me because Ben's actions were horrible and crossed so many consent lines.

I voluntarily read an ARC of this book from Hidden Gems in return for a review. I had difficulty getting into this book, probably because I have been on the periphery of the BDSM community for a long time, and the little bit of bondage and pet-play in this book doesn't qualify as even close to the real thing. I think that most authors of what is being billed as BDSM-Romance are off the mark and need some more research. That said, the fantasy of it all was well written and it was fluffy and fun. There was steam and chemistry between the three -Rory, the Prince and Ben, but I'm starting to want real romance in my books and not just fake romance and sex, so this didn't fill that bill.

Finished last night, reviewing now :)
This book is a fun combination of fluff and intrigue, sappy instalove and assassins stalking through the shadows. (and yes, also a lot of smut, but eh. not really what kept me hooked.) I liked it, but I have to say that I do have a least favorite character in this OT3 and it is Ben. I do think he's part of the relationship's balance, and he makes things a little spicier, but he's kind of boring? Oh well, I don't hate him.

I actually really enjoyed this story. It was more than just a MMF ménage, it was well written, and full of suspense. It also had a little emotion mixed in. And the sex was hot 🥵

The 2 ⭐️ are for the spice and my will power to finish this disappointment of a book!

Rating: 2/5 ⭐️
Plot: 1.5/5 ⭐️
Romance: 2/5⭐️
Spice: 4/5 ⭐️
POV: Mulitple

Tropes:
🟣 Reverse Harem
🟣 Prince x Bodyguard
🟣 English vibes
🟣 Forbidden romance

Disappointment. That’s the first thing that flashes through my mind when I want to put my feelings about this book into the words: disappointment. The disappointment hit me hard mainly because it was one of my most anticipated reads ever since I came across this book. What’s not to love? Reverse harem? Forbidden romance? Prince of England? Yet I felt like it failed to provide what was promised to us.

The story was pretty average and the spice scenes were the only thing that got going for me. I chose this to read this book for 03 reasons: non fantasy, reverse harem and forbidden romance. But I’m genuinely regretting picking up this book to even read.

The writing was not up to satisfaction because there was no flow. Her story just went through the motions. One second they hooked up and the next, they were in love. I know there is a concept called insta love but this book failed to deliver that. Nothing made sense and I just ended up finishing this book because even though I know how it’ll end, i am a sucker for my curiosity. That bitch is going to be the end of me.

Maybe I’m exaggerating. Maybe I’m not. Maybe I’m disappointed because the book didn’t live up to the standard that was in my head. Honestly speaking, I’m just upset over the whole thing… but I’m frankly questioning my decision to have continued reading this book till the end. I knew it was terrible when the characters, out of nowhere, fell in love with each other. ALL OF THEM, might I add!!😭😭😭 I mean, how is that even possible?

Too many pet/animal references

The writing was just okay to me. There were far too many animal references. Roland the lion, Ben the wolf, Rory the kitty, Oscar the Otter. Just too many. And can one woman seriously be that wet all time? I forgot how old all the characters were. Maybe they were younger.

The plot was decent. I enjoyed the little bit of action/adventure/murder mystery. Lots of sex scenes! Some one on one and some poly. Nicely done.

Overall it was a decent book. It was the authors first book I think. I hope the writer continues to improve. Happy reading!!

REVIEW:

This one's been on my list for awhile and it looked really cute. I love the Prince/bodyguard trope along with a woman between them. Hot! Even better, the long-suppressed feelings Ben has had for Roland. And the fact that they love to share women. All good stuff for me.

The three of them were sweet and cute and steamy at times. I loved the dynamic and how devoted they all are to each other.

But a lot about the story is also extremely unrealistic and serious things are downplayed quite a bit. I don't like unnecessary drama, but this almost had the opposite problem. It didn't allow for any drama to develop from legitimate issues.

First we have the sex tape scandal. Could definitely be a big problem considering who Roland is. But it's presented in such a nonchalant way. Like "oh this happened...oh well!" And then it wasn't even brought up again. So weird.

Next is the "I love you's" that are thrown around between the three of them after being together for like 2 days. It just didn't feel realistic or genuine to me.

Then there's the moments that Ben and Roland cross the line from friends to lovers. Ben is already bisexual, but Roland wasn't. Yet this whole thing between them happens and neither of them have any concerns or reservations about it. It's all too easy with no push or pull at all.

And the fact that Roland kisses Ben during his speech is so unrealistic. Yes, the world has come a long way towards accepting gay relationships. But I doubt all of England would just be a-okay with this display. It's just unlikely. And what is his plan? To come out as throuple? That'll go over even better!

Now, I didn't hate the book. I like the characters (mostly) and the steam and the whole setup. The intrigue about his aunt Iris was interesting too. But again, not realistic. Because in a typical Monarchy, Iris wouldn't be next in line for the throne, Roland would, since he's his mother's child. He would fall next in line. The only way Iris would be next is if her sister never had children, or if Roland dies too. So this whole thing didn't even make sense at all.

Overall, I liked the story. But it was lacking necessary drama. Everything was too fluffy and easy (unrealistically so), and that made it rather boring and eye-roll-inducing. I don't plan to read the rest of the series at this point. I'm not interested in baby-centered romance stories (which the next one is) and I am just done. I'm happy enough knowing they're together. Yay.

Rory travels to show the world to her brother who has CF. When she meets a hot guy in a bar in England, she has no idea what he has in store for her.
Ben is Bi, in love with the prince he guards, and is falling in love with Rory. He would do anything to protect them.
Roland is the prince whose mother has kept him prisoner in the palace for his own safety since his father passed 10 years ago under dubious circumstances. He has Ben, his most trusted guard and only friend, bring him woman to be shared between them. When Ben brings Rory, he doesn't tell her what to expect and she understandably freaks. Roland calms her and grants her an interview for her site. Problem is, the video doesn't stop recording after the interview, and their interaction is live streamed to the world. The Queen is not happy. Ben's job is in jeopardy. Then Rory's life is in danger. Ben needs to protect the prince and save Rory. But someone really close to home is trying to get rid of all of them. Who will survive? And how will England feel about their prince having Bi-relations?

Adult content of steamy scenes makes this an over 18 only book. Didn’t notice any major typos, and the critically ill character is handled with grace and dignity.

I like this book. It's a contemporary menage a trois (MMF) romance. There's plenty of silly fun, a case (or two) of insta-love, a bit of pet play, and a side order of mystery. I enjoyed this for the most part, although there are TYPOS GALORE and some glaring inconsistencies. I think with some editing and some fleshing out, this could be a better book. The beginning, especially, could be improved. I'm glad that I kept reading, though, because the story gets better in the second half.

The main characters are Rory, an American travel video blogger, an English prince named Roland, and his bodyguard, Ben. I thoroughly enjoyed how Rory grabbed life by the horns. I think Roland was kind of dense, though. He pretty much needed to be smacked in the face before he realized what Ben felt for him. Ben is kind of a jerk in some parts, but he might be my favorite character. I like how he figured out what was really going on in the palace.

Some of the things that bothered me: the palace name changed, Sara went from being a felon to an "agent," Rory's brother, Oscar, somehow travelled although the whole point of Rory's blog was because he was too sick to travel.

I'm not sure if I will read the next book. Maybe it's better, maybe it's more of the same.

Maybe I had different expectations; maybe the teaser I saw gave me those, idk.

The plot seemed rushed at times and at others, stalling instead of building up the suspense or the setting for a big scene or plot twist. It also felt jumpy; one moment, the characters are together; the next, something happens, and it's just 2 of them. Then suddenly, someone who was scared to leave their house for 10 years decides to fly to Italy and actually throw caution to the wind and make a speech in front of people. Then we rush again, and then bam, home again, and guess what shit happens.

The three MCs fell for each other way too fast, in my opinion, without knowing anything about the other, so calling that love was somehow rushed? unrealistic? I don't even know how to put that into words. There was only one MMF scene in the book, maybe two, which I found a bit disappointing as the plot hints to a lot of that. One of the MMCs seems not to know what they exactly want either and is quite immature, the other is not really good at communicating, and the FMC is overly immature and sorry, but the whole submission thing was just... meh. It wasn't gradual either, and in my opinion, it was weirdly introduced through a panic attack.

DNF

DNF. Rory started out fine but then the quirky energy became a little too much. The dose of TSTL did me in though; she’s at the royal palace, sees a roped off section that’s clearly off limits, and she decides to poke around anyway because she’s a “wandering soul”? Give me a break.

Also had consent issues, with Ben not telling Rory that they were going to have a threesome. Also had some comments from the Prince about “other women” and other classic ~internalized misogyny~ comments.

Rest of the book is just really meh. I really had to dig deep into my suspension of disbelief just to get through the opening chapters because it all just didn’t feel very realistic. I get that this is already a bit of an unrealistic scenario with it being a royal romance and all, but this was still way beyond what I’d find reasonable in this type of story.

Super disappointed because this story sounded great, but execution falls very short. I believe this is the author’s debut novel though, so I hope with time her works get better.

Intriguing with some suspense, steamy bisexual threesome sex

I enjoyed this book from start to finish. I love the characters and the story line. It must have been torture for Ben to desire Roland for so long without acting on his feelings and Roland was so caught up in his own sad life that he never saw Ben until Rory forced him to take notice but feelings for Ben must have been there before because he didn't need much convincing, all it took was a kiss from Ben and Roland felt all the pent up desire that Ben unleashed on him and he could not deny him anymore. It's funny how something would be steering you in the face and don't see it until someone or something forces you to. Rory Roland and Ben are smoking hot together and there is no jealousy between them, unlike that terrible sister of the queen, isn't it awful when you can't trust family? Can't wait to read the next book

The story has an interesting idea with the relationship of the Royal/bodyguard/tourist dynamic. I liked the relationship between Ben and Roland the best and, honestly, would have been fine with that alone. I had a hard time understanding the insta-love with Rory for both of the men. It is fine to be attracted to her so instantly, but feeling the love so quickly didn't compute with me. (It is important to keep in mind that the story is OTT when starting.) Because of the interesting storyline, I was invested to see how the relationship was going to be played out, which is a big plus. I would have liked to see tighter editing to make sure the fluidity of events were clear and straight. Sometimes I had a hard time remembering who was talking in the chapter, but that can happen in first person, multiple POV. I am glad to have gotten the POV of each character to understand how each played in to the relationship.

I received a free ARC copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving my honest review. I was enthralled by this book, as am Australian, I am aware of the history etc of the royals and laughed to myself as I read this book, I am sure none of our royals would behave this way and the humor of it added to my enjoyment. The storyline flowed with drama and the characters showed depth and honesty even though I found the setting weird. If I could I would have changed the setting to a different monarchy but the humor of it did amuse me just the same. Loved the story, loved the happy ending but wondered who would father the next in line to the throne.

This is about a vlogger Rory who met a man named Ben at a bar. She decides to have a one night stand with Ben and ends up meeting Prince Roland of England. Prince Roland never leaves the castle grounds for fear someone will kill him like his father was killed 10 years prior. Oh wicked Queen mother. Way to tighten those apron strings. So, Ben sneaks in ladies for threesomes. BUT there is a snag with this one. Ben doesn't let Rory in on the triad idea before Roland shows up and all heck lets loose. Some other things happen like an accidental sex tape and an attempted murder plot all while these three are learning about each other and discovering the joys of love in a true triad. This is the first book so know there is another book you will need to read to finish this storyline. Yummy

O můj bože... To bylo skvělé.
Příběh prince, bodyguarda a cestovatelky.

I enjoyed this book! I think that Roland, Ben, and Rory balanced each other out, and I liked watching their relationship develop (and the smut was GREAT). I really appreciated Rory's backstory and why she felt the need to travel, but I do feel like it was a bit of a rushed decision when she decided to stay. I also thought it was weird that it was stressed that Roland hasn't left the palace in years, and then he just ups and leaves with Rory and Ben like it's nothing (I know he had that one moment of anxiety on the plane, but I still feel like him leaving after so many years was just disregarded). The only other downfall was that I could pretty much guess what was going to happen (and who was going to be behind it). Overall, a good read!

This book is totally OTT but, it is entertaining, and it made me laugh.

The thinly veiled references to the current Royal Family were a hoot.

The characters were quirky (to say the least), but believable, and the relationship between Roland, Ben, and Rory was touching, as they all had convincing back stories.

There were some serious points in the story arc....the dangers of social media, the downside to being heir to the throne, and the threat to life and limb doesn't always come from outside....sometimes it's much closer to home.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book via Hidden Gems....and I enjoyed every minute of it. So much so that I read it in one sitting.

For the last 10 years, Prince Roland has been locked away from the outside world. Ben has been in love with the prince since he became a guard in the palace. Rory is a wanderer determined to bring the places her brother cannot visit to him. Will Prince Roland be open to widening his sexual preference? Will Rory finally find a place to call home? Will Ben discover who is out to steal the crown?

LOVED the chemistry between these three. I will admit that Prince Roland was a bit stuck up, but I realized it covered his insecurities. Loved how dominant Ben was. Loved Rory sense of adventure and how accepting she was of what was around her. Steamy read!
