Charles Darwin's On the Origin of Species, in which he writes of his theories of evolution by natural selection, is one of the most important works of scientific study ever published.
As someone with two degrees in biology, I have always been ashamed that I had never read this book. It does require some advanced knowledge of organism classification to really understand. But I’m amazed how for someone with little to no understanding of genetic inheritance how much he truly understood. He is brilliant and has a gift for noticing patterns. I loved this book and all the evidence he gives to support the theory of natural selection and decent with modification.
Initially difficult to engage with due to the age of the writing, but actually very accessible once you get into it. He does love pigeons a bit too much, but an incredible insight into the creation of the theory that underpins everything about life on earth
