#dnf page 95 ------------ The hero is a womanizer pig. I did not like him. He takes the virginity of the heroine and then kicks her to the curb and marries another woman. He marries another woman for money and interest in his work. He has a son who is cared for by the nanny and he does not have a real relationship with the child. Our heroine is heartbroken, but she goes on with life and marries another. Her husband dies and she goes into depression. She has a daughter. That's why I gave up because I did not like him. He fucks everything that has a hole and breathes and has no respect for women. I gave up.
Man-whore psychiatrist starts treating the woman he cast aside years ago, for money no less, and she, the vulnerable fool, participates willingly. And don't get me started on how many slutty women this guy had unprotected sex with . . . This story was so wrong, on so many levels it defies description, and that's before you get into how phony and vacuous the dialogue was. Glad it was free, but I'll never get back the time wasted. Truly a train wreck.
Blurb: I'll do anything for a second chance with my first love.

I have some trouble with this book. In my personal opinion, while the storyline is good, the execution wasn’t. Brandon is very sexually active, which isn’t the problem as many of my favorite bf’s are. The unappealing aspect is that he has sex with random women and uses no protection, don’t get me started on the descriptions of the ensuing act and climax. Melissa was too insecure, as well as confusing and I had trouble believing their love story. The kids however are adorable and do help make the book lighter.
I gave it 3 ⭐️ because if you can overlook those aspects it’s not a bad read.
“I Voluntarily Received and Reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book”
Horrible hot mess. Page stuffed book over 3,000 pages. The story states according to Goodreads is 422 pages. If that was true, more blank space then story. The story is actually maybe 120 in length on a good day. Also...within first three pages major editing with the misplaced character names. Amy Brent has much better work.
This is an emotional story of Melissa and Brandon. Brandon promised her the world when they were younger, only to break her heart. Melissa found love again with Carl but he was cruelly taken away in a car accident which she blames herself for. As she is struggling with everything her doctor refers her to someone she can talk to. This turns out to be Brandon. When their counselling sessions turn sexual Brandon moves Melissa to one of his colleagues. He needs to get her to trust him and understand that Carl's death wasn't her fault and it's OK to love again! Can Brandon get Melissa to give him a second chance?
In this book we meet Melissa and Brandon. Brandon will do anything to get a second chance with his first love. Melissa will do anything to avoid more pain. Can they find the perfect middle ground or will the past come back to haunt them again?
This is an amazing book. It will have you hooked from the first word to the very end. It has ups and downs I really want to tell you all about. I however don’t want to ruin it for any other readers. I would highly recommend it anyone and everyone.
Overall I liked this book. Melissa is a hot mess and has been since her husband died. She is told she needs to go see a psychiatrist. It ends up being her ex Brandon. He thankfully is able to help her move on eventually and they get their happy ending.
This is a different type of story for Amy Brent in as much as I really thought the so called hero was not worthy of Melissa the heroine. Brandon had broken her heart when he went to uni and promised her that he would be back for her. Needless to say he didn't. he didn't even make an excuse why. This heart break for Melissa was the start of her life with depression. She did try to move on and married a wonderful man and they had a beautiful little girl but then he died in a tragic accident and Melissa blames herself for his death as she is so depressed. Her doctor suggests that she try therapy and he suggests that she makes an appointment to see the renowned, Dr Brandon Black. Brandon is now very successful and uses women for sex and nothing else- no emotions or feelings whatsoever. That is why I, quite frankly, detested him I would have advised Melissa to run in the opposite direction. However, she goes and this is where the story STARTS. I found this to be an emotionally upsetting story and I felt so very, very sorry for Melissa as the only bright part of her life is her gorgeous little girl whom she loves above everything. This is so beautifully written by Amy with such compassion that I was drawn to Melissa's story right from the very beginning. Melissa had a long and difficult journey to struggle through and it is treated with great sensitivity and woven into a believable and realistic storyline. This was a tremendous journey to 'walk' with Melissa and I believe that the ending was the right one. I would have liked an epilogue in say five years time to see if the HEA really was that and that they did stay together happily. I received a free reader's copy of this book and will be purchasing my own copy to support the author and as I want my own copy of the never published before story by Amy that is included.
Another book about her only wanting the manwhore H and his magic pen$se. This book was the worst of worst, she is so stupid I wondered how her professional life will be like. Am tired of author writing the she married him but he wasn't good in bed, the least you could have given us is her having the perfect marriage and wonderful husband that know how to make orgasm.
WOW! Amy Brent has done it again. This book was amazing. It was a deeply emotional read. In a live interview with Amy, she told us that this book had some things in it that were based on her actual life. You can tell that this book means something to her on a deeper level than some of her other books. It really reaches deep into your soul. Not only that but she really does know how to write a good romance that will make your toes curl.
In this book Melissa is suffering from a deep chronic depression, that has went on for so long that her body is giving up the fight. Melissa has had a shitty hand in life. Her first love breaks her heart and his promise to come back to her, by getting married. Then she finally thinks she has healed and moved on when the man she married dies in a car accident, leaving her to raise their daughter on her own. She is so eat up with guilt and blame that she is hurting herself.
When she goes for her check up her doctor tells her that she has to do something different. That her body can't take much more. So he refers her to a therapist.
Brandon is a top-notch therapist in his field. He is smart wealthy and a single dad. He made a huge mistake a long time ago when he married a Russian immigrate to allow her to obtain a green card. She abandoned him and their son. He lost the only woman he loved to marry this woman. At least he got the money to start up his practice.
When Melissa goes to her first therapy section, she is stunned. There he is. Brandon. Her first love. The start of all this. Can Melissa open up and try to heal? Can Brandon help Melissa without crossing the line?
This book was emotional charged and the characters were amazing. Melissa is truly in need of help. Her depression is so bad that she has body aches, nightmares, crying spells, sleep problems, weight loss and even her pallor is pale. She has trust issues and the road for her and Brandon is a tough one. They have many obstacles to overcome. She has panic attacks and all she wants is to be a better person for her daughter. The journey she is on, is a slow process, but you can follow along as she heals and slowly blossoms into a wonderful and happy person.
This book not only has a wonderful tale of strength and the will to survive, it has a hot as hell man who is sexy as fuck. Man the scenes between these two are freaking hot and are in plenty. This book will make you wet and close to the edge. Toe curling power. This book is that HOT! So pick it up now or you are gonna miss out.
SCORE: Stars: 4 (out of 5) for overall story Chilies: 4 (out of 5) for heat between the sheets/or anywhere else
BOOK TIDBITS: Genre: Romance (Adult) Recommended Readers: 18+ Chapters: 34 + Epilogue Ending: HEA Main Characters: Melissa Jensen Conway Dr. Brandon Black
REVIEW: This one is a delicious read. I love the complex characters. They both are completely believable. Melissa suffers from severe depression. She has had a sh*tty life and she is doing everything she can to survive for herself as well as for her three year old daughter. She met Brandon when she was in high school and he had just started the university. He promised he’d come back for her. Brandon breaks his promise and breaks her heart.
Melissa’s family life was not healthy. Her parents wanting to continue to control her, and when she stands up for herself, they disown her. They never again acknowledge her even after her marriage and the birth of their granddaughter.
Melissa’s suffers another blow with the loss of her husband. It sends her depression even further in the pits. Her doctor convinces her to seek assistance from a psychiatrist and she does, reluctantly. Her doctor gives her the psychiatrist’s contact information and she recognizes the name, Dr. Brandon Black, her first love.
Well, Melissa faces her past emotions, the loss of her husband, the grief and guilt life has handed her like running full speed straight into a solid wall. She slams into her feelings and emotions of everything while still trying to remain working and raising her daughter.
The heat between the sheets is explosive!
This story does end in an HEA and so worth reading. I love the psychological connections with the characters.
O My Freaking God! Amy Brent has really done it with First Love. It's as if she went inside a widow's head, heart and soul to pull out all the confusion that goes along with the guilt that is felt when your spouse has died and you eventually find yourself thinking about a love before your beloved husband came into your life. Someone who you cared deeply about and for whatever reason you were pushed aside and left to deal with your feelings of abandonment and loss but finally run across someone who helps you put you back together and give you a sense of acceptance and love but then he ends of dying and leaves you bewildered and lost again!
This book!!!!
As I read this book I found myself drawn into the story as if it were my own. Dealing with the death of your spouse and then you find yourself in contact with the person who you once loved with everything in you and then realizing that you still do love that person. You are consumed with guilt as you work your way through the feelings you have. You need to come face to face with the fact that you fulfilled your vows and til death has happened so you no longer owe any obligation to that marriage outside of your life now.
I cried ugly tears as I read the Epilogue of this book. I can only hope that it will help a widow who might read this book, will as I have, find something that will help her deal with some of the baggage left by widowhood and the consuming guilt of still being attracted to a love previous to what you had with your deceased spouse.
So much to be said for this book! I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary ARC of this book.
In this book we meet Melissa, a grieving mother suffering from chronic depression. Rejected by her parents at a young age, she meets and falls in love by her college sweetheart who in turn breaks her heart and his promise to return home so they may marry. Instead he flies home with his new wife-to-be. Left heartbroken and drowning her sorrow, she meets Carl and over time, learns to to fall in love again. Another joy she experiences is the birth of their child but her happiness is ripped from her yet again when Carl dies in a car wreck. The burden and guilt of his loss causes her doctor to refer her to the one man she has painstakingly avoided over the years, Brandon Black.
Brandan Black is a renowned Psychologist in his field with several thriving medical practices throughout America. He is a wealthy, divorced, single father to his young son Max, and uses women to temporarily fill a void. He lost the only women he has ever loved when he married the daughter of a Russian businessman, in exchange for money which he used to set up his initial practice.
Knowing she needs help from the one man who broke her heart is gut-wrenching but still Melissa finds herself making the consultation, knocking on the door and coming face-to-face with the one man she has never forgotten. The sentiment is shared from Brandan to Melissa and the two are faced with having an off-limits relationship as they learn to forgive, forget and heal their broken hearts.
This was an emotionally charged novel and I was captivated by the story from the first page. WOW, just wow.
Melissa is a widow with a three year old daughter, Sarah. Brandan is divorced after a marriage of convenience and is now raising his 4 year old son, Max. Brandan is a renowned psychiatrist and author of a popular book with a second book release coming soon. When Melissa is still experiencing severe depression three years after her husband’s death and still blames herself for the circumstances surrounding his death in a car accident, her boss schedules an appointment for a consultation with a psychiatrist because her boss is scared for her welfare. It’s a well developed story about Melissa encountering her first love, Brandan as she enters his office for the consultation. These two begin an off limits relationship between doctor and patient as he tries to help her work through her anxiety and depression. While I found it difficult to comprehend that he would jeopardize his license and career to treat her I understood his need to help her get over her feelings of rejection when he left her as an 18 year old after taking her virginity and in-effect changing her whole life as she is rejected by her parents. Fortunately Brandon learns an important lesson in love when his wife leaves him after obtaining her citizenship and he is able to see Melissa for all of her many qualities as a nurturing, kind, loving and strong woman and helps her overcome all her sadness and accept love again.
This book was actually good. Lord, it was hilarious in the beginning lol. That doctor Black was a thot for sure, and he finally slowed down his whoreness once he saw Melissa walked into his office. I was glad of that because he wasn’t using protection or anything with those women just nasty yuck. I adore both Max and Sarah it was adorable towards the end of the last chapters lol when Melissa and her daughter moved in with Brandon. Lol, when Sarah was rushing her mom to come on so that she could see her new room god that was hilarious but cute. I also adore the section at the end everything about it really when Brandon asked Melissa to marry him and the kid's reaction.!
Though, this book was good Melissa did get annoying in some parts more so when she kept crying over stuff for no reason especially when she told Brandon to go back on his book tour. Even her best friend Ava knew that Melissa was overreacting what she did was ridiculous, and I was glad that she finally realize that at the end and both her and Brandon was happy with one another along with giving both the children a mother and a father. Though I was 99%, Melissa was going to end up pregnant by the end but it didn’t happen.
Melissa has had a lot of hard hits in her life and its finally taken a toll on her. She is depressed and trying to cope with only having her daughter to keep her going. When she goes for a check up her doctor recommends that she see someone to talk about what's going on with her. Imagine her surprise when the doctor sends her to her ex boyfriend Brandon. Brandon is an amazing doctor in his field of treating people with depressions but he never counted on his new patient being the woman whose heart he broke. Just seeing each other had them flooded in memories of the past. Melissa is struggling started when her and Brandon broke up and got worse when her husband died. However with some changes in her life and talking with Brandon she is starting to see her way through the sadness. Brandon ends up transferring her to a partner at work because of how involved they have gotten. Can Melissa and Brandon make it work this time?
This was an amazing story about a woman struggling with depression and reconnects with a past love. This story will draw you into the story so deep that its like your on the emotional roller-coaster they are on. I was caught from the first page and couldn't put it down until the end. Another amazing story by Amy Brent I can't wait for what she writes next.
I voluntarily read and reviewed this book. I enjoyed it so much I bought my own copy.
There is a lot of heavy emotional ups and downs in this story as well as some lighthearted moments that will make you smile, laugh and maybe even shed a tear in happiness along with experiencing the pain, sadness and loneliness on behalf of Melissa. Depression is one of the number one killers in our society or plays a part in it. Melissa is one of the main characters in this story who is coping with depression and is struggling daily. She is sent by recommendation to a doctor who specializes in depression but, he is also someone from her past. When Brandon sees Melissa he is shocked because he broke her heart [in his College days] and now she is trying to deal with the death of her husband and it has been a struggle for her. Widowed and now alone with her daughter, life has been unkind. Fate drew her back into the life of her ex-boyfriend Brandon. Healing can be hard, but, also so beautiful. It's wonderful to see her embrace life again. There were some hot sex scenes as well. What will happen between Melissa and Brandon? Will Melissa be able to deal with her depression? I truly loved this book!!
This is a single dad second chance romance read with a forbidden vibe from Amy Brent. I'm a sucker for single dad so I was excited, but after few chapters everything is starting to go downhill, Brandon's personality as a playboy single dad, didn't sit well with me, he's a psycholog but the way he treated women is really bothering me, it's a matter of preference though. There's drama and a lot of hotness (although sometimes is a bit too much for my taste). It has interesting story and there's some moments that got really emotional, although it's not my fav, I still quite enjoying it.
As for characters, I don't like Brandon, I can't get over how he treated women, although he did redeemed himself in the end. And Melissa, oh poor girl, I totally understand her depression come from, I can feel her desperation. This couple is a disfunction couple yet they're perfect for each other, they heal and comfort each other.
If you're looking forbidden doctor/patient read or second chance romance. You might like this one.

Well written book with great storyline and plot. Well described characters that develops nicely through the story and are likeable. There is a great chemistry between the main characters. The story is written in dual POV and gives the reader much more of the feelings and thoughts of the main characters in this way. The epilogue was very welcomed. I like to know what happens next to finish of the story. A second chance romance. Captivating from first to last chapter. I was not that into Brandon in the beginning but he absolutely got better throughout the story. I like that Amy Brent has taken real life issues and put them down on paper into a great story. She has a use of words that makes you feel you are there with the characters. The story flows nicely and it has will make your tissues fly around the room. It has laughs, crys, screams, anger and frustration in it. Absolutely worth the read!
This second chance romance will take your emotions on a roller coaster ride. A compelling plot that focuses on Melissa. She is a widowed, single mom that's suffering with depression. During a checkup her doctor recommends that she see someone and that someone turns out to be with her first love. I really loved the Melissa character. She came across as very real and I think most readers will be able to sympathize with the tough breaks she's had to endure. I also feel many readers will see a bit of themselves in her as depression is such a widespread issue that effects so many people. Her pain is very real and easy felt. Brandon, to be honest, I had a hard time connecting with. Some of his actions made him unlikable, at least in my opinion. He did grow on me as the book progressed but in the end he was not my favorite hero. The storyline is good though and has plenty of emotional depth to it. I'm posting a voluntary, honest review.
Melissa is struggling in life and seeks medical help, but when her doctor recommends she see Brandon Black, she almost has a panic attack. Brandon was her first love and broke her heart, but when her husband came along, he put her back together, but one fateful night, he died. She has to deal with his loss and still raise her daughter and go to work. She manages to go see Brandon and he immediately recognizes her, but is willing to give her the help she needs. But when it becomes more, can they handle it? Will Melissa be able to put herself out there again with Brandon? Will he hurt her again? Or can they become a happy family of four?
This book is wonderful and hits on some very touchy subjects with depression, loneliness, family, death and love. Melissa and Brandon find each other in the end and are definitely meant to be together. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
UGH (that was a good ugh by the way)!! I can’t even put into words how much I loved this story. I’m pretty sure I say this a lot but I’m going to say it again- her best book yet!! How the heck does she keeping getting better and better?!?! I think for me, a big part of why I loved it so much is because she has said that some of it is based on her real life. It feels like a way to get to know one of my favorite authors a bit better. Besides that, the writing, storyline, and characters were, as usual, fantastic. I was hooked from the start! I read some other reviews as I went to post mine and am not sure that we were reading the same book? It’s emotional and obvious how much this book means to her as not only an author but as a person who dealt with some of the same issues as Melissa. And besides, who doesn’t love a second chance at love??? Must read!

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book Oh wow, this is one powerful, emotional story . Melissa hasn’t had an easy life. Firstly , her first loved ditched her but for unknown reasons, then her parents are just a waste of space, no support in her life and sadly, her husband died in a car crash. So many sad memories but in all this , she has never forgotten her first love...Brandon. Even though he ditched her , years earlier. When you put all that together, you can see why she has emotional problems. It’s like someone has thrown a hand grenade into her emotions and even now, years later, she is still feeling the effects of the fallout. Who would have thought that the one man who started the rollercoaster of events, is now the one man who can save her.....Brandon. You could feel Melissa’s pain, her trying to cope and bring up her daughter Sarah. A fantastic story worth reading and to other readers...please disregard the negative reviews. A fantastic story.
O. M. G. I need a glass of wine and some aspirin after this book. There were so many emotions! Melissa makes you want to gather her close and just give her the biggest hug. She has had such tragedy in her life and she just wants to know what's wrong with her. Brandon, the one that got away, is determined to help her find herself again. These two were absolutley perfect together. And the epilogue? Oh my heart. I was crying so hard! Good tears of course. You must read this book it will give you all the feels! I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book. Hero, Brandon = 5/5 Heroine, Melissa = 5/5 Chemistry = 5/5 Sex = 5/5 Plot = 5/5 Mystery = 2/5 Action = 1/5 Darkness = 3/5 Humor = 2/5 POV = dual Would I recommend this book = yes Would I re-read this book = yes Would I read future books by this author = yes
I'll be honest and say up front that I did not like Brandon much or agree with some of his decisions relating to Melissa, however he did grow on me.
I connected with Melissa and felt her pain and I think that is because of how well Amy has written this story. Brandon's character is much stronger later on in the book and some of the scenes of them together are both heartbreaking and loving.
I liked the secondary characters and how supportive and insightful they were at times, I was pleasently surprised at how supportive Melissa's boss was.
I really enjoyed this story but did feel like I was left with a couple of questions unanswered, they didn't really affect the storyline but as they were in the story I would have liked to know the answers; a dot your i's and cross your t's sort of thing.
I am voluntarily leaving this honest review after receiving an ARC.
Be prepared....this story is going to take you on an emotional rollercoaster. You have Melissa who is struggling with depression from the lose of her husband, but manages to keep it together for her daughter. She is referred to a psychologist who just happens to be her ex Brandon. He happens to be her first love and the one who broke her heart. Ok so Brandon...well let's just say I did not like him in the beginning...he treated women like they were just a plaything to be used and tossed aside....JERK!! He does finally come around by the end of the book and redeem himself. Melissa and Brandon were definitely meant to be together. There are definitely some hot and steamy sex scenes. You will have to read the story to see how they find there way to a HEA. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Melissa has been diagnosed with MDD (Major Depressant Disorder). She is being referred to Dr. Brandon Black. The Brandon Black she lost her virginity to. So not only does she have to discuss the nature of why she is depressed. She must tell him how he hurt her years ago by walking away from their relationship. All he wants to do is help Melissa get her life back to normal. As he helps her they both notice that the fire still burns deep within between them. Though he has a son and is divorced. Mel has a daughter and is a widow. Will Brandon help her get her lunch from back on track? Will the be able to make things workout? You must read to find out.
Reviewed for ARC! As someone who also battles daily with MDD I could relate to Melissa’s roller coaster of emotions. The sex scenes/dreams are steamy!!!
