God Is the Gospel (A Study Guide to the DVD Featuring John Piper): Meditations on God's Love as the Gift of Himself

Rate this book
John Piper awakens you to the highest, best, final, and decisive good of the gospel, without which no other gifts would be good. Some people say forgiveness makes the gospel good news. Others suggest that being saved from hell or gaining freedom from a guilty conscience makes it good news. But the Bible tells us the gospel is good news not because of its many peripheral blessings, but because it brings us to God-and to utter delight in him as our all-sufficient and everlasting treasure. This study guide—a companion to the God Is the Gospel DVD— dynamically explores the ultimate good of the good news in eight sessions that feature the teaching of Pastor John Piper. This full-length guide will prepare your group members for Piper's powerful DVD lessons and supplement his book God Is the Gospel . Each study guide comes complete with Scripture and key quotations for reflection, penetrating questions, and five daily assignments per week. Along with the DVD, it is an ideal package for leading your class, small group, church, or family to embrace God as the gospel in every area of their lives.

A astounding book that simply reveals how God alone is the greatest treasure of the Gospel. Dwelling on his glory alone shall be the Christians goal.

This is a grounding book that is like a spiritual thermometer. John Piper cautions us to desire God, and only God, as the chief end of our faith. He explains why there may be many distractions and ‘good’ that take the throne of our hearts but it God Himself who should be our goal.

Writing Style:
Easy to read, although he is constantly quoting from Jonathan Edwards who takes a bit more concentration!

Ideal Reader:
Appropriate for any believer.

Main Topics of Takeaway:
God as the gift of the gospel
What is saving faith?
How should we treat the gifts of the gospel?
How do we pray if God is the good Giver?
Desiring God for His own sake.

So so good! 4 stars only because he repeats himself a bit much. But 10/10 would recommend.

Genuinely a perspective-changing book for me. I love how thoroughly Piper interrogates the topics he's tackling and how carefully he pulls everything from scripture.
