Jessie decided to be a writer because there were too many lives she wanted to live to just pick one.

Taking her history degree dangerously, Jessie tells the stories of courageous heroines, the men who dared to love them, and the world that tried to defeat them.

Jessie lives in New Hampshire where if she’s not at her desk writing, she’s probably letting the dog out. Again.

Too clean and confusing

Previous series had more romance. This series is clean and kind of dull. Also numerous proofreading errors. I never really understood how Jane's promise had anything to do with the villain or what the villain did decades before that was so horrible or threatening. I can't stand Emily so I won't read the next book even if I thought there might be some passion.

Jane and Austin’s story. Coming from a family of spies Jane feels she is the plain intelligent member and hoping to settle for a quiet life in the country with a man of her choosing but then there is Austin. When Jane is nearly kidnapped both become involved with unmasking a spy and saving an inmate of Bedlam. Loved the storyline and Jane’s eventual realisation that she is not just plain Jane who can managed her father’s ledgers. Will they be able to work together and find love. I’m sorry I missed the first book in the series but intend to read it now

Another enjoyable instalment in this series. I like the combination of mystery and intrigue along with romance. Jane Black takes up the mantle of spy in this story. Her companion for the investigation is her brother’s best friend Evanshire. He is attracted to Jane but is insecure in his relationships and is unable to adequately explain his feelings. Jane believes she is also inadequate when compared with her spy relatives and her beautiful cousin, Emily. They work well as a team and solve the next part of the puzzle that started in book 1.

I really enjoyed the character development in this story. It is the first I read in the series and I now want to go back and read the rest. I loved that they started out speaking such different love languages and then, through savvy advice (which they actually asked for), and learning more about each other, they overcame.

I really enjoyed Jane's evolution. She was already great, but evolved more fully into herself.

Action packed

All Ms. Clever's books are full of action, a bit of suspense, and lots of fun! Hard to put them down at night and make myself go to sleep. Can't wait for more.

Way too much inner thoughts and angst. I will not continue this series.

More Mystery than romance.

Not as spicy or steamy

Very Little angst.
