Rook and Ronin #3.5

Happily Ever After: A Day in the Life of the HEA

Rate this book
Life in Rook & Ronin’s world has been bliss for fifteen years. Rook, Veronica, and Ashleigh are still BFF’s raising their kids together. Ronin, Spencer, and Ford have managed to go legit and stay out of trouble. And they have a pack of kids running around the eight thousand square foot Vail mansion they all share for the holidays—begging for gifts, and fun, and love.

But every HEA has problems.

Five is fifteen now, and getting ready to go off to college. He’s put it off as long as he could in order to stay close to Princess Shrike, but his stay of execution is over and in three weeks he’s off to Oxford. But Five can’t leave until he gets the only thing he’s ever wanted. The heart of his Princess.

Ford and Ashleigh never had any more children after Five. And now that Kate is sixteen, Ashleigh is out of her head with desire for just one more chance to have a baby in the house.

Rook and Ronin have two beautiful daughters, but Sparrow is growing up too. And she just got a job offer that has Ronin crazed with paternal worry.

And Spencer is the father of a fifteen-year-old princess who looks way too much like her Bombshell mother for his comfort level.

Join the whole Rook & Ronin gang for a Team Christmas you will never forget.

J.A. Huss never wanted to be a writer and she still dreams of that elusive career as an astronaut. She originally went to school to become an equine veterinarian but soon figured out they keep horrible hours and decided to go to grad school instead. That Ph.D wasn’t all it was cracked up to be (and she really sucked at the whole scientist thing), so she dropped out and got a M.S. in forensic toxicology just to get the whole thing over with as soon as possible.

After graduation she got a job with the state of Colorado as their one and only hog farm inspector and spent her days wandering the Eastern Plains shooting the shit with farmers. After a few years of that, she got bored. And since she was a homeschool mom and actually does love science, she decided to write science textbooks and make online classes for other homeschool moms. She wrote more than two hundred of those workbooks and was the number one publisher at the online homeschool store many times, but eventually she covered every science topic she could think of and ran out of shit to say.

So in 2012 she decided to write fiction instead. That year she released her first three books and started a career that would make her a New York Times bestseller and land her on the USA Today Bestseller’s List eighteen times in the next three years. Her books have sold millions of copies all over the world, the audio version of her semi-autobiographical book, Eighteen, was nominated for a Voice Arts Award and an Audie award in 2016 and 2017 respectively, her audiobook Mr. Perfect was nominated for a Voice Arts Award in 2017, and her book, Taking Turns, was nominated for an Audie Award in 2018. Johnathan McClain is her first (and only) writing partner and even though they are worlds apart in just about every way imaginable, it works.

She lives on a ranch in Central Colorado with her family.

Nothing makes me happier than when I get MORE of my favorite characters in extra books, stories or novellas. The Rook & Ronin series and spin offs were some of my favorite books with some unforgettable characters. Julie has given us an incredible holiday novella were we get MORE of these characters all grown up. Not only do we get more of them, we get more of their kids. Specifically FIVE, Rory (Princess Shrike) and little Oliver Shrike.

This novella takes place 15 years after Guns, the last book in the series (if you haven’t read the entire series, do not read this novella!!!). A lot has changed with these characters. Their lives are different, which is to be expected. A lot of time has past and they’re all parents now.

I can’t decide what I loved more. Getting the chapters and scenes with some of my favorite couples (Ford & Ashleigh, Spencer & Bomb and Rook & Ronin) or getting the chapters with Five and Rory. Huss’s writing is fantastic as always and let me just say this now… the Five book we are getting next year will be EPIC!!!! I can’t wait!!!

”How does the time fly by so fast?”

J.A. Huss delivers a holiday novella that fans of the series will absolutely adore! The gang is sharing a mountain retreat in Vail, Colorado for the Christmas holiday. It's set about fifteen years since we last saw this cast of characters. I MISSED these guys so damn much and my heart soared through the pages of their individual HEAs and that they are all still so very close.

The story is told in Ford, Five, Spencer and Ronin’s POVS. If you’re confused about who Five is, he is Ford and Ashleigh’s fifteen year old son. He’s head over heels in love with Baby Bomb/Princess, Rory Shrike. These two are simply wonderful together and the fact that in this coming spring we will be gifted with their story is the best Christmas gift of all!

We catch up with each couple from the series and all three relationships are going through a bit of low key drama. Rook and Ronin discuss their oldest being asked to model and the fact he fears that he's missing things working too much. This couple is still as solid as ever.

Ford and Ashleigh hit a bump in the road as she is struggling with telling him that she would like to have more children. I must stress how wonderfully written Five and Kate are. Ford is still uniquely awesome.

Spencer and his Bombshell and their horde of princesses and young Oliver are kick ass. Veronica struggles with baby weight and feeling sexy in this novella. I forever will be jealous that I’m not blonde and Mrs. Shrike!!

If you haven't picked up already from this review, I LOVED this novella. I love all the characters of this series and am excited about Five and Baby Bomb’s story. Thank you J.A. Huss/Santa for giving me a gift I didn't even have on my list!!!

Hello perfection. The Rook and Ronin Series is where I initially fell in love with Julie’s writing. Ronin, Ford and Spencer are some of my most favorite characters ever. I loved watching them fall in love with their significant others just as much as I loved the unpredictable suspense in the plots.

HEA truly is a gift to the fans of this series. There aren't any guns, crazy plots twists or suspenseful moments, the story fast forwards 15 years and shows us where our favorite couples are at in their lives.

My absolute favorite couple and one of my ultimate book boyfriends is Rutherford Aston, Ford. So while I loved catching up with everyone I was absolutely captivated by his family. Kate and Five have these perfect Ford qualities and I loved reading about them. I especially loved seeing a teenage Five and his princess Rory.

I know he’s always liked her, but he’s so weird. Like Ford, just weird.

This novella, extended epilogue, whatever you want to call is perfect and will have you wanting more and more. I know these couples have had their story, but reading this just made me want Julie to continue on and on forever. I am so excited Five and Rory will be getting their full grownup story in 2016 and I am begging that Julie continue you on and give other children a story, eh-em Oliver!

This novella had me tearing up thinking about how far some the couples have come, laughing at them getting a dose of their own medicine and smiling from ear to ear at the perfect ending to one of my favorite series.

I could seriously gush endlessly about this novella! Yeah, I'm that much of a goner for Ronin, Rook, Ford, Ash, Spencer and the Bomb Ronnie!

This is a day in the life of the holy Trinity -- Ronin, Ford and Spencer -- and their families on Christmas eve...if you're a die hard Julie fan, you'll understand the significance of Christmas eve when it comes to this bunch.

This was perfection in its imperfection of life.

Each couple is still very much in love as they take stock of life and their families. It's all about the hope that things will just stay the same but life goes on and things change. And as much as you're grateful for what you have, as humans, we tend to take things for granted.

This was heartwarming, funny, sweet and sexy!

And the kids, especially Five, Kate, Rory and Oliver were fantastic! Julie also gives us a huge treat with the promise of a standalone story of Five and Rory in 2016!!! I think Five is all Ford and SO MUCH MORE...seriously can't wait!!

Loved being back with this gang!

So this is a Christmas novella, Ronin, Ford and Spencer have 10 kids between them and they are still super awesome. I can't wait for Five and Rory's book, that will be a cracker :D

FYI Spencer is still my number 1!

Julie delivers everything in this bonus novella for her fans. In HEA we not only get the stories of all the characters we’ve loved for the last few years and their mini-team of kids, but we get the setup of the Five & Rory book that releases in 2016.

A Day in the Life is a theme that Julie has held throughout this series with Slack and Bomb; a day in the life of the team on Christmas Eve. HEA is no different. Each of our favorite couples have grown in the last fifteen years; we get the shifting points of view between Ronin, Spencer, Ford and Five.

The start of the relationships for each of these couples were perfect. They struggled, they had to fight to get to the other side and they did. Now with ten kids between them, they face new hurdles. Are they working too much? Missing too much? With children growing up, is it too late to expand your family? Are you still as loved and cherished as you were when you feel uncomfortable in your own skin? Will the girl you’ve always loved still love you when you go off in the adult world and leave her behind?

I loved every second of this book. The journey they originally took is one on my favorite series of all time and this book had me swooning, dying over the cuteness and in tears over how touching this story was. Julie gave us everything we could ever want for these characters.

Let me just focus on Spencer before I gush over my very age inappropriate feelings for Five. For me this Novella allowed Spencer to stand out yet again. He was absolute perfection in this. His moments with Veronica and Rory were so moving and left such an impact. Every man should love his woman this strongly. Every. Single. One.

Ronin and Ford had their own moments and I loved seeing Ronin realize what was important, seeing Ford more relaxed in his own skin, and then there was Five.

We saw a glimpse of Five in the epi for Guns and we all were hooked. But seeing this young man, ready to take on the world, getting ready to leave Rory behind for Oxford... his moments in this story set up the most perfect beginning to their story. I loved seeing him in this semi-vulnerable state. Being so much like his father, it was nice to get a glimpse into this man-boy at the cusp of his new life but still realizing what it might cost him. His princess. Rory Shrike. Their moments left me complete mush.

We all love how twisted Julie’s books can be. But I have to say this story without any twists, without any secret government assassins or without any crazy crap happening was absolute perfection. Maybe the reviews of HEA will get more readers to pick up the first book in this series and read the seven books that get you to this novella (which you totally should), but this book was solely for the fans of this series and I love that she did this for us.

Saying goodbye to characters we love is not easy. Saying goodbye to these characters is impossible. I can only hope that with so many offspring, that maybe – just maybe – we’ll see more insights to Christmas Eve events with this gang.

For those fans of the Team, enjoy your HEA.

OMG...Did JA Huss write a happy and sweet book with no suspense or plot twist? Yep, she sure did and let me just say that this novella left me smiling and grinning from ear to ear. Happily Ever After: A Day in the Life of the HEA (ROOK+RONIN) was just what I needed this Holiday Season. This sweet novella was jam packed with so much LOVE. It reminded me once again as to why I LOVE Rook, Ronin, Spencer, Veronica, Ford, Ashleigh and their kids. As Julie introduces their kids, I am totally smitten over them especially Kate, Oliver, Starling, Sparrow, Princess and of course, Five. Yes, I personally think that Julie needs to write a book for each kid...

“Every morning when I wake up I think, God, I can’t wait to get back in bed with him tonight. I just can’t wait. It’s the very best part of every single day since we met. Even after fifteen years, I still think that, Ronin.”

#HEA_JA1

Since this is a short novella, I really don't want to say much but what I can tell you is that this book made me miss these fictional characters so much. I know Ford and Spencer have always been fan favorites. But this novella made me realize how much I love and miss Rook and Ronin. These two started my JA Huss obsession so to read that after 15 years later, their love for each other is still so strong and unwavering left me with a big fat smile on my face. So thank you Julie for this Holiday treat!!!!!

We can’t really say much about Happily Ever After – as it would spoil an entire series – other than we bloody loved it. It was all about happiness and love – it felt like a group hug from all the much loved characters we’ve spent such a long journey with, since the beginning in 2013. We read this with a perma-smile on our faces and a melting heart!

“…there will always be an us.”

An amazing epilogue in a Christmas setting – JA Huss we LOVE you for this, thank you, it’s just what we needed and it made us realise once more how much we love this series and how much we’re looking forward to Five’s story!!!!

“Seriously, Five. No one wears suits to Christmas Eve breakfast.”

It’s funny because we’ve had so many conversations about Ronin, Ford and Spencer – falling in love – having our favourite. And still – Jenny is very much Ronin’s girl and Gitte is very much Ford’s girl. But…..Spencer darling we love you too and you and Veronica showed us ‘real’ in this story and our hearts melted!

We want to stay with them all in that great big house for Christmas – it’ll be pure madness but we would love every second of it.

“…I will never get tired of this. Ever.”

Spending quality time with the whole gang 15 years on was a DELIGHT! It was better than chocolate…..it was LOVE!!!!!

“…every moment with you is perfect, even when it’s not.”

Fucking Huss! I cried so many happy tears during this novella! It was like coming home! Happily Ever After was like I had never left Rook & Ronin, Ford and Ashleigh, Spencer and Ronnie behind, reading other stories. And kids growing up too fast hit me in the chest - that is SO true. And I wish this novella was a boxed set of several full novels - I didn't want to leave again.
My Happily Ever After review:
Re-visiting with the Rook and Ronin gang in Happily Ever After was like hanging out with really good friends I hadn't had a chance to see for a while. And I loved how each of the couples shared some intimate Christmas moments with us. We had Ford and Ashleigh, Rook and Ronin, Spencer and Ronnie. And of course their added brood of ten children in various ages. The feeling I got from reading was nostalgic, because I just love this series so much! And seeing them fifteen years later was like the best Christmas present ever!

Each couple get their own chapters, from the male character's point of view, and I wish I could have stayed with them for much longer! Five has some of his own chapters, too, and it was eery to see how like Ford he is. Happily Ever After showed so many things that are true in real life, too! Couples can still be hot after staying together for a long time. The love between them - both inside of the couples and among the friends is so strong it's palpable. I could also relate to them all on some many levels! Kids always grow up too fast - and sometimes, parents think they have missed out on things. Not always feeling sexy after having children is something that many of us struggle with every now and then, too - so a little reminder is never something to leave out!

The happy banter, the characters still being true to themselves, and seeing them all together for Christmas made my heart sing! If you're a Rook and Ronin fan, this novella is a must! It's beautiful. And now I think a re-read of the whole series plus the spin-off is in order! I want more, of course the way we want more time with our friends, spending time eating, drinking and relaxing together. I also loved seeing how the kids have grown, and I think I love Five almost as much as I love Ford. He's one smart kid, that one! Both when it comes to school-stuff and life in general.

Written in first person present tense, reading Happily Ever After offered me some unique glimpses into my favorite characters' lives.

Some of my favorite Happily Ever After quotes:
"Whatever," I say, turning back to the mirror to check my tie again. "You should take our advice,Five," Oliver says. "I'm a girl expert. I have five sisters, I live with them. Rory likes boys who wear t-shirts. Like that Marshall kid in her class."
"Marshall?" I squint at myself in the mirror, my mind whirring to try and place a kid named Marshall. "Who is Marshall?"
"Quarterback for the varsity team," Oliver says. "She went to the library with him last week."

I don't ask what that means. I know what it means. She's gong to do all her teen things without me. I'm going to be thousands of miles away all engrossed in computer engineering, and she's going to be thinking about football games and Marshall. It's research labs and college life for me and dances and note passing for her.

I catch a mischievous grin as she leans over to grab a strawberry, my hand never leaving her soft breast. I twist her nipple a little and that makes her close her eyes and draw in a breath.

The Rook and Ronin along with Ford, and Spencer's series are together one of my favorite all time series, and this book looking ahead at what their families become was such a treat. I loved seeing the kids as well as reconnecting with all of the couples. I am beyond excited for Five and Rory's story!

Right after I finished Guns, I begged Julie for Five’s story. This book isn’t that, but it is so much more. This book felt like coming home. Rook and Ronin, Ford and Ashleigh, Spencer and Veronica. The whole gang was back, plus the addition of a whole lot of kids (Spencer seems to share the super sperm gene with Tucker Creed), especially Five and his Princess.

This is a quick read, but it covers a lot of HEAs. Told in multiple POVs, you get to catch up with everyone as they reflect on their lives and make changes for the future.

There were so many moments I loved:

Kate and her clipboard
Ford and his fans on the slope.
Ronin’s change of priorities
Spencer’s gift to his wife
Sweet Oliver
Ashleigh’s secret
“Mrs. Aston, you are my soulmate. I love the fact that you remember how much I love your candy pussy.”

And of course,

Fucking Five!
“I’m going to make sure, no matter what happens, there will always be an us.”

I adored every moment of this story. The perfect holiday gift from the author. And while I wished for more from Five and his Princess, it looks like I’ll get my wish in 2016. *fist pumps*

I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review

This book gets 5 stars for the simple fact that Five has his own storyline. It gets 5 stars because it's the perfect, mushy story that only Ford, Spencer, and Ronin could star in. These men have aged well and let's just say that they've still got it.

Spencer has a pack of princesses.
Ronin has his two birds.
Ford has Kate and Five.

And Five loves Princess Rory.

It's cute, sweet, mushy, and fucking perfect.

I can't wait until 2016!

This is a re-read of this extended epilogue novella that I needed to revisit to recap with everyone in the Rook & Ronin (+ all spin-offs in this series) as "Five" has been released.

There is not much to add to my original review (which I just realised was done during the Brexit debacle). The highlights for me have been again:

* All three couples of the Rook & Ronin series and spin-offs are featured with their respective kids

* The narrative is split into all the guys's POV, plus Five's, who is here 15 years old.

* All of them appear a bit clueless, and wondering if they've become too stuck in conventionality, taking their families for granted, and contemplating how their kids had got so grown up in front of their very own eyes, that they nearly missed it.

* Five was a delight, with his slight Asperger's traits, like his dad's, and stratospherically high IQ he is about to go to to Uni in England, and is going through first love agony.

* His older sister Kate was also a delight demonstrating a budding entrepreneurial spirit booking ski lessons for the local kids with her dad, Ford Aston, behind his back. This chapter had me laughing, and let's face it, any book that mentions Ferris Bueler cannot fail to be cool.

* Since the last book I read from JA Huss was Mr Match, seeing Oliver Shrike here, age 5, was irresistibly cute.

*And Ronin and Ford's moment of "dude talk", trying to figure out what's going on with their wives also very funny and well observed.

There is no point in reading this if you have not read the whole saga first, as it is only a brief review of all characters involved, but I found this collection last year and it was a perfect match between author and reader. I read about 13-14 books by J. A. Huss in a row and all were 4.5-5 Stars. Wonderful reading experience. Now, Five and Princess Rory as adults, and there will also be a full length book to end the Misters series next month? Bliss!!!!!

================================

Review last year in June

What can I say? I loved this series. I completely adored it. It consistently kept me in a much welcomed reading high, and it was very difficult to put each and every book in the series down.

Even though I've been distracted a bit for the last two days, but I guess I can be forgiven (Europe is breaking down all around me and all that), but this extended epilogue, 15 years after the events covered in the previous novels and novellas was pure perfection. True book heaven. A perfect/imperfect way to forget about the chaos, even if only for one minute or two at a time.

I thought this series was 8 books, but it appears that there is another (tangential) spin off and another 2 stand alone novels connected to the R&R universe. I will also be avidly checking for the Five and Rory book release date. It was planned for Spring 2016, but is obviously delayed (I very much hope not abandoned), with the new Mr. Series.

Hummm. What to do now? Straight into the Bobby Manzi/James Fenici trilogy, or jumping into the new Mr Perfect/Mr Romantic stand alone(s) in the new series?

What is clear is that I am on such a roll for quality with this author, that why change? I have the next 7 books from JA Huss on my kindle, so I can completely continue treating myself to excellence. After so much emotional distress in real life, I think I deserve it. Happy to continue in make-believe life a little longer. Politicians are scum.

A day in the life of the team..

There were so many characters I've read and loved over the years.. Characters that became like my fictional family. Ronin, Ford, Spencer and the whole team would remain one of my favorites. Getting my hand on this book gave me the feeling of spending Christmas with loved ones I haven't seen for a while. I truly missed the team!

The story was set 15 years after the last book but if you think my favorite guys have lost their mojos, think again! Children didn't affect the hotness meter a bit, familiarity and dedication to their lives together even intensified their relationships. As a reader, I felt proud with how far they've come and they proved that true love really does conquer all. Their stories started with everything against them but they made it.

The guys stayed true to their characters. Ronin's charm, Spencer's overprotectiveness and Ford's intelligence were still apparent, but softened by their love for their wives and kids.

Thank you, Julie, for giving us a glimpse into the lives of these beloved characters! Looking forward to a grown up Five. I'm positive he will take us on one hell of a ride!

Weeeeee *throws glitter everywhere * I loved this so hard! This story made me so happy, I can't stop smiling! I love, love, love them all so much! It's great to see the place where everyone is at 15 years later. It makes my cold dead heart start to grow a little with all the love and happy in this book.

I am a huge Spencer lover so I pretty much loved everything with him in it. Holding a baby. Boom. Ovaries explode. Him talking to Five about Rory. I want to do several inappropriate things to his body. The end with him and his Bomb. Gah! Great big girly sigh!

What a great novella for "The Team" fans! I can not wait for Five and Rory's book!!

This was such a wonderful catch up with Rook & Ronin, Ashleigh & Ford and Spencer & Ronnie. They have all produced offspring and between them they have 10 children.

Every year they spend Christmas together in Vail at a home they all bought together. You can imagine the chaos of all of them in the same house. It is happy chaos though :)

We ride the holiday wave as they deal with teenage hormones, young love and independent kids who are so like their parents it's uncanny.

This was a wonderful glimpse back into the world of these three families, if you have enjoyed this series then this will be a must read :-)

A perfect present to open. A holiday treat for us forever fans. I feel all fuzzy inside, I need to go shave my legs too. And the ending made my life.

The Team gathers for Christmas Eve, surprises, heartfelt moments, and total devotion. I had goosebumps and happy tears reading this. I just fucking love these characters, what can I say.

I'm keeping this short. Thank you, Hussinator for bringing to life a group of epic characters, they will always hold a special spot in my heart.

"That Special First Kiss"
Joy is the overriding emotion I felt after reading this lovely Christmas novella. The reader involved in the entire series cannot help but feel absolute uplifting joy as these characters have grown into Mommies, Daddies with very special children. That they have come through the sorrows and troubles in the nighttime of their lives, That they took their special someone gifted to them by Fate or Providence or the Lord above and made some unique and beautiful offspring. "Joy comes in the morning" - Psalm 30
At Christmas the gigantic Vail mansion is filled with the three families celebrating separately and together. This is the year that things will begin to change. Rook gently told Ronin that he needed to be more present in his little girl's lives so as not to miss the years they come into their maturity. He finds the trust he needs to have in Sparrow and Rook to allow Sparrow to do some equestrian modeling. Ford finally reads the subtle clues and messages about Ashleigh's desire to have another baby and despite his worries, he is on board with having another child and ready to get to work.
Spencer's Bombshell is feeling blue and unattractive. She is recovering from her newest of the 6 children she has: All little girls and one next to the last in line a boy. These minor problems work there way to solutions as the stillness and the newness of the eve before the day we celebrate the power of love which was gifted to mankind and all he earth.
Most notably is a teenage love that may turn out to be a forever love between Five, Ford's son and Rory, Spencer's first daughter. Ford is off to study at Oxford in England. While Rory will have the normal American High School experience. They will change and only the future knows how they will change and if their love will survive. Ford needed his first kiss to be with Rory and she needed her first kiss to be with Ford. The extraordinary boy that he is, he created a very special phone app for her because..."Because I’m going to make sure , no matter what happens , there will always be an us." - Five While Rory may not have the genius level left brain intelligence, Rory is surprisingly emotionally intelligent and her genius is in her interpersonal skills.
This novella was like looking at a snapshot of time. Love in action in all relationships both in the family unit and the members of the team interacting with one another. There is so much more promise in the strong foundations of love. Come what may they are prepared to guide their children through to their dreams. They stand by each other through thick and thin. And from this rich soil of love and family already two beautiful blossoms have sprouted both reaching out to each other through a first kiss to one day bring forth even more joy as they negotiate the challenges of their circumstances of separation and different paths of learning.
The book was sweet, very sexy,a little tension but nothing to make the reader overwrought. It was a lovely commentary on how fast life slips by one and we all must try to pay attention and appreciate those we love before it is too late. There is such joy in holding close your little loves and your important loved ones. The reader finds themselves wishing upon the brightest star for good things as Rook is wont to do on Christmas Eve. How perfect! A guiding star!

This novella proves that the most perfect HEAs are beautifully imperfect.

It has been nearly two years since JA Huss ended the amazing story of BFFs Ronin, Ford and Spencer, a.k.a. The Team, in Guns: The Spencer Book. Except for a few brief glimpses here and there in books about side characters from their story, all has been relatively quiet in Fort Collins, CO as the three couples got married, started families and settled down to live their lives. But, JA Huss is granting us a Christmas wish and letting us see a day in the lives of these three awesome families - Christmas Eve, to be exact - 15 years after the events in Guns.

What struck me the most about HAPPILY EVER AFTER is that is was REAL. Sure, Ronin, Ford and Spencer are stupid rich and hanging out in a tricked out mansion in Vail for the holidays. But, as we see pretty quickly, they are still real couples with real problems that we real people can relate to.

Ronin works a lot, and he's starting to realize that, if he doesn't slow down a little bit, he might miss his daughters growing up. Sparrow is 13 now, and going on her first modeling job, which has him totally freaked out. It's not what he wants for her, having lived that life and seen its pitfalls. Starling is now 6 and involved in activities that Ronin didn't even know about. Although his relationship with Rook is solid, he's starting to question what's really important.

Ford's two kids are 16 and 15, and he's enjoying his life now that the time they'll still be living at home is drawing short. Ashleigh, however, has swung in the opposite direction, and with her children getting older, she finds herself wanting another baby more and more.

Spencer's recently welcomed his sixth, and final, child into his family, and he thinks life can't get any more perfect. Until he realizes his oldest daughter, at 14, isn't a little girl anymore, and Ronnie seems very sad all of a sudden. After six babies, his Bombshell is feeling tired and fat and ugly and old, and he's desperate to make her see how much he still loves and desires her, but just the words don't seem to be doing any good.

Happily Ever After is told entirely from the four main male POVs - Ronin, Ford, Spencer and Five. Yes, 15-year-old boy genius Five gets his own chapters, as he tries to woo his princess Rory before he leaves for Oxford. Those chapters were absolutely precious. Five has been in love with Rory since they were babies, and he's scared to death that once he leaves, she will move on to other boys and forget all about him. So, he gives her a Christmas Eve she will never forget.

These men love their women EPICALLY. I mean it - these three couples are the stuff of sigh-inducing legends. It doesn't mean they don't get pissed at each other or that they always say or do the right things. It means that, even when they are idiots, they love each other unconditionally anyway. The way Ronin, Ford and Spencer treat their wives should be a model for every other man on Earth. This entire series should be required reading before couples get married. The depth of love that they have for their wives and for their children brought me to tears. Big, fat, ugly tears.

I love how close all three families still are, even after so much time has passed. There are now 10 kids between them all, ranging in age from 16 years to 6 months, and they're all the best of friends. The Team lives on, even though their activities have changed to ski trips and dance recitals. I know that, should any of the three families need anything, the remaining two would drop everything to be there.

Happily Ever After will make the most sense if you read the entire Rook & Ronin series, plus the spin-offs in order: Tragic, Manic, Panic, Slack, Taut, Guns, and Bomb. If you haven't read this series yet, you really, REALLY need to. It's one of my favorite new adult series ever. And, I promise you, this novella will make it 1000% worth it.

Rook, Ronin, Spencer, Ford and the gang are back 15 years later and life is good, hectic, but good. It was nice catching up with all of these wonderful characters and their offspring. They are spending Christmas at the huge mansion in Vail, CO that they share, it has become a tradition for the crew. Everything is not all roses and sunshine, there is some angst and issues, but everyone is healthy and for the most part happy. The kids are the ones who really steal the show in this book, I loved Five, Oliver, Rory and Kate!

I loved the authenticity of this book, that the grown-ups are experiencing what most married with children people do. Ronin realizing he is missing out on his daughters , Sparrow and Starling, because he works too much. Rook has found her voice and knows how to get what she wants and needs from Ronin. Spencer is doing everything he can to cheer up a very blue Ron the Bomb. Ashleigh longing for another child even though both her kids are teens. And of course, Ford is just being Ford, would we want it any other way?

My favorite part of this book is Spencer, he is just an angel and his love for the Bomb knows no bounds, Bomb is one of my favorite characters, I just love her, and I'm so happy she has Spencer there to take care of her and treat her like the Queen she is. Yes, I speak about these characters like they are real, because to me they are.

This book is hopeful and fun, but also melancholy and poignant. I had a lump in my throat and a little tear in my eye during several scenes, it really touched my heart. Most of all I am thrilled that Five and Rory are getting their own story soon, I think it's my most anticipated book of 2016! As always Julie entertained and delighted me with her one of a kind style and unique voice, she is just amazing.

5 Love Notes Stars

I love everything JA Huss produces. This novella was the perfect icing on top of the Christmas cookies for all of the Rook & Ronin, Ford & Ashleigh and Spencer & Veronica fans like me. Not only do we get more of them and their sexiness, but we also get to catch up with them and all of their kids.

We travel fifteen years into the future and learn that they all get together every year to spend Christmas Eve together. They have a giant house filled with six adults, ten kids and two dogs. That's a lot of people under one roof, but somehow it just works. I love how the kids have grown up together and have their friendships. So when it appears that there is more than just friendship between Five (Ford's son) and Rory "Princess Bombshell" (Spencer's daughter) it really came as no surprise. I can't wait to read their story.

This book made me cry, but I loved every minute of it. I loved catching up with each of the couples. I just loved it all. I really hope that with as many offspring as these couples have that there are many more books to come.

Received ARC for an honest review.

I always wonder what life would be like for my favorite fictional characters after all is said and done and this book gives you that glimpse into the future. It was sweet and funny and everything I would wish for for our favorite couples. I adore reading how these tough men soften with fatherhood and seeing how they deal with typical parenting issues...and some not so typical parenting issues. I loved it and I can't wait for Five and Rory's continuation.

This is an epilogue novella that takes place 15 or so years after the end of Spencer’s book. On KU it comes up the 9th (last) book, but on GR it’s 3.5. I would suggest to follow GR, and read this after Spencer’s (book 5 on KU) because other than one mention of Sasha (book 8) and James (book 6)… it’s all about updates on our 3 couples, and laying the foundation for the 5/Misters spinoff.

Bottom Line- Quick read to finish off this part of the series.
