This workbook provides graduated individual practice for the four skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. It includes many spoken and written exercises that simulate daily life with topics and themes that are relevant and personal to each student. Revised and new exercises reflect the language used in real life and build skills students need to communicate in today's rapidly changing world. Recordings for listening exercises are available on the audio CDs (sold separately).
The textbook is very good. If you go thoroughly through this workbook, how can you help but gain a firm grasp on all the topics covered in Level 1 Part 1. You'll be able to converse with other Mandarin speakers on topics normally addressed in first-time meetings, second-time meetings, and third-time meetings. I have used this book in classes. A rare student would do every exercise for every chapter in this book; that is an enormous bite to take. Only portions were assigned, and that took quite a bit of time as it was. But if you are learning on your own, you will have plenty of time to do each exercise, and that will put you on a higher rung of language competency.
Wonderful book for seeing, visualizing, tracing, and writing Hanzi. I photocopied the pages and wrote on them. That way I could go back and . . . practice more of course! One thing learning any language requires is practice, practice, practice, and that goes double - make that quadruple for semanto-phonetic writing systems such as Hanzi.
Date I finished: didn't. Am engaged in on-going reviews of these texts.
