He tells himself she's an expert at deception, yet what they share between the sheets is raw, tender, and very real. But she's on the run again, and Killian knows if he doesn't catch her, the enemy will.
Alexa has every reason to be wary, but Killian desperately needs her to believe in him. Cut off from their government, betrayed and hunted, they can rely on no one but each other. From the jungles of Colombia to the sparkling metropolis of Hong Kong, as each piece falls into place, Alexa and Killian learn that nothing is as it seems, and stopping terrorists set on a collision course will test their precious trust to the absolute limits.
I'll tell you right off that I don't like reading my own bios, let alone writing them. It's like tooting your own horn. But if you're here, then you want to know something about me. So how about I break some ‘writers have a glamorous life' myths first off.
Myth 1: Writers have always been writers. Not me. I was a licensed cosmotologist for years, and didn't even put pen to paper until I was 30. (with an infant and 3 year old) It took me 3 years to write my first book, and while it taught me a lot, it was dreadful ! Got rejected 6 times flat out. I burned it in the back yard when I sold my 20 th book. I've kept the first pages to remind myself of how far I've come.
Myth 2: writers have a staff to take care of them and their homes while they write. I wish! I don't have a maid, a cook, or anyone who works for me, except maybe Shelley, who maintains this site. Like most women out there, I do all the cooking, cleaning, bills, shopping, etc. Sometimes I can be seen driving the riding lawnmower over our 2 acres. That's not a complaint. I'm a Marine's wife, and my husband was gone a lot, so I had to do it. I'm the only female in a house of men, so I pretty much rule too. And as the daughter, wife, and now the mother of US Marines, believe me, I can give orders when need be.
Myth 3. Writers work when the muse hits them. If I did, I'd never meet a deadline. Writing isn't about the muse coming to you; it's about unleashing bottled creativity and giving it freedom on paper. Every writer I know feels a deep internal need to tell their particular story and hope you're entertained. Writers HAVE to write. Yeah, sure, sometimes the creativity isn't moving like we want, but like everyone who faces some problem, I go to my friends and they come through in a punch. By the way, I work at my job from about 7 am till 4, sometimes later if it's going great and I don't want to stop. Weekends are for playing, projects or gardening. I actually love pulling weeds; it makes my mind drift to good places.
Myth 4: Writers get paid oodles of money. Oodles?? If I did, I'd have a staff and a better-looking office. But I get to go to work in the worlds' sloppiest clothes.
Myth 5: Once a writer sells a book, they can sell anything else. Want to see my rejection file? I could wallpaper a bathroom with it. To keep selling is the really hard part of this job. However, my idea of a great story isn't often blending with the editors. It's frustrating and often, it hurts, since the books writers create have, without a doubt, a piece of them inside. But then, if you can't take it, then this isn't the business for you.
My second book (#1 being the dreadful one I burned) My Timeswept Heart was a finalist in the Romance Writers of America, Golden Heart contest for unpublished works. I didn't win, but it got my work before my Kensington editor. It came out in '93 and I've sold over 30 since. With numerous rejections in between.
Right now, I'm writing books I've wanted to write for three years, Romantic Thrillers. Think Peacemaker or Chain Reaction with a little more romance in them. Lots of action and danger. After writing books in 5 sub genres of romance, (I get bored easily) this new one is the chance for me to use all this military knowledge I've stored up for years. I've fired weapons, rappelled, ridden in an Armored Personnel Carrier, and did some Scuba diving in the East China Sea. It hasn't been boring, and because I write, it never will be.
Now that my Sergeant Major husband is retired, and my sons are grown and towering over their mother, we get to stay in one place.
How average. I love it. When I feel the itch to move every 3 years, I just redecorate.
Well, its time for me to get back to work. Thanks for visiting. Take a look around the site, drop me a note, even read the first chapter of a new novel, if you like. It's out there for you, the reader. I wouldn't be loving my job if you weren't
Safety: This book is completely safe. No other woman/other man drama whatsoever.
“Make love? Oh, you’ve got to be kidding. No one does that anymore.” No one cared that much. “I do.”
So, Alexa and Killian were basically perfect. She was powerful, strong, but needed him just the right amount to make their relationship heady and filled with tension. Killian was alpha, hot, and willing to protect Alexa no matter what. I'm a sucker for things that have stakes, so the setting this romance blossomed in couldn't have been more perfect.
“This hurts,” she said. “I didn’t think it would.” He didn’t stop, knowing she didn’t mean him inside her, but her heart. “Don’t fight it.”
It's very rare that I don't find something that annoys me in a character - I have a lot of pet peeves - but Alexa and Killian really hit the mark and I loved their story.
As the for the plot - it was a definite page turner. I'm ashamed to admit that I have the bad habit of putting most of the standalone books I read down at around 80/85% because once the lovers have made their peace and they're all happy with each other my interest dies. This book, however, kept me turning until the very last page because the plot had been so fantastic. It was complex, had interesting characters, and kept me on the edge of my seat with all the close shaves. It was also simple enough that I could follow easily and I wasn't being detracted from the romance by trying to work out what was going on. All around perfect, really.
Everyone gets their HEA and I couldn't be happier for them. Alexa and Gillian deserved the world and they got it.
Definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes their romance coupled with action, suspense and espionage.
If you haven't tried Amy Fetzer, I definitely recommend giving her a go. Naked Truth is book one of her "Dragon One" series, which is named after the covert group of men (ex military spec ops) that are featured in the stories. I really enjoyed this book. It is fast-paced and action-packed. Killian, our hero, is ex-Marine and the leader of Dragon One, an expert retrieval service. Alexa Gavlin is our heroine, and I'll promise you, she is no fainting miss. She is a CIA NOC (think Mission Impossible), a "non-official cover" undercover agent whose cover has been blown in the field and the CIA home office believing her to be missing, compromised, and quite possibly crossed over to the "dark" side. Killian and his Dragon One retrieval team have been sent to bring her in. There is great chemistry between the hero/heroine, yet a lot of military/type covert action throughout the story. I felt Fetzer did a great job of interweaving the romance elements into the the intriguing storyline. I was reminded of the stylings of Lisa Marie Rice in that Fetzer includes weaponry and tactical details with perhaps a bit fewer and less explicit sex scenes than Rice, although there was plenty to keep the romance-lover in me quite happy. Fetzer does a good job of introducing us to the other men of Dragon One, who are our heroes in subsequent books of the series. "Hit Hard" is up next, featuring Sam, the pilot of the Dragon One team. Me, I can't wait to meet the heroine who'll be paired up with him!
I don't like to include spoilers and you're all quite capable of reading the book blurb, so I'll just leave off here -- GREAT READ!!
Naked Truth is a fairly good romantic suspense read. The main characters have hot chemistry and the romance is steamy. My main complaint is that the military/spy elements of the story were too confusing to keep up with. Fetzer is heavy handed on description and details, and I often found myself skimming through a lot of the military-focused parts to get to the romance. Perhaps a little too Tom Clancy wanna-be for a romance novel.

I didn't think I'd find any action-romance that would get me this excited but I did with Fetzer's Naked Truth. If you are (or *were*, more likely) a Brockmann fan, you'll find Naked Truth outshines anything else out there, except for Gennita Low.
Is Naked Truth perfect? Of course not but I'm reading it all over again inspite of having just finished it because I want to savor it slowly the second time around. It moved so fast, it left me breathless and while I generally prefer more pages given to action than to romance, I felt this book could do a bit more space given to Killian and Alexa's romance, go a bit slower with the sex. While that was hot, it was too much of a wham-bang-thank-you-ma'am event. Before Alexa has recovered from her orgasm, she is escaping from Killian again.
That said, no one else but Gennita Low and Amy Fetzer are able to combine action and romance the way they do. Don't take my earlier comment to mean that Naked Truth is light on the romance. It is not. The romance element is strong, not subtle. The sexual tension is palpable and when Killian and Alexa get it on, it is explosive. It is because of this that I wanted MORE!
Most romantic suspense authors have either crossed over to straight suspense or have so little romance their books can't be classified as RS anymore (like Catherine Coulter's FBI series) or they are too light on the suspense and action and overdo the romance such that it becomes unrealistic - hard not to roll my eyes when the author keeps telling me about the hero's perpetual erection every time the heroine is in sight or they are mooning over their feelings for each other every other page when they will be dead meat if they don't get their butts moving.
Enjoyable enough read. As another reviewer indicated some of it was a bit heavy handed for me. I didn’t believe the chemistry between the two main char tees and would have liked more time spent on the interaction within the Dragon One team. Didn’t take long to read. Probably won’t move on with the series though.
I didn't have much expectation going into this book and only got it because it was recommended alongside one of my favorite authors, Shannon McKenna. Now I've struggled for a long time to find an author that can match Ms McKenna's intensity and figured trying this book, along with the hundreds of others couldn't hurt any. And I'm glad I gave it a shot!

Ms. Fetzer captivated me from the first page with a good mix of heart stopping dialogue and intrigue in to the character. I found I wanted to know who they were and what made them tick. I'd have liked that she didn't bounce so much in between character's point of view particularly through the love scenes and through the action scenes. It made it hard to keep up but also you didn't get a good enough gist of what that character was feeling in the given situations. She did however impress me with her inclusions of many secondary characters and their stories always ended on cliff-hangers that just made you want to run to others and tell what happened.
There was a good balance of romance and suspense, however the suspense tipped the scales and you always got the sense that you were robbed of more alone time between Hero and Heroine. But taking the larger picture into account at the end of the book you resign yourself and feel satisfied that when you have bullets flying pass your head and people chasing you, a quickie here and there is just the right thing to keep the blood pumping, not that that was what it was for the characters but for them it was enough to lay the ground work to come the point of “I’ll kill and die for you” and ofcorse leading to the ultimate HEA.
The suspense was suspenseful, plentiful suspenseful. I liked the military jargon along with all the spy stuff albeit hard to keep up with all the acronyms. This gives the reader a sense of being in the action or the feeling that you're a player in the game of espionage portrayed. It was a sit-on-the-edge-your-seat thrilling ride that made me ask the question in the end "Okay, what's next?". Kind of like that favorite action TV series you love or the movie you can't wait to see the sequel to. And in this case it’s a good thing for an author because that means she can write a full length series and have readers want to follow it.
I've got the rest of the series and would like to see improvement as I go along (as we know authors do improve because let’s face it, the best of them work at it just like the rest). Particularly with the separating of points of view and lengthening the alone time in each character’s head but not too much to drag the story and lose the adrenaline rush. But this was definitely a good start. Well done Ms. Fetzer!
NAKED TRUTH is the first book in the 'Dragon One' Series. A contemporary military adventure set first in South America, our heroine is on the run. Someone wants Alexa Gavlin dead and they have set her up to take the fall. But for what? She needs to find out while trying to stay alive.
Killian Moore is a retrieval expert. A former marine, he was given the shaft and he lost some men while on a undercover job for the US government. Now he is offered a way to make amends. He has trust issues but you understand his reasons. His mission is to locate Alexa and silence her.
This is a story of pursuit. Killian, with the help of his team of experts, finds Alexa but can't keep her in his midst. Each time he locates her and tries to figure out what is going on, she takes off. The chase eventually leads them to China.
Somewhat like watching a James Bond movie but with a strong smart heroine, the pace is fast. Unfortunately for those unfamiliar with military jargon it can be somewhat annoying. The whole story takes place over a few weeks and NAKED TRUTH contains plenty of action. Be prepared for the introduction of many secondary characters. Some of them will have a book of their own.
All along, Killian and Alexa start to develop feelings for each other. They have some in-depth sex but the romantic element is weak. Alexa and Killian's story was OK but I don't know if I care enough to continue with the series. The epilogue felt like it lacked something. If I do read the rest of the books I'll try to find them at our local library.
This was a tad complicated, but good. It is a military romance/suspense. I enjoyed it, but wonder if it was necessary to use first names, last names and sometimes nicknames (interchangeably). Perhaps a chart of who's who would have been helpful...
I’d classify as a suspenseful romance. A bit heavy on military lingo for my taste. Fun characters and interesting plot. Definitely PG 13/ R on the steamy parts.
With NAKED TRUTH, author Amy J. Fetzer delivers a romantic suspense novel with no-holds-barred. There's an undercover agent waking up next to a dead man with no memories of the last month and a CIA operative forced into hunting down a suspected rogue agent who just may have caused him his good name within the company. This book definitely starts off with a bang and keeps on delivering.
U.S. Marine Killian Moore went undercover years ago to infiltrate a drug cartel led by an hellacious and evil Colombian. Unfortunately, someone compromised his mission, and although Killian escaped with his life, the military labeled him a tarnished and unreliable agent. Killian has lost his home within the military, and most of his self-esteem-what he hasn't lost, however, is his desire for revenge against the mole who caused his undercover operation to collapse three years ago.
Alexa Gavlin has been undercover herself, attempting to cozy up to the leader of the same cartel that Killian was once hunting. Her cover is blown now, however, thanks to a dead man in her bed and a chemically altered memory of the last month. Now her fellow agents believe she's gone rogue, and have sent one of their own to hunt her down and eliminate the perceived threat. Alexa knows that someone will be coming, but she never counts on Killian being the man ordered to kill her.
The only problem, of course, is that Killian isn't so sure that Alexa is the rogue the military thinks her to be. Too much is happening, to both of them, that seems to suggest there's a terrorist organization working way too closely with the U.S. government to eliminate both of the agents.
NAKED TRUTH is so many things at once-a romantic suspense book, a military operative, an action-adventure story. Overall, this book takes two characters that you know are made for each other, and throws them into situations where one or both of them might not make it out alive. Ms. Fetzer has done a wonderful job of implementing governmental procedures with a backdrop of foreign soil to make you feel as if you're there with the hero and heroine, fighting for freedom right along with them.
Passion unfolds between Killian and Alexa at exactly the right pace, at precisely the right point in the story. The cartel that both operatives have attempted to bring down at points in their lives is brought to vivid life, and the war on terrorism is plainly painted for the reader to see. Overall, NAKED TRUTH is a definite winner for all lovers of the romantic suspense genre-the struggle of the main characters for love and redemption is painstakingly written, and you'll cherish your front-row seat in this exciting and perilous ride.
This was pretty good! Very fast paced, and I never wanted to put it down!- Though I was up to my ears keeping up with acronyms ! But that is the military for yah!
T he suspence was gripping! Lots of twists and turns! It kept me on the edge of my seat and guessing.
The romance was TRES HOT!! Killian was more than likeable and so was his elite group of bad ass hotties (Riley, Max, Logan and Sam). Alexa was tough without being She-ra!
I really enjoyed this. It was Tom Clancy with romance! My only negative comment would be that sometimes her descriptions were so thorough that they slowed down the pace of the book. I finished it when I was tired so I really had to think about the ending. I'm sure that was just me, though! Definitely a good read!
This story was very well researched and plotted, but it lacked a lot in character development. Some of the dialogue was cliched and made the characters hard to connect with and pretty unbelievable. In addition, the main characters were apart for much of the story eliminating the emotions that could have been a part of the book.
The 1st of the "Dragon One" series...introducing 2 indestructable spy/military operatives...another save the world page-turner...very emtertaining...the operatives have great chemistry and steamy romantic interludes...a good read
Amy writes some of the best romantic/military suspense books on the market. Period. Think Suzanne Brockmann, but with lots more action...lots more action. Heck, your husband would probably like them! Every book gives you a geography lesson, military strategy, and a super hot romance, too.
