Good But Disappointed

I'm a disabled RN. This was a good read, but disappointed that medications weren't really talked about, nor the inability to get effective care from any healthcare provider, including pain clinics, due to the "opioid" crisis. Every provider is running scared of the FDA.
My pain started about 10 years ago when I began having abdominal issues (including gastroparesis and obstructions), and now also wondering if it was around the time that my employer began mandatory MMR vaccines for their employees, which I had a bad reaction to. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia at the time, but I became exponentially worse when I almost died from septic shock from a bowel perforation. Now having been septic 4 times (twice with septic shock) and on TPN, I'm disabled and pretty much homebound. I had a great pain Dr, but the FBI began investigating, and he was forced to quit practicing pending results of investigation. No other pain clinics do medication management in nearly the whole state. It is frustrating and I have many of the same feelings that Dr Kirby has, but worse, because I can't work! This book touches on these feelings.

Insight into my possible future

I do not have the problems yet. But I only have bone loss but found that I can not walk as far . That I wOke up at night like now. Because I tried to turn over. I hope I will not have all her problems. But I know what I might have to look forward to. I have a partner that will be supportive if and when the time comes. I have a source of good medical people near by. I can only hope for the best.
Please read this book it will be very helpful.

Informative and Helpful

As someone who has suffered with chronic pain since I can remember this book is a godsend. It explains things that I intuitively knew and backs them up with another person's experience and scientific research. If you're in pain or have a family member who is, add this book to your collection.

It took me an hour to read the whole book. The book helped me understand what my son is going through. Dr. Kirby does have some good tips for surviving chronic pain, but I wouldn't say that she has come up with a way to thrive with chronic pain. I'm not sure anyone can.

I have been there, felt every minute of it, and am living through it. Dr. Kirby gives good advice that comes from the heart.
