About the author

Following the examples of independent comic creators such as Dave Sim and Jeff Smith, he decided to publish Strangers in Paradise himself through his own Houston-based "Abstract Studios" imprint, and has frequently mentioned a desire to do a syndicated cartoon strip in the authors notes at the back of the Strangers in Paradise collection books. He has also mentioned his greatest career influence is Peanuts' Charles Schulz.[1] Some of Moore's strip work can additionally be found in his Paradise, Too! publications.

His work has won him recognition in the comics industry, including receiving the Eisner Award for Best Serialized Story in 1996 for Strangers in Paradise #1-8, which was collected in the trade paperback "I Dream of You".

It was announced on June 15th, 2007 that Moore would be taking over for Sean McKeever as writer of Marvel Comics's Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane series starting with a new issue #1. On July 27th, Marvel announced that Moore would also take over for Joss Whedon as writer of Marvel's Runaways.[2]

On November 19th, 2007 Terry Moore announced in his blog that his new self-published series would be named Echo and its first issue would appear on March 5th, 2008.[3]

I have not read any Strangers in Paradise prior to this issue, but I've been following Terry Moore since Echo. I also work in comics so I gain some insight from coworkers who were around for this series' prequel. Going in with that knowledge, I quite enjoyed SiP XXV. The opening scene is well-crafted. The tie-in to Echo is cool and I would love to see how many of his other stories cross-over or how. Terry's a remarkable creator, telling his story in subtle or clever ways. Less is sometimes more in telling tales and Moore gets that. In a few sparce panels or exchanges of dialogue and we gain the tone, the unspoken intention of the character, and sometimes even more questions that we can trust will be revealed when the time and place is right. To get these out monthly, too, when many creators for the bigger companies fall behind when doing less, is also impressive. As soon as I can get my hands on the previous runs of SiP, I'll be happily looking back on Moore as he honed his craft. Until then, prior plot knowledge is not required to jump in here.

Unrelated: I understand Mr. Moore has his own publishing infrastructure, studio and whatnot, but fair or not, I'm still surprised he didn't set this up at Image.

Also unrelated. The previous SiP is finally showing up in Kindle and I'm thrilled. However I got through volume three of the Pocket Editions, taken out of the public library, and neither abebooks, comixology, or Amazon tells you what those volumes collects. Given that information, I'd buy, but lacking that I'll do some research first, I guess.

I have never read any other SiP, I got this at free comics day. I found the his one pretty interesting. In one issue, it drew me in and made me want to know more about the world of this book. The art is really well done, blending minimalistic style with depth.
