Final entry in the Eagle Mountain Murder Mystery mini-series manages to wrap up most of the dangling story threads, and at least maintains Cindi Myers' standard of delivering a relatively fast-paced and suspenseful plot. But this was definitely a case of 2.5 stars being rounded up to 3.

Paige Riddall is our heroine, who gets shot at after seeing some guys carrying crates around the Eagle Mountain abandoned resort and dumping them into a secret hidey-hole. The hero racing to her rescue is DEA agent Rob Allerton, who is in town to find out who really killed Henry Hake. Of course, it's all related to the secret World War II labs that were the subject of the previous book. Obviously, someone is up to those old biological weapon development tricks and wants to keep it secret.

Which kind of makes me wonder why, if the mastermind wants to fly under the radar and keep his biological warfare a secret, is he doing everything in his power to draw as much attention to his activities as possible? Murdering people left and right, burning down houses, shooting at people, and stringing up a dead body for convenient discovery a week after their death are not the sorts of things I would think you would be doing if you DON'T want to be discovered!

Basically, the whole mini-series is based on an evil villain seemingly doing everything he possibly can to get caught.

There was no problems with the book's pacing in terms of suspense, but the romance is pretty blah. Paige has some stubborn characteristics that make her reasonably believable as a person, but Rob is just flat as a pancake. Not a bad guy by any stretch of the information, but he's not particularly memorable. And it sometimes felt as if he spent more time with Travis, the sheriff, and other law personnel than he did with Paige.

Repetitiveness was another issue. Something would happen, and we'd get told about it again and again without it being necessary. Forget how Henry Hake died? You'll be reminded about five more times! And when Paige's B&B burnt down, Rob must have repeated the story to about four different people who rocked up, wanting to know what was going on.

We never find out what it is that Maya's sister and brother in law saw that got them murdered in book 2 (although we can assume it was related to the World War II underground lab, why should we have to? Why can't I be told?) So that justifies the 2 star rating I gave to that book. Thankfully, most of the outstanding questions I had were quickly answered in the bad guy monologue.

A disappointing mini-series compared to Cindi Myers' last one, but it's not boring and at least manages to tie events up swiftly and mostly neatly, even if it all feels a bit anti-climactic.

Fantastic conclusion to the series. Besides being the owner of the local B & B, Paige is also an avid environmental activist. Her group was responsible for halting the development of the Eagle Mountain Resort and forcing them to allow access to a historical hiking trail. After finding out that the trail has been blocked again, Paige heads up, bolt cutters and hacksaw in hand. But just as she gets started, she spots two men carrying a mysterious crate. Curious, she follows them, then has to run for her life when they shoot at her. The last person she expects to run into (literally) is DEA agent Rob Allerton. Rob and Paige have a contentious history. Several years earlier he had been the one to arrest her younger brother on drug and robbery charges. Sparks flew during their disagreements over suitable punishment, and Paige still holds a grudge.

Though his official investigation into the lab found at the resort in Avalanche of Trouble is over, Rob has returned to Eagle Mountain on a personal quest to find out more about Henry Hake's death. There are more questions than answers when the autopsy report comes in. He's in the right place at the right time to lend a hand to the sheriff in checking out the resort property, before heading to his lodgings - Paige's B & B.

I loved the development of the relationship between Paige and Rob. The sparks between them are strong. Rob admits to himself that he's very attracted to Paige. Her loyalty to her brother and her passion for her causes are very appealing to him, as is her independence. Paige has a harder time accepting that she's attracted to Rob. I loved how her brother saw what was between them so clearly, and that he found it amusing. When Paige is shot at a second time, Rob makes it his mission to keep her safe. It was fun to see the interactions between them, as Paige tries to assert her independence and Rob won't budge. I liked seeing Paige and Rob's attitudes toward each other change now that they have some distance from Parker's arrest. Working together on the mystery of what is going on at the resort property brought them closer together. Surviving a deadly confrontation made them realize that they belonged together. I liked their big moment at the end, which was fun and sweet and romantic.

The suspense of the story was outstanding. The tension has built from the very first book, with the murder of the lawyer and the disappearance of the developer. Each subsequent book has added to the questions of what is going on at the abandoned resort. The sale of the property and the new owners' plans look like a good thing on the surface, but there is definitely a feeling that there is something else going on. I also had some concerns about what Parker and the professor were up to. I was on the edge of my seat during the final confrontation as several unexpected twists had me wondering who was really the mastermind. I especially enjoyed Paige's part in bringing down the bad guy.

An intriguing and explosive investigation to the mysterious Eagle Mountain Resort, to all the shenanigans and criminal activity that has been associated with the place ever since the start of the series. The build-up for the conclusion of many of the crimes has been intense, and the odd death of Henry Hake, the former owner of the half-built resort, tipped off that more than meets the eye has been happening at the small mountain town resort.
The energy between Paige Riddell and Rob Allerton is sizzling. The attraction between them is strong, nearly visible force, even though Paige is doing all in her power to deny it.
Paige is a strong, smart, passionate woman who loves her brother, her hometown, and the environment surrounding it. She is known as a straight-talking activist, who avoids relationships after being burn in a marriage.
Rob loves her passion, her ability to stand up for herself, and the fierceness she looks after her brother.
Parker, Paige's brother, turns out to be as protective of his sister, as well. I loved how Parker formed a relationship with Rob, how he didn't hold his own past mistakes against Rob, who arrested him.
All the main characters are charismatic and likable, the supporting cast and crew having important roles in the development of the tale, as the plot thickens and the mystery surrounding the Eagle Mountain Resort gets new twists.
I enjoyed the story, and the romance developing between Rob and Paige had the spark and fire that I have come to expect in the relationships in this series. There wasn't that much about the background of Rob revealed, just that he was dedicated to his career, loved his extended family, and was a charming and protective man.
The mystery and suspense were twisted and deadly, yet all the strings are brought together at the end, every crime and the culprits coming to the light all the way from the beginning of the series.
A fiery and violent crime spree in a small mountain town comes to a tense conclusion. An entertaining series that held me captive from the very start with heightened tension, sharp twists in the plot, and ardent romance stories that warmed the hearts of the readers.

It was okay. Another quick read.

Various thoughts -
For the conclusion of the 4 book mini-series, it was sort of a let down.🤷🏻‍♀️Yes we learned some important things and I was not expecting the big-bad to be who was revealed.

What we did not get total closure on and for what I still have questions for:

Why not have an epilogue, set a year after and hinting at these things? The thing is there are other sub-series within this town (the next being "Eagle Mountain Murder Mystery: Winter Storm Wedding" - is that Lacy's wedding or someone else?), but I have no idea if the characters and plot lines from these 4 books will pop up and continue in subsequent ones. So, it feels like a lot of unanswered questions and such. I plan to read the next sub-series, so if I am wrong, I will come back and make note of it! I really hope we get info and updates on things in the other sub-series.

“Danger on Dakota Ridge” is book four of the Eagle Mountain Murder Mystery series by Cindi Myers.

Paige Riddell owns the Bears Den Bed and Breakfast, is an environmentalist, and has been instrumental in closing the Eagle Mountain Resort. Now, a new company wants to come in and take over the land. Their plan sounds good, but may be too good.
Rob Allerton, DEA agent, is back in Eagle Mountain in an unofficial capacity. He’s there on behalf of his aunt to find the truth behind a murder.

Rob and Paige do have a past. He’s the one who arrested Paige’s brother, sending him to prison. But even with that between them, an attraction simmers. Working together to find out who is after Paige and why, that attraction flares to life.

“Danger on Dakota Ridge” has government intrigue and an explosive ending, bringing the Eagle Mountain Murder Mystery to a satisfying conclusion.
Ms. Myers continues to write romantic suspense that keeps you guessing.

I enjoyed this Murder Mystery. I bought this at a local library sale and I voluntarily chose to review this story. I've given it a 4.5* rating. It is not for the under 18 readers because of sexual content. This is book 4 of this series and along with characters I met in earlier stories, some of the same concerns and problems kept coming up. This ended up answering many questions, along with new questions and more mayhem, murder, and destruction. This was a page turner for sure, with plenty of action. I'm on to my next book.

I enjoyed this whole series. As a word of warning, this series is heavy on the mystery and light on the romance. If you are looking for something that has more of a focus on romance, you should look somewhere else.

I am impressed with Myers's ability to write an overarching mystery across 4 books that was intriguing and hard to guess, without becoming overcomplicated. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a good mystery.
