I never did finish this book. Intellectually I believe a commitment to daily meditation would be personally enriching - yet I struggle to sustain a commitment to the practice. I suspect if I could get past first base, I might find the rewards.
I disliked the title but the subtitle drew me in: a one month mindfulness guide. I like how she gives you a four week plan with guided meditations and mindfulness practices. I listened to the audio version while my husband read the book. The recipes are not suited to audio, but the rest of the book is great to listen to. I particularly enjoyed the last week where she explains that your brain is wired towards negativity and you are invited this week to notice every time something good happens. It puts you in such a positive mood.
Wonderful book for creating greater happiness and fulfilment in life through mindfulness meditation. Easy to follow daily exercises supported by stories and research that shows how beneficial mindfulness can be!
The Happiness Plan by Dr. Elise Bialylew gives a 4 week plan of meditation and gratefulness. I chose to read the whole book through first before actually working with "the plan". I have also listened to several of Dr. Bialylew's podcasts and find her to be very "down to earth" and easy to understand.
Enjoyable and offered some helpful techniques. Also some were irrelevant to me. I was reading that I was constantly craving social media, I would neglect my kids and what to do about it. I know I'm not addicted to social media and it doesn't distract me from real life. I don't even check facebook daily. Nor do I have kids.
A month of exercises to help with mindful meditation. This covers everything with lots of variety. I have never been able to come close to doing any sort of meditation but I surprised myself and Stuck at this and have learnt a lot. I conquered breathing techniques to reduce tension in my body. I do feel calmer after the month.
